Re: Nintendo Switch Will Be a Single-Screen Experience

@JaxonH

"Said they should make a normal console without "silly gimmicks", yes I believe that's the term people used. Well here you go. No "silly gimmicks" just broad functionality."

Huh?

I'd say a console that is a tablet with removable controllers which can be used at home in a docking station is the ultimate 'gimmick'.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, but that is what sets it apart from everything else, i.e. a gimmick.

A touch screen at one point in time was considered gimmicky, but now it's just an expected feature that has been widely adopted by all companies.

@Turniplord

Or maybe you could buy three consoles and link them all together allowing you to use second screen features, while increasing the processing power of the Switch, giving it better graphics than a high-end PC.
That seems unlikely to happen, but in theory it works...

I wonder how many people here ripping on the analysts for 'not knowing anything' were the same ones predicting the Wii-U to be a massive success a few years back??

We will have to see how this thing pans out in 2017-2018, but to me, it seems like a very risky idea. It's going to be a 'love it or hate it' thing in my opinion. Either a big hit or a massive flop.

Re: Reaction: Our Early Thoughts on the Nintendo Switch

DonaldTrump

The only thing about it that intrigues me is that now Nintendo can put all their effort towards making games for just one console, which should help end droughts.

As for the portable component? Don't care. The flimsy and small detatchable controls look like a nightmare.

I will definitely take a wait and see approach with this thing. Maybe buy one a year or so after release, then again, I may grab one day one. Who knows.

Re: Guide: Everything We Now Know About the Nintendo Switch

@Rhydas

how exactly is this 'innovative'??

it's just (clunkily, imo) combined a handheld console with a home console. The Vita/Shield/Wii-U have all done this before, to varying degrees of success.

I can't imagine the parents who buy it will be thrilled with the idea that their children will be taking a $400 video game console with small removable components outside of the house either. It's a recipe for disaster for owners, but fantastic for Nintendo as they will be able to sell tens of thousands of replacement parts.

By-law officers do go to the park, but it's very hard to fine/ticket people when they drop a cigarette butt or a bottle on the ground. especially if it is happening overnight. Is the city responsible for paying thousands of dollars a week of taxpayer money to police a bunch of slobs?

If Nicantic would just hire some staff to deal with these complaints in a timely matter and remove these spots from the game asap, there would be no issues.

The dumb game created this problem so why should it be the municipalities responsibility to eat the costs? It doesn't make sense.

Ya you are right. Game sales don't affect gamers.

It's not like the low sales of franchises like Metroid, F-Zero, Star Fox, etc have anything to do with the fact that releases in those series' are either few and far between or non-existent.

Or the fact that Nintendo home consoles sell in such small numbers that third party companies don't bother releasing software on them.

Yes. You are right. There are no valid reasons at all why a fan of Nintendo would be concerned with how many games/systems they sell....

Spending taxpayer money to keep hoardes of geeks out of protected areas/memorial sites < having the game makers simply remove the location from the game

There's a war memorial site in my city that is constantly covered with cigarette butts and garbage now, just because a bunch of geeks like to camp out there overnight. People with the city requested it to be removed months ago and it has yet to happen.

tldr: how about instead of expecting cities to pay extra money to police these areas, just remove the damn spot from the game in a timely manner

Re: Livestreamed Mugging Highlights The Dangers Of Playing Pokémon GO Late At Night

@HappyMaskedGuy

If someone gets in a minor car accident and either dies or suffers severe injuries as a result of not wearing a seatbelt, they are roundly criticized for not taking the proper precautions.

Should the guy have been robbed? Absolutely not. Nor should he be absolved of all personal responsibility for putting himself in the risky situation which allowed this to happen to him.

Walking around in Central Park alone after midnight while carrying around hundreds (thousands?) of dollars of electronics is not a smart/safe thing to do no matter how you try to frame it. The victim willingly engaged in this risky behavior, and unfortunately he did it around the wrong person.

@Tsusasi

"He did nothing wrong at all. The is no law against walking wherever you want when you want."

No. But there's also something called 'common sense' which most people have, which prevents them from putting themselves into potentially dangerous situations and making themselves a target.

By the way, there's also no law against buying a bottle of hot sauce and then pouring it into your eyes. So if someone does that and goes blind, is it okay to question their judgement? Or is that victim blaming?
