@Ooccoo_Jr It is not inherently bad in itself. However, people are concerned that this will replace full game carts if successful and that is the problem. A lot of Nintendo fans are also physical collectors (me included) and having the full game on cart, so I can pop it in 40 years from now like I can pop in my copy of 7th Saga in my Snes and play it at anytime I want to without worrying that the server might not exist anymore. Personally, I think game key cards are a good evolution of digital but I don't want them replacing full carts.
@KBuckley27 The days of "third party games don't sell on Nintendo consoles" is over. If you release a game that's a decent port, you'll sell well on a Nintendo console. I would've bought Yakuza and Street fighter if they were full game-on-cart. Instead I bought CyberPunk, TTOK, BOTW and Rune Factory. All full game carts.
I think people forget that the original switch launched with 3gb of usable RAM and Nintendo subsequently released another 256mb with an update so they can do the same here if required. It just means that certain games may not have the chat functionality and if gamers are happy with that, then perhaps Nintendo will oblige.
Sometimes, it would help if Nintendo just came out and clarified these rumours. But if they are only offering limited card options, then there'll be a backlash from gamers. And if they are offering more carts and publishers are just choosing to be cheap, then there'll be backlash against publishers from gamers and Nintendo might lose support from publishers. I guess when game like mario kart world is released, someone out there will be able to say with certainty what size cart it is.
I think this is an evolution of digital games in that it's tied to a physical cart and the best part is that you can trade it in. I understand why people want the full game on a cart and the fear that this might lead to an industry-wide approach. However, it is yet to be seen if original switch 2 titles will follow this format.
Have there been any reports of people's build breaking the game on Switch or causing massive slowdown? If that wasn't a thing, I doubt it'll start to show up of S2.
@sanderev No it's not. But if it's been engineered with this consideration in mind, then it may make it possible with some input from the Devs. Well, we'll see what happens come April but I ain't holding my breath
@sanderev Yeah and that's why I said "with minor input from the dev". If the process for increasing performance is not a tedious one, it could incentivise Devs to do it with a benefit of getting more sales. But yes, we will have to wait and see. April can't come soon enough!
My biggest "what if" with switch 2 is if it'll provide a considerable performance boosts for og switch games with minor input for Devs. I'm talking games that would naturally perform better with more RAM, CPU/GPU power. Because if it does, it could really give of switch games a second extended life.
It reminded me of the "2D" scene from the mario movie when Mario and Luigi were trying to get to the job and they had to go through a construction site. It would be amazing to actually get to control Mario when they level out visual fidelity
Everyone saying that The Pokémon Company is doing this because of Palworld's success probably haven't been paying attention to how Nintendo/TPC operate. They are very protective of the IP and will take anything down that infringes on that in the slightest, whether it's a full game or fan-made stuff. Nintendon't play that.
Just played it. It's a really good game but those saying it's as good or better than Dread are smoking something. It's got some really nice things going for it (picture map markers should be adopted by everyone) but it's just not got "thing" that Dread does.
This chart will change in about 2 weeks time and Nintendo will be back on top. Yakuza does relatively well in Japan and that's the reason for the hardware spike. However, like most non-nintendo games, it never lasts more than a few weeks once the 'fans' have purchased. They think sprint, Nintendo think marathon.
@johnedwin Yep. But 5 months from now, I don't think Spidey will be in the top 10 but it's usually expected that Mario will still be fighting for a position. Nintendo games sell well over a ridiculously long period of time but other first party games from Sony/Microsoft lose steam after a few weeks/months.
@GalaxicGlobe hahaha. No mate it's not me. I don't buy the games. I just find them and post a screenshot in a chatgroup and we try to make sense of it 😂
@GalaxicGlobe hahaha all those games are made by the same dev. My friends n I look for their titles all week just to laugh at them. Another one is "Mudness offroad car simulator - 4x4 Racing Games Driving, parking, battle, tuning 2022 SIM kart". It looks like they're just trying to hit key words 😂
@AstroTheGamosian I thought this as well but the Switch wouldn't be the box, the Switch would be the console that you can play away from the box, which would basically act like those laptop graphics boxes that you can plug into and get a considerable boost. I think it would be way too expensive that way as you're talking about 2 different hardware with their own chips, graphics cards.
@CammyUnofficial if you've got an alternative console, grab it on there. No point paying for something that'll become unavailable once those servers shutdown. Also, a better experience of PS/Xbox. Would love a native switch version and I can bet my left leg that we'll see all these games on Switch 2 within the first 2 years of the systems release; complete with Nintendo themed costumes and other fan-service to draw people in
They finally decided to give switch owners a respectable game after seeing that switch owners, despite the abominable "legacy editions" make up a good size of their customer base.
@Sisilly_G Yeah, I know all that. My point is that this game, regardless of platform, always requires local install. And with the updates, that file size just keeps growing and growing.
Like I said, I tend to purchase Asian versions as they usually have all games on single cart. I've purchased Ninja Garden Collection, 2 of the Atelier series collection, Resident Evil Collection, and some other games I can't remember. All had the entire collection on cart. No extra download required save for updates. The exception here could be the Metal Gear Collection as I've looked and all versions are requiring a 30gb install so I guess Konami are cheapskates everywhere 😁
@Sisilly_G I hear you on this and I'm much the same. I usually purchase "Asian" versions of switch games as they tend to have the whole game or collection on cart. However, consider this - there is no version of this game on any console that will not require a local installation. FIFA on my series X is about 50gb install even though it's running from a disc. Just something to consider. If this plays decent with the new engine, then it's a no-brainer for me. Also, online competition on switch is easier 😜
@IceClimbersMain There's very little chance of that happening. Many switch owners bought a switch for its portability so they'd be left behind. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a proper home console as it may mean a significantly more powerful system but the Steam Deck has shown that you can have a recently powered handheld system.
I'll bet my house that the physical release in Asia will have all 3 on the cart. If I do decide to get this if the port is decent, it'll have to be from PlayAsia
@Tandoori Agreed. Everything is subjective. But there are some accepted "standards" that form the baseline of our opinions. In the same vein, I could say that I don't like a videogame where I die so any game that has a "death" mechanic is an automatic 5 in my opinion. Nobody likes to die but we've all accepted that it is a part of the risk and reward flow of games. I'm terrible at bullet-hell shooters but I doubt you'll find anyone with a bigger library of bullet-hell games, becos even though I'm not good at playing them, I understand and appreciate the gaming philosophy behind it. So whilst you may not like something or it's not your cup-of-tea doesn't make it bad even subjectively.
It could surpass the DS and PS2. We're talking 25million sales in the next 2 years. That's 12.5million a year. A price cut within a year will push it through and it'll surpass the DS and PS2 I think
@day I'd love to see a Ghibli take on a Nintendo IP but the problem is that it won't do well outside of Japan. People in Europe and America don't seem to hold hand drawn animation in the same esteem as they used to when Disney used to do it.
@Savage_Joe it's not always about power and most times, it's just laziness. How can we get Doom, Wolfenstein and The Witcher on switch but square can't get Kingdom Hearts natively? That's just laziness. There are some really talented port specialists out there for switch who literally work miracles. Will there be sacrifices? Yes, but it'll still look good and play well if handled by the right people
@Timptation it's a problem their going to have to overcome somehow. I can't imagine a situation where the switch can run a game at good specs and the Dev says they had to lower the specs because they couldn't fit the game on a single cart. They don't seem to feel that way when publishing games in Asia for whatever reason.
@Timptation There is no limitation on game cards. Publishers, especially in the west, choose to limit the game cards they use. If you purchase an Asian version of a switch game, you'll find that it'll contain all content on one cart as opposed to some of the content and you needing to download the other part. Cartridge makes sense on a system that is portable and movable. I think the prices of carts will drop to the point where it's not much of a problem for Devs/publishers
Played the demo last night and it looks stunning. When the actual gameplay started I didn't realise it for a few seconds cos I thought I was watching a cut-scene. Kids will love it and Kirby fans too. Probably a day one if I can find a decent deal
@Lord do you own a Dreamcast? Because I do and while I love the nostalgia of playing Dreamcast games, only Soul Blade comes close to still looking decent.

Don't think these will be released outside of Japan. The series goes back to the Wii and maybe WiiU but never made it out of Japan so I'm not expecting this to but I'd love to be proven wrong.
Nintendo was right to consolidate their portable and home console divisions. I still wish they had 2 different consoles on the market though and it's strange to imagine that from here on out, there'll just be one single Nintendo handheld/home console. It's the sign of the times I guess. Regarding memory space, I've only had my series X since November and bought another mem card a few months ago. Even when you buy physical, remember that PS4/ps5/Xbox always install a huge amount from the disc to the hard drive.
