As many of you are no doubt aware, Michel Ancel has been getting fans riled up for the past couple weeks by posting a few images that are supposedly related to Beyond Good & Evil 2. The game is known to exist in some form, though it hasn't technically been officially announced yet, and there've even been rumours that the game could be an NX exclusive. Whatever the heck is going on with this project, Ancel keeps stoking the flames; he just posted another image today.
The new image depicts an anthropomorphic rhinoceros which looks quite similar to the shark that was shown last week. Here's what was posted:
Endangered species - now saved - Game in pre-production - Stay tuned !
Of particular interest is the phrase "game in pre-production". It may be rather cryptic, but it certainly seems to suggest that significant progress is being made on the anticipated sequel. Only time will tell.
What do you think? Is all of this pointing towards an impending announcement? What did you think of the first game? Drop us a comment in the section below.

Don't know if it has anything to do with BGE2, but how much Ubisoft has been hyping NX leads me to believe they know the reveal is soon, that they're a significant part of the launch lineup, and that they're trying to hype their own titles, with Nintendo's blessing.
Why all this secrecy if not for NX?? At least that's what I'm hoping! Also if those images even look half as good as what the NX graphics will be you can sign me up now!
Waiting for a box of K-bups to show up next, with a little "NX" on the side of it.
Pre-production as in going gold manufacturing launch title or pre-game development launching with NX 2?
And he really looks like either Be-bop or Rocksteady. Thanks to he who's name is too long to type.
@PanurgeJr I hope to god you're right.
He DOES look like Rocksteady!
@Spoony_Tech The games been in secret development since 2008, no reason for it to come out of hiding now.

We all thought "nearly completed" Pikmin 4 would be on NX as well, but now it's on 3DS. Well maybe, Nintendo can't even be straight with us on that.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2015/09/pikmin_4_is_very_close_to_completion_though_its_platform_is_unclear
If anybody hears anything about Pikmin on NX please do let me know, it was my reason for buying one.
Might be for BGE2, but I would be surprised if it comes to NX at all, Nintendo gamers barely get anything anymore
@rjejr once again we do not know that pikmin 3ds is pikmin 4
It's has a 0% chance of being on the NX. Ubisoft has made it very clear that they have no intention on supporting the system and even if they do, they're not going to make exclusives. We saw how bad third party exclusives like Zombi, Bayonetta 2, and The Wonderful 101 flopped. No one is going to make that same mistake again.
Oh boy it looks like we are in for a long wait for this game, as if it hasn't been long enough already. I guess the rumors of the game being an NX launch title were completely unfounded, though they always did seem to be sort of a stretch but I was definitely under the impression that the game was farther along than pre production, but I guess the fact that they have only released concept art should have tipped me off.
"game in pre-production" does not mean that "significant progress" is being made on the game. Actually, it implies the exact opposite and that the game is in the earliest stages of its development.
@LeRaposa stop talking. You missed all the praise and support Ubisoft had done in the past few weeks. Also bayonetta 2 sold well.platinum games and Nintendo are happy with the games sales.
You sound like one of the fanboys who get mad at a game not coming to your preferred system.
I hope your statement was just sarcasm.
@rjejr I've been keeping my ear to the ground for Pikmin 4 news. Even though I'm personally looking forward to the 3DS Pikmin game, I'm hopeful that it's not the Pikmin 4 Miyamoto was referring to and that NX will see a full-fledged game in the series.
"Michael Ancel Shares Another Image Related to Beyond Good & Evil 2"
Clickbait! We think its BG&E2, we hope its BG&E2. But it could be something entirely different (Asscreed, Animal edition). We'll wait and see!
"Why all this secrecy if not for NX?? At least that's what I'm hoping!"
That's what I am thinking too! They aren't allowed to say that its coming to NX, since NX isn't out of the gates yet!
Anybody else hearing rumors about Nintendo revealing the NX on the 21st?
Am i the only one sees the cryptic MESSAGE an endangered speicies: NOW SAVED"???? the rumour is that nintendo funded the game and got it up and running again is it not? With ancel putting that in there its quite obviously an nx exclusive, bayonetta2 style again. And with the nx reveal around the bend and ubisoft hyping it up and now ancel posting images cmon guys its coming to nx exclusive
I've never played or even seen Beyond Good & Evil ... was it good? Should we be excited? Was the first one ever even on Nintendo?
@rjejr My name is not that long. For those who aren't Irish, getting the spelling right is the hardest thing.
@Moon It's one of my all time favourites. It might be a bit clunky by today's standards, but the story was great and the world felt interesting. The game ended on a cliffhanger, so it would be nice to get to see where that leads to.
And also, Michel Ancel has made som really good games in the past.
It was released for the Gamecube way back, along with all the other consoles of that gen.
@LeRaposa
Um, ya. You don't really know what you're talking about, respectfully.
Uh-oh, so not an NX launch title then.
Maybe well get lucky and see an official announcement at the NX reveal or shortly after.
Here's a nice article about the pre-production stage:
http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/PaulSztajer/20130324/189171/The_15_Steps_of_Particulars_Preproduction.php
If Ancel means that they're still in that stage, then we should be prepared to wait for a bit. If they have a good plan they could make the game in a couple of years though.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I consider any name with a _ in it to be too long. I'm only a quarter Irish, Slig is all you get from me, but that sounds kind of rude.
MAMMAGO! Babukar, is that you?
@rjejr That's my nickname. It's not rude.
@-DEMISE- I've been searching, but nothing. Nintendo really has the whole "we're not talking about it" act down pat, don't they? Well don't talk about it if you aren't going to talk about it then. It's been an entire year since Shiggy made that comment, if it isn't the 3DS game just say so. And if it is, just say so. Just say something. They told us Zelda is on NX, why couldn't they tell us Pikmin 4 is on NX?
@faint Did you stop reading before you got to "Well maybe"?
If you know something I don't, please by all means share.
@Grawlog Thanks.
@rjejr fanning some flames of your own there, I see...
People don't like that silly little 3DS Pikmin game being confused with the full blown, triple A experience that will be "Pikmin 4 NX Super Special Delayed so now much better Deluxe Editor's Cut all DLC included from day one Extended Edition". And it will be released within the launch window...
And this might answer your question as to which version the 3DS game is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7nyjWoLUqI
As far as I'm concerned, Pikmin 2.5D definitely can't be Pikmin 4. You don't take this long to make such a simple game. And remember: Miyamoto said that Pikmin 4 assets were all but ready and waiting, which was well before there were ever any plans to do a 3DS version, which is also done by an entirely different development team...
@liljmoore Yes I heard about that date too. Something to do with the 21st also being the first time a Nintendo Direct was aired, so it could be some kind of special date.
@driftydrift Good call and interesting theory. +1
@Moon Yes and yes. It was a good game and it was on a Nintendo console, namely the GameCube. (and also on PS2 and Xbox) Here's a review:
Here some more in depth info:
And here's the intro and first 10 minutes of gameplay:
If you can still find it somewhere, it's definitely worth picking up if you like this type of game. It really didn't get all the credit that it actually deserved back then, so to me it's quite surprising that they are doing this sequel.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Why would people have to spell your name if they can just click that reply button?
@Moshugan They've been busy off and on with this game for so long now, they might very well be anywhere between steps 12 and 15, so that would mean that the time to release could be well within the next year, Q4 2017 at the latest.
I'm getting hype, but what will us who never played the original do other than emulate? :/
@Lady_rosalina Ubisoft has made it very clear that they are not supporting the system. Pretending otherwise is wrong and is just going to set people up for disappointment. If Ubisoft were supporting the system then they would have announced games for it at E3. Instead they only announced Just Dance. It's time to face reality. Third parties aren't coming back.
@MeloMan Anyone who has not played the original can get the HD rerelease. PS3, and 360 have it for $9.99. It has gone on sale for cheaper a few times recently as well.
EDIT: Steam and GOG both have the original PC game as well. There is barely any difference between the original PC and HD console versions, though.
@LeRaposa They've made it clear they're not supporting the system by hyping it more than any other 3rd party publisher? Okay...
@LeRaposa Can you please point to a source that backs up your claim? And no, announcing Just Dance isn't enough proof. There could be a myriad of reasons why they announced only one game.
@UmbreonsPapa @LeRaposa because they can totally announce games for a system that hasn't been revealed without spoiling it before Nintendo says anything.
@umbreonspapa they can't because that's the only thing he can use. I refuse to believe that Ubisoft is hyping up the nx more than Nintendo has just for just dance.
@SMW Recently played it on X360, and it was one of my favourite games on Gamecube. That song still pops up in my head every now and then.
@yomanation I've been talking about Ubisoft, not Ancel.
@ThanosReXXX "You don't take this long to make such a simple game."
Yoshi Wooly World, a 2.5D platformer based on Kirby's Epic Yarn-
announced - January 23, 2013
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYet0O5HeNU
released in US - October 16, 2015
That's 2 1/2 years, 31 months, for a 2.5D platformer based on a Kirby game they had already released. You don't think 2 1/ 2 years is a little long for basically a reskinned 2D platformer? Nintendo takes a long time to make games, they just do.
And he hadn't posted yet when I made that comment, otherwise I wold have just hit reply.
I ever tell you my gad school words to live by?
"Don't break it, destroy it. If you break it it can be fixed."
I can't wait until they delay it because fairness.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=azENoxRHT1M
@rjejr I was of course talking about 3DS development, NOT Wii U games, and Yoshi's Woolly World for 3DS has only just been announced in the latest Nintendo Direct, so we can't tell how long that has been in development, but more than likely, they started quite some time after the Wii U version was released.
And what do you want to destroy? Pikmin 3DS?
And trust me, that REALLY isn't Pikmin 4. There's been written too much on it and Miyamoto has also made several statements of it moving from the Wii U schedule, so I don't think they were going to downscale a full size Pikmin game and change it in to a 2.5D platformer with considerably simpler graphics.
If it was from the non-HD Wii to 3DS, then there would still be a possibility, but in this case it's a definite no. If it's moved from the Wii U release schedule, then the only logical conclusion is that it is moved to NX.
@MeloMan Well, you could always buy the original and play that on a GameCube or compatible Wii. But emulation is a good third option. The game itself is certainly worth giving a go.
And I see from the other comments that there's also more current console and PC versions out and about, so for that price it's definitely worth it.
@ThanosReXXX "There's been written too much on it and Miyamoto has also made several statements of it moving from the Wii U schedule"
Find me 1. Just one.
Googled "pikmin 4 miyamoto wii u"
https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=pikmin%204%20miyamoto%20wii%20u
And all I could find was him saying it was moved down the "list of priorities".
http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/07/07/miyamoto-pikmin-4-fell-down-list-of-priorities-but-is-still-in-development
Now tell me this, why would a game be "nearly complete" 20 months before a console launches? Think about that. Nintendo probably hadn't even finished finalizing hardware specs for NX way back in July 2015, is it possible they would have had a game "nearly complete" for it back then? Wouldn't that have been a total waste of Miyamoto's time, everyone's time, working so hard on a game for a console that wasn't even launching for another 2 years? Shouldn't they have been working on something else instead?
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-07-20-pikmin-4-in-development-and-very-close-to-completion
Wouldn't it make more sense that the 3DS game was nearly complete last July, but they moved that down the list of priorities to start working on NX games 2 years before it's launch?
If there have been so many comments from Miyamoto mentioning moving it from Wii U, show me 1. That guy never said NX, nobody at Nitneod did.
@ThanosReXXX To be fair, I'd be fine with the 3DS Pikmin being Pikmin 4, just as long as we get another full/standard Pikmin game at some point. I love that series, so I'll take as much of it as I can get.
@rjejr Man, you are headstrong. I thought I was stubborn, considering me being a taurus...
Did you watch that video I linked to?
First off, yes, there is no official statement of Nintendo or people near them that Pikmin 4 has moved over to NX, so articles on that are speculative at best, but I never said so in the first place, so kind of a moot point.
But it is a very logical conclusion to come to, since it has already been in development for so long, and that was WAY before there was even any mention of a spin-off for the 3DS. And indeed, many, MANY sites clearly mention that this 3DS version is a spin-off, not to be seen as a regular part of the series, yet another point for the "this is NOT f*****g Pikmin 4" camp...
And lastly, both the regular Pikmin game and the 3DS spin-off are being developed by two completely different teams, and I'm very sure they wouldn't just hand over the almost completed console version to a handheld development team to turn it into a 2.5D platformer with lo-res graphics.
And even if they would have moved it to the 3DS, then it would at least have remained the same type of game, especially since according to Miyamoto's own words, the game was all but complete, so they would have to downsize/downgrade the game to make it fit onto the 3DS, but turning it into a completely different game that's just highly unlikely, since that would set them back probably all the way to the beginning. Platformers and RTS games are two decidedly different beasts after all...

And that is strike three, you're out.
In conclusion: simply put, logic dictates it, based upon the facts that we have. I'm the Spock to your Captain Kirk, I can be nothing else than logical. Or at least try my damnedest...
@-DEMISE- Oh, it certainly looks like an enjoyable game, but it's hardly a real Pikmin game, which is why it is called a spin-off. Kind of like a positive version of Metroid's Federation Force...
@ThanosReXXX None of those links dispute Pikmin 3DS in any meaningful way as Pikmin 4. The Youtube vid actually says this is Pikmin 4, b/c they canceled Pikmin 4 and gave us this game instead, making it, in fact, Pikmin 4.
It has nothing to do w/ being stubborn, it has to do w/ with discerning between what Nitneod has actually said, and what other people think things mean.
Nintendo said - Pikmin 4 is almost done.
Nintendo showed Pikmin 3DS.
Occam's razor, Pikmin 3DS is Pikmin 4.
Everything else is speculation and conjecture, there are no other facts.
"both the regular Pikmin game and the 3DS spin-off are being developed by two completely different teams"
Now, if you can show me that, that's a very relevant fact. I tried several different google searches but can't come up w/ anything about developers. It makes sense though, but I can't find it. But if Iwata was true to his word and handheld and home console development teams were merged, wouldn't 1 group be making both Pikmin games?
@ThanosReXXX Hey, I liked Federation Force!
@MeloMan Maybe they'll pull another Bayonetta where they port the original and bundle it with the sequel.
@rjejr No, not merging teams, but departments, to work more closely together, but not to work as one or interchangeably.
Didn't mean to post that YouTube vid, because the guy is talking out of his @ss, which is why I edited it out of my comment. There's no proof whatsoever that Pikmin 4 is cancelled.
The last word was mr. Miyamoto's, stating that it was put on the back burner at some stage, but it is almost ready and it will be picked up again somewhere in the near future.
And as I said, and I'll emphasize it again: there simply is NO WAY that they shoehorned an entire Wii U RTS game into a 2.5D platformer, which would actually have meant throwing away all open world assets and starting from scratch to create it.
"Occam's razor, Pikmin 3DS is Pikmin 4.
Everything else is speculation and conjecture"
Pikmin 4 = Pikmin 3DS sounds more like fabrication and I'd sooner liken it to Schrodinger's cat. As long as the box is closed, we can still claim that Pikmin 4 is also Pikmin 3DS, but as soon as the box is opened, we'll find out that Pikmin 4 is it's own game.
Pikmin 3DS has been officially called a spin-off, so there's that too, and although all first party titles are being made by Nintendo EAD, there are several distinct teams, five in total. EAD Group 4 is responsible for all Pikmin console games:
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/feature/39687/know-your-nintendo-developers-ead-group-4
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_Entertainment_Analysis_%26_Development#Software_Development_Group_No._4
I know that I have read or heard in some presentation who the team is that is responsible for Pikmin 3DS, and it's not EAD Group 4. As soon as I have found something on that, I will let you know.
Have some other stuff to do know, and my evening is almost over, so have to take a break from NLife. I'll be back tomorrow or maybe in a few hours if I still have some time left and if there's anything interesting to report.
@-DEMISE- Well, no harm in that, just difference of opinion, right?
@ThanosReXXX Sure, sure. It definitely isn't a good Metroid game, but I think it's a good game in general. As a fan of pew-pew shooting games, there's not much else to scratch that itch on 3DS.
@ThanosReXXX "Didn't mean to post that YouTube vid,"
The 1 time I read the new comments first and see what happens?
"Pikmin 3DS has been officially called a spin-off"
Googled that one too, no go. A lo tof people have reffered to it that way, but nothing "officially". Had someone, anyone, at Nintendo said that officially, then I woudln't need to be on this rant now, would I? The whole reason we are even discusisng this is b/c there was no "official" word on Pikmin 3DS NOT being Pikmin 4. If they had said it was a "spin-off", then that would have been that. Done. Which is my point, Nintendo never says anything about anything.
"I know that I have read or heard in some presentation who the team is that is responsible for Pikmin 3DS, and it's not EAD Group 4"
You could have just lead w/ that earlier and saved us all a whole lot of trouble.
OK enough about Pikmin, as I said in my original comment long ago I don't know, and you don't know, nobody knows, it's not worth discussing, it either is or it isn't Pikmin 4, Nintendo will tell us when they're ready.
But if it was almost done last July 2015, they should have put it on Wii U, like Zelda.
@rjejr True, but who the heck ever knows what Nintendo's reasons are for doing what they are doing? Guess we just have to wait it out a bit longer. Can't imagine they're going to wait until November or December, so I'm still expecting the reveal to be this month.
@ThanosReXXX My thought for this morning.
Maybe the "special thing" - can't we just call it a gimmick like everyone else? - is that the Go controller - that's what I'm calling it now, is that a HNF word? - while plugged into the Home console, has a screen that is always on, showing you mostly ads, but also who's on line and any messages you may have.
I was actually big on that idea before Wii U launched, thinking they would turn the Gamepad into a digital photoframe or clock - there's actually a Mario clock app for the 3DS - rather than just having this huge black thing sitting in my living room.
Shortest forum thread ever back in Nov 2013
https://www.nintendolife.com/forums/wii-u/photo_frame_clock_app
I know that's not much of anything, and doesn't incorporate VR, but maybe it will? That guy Boogie said that somebody else said they wished they had thought of it. An always on screen display updating w/ ads and who's online and stuff, kind of like the Xbox home screen. But always on.
Back at CES in 2010 (See what I did there) when Sony called it Dash.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHL7-fAWMdk
In 2017 it would be voice activated of course.
@rjejr That's actually kind of an interesting idea, there. And with that final sentence it instantly made me think of Google Home, but then the Nintendo version, with a screen.
Got something for you, too. It certainly made me crack a smile. Perhaps you've already seen it, but if not, here you go:
Oh, and somebody went through the trouble of making a concept video of what he thinks NX looks like based upon all the rumors. I'd ignore the color scheme, unless it's one of your favorites...
@ThanosReXXX Yeah, that color scheme has got to go. But to be honest I thought that guy with the sketches that looked like the Start Trek shuttle a few months back did a pretty good job. I know you probably don't like it b/c it connects directly, w/o a cord, but it's what I envision.
And b/c you know I'm annoying, it can't sit on top like that, it has to be attached to the the front, everybody in America keeps their consoles on shelves, there isn't enough room for on top like that. He did a good job, but it's not practical. It has to work more like a car stereo. You guys might not have enough crime over there to justify this, but over here in the good old US of A, if you spend a lot of money on a sound system, you pocket the front so nobody steals it.
@ThanosReXXX NBC Universal blocked the vid, b/c like it's not available in a million other places. It's ok, I watched the real one, an dorm what I read it was basically the same thing. You can't mock mockery.
Ruby was busy this morning. Some other people crunched the numbers and it sounded good. It's noon, I need to go have breakfast.
@rjejr You'd be surprised how many car radios have been stolen here over the years, especially for such a small country. So we adopted the same system. But nowadays the new hype is stealing airbags...
That concept was also not what I had in mind, but I thought the guy did a nice job regardless. And the drawing also had it on top, only more slanted instead of almost completely upright, like in this video concept.
The only thing I liked about HappyConsoleGamer's drawings was the aesthetics, because they made it look like a real console instead of EuroGamer's drawing of a tablet with a kickstand, and that is why I pointed it out to you a couple of weeks back.
But regardless of me being in favor of the former design, I still don't like the concept itself, much like I also don't like the blue NX video concept, but I do think it's pretty neat if you can make something like that, so I simply appreciate the work done.
But if you have to make me think about it, then I suppose sliding into the front, also slanted, would probably be most likely, if it would have been a dock... But hey, you already know how I would end that sentence...
And yes, little redhead has been busy. I'm beginning to think she's Eastern European/Russian, because of her English and also because of that decidedly communist looking picture in this Tweet:
https://twitter.com/Rubyvolution/status/783058755739066368
And the font type and appearance of her "Better Red" logo...
But I was under the impression that you weren't really interested in anything she had to say? At least, you said last time you weren't impressed.
For me personally, it's not a done deal just because she says so, but she comes with too much specific info (especially today) to be a complete hoax, so I'm pulling the "where there's smoke" card...
P.S.
"is that the Go controller - that's what I'm calling it now, is that a HNF word?"
Yup, it is. At least, he was the first person leaking that exact word, so the word has not been made up by him, but by his source.
So, I guess you're a HNF convert now, then?
@rjejr @Captain_Gonru Well, look at you guys liking the exact same series I like...
@rjejr I thought the "Bang for the buck" comment was hilarious. I now imagine everything she Tweets to be spoken with a heavy (yet sultry) Russian accent...
But all joking aside, it sounds an AWFUL lot like what I've already told you numerous times about the whole value for money thing.
So I expect it to be priced slightly above cheap ($300 range) but with enough functionalities and options to let it be a good "Bang for the buck"...
Da, spaziba, komrad...
@ThanosReXXX All my puzzle pieces are equal, some are just more equal than others.
I can't stand HNF's vids though, and Ruby is using a fake pic, so it's probably a 15 year old pimply boy who just read 1984 in high school and is making it all up. Well not making it up, wrong words, more like massaging others people's info.
But I'm sick of this puzzle, I want to do another one. One where I actually see a pic of it first, doing puzzles blind sucks. I'm guessing even after the reveal there will still be plenty of unknowns such as backwards compatibility and battery life and VC, and whatever that subscription service stuff is.
They should make this guy the NX mascot.
@rjejr Can't stand HNF's vids? I suppose you mean the old crazy ADHD ones, but since he's been doing these live streams with that friend of mine, he has only been using his own voice and image, so nothing there to dislike anymore. And his latest video was very relaxed, down to earth and factual, at least: it only elaborated on what he had already discussed on his Twitter page.
And no, Ruby is really a girl, trust me...
(remember: I found her myself, did not come across her through HNF)
As for BC: I read somewhere in either one of the three musketeers (HNF, SMD, PE) Twitter feeds that there were mentions by some developers of a System on a chip inside the AMD NX Home console, so that would mean 100% backward compatibility for both Wii and Wii U titles, except no disc drive. But there are ways around that, and I already suggested some a while ago.
For example Nintendo being able to verify that you actually own these games by looking at your current NNID, or by you entering the serial number of the game (which is on the box) into a menu on the NX, after which you will be able to download a digital copy for a minor fee, say $5 - $10 or something.
But that's just a guess of course. They'll probably just sell Wii U cartridges or sell titles on the eShop for more money than I just suggested...
I've also been thinking about the whole GO controller only being able to take a form of the game or allow you to play only a portion of the game, and although I can imagine that this immediately conjures up negative images, I can certainly also see the positives.
First off, remember this is the controller, so those people that want the full experience, they will just have to wait a bit for that dedicated handheld that is sure to follow some time later.
They're definitely aren't going to let the 3DS last much longer anymore after 2017, so I'm expecting there to either be some announcement straight away with the home console reveal, or shortly thereafter.
But moving on with the GO controller: just imagine playing a Zelda game, and not being able to progress because you're not strong enough or just don't have the item needed, then the "on the GO" portion of the game could consist of a side quest to find that necessary item, instead of putting that side quest into the main game.
Or for both a Zelda or an RPG game, the on the go portion could consist of grinding, with you going into battle after battle to improve your stats, and when you come home, plug into the console and these stats will instantly be updated, allowing you to finally reach your goal in the main quest.
And I can think of many more applications like that, and the controller could even be used to view and stream let's plays, if Nintendo will finally allow that...
Not that into Pokémon, so I don't care much for a related mascot.
@ThanosReXXX Pretty sure you know the profanity rules, no?
@gcunit You mean the additive to the kickstand? Man, I know you're just doing your job, so I won't hold it against you or take it personally, but sometimes I think the rule, or more precisely: the execution of it really is a tad too exaggerated, some viewing in context would be nice for a change, instead of just flagging words and ruining comments in the process.
And the censored word itself is nothing more than something most of us use on a daily basis and not even as a profanity. There's no mention of diseases, religion or mothers in there, and to have to bear in mind ALL the time that you can't even say something as harmless as that when you're trying to spend some of your spare time on a gaming website is almost a job in and of itself...
And now that specific part of my comment has also lost it's meaning, since I really meant to say that it's a lousy/worthless/crappy kickstand, not a normal one. /rant
@ThanosReXXX I think we both know what you can do with your context... (submit some feedback to the site, obvs)
@gcunit I know, hence the not blaming you and the smiley. It is something that irks me at times, though. Especially if a comment is not meant to be profane at all, and you're just not always aware, so there was no malicious intent and it sucks to be reprimanded for that.
Especially for someone my age. Normally, I'm the reprimander, not the reprimandee. Few people dare, in real life...
@ThanosReXXX You got in trouble again? You really don't like that dock idea do you? Maybe you can bribe the guy w/ Ruby's phone number?
It's late, I'm tired, I'll catch up w/ ya tomorrow, potty mouth
@Captain_Gonru I was talking about the TV series, which I presume @rjejr was also talking about. And what melodrama? That bit of romance that they add in the mix with all these series?
If that's indeed what you mean: it is a natural part of it, love interests are also in the comics. Used to be quite addicted to comics, by the way. Spend pockets full of cash on it, to a point where it got out of hand and I had to stop cold turkey...
As for Arrow, I'm a sucker for slightly nerdy girls, so I just LOVE Felicity Smoak. But both of the detective's daughters and Arrow's sister are also more than welcome to come and visit me...
And both Arrow and the Flash are great series, getting better with each season, just stomach the small parts that annoy you; there's enough left to more than enjoy them.
I haven't yet watched any of the other series, but I'm sure @rjejr can tell you all about those...
(@rjejr did you go and delete that comment mentioning the various series or am I going partially blind?)
@Captain_Gonru Don't think I've contacted you yet today about my usual Thursday Target exploration.
POP has a DC Legends of Tomorrow line. Some were ok.
Remember when we discussed if NES Mini would be in the videogame section or over w/ the toys and cards w/ the other plug-n-plays? Well Target took care of that, they moved all of the Sega stuff into the videogame section where the DI toys used to be.
Lots of nostalgia junk like the big Marvel and Star Wars wall on top. Pac-Man of course. And it looks like Sony and MS will be getting in on the action as well.
Somebody needs to bring back K-Tel records memorabilia, they had the best graphics. I can' tpick just one.
https://www.google.com/search?q=k-tel+records&espv=2&biw=1440&bih=808&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjkieH6ysfPAhVOAx4KHWlkBCwQ_AUICCgD
@ThanosReXXX I didn't delete anything, maybe your censorship buddy deleted it for being off topic?
@rjejr There was a comment of you mentioning all the series, which is gone now, or was that in another thread?
@Captain_Gonru @ThanosReXXX I didn't mention any of the series, I just said "that show", figuring Gonru would know which 1 I meant.
I think this says something about the state of the world when there is now officially more footage of Bigfoot than there is of NX. I guess once bigfoot is confirmed real people can start saying "UFOs, the Loch Ness Monster, and NX".
http://time.com/4521028/bigfoot-michigan-webcam-eagle-carbontv/
@Captain_Gonru Oh, they also had 2 or 3 of those New Purple New Style New 3DS XL next to 2 or 3 of those New 3DS Mario bundles. I was impressed to see such stock. Maybe they will hold off on NX until CES in Jan and milk 3DS and NES Mini this holiday? jk
PMCS is on it's way from Amazon, shockingly didn't see any out today, Target always puts stuff out early. First time for everything I guess. so going to bed now
@Captain_Gonru Well, @rjejr mentioned the series too, which is why I responded to him and you earlier (comment #60).
Can't personally comment on any other series than Arrow and The Flash, since I haven't seen any of the other CW series yet, so I'm going to have to take your word for it. Although, if the vibe in Super Girl is somewhat similar to Smallville, which also had a lot of teen related stuff in it, then I'll probably like it just the same.
@rjejr no, you didn't. It was indeed the Captain after all: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/09/video_new_nes_mini_trailer_shows_off_games_display_options_and_user_interface#comment3665581
Probably got mixed up in my head because of all the back and forth between articles, being reprimanded and so on...
I guess that because of him mentioning it to you I must have thought that there must also be a comment from you mentioning it, otherwise: what the heck would he be responding to?
In and of itself, it was kind of a weird comment, going from Animal Crossing to TV series, with nothing to tie them together, so maybe now you can understand why I got a bit confused...
P.S. Thought you were going to call it a day?
Well, I am. It's already almost morning over here, so time to catch some zzz's. Not too much to do tomorrow, which is good, otherwise I would probably not be too focused...
@Captain_Gonru Yeah, baseball is dead to me unless the Cubs play the Sox, even I can't pass up history 100 years in the making. But there's a lot of baseball between now and then.
What happens first, Cubs win the World Series or NX reveal?
Trick question, Cubs will never win the Series.
@Captain_Gonru I don't have Netflix, I watch Arrow and the Flash on cable TV, mostly on Fox, who also have a lot of other great series. I do have BitTorrent, though...
I did watch some early footage and trailers from Super Girl and first impressions didn't really seem to point at them being all that more adult than the Smallville cast, other than having jobs instead of being in college, but I'll have to take your word for it.
Quick addition to the whole "teen angst annoyance" thing: you can be the most powerful being in the world, that doesn't take away the fact that you still have feelings and having to fit in to a normal world still puts up the same hurdles that we normal people have to overcome.
Unless of course the super human is willing to just destroy anyone not agreeing with him/her, but then it would be a story with a more evil twist...
@ThanosReXXX Your girlfriend had a few new tweets.
NX Mobile Unit / Controller / 'HH':
✔️ Apps.
✔️ Barebone components.
✖️ 3DS 'replacement'.
Sounds like a tablet. I'd put a except I'm serious.
Which means it's even worse than a Gamepad if it can't stream, so it better stream. Of course if it's only a tablet w/ no physical buttons then streaming won't help. Unless it comes w/ a Gamevice like EG said. This just keeps sounding worse and worse to me, not better and better.
#justtellus
Edit - we watch Flash and Arrow, not the other 2. SG looks too bright and crisp, LoT was horrible, they should have gotten Nathan Fillion b/c they wanted him to be Malcolm Reynolds but he wasn't anywhere close. And they killed off the only guy I liked. We'll watch the cross-over episodes if need be but only if need be.
@rjejr I'll check out those other two series: like to form my own opinion...
But up til now I've also only watched Arrow and The Flash, so even if the other two series are lousy, then I'll still have those two. Might create some gaps in the story with crossovers, though.
As for that checklist you posted:
My dear online friend rjejr, it's JUST A CONTROLLER!!!
And from all reports, combining little redhead's and HNF's Tweets and other rumors, it does stream, hence the whole "GO" moniker.
Here's another checklist for you:
AMD HC GPU Specs:
✔️ GPU Clock: 880 MHz
✔️ TMU's: 128
✔️ Stream Processors: 2048
✔️ ROP: 32
✔️ Memory Bus: 384
Finalized.*
Now, I wanted to do the math on this one, but luckily for my lazy behind, somebody in the comments section already did it for me. That puts the home console at a very healthy 3.7TFlops, which is well above the PS4 and only moderately weaker than the PS4 Pro.
Now doesn't that sound awfully similar like that rumor mentioning NX as something being in between PS4 and PS4 Pro power-wise?
Like Morgan Freeman said in Bruce Almighty: it's good, it's all good...
And both that dedicated handheld and the SCD to add even more oomph will arrive later in the year. The checklist you posted clearly shows that the controller is NOT a replacement for the 3DS, so that is probably going to last us until Q3 2017, but after that, it's time for something new. Enter NX handheld...
@rjejr P.S.
That checklist of yours could also be applied to the Wii U GamePad...
That oughta tell you enough about it not being a real handheld, just the streaming device for the home console. And the whole story concerning the "handheld" only being able to play mini games or portions of games is shaky at best, seeing as how Boogie explained it all away again on Reddit, like I showed you yesterday, so his information is also second hand.
That 21st
SeptemberOctober date does seem to be more and more likely, by the way. Especially since the next shareholder meeting is on the 26th, so it would be good for them to get the reveal out of the way so that they can discuss actual plans and trajectories with their shareholders on the 26th.@ThanosReXXX By that September 21 reveal date do you mean Oct 21? I did some research on that today and all I could find was 1 guy named turtlefish or something surmise that date b/c that was the 5 year anniversary of the first ND. That's its, 1 wild guess speculation. And while it's as good a date as any, I'm not writing any fake sick notes for my kids just yet.
And if it plays apps and the controllers come off ITS A TABLET!!!
#justtellus
@rjejr Yeah, my bad, of course I meant October. Must be getting old...
And that date, although just a rumor for now, really isn't all that odd, considering that shareholder meeting. Doing a reveal during that meeting seems unlikely and AFTER the meeting is even more unlikely because Nintendo would then be asking its shareholders to trust in something they haven't seen yet, so they won't be able to invest in it in the proper way.
So, not set in stone, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it actually IS going to be revealed on the 21st or at least before that meeting, so 25th of October at the latest. Just give your kids the week off. Or record the event for them...
As for the controller: none of the later rumors mention the breakaway controllers, so I'm ignoring that one. That's only EuroGamer's story being rehashed by others, and they themselves have been awfully quiet of late, so for argument's sake let's just call the damn controller either a GamePad 2.0 or let's keep the code name GO controller. I actually like that one.
And according to the latest rumors it also fits in your pocket, and that also doesn't sound like a tablet. A Samsung Note at most...
And as for the home console: if this rumored list of components is true, then I can sleep easy, save in the knowledge that there will be no damn dock (or at least not a dumb one) because those kinds of innards don't fit inside a simple dock.
The console could have some sort of slider/connector to insert the GO controller in, but it would still be a console and not just a dock. Glad we got that out of the way for good this time...
@rjejr Check HNF's Twitter, he's ranting away, but he does offer some interesting new bits of info...
@Captain_Gonru You should go and check out HNF's Tweets as well. Yesterday he was on a mini rant for a bit, but now he has posted and retweeted a lot of good stuff. There's even an interview that Emily Rogers did with SMD64...
And this one is also particularly interesting:
https://twitter.com/Happy_Nintendo/status/784538137309609984
Now where have we heard that one before? cough>patent<cough...
@Captain_Gonru Yeah, true. Most if not all Directs have taken place on Tuesdays or Thursdays, so Friday would be something different. Then again: the whole of Nintendo is supposedly different nowadays, what with the reorganization on multiple levels and unifying of the brand/label, so maybe it's also time for a new day for the Nintendo Direct broadcasts...
Oh, and baseball won't really be of any importance or influence: that's really being a bit too American-oriented, since a console reveal will be a worldwide event, and like with American Football, the rest of the world really doesn't care much for these sports, so I don't think that Nintendo would forego that date just because of something like that.
@rjejr @Captain_Gonru And what about that latest leak from little redhead, huh?
NX:
✔️ Described as: Physically large. Sharp aesthetics.
✔️ Plastics in 'HH'/HC.
✔️ Subscription 'tier' based system MIGHT be a thing.
@Captain_Gonru @ThanosReXXX
Made it 24 hours w/o a post, but then reddit rumours.
NL decision making is getting right up there w/ Nintendo Logic. I mean if they are going to cover reddit might as well cover HNF, SMD64 and Ruby. I'm just leaving that gif and going.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/10/fresh_retail_source_reportedly_reinforces_and_outlines_new_nintendo_nx_rumours
@Captain_Gonru ""subscription tier based system""
Well, that seemed almost inevitable since both Sony and MS have had theirs for 2 generations now with PS+ and Gold. Of course I have no idea what it could mean. Who knows, maybe crazy Nintendo did put a cell phone data plan chip in the handheld so we can play it on the go for $10 per month? Or more likley all you can eat plans for NES, SNES, N64 and GMaecube VC for say $5, $8, $12 and $15 per month, each higher level containing the lower. Or it could just befor playing online like PS+ is required to do.
But, like the reveal date, I have no idea, that OCt 21 date is just hogwash based on some guy named Squish turtle making an educating guess that b/c the first ever ND was on Oct 21 5 years ago the reveal will be too. Every other link has 6 degrees of separation from that 1 guy just guessing. So dont put it on the calendar just yet. Might as well put it on the calendar for every day this month if you do.
http://squishturtle.com/nintendo-likely-to-reveal-nx-on-october-21/
#justtellus
@Captain_Gonru amen on the ignorance thing, would be nice to not know all the stuff and silly rumors we have seen come and go up til now, but unfortunately we did, so guess we have to hold on for a bit longer. I'm still expecting that reveal this month. Maybe not on the 21st, but if they handle it the right way, and March is still the planned date, then they better get it out of the way before the shareholder meeting on the 26th.
@rjejr If they're gonna make it $10 a month, then I won't subscribe. I can get Xbox Live Gold for $32 a year, with any device support, log in from any console and 4 free games a month, so they better up their game there.
They need to catch up and overtake, as far as I'm concerned. I'm thinking full online access to the entire VC catalog, so you don't have to download them but can simply play them online, and significant price reductions on eShop and Wii U titles.
And that NLife article indeed... and still clinging onto the hybrid BS, by now it isn't even funny anymore. I didn't want to comment there, but as you will have noticed, I couldn't resist after all, also because people are once again seeing things that aren't there, and that annoys me.
@rjejr @Captain_Gonru have you guys seen this one?
https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoNX/comments/56jomc/leak_goodies_from_a_large_retail_partner/
Posted by little redhead, but she says she's going to delete it, so I put it up here before she removes it. I personally don't see the need for the whole post and delete method, seeing as the actual Reddit page will also stay up, unless of course someone notices and they get a cease and desist, which would actually only confirm that there is some truth to it...
@rjejr @Captain_Gonru And yet another forecaster has crawled out of the woodworks, claiming only he has the true story on NX:
https://twitter.com/iamsherlock1889
@rjejr @Captain_Gonru And of course it was also high time for another Nintendoomed article again, this time courtesy of some analysts...
https://mynintendonews.com/2016/10/08/nintendos-future-in-gaming-disregarded-by-market-research-group/
@Captain_Gonru "I drop calls in my living room"
I know the feeling. Not in my own home, but my parents live out of town, and when I'm at their house, I have to LITERALLY lean over into the outer window sill to get any reception, otherwise it's barely one bar on my display. (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge)
As for the tech behind it: if it's DeNA providing it, then you can be sure that it will be a very decent and stable service, and it will indeed be able to make you play games anywhere. They're already doing that right now in Japan with their own lineup of mobile games, so I don't see any reason why they couldn't do the same for Nintendo.
@Captain_Gonru I have no idea if DeNA is doing their games over Wi-Fi or 4G, I'm suspecting both, depending on your whereabouts.
But we agree on the cost, like I already said before to @rjejr. I'm not going to pay a monthly fee to be able to play online if I can play online for a whole year for only a fraction of the cost that a monthly fee would set me back for.
And even in this tiny country over here there's rural areas with lousy internet, so I'd imagine that almost any country in the world will have such areas. It'll only be the size of these regions that'll be different, but the problems are the same.
@ThanosReXXX That IamSherlock guy is good. It's all my hybrid comments strung together nicely. Handheld w/ DMP M3000, dock sold separately, so it's just a cheap handheld. Handheld w/ cheap dock for TV out bundle at 720p, SCD bundle for 1080p w/ controller. Not saying he's right, but he's good, and it works with my 50%. And thank goodness no detachable controllers.
@ThanosReXXX @Captain_Gonru Guys, don't spend so much time on a data plan on my account, I don't think it's happening, was just throwing it out there. I need to throw out puzzle pieces occasionally to make sure they don't fit. It was just an example of "tier". And you're wrong guy Gonru, Xbox live didn't start as binary, there was none, gold, silver, silver was free. So maybe tier means "no option", my brother in law with a Wii U has NEVER set up an account online, no NNID or anything, then free option, and paid option? But no tier will have a data plan.
@Captain_Gonru Well, other than what I've already said, I have no idea. I'm not that well versed in mobile online, to be honest. Maybe you should look into DeNA themselves if you want to find out what kind of tricks they can pull from a hat.
One thing I do want to add: I assume you are thinking about a service with a sim card or something, seeing as you mention carriers, but a simpler solution would be to simply log in to DeNA's servers directly, no carrier needed, only a Wi-Fi (hot spot) or mobile internet/4G connection.
@rjejr Not really a big effort or trouble on my part, and what else do we have to talk about? We've talked NX to death, and I now go by the bite sized leaks of little redhead, but other than that, I'm more or less done talking about the hardware, so the services is the next best thing to discuss. And you did bring it up...
@ThanosReXXX I think the only focus now should be where the cart goes.
If it goes in the Go, then it's a handheld with TV out.
But if it needs the dock, then it's not a hybrid, it's a handheld and a Gameboy Player. Especially if it's sold separately.
If it goes in the home/base/dock then it's a home console with streaming to the Go controller.
If it plays w/o the Go, then it's a home console. If the Go needs to be docked, then it's sort of a hybrid. Still not sure if dock means wire or not.
But for now, to me, tell me where the cart goes, then I'll describe the system - handheld w/ TV out, home w/ streaming, hybrid. If both the home/base/dock and the Go have a cart slot, well then it gets interesting. No, then it's just a home and handheld, and maybe Fusion if they work together. Gotta find the cart slot. Sounds like something Trump would be good at.
@rjejr Oh for heaven's sake, not the dock thing again, that's done and dusted far as I am concerned, so I'm looking onward, to other more realistic options.
And there will be no cartridge slot in the GO, it will either be streaming or download gameplay. It's a freaking controller, there's no need for it to have a cartridge slot in the first place.
Cart slot only in dedicated handheld and home console, whether you like it or not. So rest easy, I've already found it for you...
@rjejr @Captain_Gonru https://twitter.com/Happy_Nintendo/status/785214050099757057
@ThanosReXXX There will be a dock, I feel pretty good about that. Now whether it's just a little dock that the SCD plugs into or a big dock that is itself a home console I don't know, but something will be "docking" somewhere, I can't get around that. Whether it's a Sony Dash or a credit radio, so ethnic has to dock somewhere, if only to be charged. When all is said and done, some day, use of the word dock as either a noun or verb will be appropriate. Again, I'm not sure if it's a noun or a verb either.
@Captain_Gonru I don't really do happy. And I just meant discussing a SIM card might be as relevant as Halo, Forza and Gears of War on NX. The precedent has already been set with Microsoft owned Minecraft on Wii U. If Wii U can get 1 MS game then NX can get them all.
@rjejr "so ethnic has to dock"
What the... ? Must be a typo...
But really, there will be no dock, trust me. I also have no idea why you would feel good about having one. And if there is some kind of connector/slot on the home console that you can click your mobile controller into, then that is not a dock but a connector...
I think you are trying to force an idea again, but there's a big difference between a slot/slider/connector and a true dock, and the latter is a thing I abhor, even am close to being disgusted about, because it sounds VERY un-Nintendo and it also sounds WAY too much like the whole EuroGamer garbage, which I'm also really quite done with.
So, if you have discarded their rumor, then you should logically also discard the dock, because that was solely their idea. No other rumor mentioned it, unless it was a rumor or article piggybacking off of the EuroGamer article.
@Captain_Gonru Yeah, I figured you were more talking about mobile than a dedicated handheld. I'm thinking handheld, in which case you'd only need internet and not a sim card or a provider, much like with the current handhelds.
With the streaming controller/GO controller you would also not necessarily need a sim card or any related service. If it can work with Wi-Fi/hot spots, or some similar protocol, then that will be enough. Or maybe they will offer some service from DeNA themselves and have some kind of sim built-in, who knows?
As for things to discuss, how about that Reddit leak from the marketing employee?
https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoNX/comments/56jomc/leak_goodies_from_a_large_retail_partner/
And maybe little redhead will come up with some interesting new stuff, if she can indeed keep up with her promise of posting something new each day until the release.
Right now, I'm listening to that live stream I linked you guys to in comment #108, and some interesting stuff has already come up.
@ThanosReXXX "I think you are trying to force an idea again"
I'm not trying to force anything, all of my ideas are open, you are the one who uses phrases like "that's done and dusted far as I am concerned". How can anything be done when we don't know anything yet? Yes, EG has but 1 rumour, but they are all but rumours, rumours and trying to guess what people mean when they say things. To be so certain of something when we know something doesn't make any sense to me.
I don't know if there will be a dock or not, b/c I don't know anything, but I'm pretty sure that if one device connects directly to another - no wires or cables or wireless - nobody is going to refer to it as "sliding" or "connecting", somebody official is going to use the word "docking". Maybe there is no docking, maybe that's all just a myth. No car radio removable face-plate, no Sony Dash always on screen, just a controller and a home console, then a handheld, nothing touches anything else except for electrical power. Maybe there will be no sliding or porting or connecting, maybe it's all wireless, even the charging. But if a controller is "part of" a home console in any meaningful way, it's "docked".
@rjejr Yeah, sorry about that, was a bit too heavy on my part. Got really annoyed by the word dock. That's a real hate trigger for me nowadays, much like "hybrid".
As for the usage of the word or the verb, that all depends on semantics or how you look at it. Over here, your car radio example is also not called a dock or the front "docking" into the radio. Translated, it's called a "sled" because it slides into the dashboard bay, and the front is just that, and it clicks onto the sled to activate the radio.
In the other article, about the "Fresh Retail Source" I think I've pretty much covered it. Also the to be or not to be of the whole hybrid fallacy.
The Wii U also had a charging stand/dock for the controller, but that didn't make it a hybrid, and neither did the fact that you had to use the GamePad with the console. If the new console is indeed a device that uses and improves upon the concept of the Wii U (although I do think that there is way more to it then that) then that is also not a hybrid, and the verb I would use, and a hell of a whole lot of people with me, is that the controller will "connect" with the console to perform some actions, or even to be charged. I just don't see the necessity of forcing the word dock or docking upon it, since the action in itself can be designated by all kinds of words, such as the examples I've already given in the previous comment.
And the done and dusted, although slightly out of irritation, is also because of what me and @Captain_Gonru have agreed upon: we have discussed, rehashed and rehashed the whole list of options again and again, so it's kind of done.
All I care about now is an imminent reveal, preferably this month, a good amount of decent games, and a good marketing campaign to make it instantly clear what the added value of buying Nintendo's latest console is.
And whether or not it's mistakenly seen as a hybrid because the home console has a streaming controller doesn't interest me in the slightest.
@rjejr @Captain_Gonru The day's updates:
SMD64 Tweeted about an AMD tablet with detachable controllers, because some idiots didn't believe him that AMD could be involved with something like that:
https://twitter.com/SMetaldave64/status/785353542190018560
He also tweeted about a possible disc drive add-on for Wii U/Wii backward compatibility:

Might make you happy, @rjejr, if it is really a thing...
HNF reiterates which IP's will most likely make a comeback:
https://twitter.com/Happy_Nintendo/status/785435163899592704
Other than that, he is just discussing the Reddit rumor of that retailer leak, and also offers a page of his favorite French website gameblog.fr that also discusses the very same topic.
The latest little redhead leak:

Nothing special, other than that. And finally, we have a couple of videos, among which the now uploaded HNF live stream from yesterday and another recorded live stream from SMD64, both with some really good points.

Safe to say that I don't agree with most of what he says, but I've posted the link anyways so that all sides are represented again in the interest of fairness...
@Captain_Gonru They need to get Joss Whedon on board to rope in Fillion. If J.J. Abrahams can do both Star Wars and Star Trek Whedon can do Marvel and DC.
We're in the midst of doing a run thru of all the Marvel movies as my kid has seen the 2 Avengers but none of the others. Though ater seeing th ecomerical a few times for Dr. Strange - 1 of my favorites as a teen - we may have to skip that one, it looked ridiculous. Which I'm sure is what they were going for, like Ant Man, but you can't make a comedy abut a surgeon losing the use of his hands. They should have gotten Nolan and made it dark and moody like Batman. Well maybe not that dark and moody, but the trailer is utter garbage.
Well that's better, found a slew of trailers on Youtube, all of which are much better than this 1 I keep seeing on TV.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mk8wfbkoSuo
And the shorter version, not helping.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVjN5lFCvHg
I don't even care how off topic I get anymore. If Nitneod wants me to talk about NX, then they should talk about NX. Or about all the Wii U games I have to look forward to this holiday now that we own Paper Mario Color Splash. Oh wait.
@ThanosReXXX I don't see that "sled" word catching on. Well maybe in Canada. I guess growing up in a boating family - my father's father had a ahem big wooden structure in his yard that he would park his boat next to - and I spent a lot of time growing up swimming and fishing off of it. My dad still has a boat, he parks it somewhere else now.
Thanks for all the links. Don't suppose any of them lead to anything official, huh?
I had a 127 emails this morning, that's a lot, even for me.
@rjejr It's not a word that needs catching on, it's already official.
And in and of itself it's also logical, for reasons I explained when I mentioned the word. The radio is housed in a metal contraption that slides into your dashboard console.
And no making fun of Canada, leave that to South Park...
"Big wooden structure"
You mean a dock?
If it was a structure like a shelter/shed, then I'd call that a boathouse (or a boardwalk or if it was really big a marina... ). Anything but a d.. nngghh!! cough! hack! choke!... aargghh...
@rjejr EDIT:
Forget about the sled. My memory is betraying me. The sled contraption was actually what we had BEFORE the removable front, so when you parked the car, you had to slide out the ENTIRE radio. The removable front was a considerable improvement...
@ThanosReXXX That AMD tablet looked just like Wikipad. I'm surprised we haven't come across it before, we've been fairly thorough. Well you more than me, but I like to think I've helped.
I did notice it was at CES, which I still think could be an NX infofest if they want the casuals back. And if it's a tablet w/ detachable controllers. Which I still don't think it is. Not for any particular reason other than I don't want it. But I can't rule it out, just wish it out.
As I already said, Sherlock is 100% on board the hybrid, point for point almost w/ what I've been thinking it could be. And he has your Vulkan and DMP in the handheld, he just doens't believe in a Home, which is weird, b/c w/o a home, why have Vulkan? (based on my understanding from you)
I don't necessarily believe he's real, but if I was all in on hybrid I think I could write just as convincing a string of tweets as he has. So he could be right, even if it's all in his head. So many rumours and ramblings at this point I suppose somebody has to be right just on luck. 33/34 slots on a roulette wheel, somebody guesses right sometimes. #justtellus
@ThanosReXXX OK, those sleds I recall, we had those here too. Somebody I knew had 1 and I was always making fun of them. It made sense to call that a sled as you had to slide it in and out. Popping a front on and off didn't really requiring sliding, more attaching and detaching. Putting on and taking off.
Guess we'll have to wait and see, and I don't like "hybrid" either. Not for the reasons you don't, I still think it could be what EG said, but the word itself implies too many things. leaves too much wiggle room. I think no matter what this thing is, somebody will claim it is a hybrid. It could be a freaking watch and somebody would say it's a hybrid b/c it plays games and tells time, so it's a hybrid device. And if they bundle a $200 home console and a $200 handheld in 1 box people will say that's a hybrid, even if it's clearly 2 separate devices but being in a bundle will make it a "hybrid".
So it will be a hybrid, and it will have a dock, even if it isn't and it doesn't. I need to get past the words. Everybody does, it's hanging everybody up. Well at least the chips should be easy, AMD, DMP, Nvidia, easy to decipher. But who really cares about those. I want good games and affordable hardware for my entire family. I'ma cheap one, it's always about price w/ me.
@rjejr As for Doc Strange, one of my favorites too. I wasn't as annoyed by the trailers as you seem to be, and Cumberbatch seems a perfect fit. The only gripe I have is that we have to change the ethnicity of certain characters again, and this time even the gender.
I also fiercely discussed this on several sites when the first Thor movie was released. Ridiculous amounts of accusations ensued, going from moderate to me being a racist, which is so not the case.
I just don't think that you can have a black guy depicting a Nordic God, hell not even a Scandinavian native citizen. I actually really like the actor himself and his work, but it's almost like we have to have the token minority or black guy somewhere in the movie, so as not to potentially step on people's toes.
So, why not make Black Panther a white guy? And Captain America an Italian? Hell, Ant-Man could be an Asian: they're good with tiny electronics. (or come to think of it, Ant-Man himself is rather unintelligent, so maybe we should have an Asian dr. Pym or Tony Stark)
As for Vulkan, you could also use it on a single device or two devices with the same architecture, and it would work perfectly, but it's just not making the most of it, so in that respect it would indeed be weird to choose that specific API, since there are plenty of others.
The main site from Vulkan offers some info that's relatively easy to digest, and underneath it also a link to the website of Xenko, the game engine which is powered by the Vulkan API and which will be implemented on Nintendo devices... wait for it... mid 2017.
So, if they first come out with a console, and second half of 2017/Q4 2017, then that would line up perfectly.
https://www.khronos.org/vulkan
http://xenko.com
I've also did a little comment on this underneath that video from Studio Q mentioning that Sherlock idiot, because the guy from Studio Q mentioned that handheld and home console both being DMP would make perfect sense for cross platform development.
So I decided to thrash his delusion with a factual comment...
@rjejr Yeah, that AMD thing is off the scales, but far as I understand from people in the comments, it was only ever a concept, not a real thing to be sold. And I do think you helped. You were the first to link us to the Game Vice and the Razor tablet too, if I'm not mistaken.
And I don't think you're that much about cheap, otherwise you wouldn't have so many video game related stuff in your house, like all the toys to life collections and such. Individually not that expensive, but all of them together can really rack up the numbers...
And agreed on some people/idiots calling it a hybrid, but that would also make the Wii U a hybrid, or even the GameCube and the GBA connection, people can really get the weirdest ideas/view points and try to pass them off as being truth or fact.
The only thing in that story that matters to me is that factually, I am 100% concerned that it is NOT going to be a
dockhybrid, so I'll sooner croak than ever call it one. A controller or even a handheld syncing with or (physically) connecting with the home console also doesn't make that any more true. Not in the slightest...And if Nintendo markets the damn thing right, then THEY will designate the words, not we. Unless we're talking about the dumb and/or uninformed, but we should really ignore that demographic...
And in the box will probably be the console and the GO controller, so not a dedicated handheld. SMD makes an excellent point in his live stream recording that releasing a handheld in March, even if it's a hybrid, will massively damage sales projections for remaining titles on the 3DS (and 3DS/2DS sales themselves), since the release list schedule of that handheld still runs up til July 2017 and maybe even longer since some titles are still designated as TBA.
@ThanosReXXX I did like most of the other trailers I saw, Matrix meets Inception (which I've never seen except the trailers) but the tv ones playing up the jokes, those 2 weren't doing it for me. Of course in a serious movie the occasional joke can be a nice change of pace, but the "M.r, Dr., Strange, I don't judge" conversation seemed way out of place. We'll see, probably when it hits DVD, we never make it to the movies on time.
You skipped this thread. Post #28 explains why I don't like the word "hybrid", and why there can't be a "hybrid".
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/10/editorial_reminiscing_on_hoarding_streetpass_hits_and_why_any_nx_portable_should_keep_them_alive
The only way I see a "hybrid" working is by making a weak $199 handheld attach to an inexpensive $99 dock. But that isn't a hybrid, it's a handheld w/ TV out. But it's the only way I see a "hybrid" working right now, a hybrid that isn't a hybrid. If it's a $299 console w/ a portable Gamepad, well it's a home console w/ streaming. Which people will probably call "hybrid", but that isn't either. Basically, hybrid is a mythical creature that can't work in reality. Kind of like NX is a myth. So I guess they go well together.
@ThanosReXXX I think Linus Torvalds would agree w/ you about NX needing AMD. Well x86 AMD, not ARM AMD.
http://www.pcworld.com/article/3129300/linux/why-linux-pioneer-linus-torvalds-prefers-x86-over-arm.html
Though it does make me think Linus would like DMP - which I'm assuming is closer to ARM than x86 - in both Home and Away. (Been a while since I typed that.)
Would be funny if Intel wound up providing the chips.
http://www.computerworld.com/article/3127791/computer-hardware/intel-moves-beyond-x86-puts-64-bit-arm-processor-in-new-fpga-chip.html
@rjejr Found some interesting info myself:
http://www.ign.com/boards/threads/theory-not-mine-nintendo-xilinx.454819775/
Comment nr. 4...
I have also been busy with perfectly fitting XilinX into the story, more so after you or the Captain kept asking me what they do specifically and subsequently wondering if that wouldn't be too expensive for Nintendo.
And in looking for the puzzle piece, I actually overlooked the very thing mentioned in the comment linked above, and that is that they also make FPGA's and what they could be used for...
I'll explain more if necessary, but I think that comment I linked to will make it clear.
@rjejr and yes, I skipped that Street Pass thread. Not really my kind of thing and I hardly ever use it.
@rjejr And never seen Inception? Have it on Blu-ray. It's a great movie with amazing visuals. And it's even good if you can't stand DiCaprio...
There's no nodding off or falling asleep though, or you'll lose track of the story, it can become pretty complicated at times.
And some people hated the ending. I actually loved it, because it prompts you to think about some stuff that has previously happened in the movie.
@ThanosReXXX It's our 16th anniversary this weekend, going to see Spamalot - an off off off Broadway play based on Monty Pythons Holy Grail film - my wife and I are fans of the movie - but we'll try to squeeze Inception in also. Maybe the NX reveal is in there somewhere? It's not out here.
Though all will be revealed before the investor phone conference end of the month, those investors want to know if March still stands, and they probably want to see just what it is at this point as well. Though probably only days before, not weeks.
I predict that regardless of it's hardware specifications, Xillinx, DMP, AMR, SoC, FPGA and Vulkan do not get mentioned during the NX reveal. Games and where the cart goes, that's all we gotta know.
@rjejr Agreed on that, but I already said to @Captain_Gonru yesterday that I'm more or less done with speculating on the hardware and the innards: we've already been there and back again and rinsed and repeated it how many times? Either way, too many as far as I am concerned.
I will keep reading HNF's and little redhead's Tweets and of course we'll keep track of new videos, but other than that, my speculatin' days are over. I have more serious things to worry about...
Here's the latest "pull the hybrid huggers' legs" Tweets from HNF:
https://twitter.com/Happy_Nintendo/status/785534562025824256
https://twitter.com/Happy_Nintendo/status/785538634267107328
And I see you've been commenting on his Tweets too...
EDIT:
And that actually makes me wonder why I posted these Tweets in the first place, since you've probably already seen them...
@Captain_Gonru argh, tablet ate my comment again.
Short version, I like my Strange as a mystical Mr. Spock, old and wise, not a Brooklyn hipster, leave the jokes to the sidekicks. Charles Xavier like. But we'll see. Maybe I'll take my older son to see it in 4d ultimate extreme magicvision, or what the flavor of the week is.
@Captain_Gonru Well, Heimdall is from the "home turf" so he should be Viking-like. There is that one guy who is a Hun (Hogun the Grim), or something similar like that, in the company of Thor, but he is also described as such in the comics, so he's justified in being there, but a black actor playing a white Norse Gatekeeper God is just too much of wanting to be politically correct or SJW. I don't even know what their specific reasoning was.
Idris Elba is a great actor, and I have enjoyed many of his roles, but he will never be a Norse God, so that was just a dumb move if they were looking for a good actor. And his role wasn't even all that big, so they could have stuck anybody they liked in that suit.
@rjejr Steven Strange is supposed to be a surgeon in his early thirties, so old and wise is a no go. He is arrogant, brilliant and loaded with hubris until he loses the use of his surgeon's hands, after which he becomes the ocean of tranquility we now know as Dr. Strange, but since you know the comics as well as I do, I'm not telling you anything new here...
"argh, tablet ate my comment again."
Yeah, smart devices suck. Keys and buttons are so much better...
@ThanosReXXX @Captain_Gonru
So I'm laying in bed at midnight trying to go to sleep, and I decided to try and envision what the NX might actually look like. Both the handheld and home consoles, so either fusion or hybrid, though I hate both words now, like pro-life and pro-choice, both too politicized to have any true meaning. And what I discovered was, I could get them pretty close.
Whether its a home console w/ a Gamepad 2, or a 4DS with a TV out base, it can still look very similar. It will play different - WiFi streaming home or a handheld connected requiring another controller - but the outside could look the same either way. If you have a PS4 Slim or X1S and took out both the HDD and optical drive, that's at least half the system size. Leaving something probably about the size of a PSOne. Wii and Wii U aren't much bigger than that now and they have a disc drive, take that out and you practically need only the bottom half of a New 3DS XL.
So I think that's how I'm making my jigsaw pieces fit. Whether the base is just a charging cradle or an entire home system, the handheld will connect on top of it, like the Gamepad sits on the charger now. And the high end bundle would come with another controller to keep the screen docked, like a Sony Dash. So it's basically this, but w/ the detachable screen moved to the front.
And when the screen controller and the base are nearly the same size and attached, it would probably be difficult for anyone to tell on first glance where the processing is being done. And that Sony screen is just a screen, but how about a Gameboy Advance on top of a Sony PS1 dev kit, w/ 2 ports in front, 1 for NX games, 1 for 3DS carts? And you could still have a slot on the controller, or handheld, depending on what it does.
If they would have built the charging cradle onto the top of the Wii U and included Wi-Fi in the Gamepad we would have had NX already.
How much smaller could a Wii U console have been if it ran on carts, not discs?
So no sled or pop-off front, the home console base will be too small for that. And whichever way it goes, there will be a cheaper dedicated handheld to replace the 2DS in late 2017 or 2018. Who knows, maybe that will even be a tablet w/ removable controllers like Gamevice, Aikun Morphus or that AMD thing. Kids market is too huge to ignore.
@rjejr Man, that must have been some nightmare. Would certainly have been one in my case: WAY too much Sony stuff. That's almost like swearing in the church to me. (it's a Dutch saying, don't ask, but I think you'll get the gist of it)
As for other ideas concerning the form factor, you forgot two puzzle pieces, namely little redhead's:
✔️ Described as: Physically large. Sharp aesthetics.
And the description from the verified Reddit leaker:
✔️ The packaging for the NX will be slightly larger than the Wii U's packaging.
I personally also don't think that the home console will be small or smaller than the Wii U. I'm guessing it'll be more similar to the other two: they will need to if there is some capable hardware in there, and then there's the thing about cooling.
And having a card slot really won't do all that much to the PCB space wise, since a drive mostly sits on top of a motherboard, so not having a disc drive does not necessarily create more space on that board. It could possibly only make the console a bit thinner/sleeker, but not smaller, because the size of the motherboard will remain the same, so it could still be a PS4 Slim/Xbox One S-sized box with a Nintendo logo on it.
I also don't think that the controller has to sit on top of the console. They could also charge it wirelessly by just laying them side by side or something similar.
So, you think you got them pretty close, I'm thinking square peg, round hole again...
By now, it really is anyone's guess. We can't go by EuroGamer, no leaker is taken seriously by any mainstream media outlet and people like Boogie retract their story after going public on an event, so who to believe now?
My own research only pointed in one direction, with a couple of options, but even that is based on sources that I trust to have given me factual info, but of course that still remains to be seen.
The only possible verdict now is "Go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect $200", jail in this case being square one...
@Captain_Gonru I'm still thinking on the Go controller with a 5 - 6 inch screen, so that could fit into a pocket, kind of...
But if it's (mini) tablet sized, then it's still portable, since people also carry these with them. Just not in their pocket...
@rjejr @Captain_Gonru So, having said all that, here we go with another video, this time from YXBA, a friend of SMD:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bgece60n_G0
And here's a Rule of 2 Review video that ponders the question that we all are probably seriously doubting by now:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvozQyu4NNc
@ThanosReXXX "And the description from the verified Reddit leaker:
✔️ The packaging for the NX will be slightly larger than the Wii U's packaging."
I read that as - "I saw a pic on poster and guessed how big it was." If you read somewhere someone who actually saw the size of the box, not just a promotional ad for the size of a box, then I'll reconsider. Also, there is ZERO reason to think an NX promotional poster would have a Wii U box next to the NX box, they stopped promoting the Wii U long ago. So the person was just guessing size based on a picture, which probably was not life size at all. I categorize that as useless information. The only way to really guess size based on a picture w/ no comparable objects in the pic is to guess. If the person who saw the pic thought NX was a handheld they probably imagined a small box, if they thought it was a home console they probably imagined a big box, but you can't accurately judge size based on a pic, you have to rely on preconceived notions of what's in the box. I wouldn't even trust myself to adequately judge. If I saw the box I would, but not promotional material, which is all I've read anyone saw.
As for the size of the motherboard, well things are getting small these days, so I'm guessing closer to PS One or PS2 Slim than PS4 Slim.
Look how tiny a PS2 Slim is compared to PS3. No HDD makes a difference. It's like a trade paperback book, 9x6x1".
And look how small a Dreamcast was to a PS3.
Or a PS One - the original "slim".
Only 2 reasons for a "big" home console, optical drive and HDD. Take them out, and you almost have a Gamepad.
@Captain_Gonru They can't make it small enough to fit in your pocket b/c of the NFC reader they have to fit inside of it.
And besides, GBA, that's their hardware, and I think it sold ok.
@rjejr No, no, no my friend. You REALLY need to get that idea about the disc drive out of your head because it's simply not correct, so all pictures are wrong. First off: you obviously can't compare previous gen consoles with current gen. Compare the PS4 with the PS4 Slim, not with the PS2.
Here's a better picture, comparing the current PS4 and Xbox One with their sleeker successors:
As you can clearly see, the differences really aren't all that shocking.

Same goes for the Dreamcast picture:
The Dreamcast would not have been smaller if they had removed the disc drive, since like I already told you in the previous comment, it sits on top of the motherboard, so removing it doesn't even remove a single millimeter from the motherboard.
Here's the insides from the Xbox One and the PS4:
And here's a side by side comparison:
As you can clearly see, the Xbox One motherboard takes up almost the ENTIRE length and width of the inside of the casing, and the PS4's motherboard only has a small cutout for the hard drive, but otherwise it's similar.
So, removing the optical drive = no change in casing or motherboard size. And as the PS4 motherboard shows, even a removal of a hard drive won't change the outer casing, since we can hardly have a console with some weird edges or corners in them because of a bit of empty space.
Besides, if they go with an SSD then Nintendo will also need that space in the box, so that too would make it similar.
To make it even more simple, just think of the console as a layer cake: you're not cutting out pieces, because the base (motherboard) needs to stay the same size, so you only remove layers (hard drive, optical drive) but because you do so on a horizontal plane, the size of the cake won't be affected, only the height...
So, there's not just two reasons for a big console, there's only one and that is the motherboard. The size of that dictates the size of the box, and it will only shrink if technology allows for putting the same amount of chips on a smaller dye, hence the "Slim" models of consoles later in their life cycle.
@rjejr Oh, and you can start to reconsider that Reddit retailer leak: it never said that they got the size of the box from a poster, that part was just about the marketing.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoNX/comments/56jomc/leak_goodies_from_a_large_retail_partner/
The box size estimate and other comments concerning packaging more than likely stem from a dummy box, something used in all kinds of industries to help stores to estimate how much shelf space the final product will occupy, so that's probably it.
I also think that because of the entire list of info. As a retailer, just having that on paper or on a poster makes no sense whatsoever if you have to make preparations (and room) for it in your shops.
@rjejr @Captain_Gonru Oh, and here's another good, slightly longer video from YXBA, in which he has an interview with Denis Dyack, and they talk about all the leaks up til then. It is an older video (July) but I don't think I've shared it with you guys before.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-Fi3TA-Nns
@Captain_Gonru That's still a big pocket...
I keep my own 3DS XL in it's own carry case and put that in my bag or rucksack if I go somewhere with it.
@ThanosReXXX OK, I'm reconsidering the package comments as being from somebody who has seen a mock-up box, not a pic on a poster.
Just went into my basement where I still have the boxes for my PS, PS3, Wii and Wii U. The Wii and Wii U boxes are about the same size, which are about 2/3 the size of the PS3 box. So even w/ the humongous Gamepad in the box the Wii U box is still 2/3 the size of the PS3 box. Now look how much smaller a Wii U is compared to a PS4 and X1.
Now take the part where the optical drive is off of the Wii U to make it 1/3 smaller still. So it's possible to have a NX box slightly larger than a Wii U box, yet still have a console much smaller than the other 2.
So that's my story and I'm sticking with it, box may be big, NX home will be similar in size to Wii and Wii U, not PS4 or X1. Not unless it has a disc drive and HDD.
Oh, I don't think they'll actually put a SSD inside the NX, just the chips on the motherboard, maybe a daughter-board. It won't be an actual replaceable drive like the PS3/4 have. Those chips won't take up much room.
Cubic inches
PS4 - 260 - 10.8x12x2
X1 - 450 - 13.4x10.4x3.2
Wii U - 130 - 10.6x6.75x1.8
Wii U is HALF the size of PS4, so I'm guessing a smaller NX
NX - 108 - 9x6x2 less than half the size of PS4
@Captain_Gonru If you consider a 3DSXL to be small, then I'd stop worrying if I were you. And besides, knowing Nintneod, even if they do take the Gamepad 2 off of it's proprietary leash and let it work over Wi-Fi, they'll probably limit it to the same router so it only works in your house. (I'm not sure how, but I know limiting it to the same "network" is a thing.) Well probably for streaming, if it streams. If it works like a high powered VMU then I guess you could take it anywhere, but who's going to carry such a big thing for Chao Adventure? Well maybe the same people who carry around 7" tablets.
OK yeah, I could imagine the Gamepad being a portable non-starter, sticks get in the way. I suppose that's why it may have detachable Gamevice controllers to carry it as a tablet? Maybe later on when 2DS needs a replacement.
I got NX figured out to be a small home base console w/ a controller w/ a screen, rest of the details are still flexible. I still haven't even decided where the cart goes yet, much to @ThanosReXXX chagrin.
Honestly, if I could only have 1 question answered, that's the 1, "Where's the cart port?" Not Home or Away, not hybrid or fusion, not Nvidia or AMD, not 720p or 1080p, those are just marketing words or irrelevant details. Cart port location shows if it's a home or handheld console. "Is Pikmin 3DS Pikmin 4?" is question 2, hardware is hardware, I want to know about the games.
@Captain_Gonru My smaller white trash Target was in the midst of remodeling yesterday, my son was happy to finally see Playmation was no more. Its so weird being in the 2 Targets now, they were a little different before, but now 1 is all wide open smartphone merchandise, the other is still videogames.
And I see your point about NES Mini not kicking out the Wii U. They could just be saving that space for more 2/3DS though, Pokemon is coming. And SMM for 3DS. And Sonic Boom, MP Star Rush and YW2 just all recently released. I guess they'll keep those 3 Wii U in stock to hold that place for those NX boxes. regardless of what size they are.
Maybe I can spend the next 3 years keeping track of the Wii U inventory like I did for Wii Mini which only disappeared w/in the last year or so.
2 more weeks until the Nintendo investor meeting, then they'll finally be forced to tell us something, whether they like it or not.
@rjejr In some ways I have to smile, both at your (to me) humoristic writing style, but also at your tenacity/steadfastness. Albeit a smile with a decent bit of head shaking going on at the same time.
You still stick with the "no disc drive, and no HDD, so the form factor of NX is smaller" idea, even in light of the overwhelming and conclusive evidence to the contrary that I've given you, which does not look good on your resumé, my friend.
And of course, my layer cake metaphor was absolutely brilliant and self explanatory.
It could be thinner/sleeker but NOT smaller, as in length and width. So, if standing it will be thinner, and when lying down it will be lower/flatter.
I'm not sure if that's the thing going on here, but to me it seems like you're extrapolating the shape of the NX by looking at the Wii and Wii U, as if it must somehow have a similar form factor, in which case it will obviously be smaller then either the Xbox One or the PS4.
But that's just the thing, that's not a given and even more probable: hardly likely if they are going for similar hardware, in which case you can expect a motherboard that's more or less the same size as the other two, give or take a few square centimeters.
Current technology simply doesn't allow for a smaller PCB, so like I said: the motherboard is the deciding factor in the size. And that size is determined by the number and types of chips that need to be placed on it. That's not an opinion, that's a fact, so it's not debatable or questionable. The lack of a disc drive and HDD really don't matter, unless we're talking past each other and you also mean slimmer/thinner instead of smaller.
But even with a cartridge slot, you can't cut the height of a console in two, because you will still need enough room for heat dissipation and cooling of the motherboard/CPU/GPU, so at the most, you can slice off a third. Which would make that comparison picture look like this:

And another thing to keep in mind is that we actually cannot compare the slim models of the other two with NX, because NX will be in it's first iteration, so if that is going to have some smaller form factor at some point, then that will be somewhere down the line, and not at launch. You first need to have the hardware in it's original form before you can actually rework it into a smaller size...
Oh, and putting these memory modules on the motherboard also takes up space, so they must either make a separate module for that, which like the optical drive in the other consoles, can be mounted on top of the motherboard, or they do it the simple way and go for a single block of flash memory, either in the form of an SSD or something custom that Macronix has cooked up for them, and they could do that relatively cheap, seeing as prices have once again dropped.
No, I'm going with little redhead, SMD, PE and HNF: capable hardware, in between PS4 and PS4 Pro, or slightly above PS4, in a larger form factor than we're used to from Nintendo. If the hardware is indeed similar or better, then tech limits simply demand it. Case closed.
As for your two questions: I already tackled those weeks ago.
The cartridge slot will be in the home console AND in the dedicated handheld that will arrive later, otherwise it will be very difficult to share games between the two. The streaming controller will NOT have a cartridge slot, since that is basically just a Wii U GamePad done right, so it will not be an autonomous device other than the fact that it can stream from long(er) distances.
Pikmin 4, a game that has been in development for YEARS, and was built upon the engine of part 3, will not all of a sudden have magically transformed into a 2.5D platformer.
Just think of the ridiculous amount of extra work to be done to re-do all the artwork from full 3D to side scrolling and from the looks of the gameplay, the whole game is a lot simpler as well, so there's no way that this is the game that was already near completion. HNF and SMD agree with me...
So, there are no questions anymore other than: when the hell is Nintendo going to show us anything? And of course, how many games will they have in the first couple of months, and will they be any good...
Oh, and although I partially agree with you on what matters and what not, and what are marketing words/irrelevant details, I don't think that 1080p should be on that list: it's more or less required and expected for a console coming out in 2017, especially if they want to lure some of these third parties back.
No Ubisoft (or enter other positive) exec is going to be enthusiastic about a small, weak, hybrid box that struggles to maintain 720p/30fps.
But maybe all of us need a break from trying to crack NX's Da Vinci code. It incites too much rehashing and overthinking, resulting in all kinds of negatives and improbabilities.
I'm going to try and stick to just watching and reading stuff, but I'm done speculating or trying to counter/refute things that aren't correct imho. It yields little to no result, it's tiring and at times can take the fun out of my day/evening, and no hobby should do that, so I think I must take measures to prevent myself from constantly setting myself up for that kind of stuff, no offense.
Business is also going less than smooth, so I already have enough on my plate there.
To lighten up my evening, I've decided to go and watch trailers of upcoming series & movies, inspired by your Dr. Strange comment, and lo and behold: I came across the new Power Rangers trailer...

@Captain_Gonru Indeed...
And what do you make from the 10 to 80 Tweet? A sneaky resolution reference or age categories?
@ThanosReXXX "Can interact with the HC GPU temporarily."
Do you know how things can interact temporarily? You DOCK them together. Maybe insane Nintendo is putting both the Home and Away in 1 box? hmm
I think "10 to 80" was a spellcheck from 1080p.
And we've been over everything 100x, no reason to stop now, though movie trailers are a nice interlude.
@rjejr Nope, xnay on the ockday...
There's no outsmarting the IT guy, remember?
Home and Away in one box would make a starter pack of $499 or more, and that is not going to fly, and it's not going to happen either, because of the 3DS.
And the whole temporarily interacting can also be done wirelessly when in the same room, which could for example mean during play sessions, and therefore temporarily.
I don't think the 10 80 was a misspelling of 1080p, save for one made on purpose. She has been way too consistent and precise up til now with her information to make such a stupid mistake, and even then: how do you mistakenly put a word in between the numbers? And the word "from" in front of it also doesn't make sense if it's a mistake.
No, she did that on purpose, for some reason or other.
But I wasn't kidding: I'm done with the it's this, it's that, and trying to make my points to almost no avail, so that stuff is going on the back burner, and for the coming period all my attention will be on my company, where it should be at the moment.
And hopefully, they will release at least some information this month, so we can ALL be done with it. The whole subject is getting long in the tooth, or actually has been for quite a while.
I'm this close to growing a pair of tusks...
@ThanosReXXX I'm fine w/ stopping, you're the one w/ the twitter/Youtube addiction, you'll be back here in the morning after a good night's sleep.
2 weeks tops, investor phone call on the 26th, they have no choice
@rjejr No, that's not what I mean. Earlier, somewhere in the comments here, @Captain_Gonru and I more or less agreed that we have done this whole thing to death and that there's no use in further speculation on what the hardware does and where what goes.
That does not mean that I won't be reading Twitter feeds or watching videos, like I already said in comment #151:
"I'm going to try and stick to just watching and reading stuff, but I'm done speculating or trying to counter/refute things that aren't correct imho. It yields little to no result, it's tiring and at times can take the fun out of my day/evening, and no hobby should do that, so I think I must take measures to prevent myself from constantly setting myself up for that kind of stuff"
I always say what I mean, and I mean what I say. I'll read and post Twitter feeds and keep everyone up to date on videos whenever there's something to report that's interesting enough, but my picture of what the hardware is going to be is pretty much complete, I have no missing puzzle pieces, no doubts, and I'm pretty sure I'm right, so I see no reason to keep rehashing it for the next few weeks to come.
Especially not if the words hybrid an dock keep popping up. I cannot even put into words how much I hate these ideas and words and how VERY un-Nintendo I truly believe they are.
There's only one source that can make me change my mind, and that is Nintendo themselves. Until then and as far as I am concerned, I've got the whole concept nailed and everybody else is wrong.
Except for the special gimmick, but as you know I've already given up on that one long ago and I don't care about that anymore...
And if people still try to yank my chain or drag me into a hardware discussion done to death, I'll just pretend not to hear, because I've been visited by the Angel of Deaf...

@Captain_Gonru @rjejr http://happynintendofan.blogspot.nl/2016/10/multiple-sources-nx-reveal-in-october.html
@Captain_Gonru Yeah, I already noticed earlier today. Those damn Nintendo Ninjas must have gotten her with a C&D notice, too close for comfort...
I've thrown out a couple of PM's to people that know her to see if I can find out what's going on there, but I'm not counting on anything conclusive. In one of her earliest Tweets she did mention something about her account being hijacked, so maybe something of that order happened again and she just decided to erase it entirely, so perhaps she'll return with a new one. Guess we'll find out soon enough. Or not...

@Captain_Gonru @rjejr Just got confirmation from HNF that little redhead has indeed been presented with some kind of warning.
HNF himself almost received one as well, but he got a heads up through his contacts at Ubisoft, who warned him that he had better stop before getting an official notice from the big wigs at Ubisoft or Nintendo themselves.
Certainly explains the slow news day on his own page as well. Guess little redhead wasn't as careful as he is...
@ThanosReXXX What the frank does "almost got a warning" mean, is that like "a little pregnant"? Either you keep going until you are asked to stop, or you keep going and you aren't asked to stop. It's not like Nintendo has actual ninjas that come and cut off your thumbs if you keep posting. You get a cease and desist, then you disist.
Oh well, I guess I don't get any of this secrecy at all. I did just get a phone call from the garage where I dropped off my car for a New York state yearly inspection and spent 30 minutes walking home, and it needs $700 worth of work to pass. Wonderful. And my lower abdomen hurts, probably a hernia, or an ulcer, or testicular cancer. I need to find a new foctor, last one got disbarred. But Nintendo is worried about us knowing if their video game console runs on Nvidia or AMD chips. The horror.
@Captain_Gonru Have you figured out CW and Hulu yet? We watched Ep 1 of Arrow and Flash the past 2 nights. Arrow seems good - I've been waiting 4 years to get to the Russian mob stuff - but Flash better get back to his own reality w/in the next few episodes or we're done. We both hate fake stuff - dreams, alternate realities or dimensions, hallucinations.
@rjejr What's not to understand about almost getting a warning? Red got flagged and lost her contacts and is struck with a C&D from Nintendo themselves, and HNF got tipped by his Ubi source that he needs to lay low because one more bit of sensitive info leaked and he too would have gotten an official warning.
That would have meant him having to remove all relevant info and tweets and shutting up about new stuff. Which, by the way, he certainly seems to be doing, since there isn't much noteworthy information to read on his page either recently...
Funny thing is that it was kind of an indirect warning for me too. I was actually planning to reach out to my own Ubi-source again because I'm still sick of all the non-communication from Nintendo and thus lack of info on NX, but I think I'm just going to leave well enough alone now. Not really in the mood for any potential trouble...
@Captain_Gonru Well, nobody ever said you should let gaming or these rumors take over your life in the first place, so...
I'm also going to focus on other things because since I've started working in my own company again after the summer holidays ended, results have been less than desirable, so I need to give that a lot more attention than I have so far, so all of this is not even secondary but even lower, and like I already said before to both you and @rjejr, we've pretty much covered everything already, twice over and maybe even three times over, so I think I'll be okay without the rumor mill for a while.
I'll take all this humdrum with little red and HNF as a sign that I must indeed take a little step back. It's only a hobby after all, right?
These last couple of weeks I was going through internet pages and YouTube videos like crazy, just to find the tiniest bit of new information that could satisfy my need for NX news, most of the time kind of a disappointing hunt, especially recently, so time to move on, the reveal will come when it will come, for now I still believe it's going to be before or during the quarterly shareholder meeting, which is a physical meeting, by the way, @rjejr, not a conference call...
And you hate fake stuff? Then you shouldn't watch fantasy series (and movies) at all: they're all fake...
And alternate realities and dimensions actually do exist, most renowned scientists agree on that, so not really that fake...
P.S.
Hope you are okay, maybe you're joking, but I'm not really a fan of mentioning terminal diseases in general conversations...
@ThanosReXXX Well my thinking is if I joke about my potential terminal illnesses then they won't come true. Kind of like joking every time I see Trump on TV - there's our next President. But it was just a bad day today overall, here's hoping for a better tomorrow. Not figuratively, literally tomorrow.
@Captain_Gonru Cablevison - well formally Cablevision now Altice - is usually pretty good about the keeping old episodes around, it's 1 of the reasons I keep paying them, for their "free on demand" service. I watched all 22 episodes of Grimm, mostly commercial free, over the summer. I'm not a big fan of squeezing their weirdness into my schedule though - 58 minutes for the first 5 days, then 48 minutes for a week, then 53 minutes after that. So I'll try to watch those 2 shows every Sun & Mon or Mon & Tues.
@rjejr Ah okay, well if you put it that way, I can understand. Still not a fan of the c word, though...
And what's up with tomorrow? Did I miss something?
Funny thing I noticed with both you and @Captain_Gonru that more and more series keep coming up that we all watch, Grimm being the latest addition to that list. I don't know which season we're talking here, but there's definitely more than 22 episodes...
If you like Grimm, then you might also like Sleepy Hollow, if you haven't seen that yet. (I'm guessing you probably have, though)
@ThanosReXXX I kept meaning to watch Sleepy Hollow but never got around to it, then I heard season 2 wasn't very good so I abandoned it.
And today was just supposed to be better simply b/c yesterday was just so bad, but today is off to a worse start, for no reason, just my mood, so I'm going back to bed until tomorrow. We'll at least until later this afternoon when I have parental duties.
@rjejr Well, I don't know who you've heard that from, but I always like to decide for myself if I like something or not and season 2 was just fine, even had some really exciting moments. But in the end it's up to you of course. Can't dictate what others must watch, I can just give them tips on what I think are good shows...
