Re: Reports About Super Mario Bros. 35 Being A "Rip Off" Of Last Year's Fan-Made Battle Royale Simply "Not True"

DevinRex

Imagine trying to claim a company who owns the IP as "ripping off" a fan game that ripped off an IP in the first place. The amount of butthurt.
News flash: Illegally stealing someone's IP means you give up all forms of ownership to the project. Next time, don't use actual copyrighted characters so your idea doesn't get claimed or shut down, idiots.

Though on that note, I'm pretty sure that Nintendo had the original idea to begin with. People just like to whine for clout.

Re: Random: Nintendo Posts New Image Of Mario In The Sunshine, Internet Goes Wild Again

DevinRex

@Giancarlothomaz That can be said for most games released in that era. But I'm sure its no problem. They've done it before.

Ocarina of time remasters, the "New play control" series of gamecube games like Twilight Princess and Pikmin / Pikmin 2, etc. For the Wii and so forth have been games that Nintendo had to recreate to become more modern and accessible.

The first change would be how FLUDD would work, since obviously the Switch controllers are digital. What I would do (and Nintendo if you're listen please do), would be to release the game with adjustments adapted to a digital pad, but also release a sunshine themed Gamecube controller and dongle as well which can revert it back to the analog controls.

That way, new players who want to just play the game can, and old-heads like me who like the satisfaction of the analog controls have that option as well. Allowing players to switch between which controls they prefer. Win win.

Obviously if I were them I wouldn't stop there, and do that with every gamecube game that requires such controls, but that's just how I would tackle it.

Re: Random: Head Of Xbox Appearing On Animal Crossing Talk Show Next Week

DevinRex

The little children whining in the comment section aside, I do appreciate seeing an exec from a competing company be willing to talk on a Nintendo show.

At the end of the day, what matters most is games, irrespective of platform. I'll definitely be getting a Series X to accompany my Switch, but would still like to see what he has to say. I assume there will be talks about Gamepass and asking if they'll see it on Nintendo's consoles.

Excited to see what they discuss. Nintendo and Microsoft building their relationship together is a huge win for the rest of us.

Re: Nintendo President Apologises For Joy-Con Drift, Can't Comment Further Due To Ongoing Lawsuit

DevinRex

The amount of Nintendo apologists on this site always baffles me.

They made a shoddy controller that was unreliable and people feel taken advantage of for it. That's a totally justified feeling to have, especially if you paid money the product. Even more justified if you are still under warranty.

You bought the product, you should expect it to work properly, no questions.

I love Nintendo, but what's fair is fair. They can't escape this lawsuit. I think for them this is a lesson in quality control. I guarantee you that the next joycons they make will be a lot more durable and reliable from this experience... Hopefully.

Re: Ever Wondered Why A Villager Left Your Island In Animal Crossing? This Latest Datamine Reveals All

DevinRex

@CdrJameson I like change, when its healthy change. Emphasis on "healthy". Allow me to clarify:

Exploiting a game through unconventional means wherein it causes the company to have to step in and patch it out (such as those dupe glitch exploits), games that have exploits that cause grief for others (ganging up on people in smash as an example), sending glitched, hacked, and fake pokemon to random people online and at times causing their games to lock up, etc. isn't changes in behavior that I view as healthy, and im glad such methods are getting weeded out and fixed in my Nintendo games. Other methods that don't try to break the game or aren't technically affecting other people / isn't seen as problematic by Nintendo is fine by me.

Re: Ever Wondered Why A Villager Left Your Island In Animal Crossing? This Latest Datamine Reveals All

DevinRex

It's funny to me to see all the new people complain about villagers leaving randomly, when this type of thing has existed since the series was first created. It would be like someone complaining on why you have to choose one of three starters in a Pokemon game. That's just how it is. For me, I don't time skip all that much so I have nothing to worry about in terms of villagers leaving all the time. If I want a villager to stay I always have enough time to keep them. One of the perks of playing at your own pace 😊

Re: Yet Another Animal Crossing: New Horizons Item Duplication Glitch Has Been Found

DevinRex

@Wexter I see where you're coming from. I'm also glad you brought up Pokemon as well because that's a great example. I hold the same stance. Exploits are fine, but frowned upon. Like if someone used glitches an exploits go get all their rare shiny Pokemon or rate furniture and items, awesome, but they lose lots of respect in my book when they then try to act as if they've worked hard and played the game fairly to achieve it. I could also be projecting there as well, as I've been in many a community where people pranced about thinking their gods, so to speak, when they've simply cheated their way into wanting to be seen as an "experienced player". That's just my personal peeve there though. People who get their items, furniture, villagers, Pokemon, etc using more... White-hat methods always get a bit more respect from me, but that could be my old-fashioned way of gaming speaking.

Also we agree on the ebay thing with a special exception. I'm completely against micros and find it kind of scummy. Once you get actual money involved in the mix and start charging people, it becomes a slippery slope down sleeze-ball lane. The one exception I will give though is for those who are again, buying it for themselves, instead of reselling it back to the community.

Like, if there's a villager you really want but is extremely rare, don't have any villagers anyone wants to trade for them, and you don't want to spend an eternity in RNG hell to find them, and you're not planning on reselling it for a marked-up price, I'm okay with the "black market sale" in that case, as it's strictly for your own personal use. I guess the same applies with Pokemon there. If they are being traded to someone else, I think it is at least out of respect of that person to let them know it's origins / how said item was obtained, just to be transparent / if they have any questions about it.

Overall though I think we both agree in how exploits should be used / when it's a problem, so it's nice to see some common ground there. ☺️

Re: Yet Another Animal Crossing: New Horizons Item Duplication Glitch Has Been Found

DevinRex

@Wexter Buying items from others online, visiting said people's towns, the cost of said items being traded online, etc. all are impacted by the dupe glitch. I like to trade items with others online, and I'd prefer them traded and obtained fairly. Period. Repeating the "how does this affect you?" Question because you don't like the answer doesn't change that.

Simply put, If you like to cheat in your games for yourself and your own enjoyment, you do that. Don't cheat to try and exploit others who've worked to collect said items / want to visit a town for fun / trade items without cheating. It isn't about "supply". If you can generate items using a glitch, which becomes way more profitable than playing as intended, it encourages others to play that way as well. This indirectly affects how people play this game, and don't be surprised if said glitch is patched out. You assume that risk, and obviously Nintendo sees that as not playing the game as intended.

Also: Having villagers join your town is completely different from a glitch / bug that Nintendo is actively patching out. Obviously they intend for said villagers to be sold or invited over, otherwise the option to invite to another town wouldn't exist. That was intentionally coded into the game, unlike the dupe glitch, which is an actual bug. I fail to see the connection between the two.

Long story short, dupe all you want, but don't suddenly get butthurt when Nintendo removes a glitch that was never supposed to be in the game to begin with. Just as you have the right to use said exploits, they have the right to take that exploit away from you.

Re: Yet Another Animal Crossing: New Horizons Item Duplication Glitch Has Been Found

DevinRex

@Wexter I've already given examples as to how. Here it is again in case you've missed it:

For example, someone could use the dupe glitch to make infinite rare items, sell them online, and charge others extremely cheap priced to completely tank the market. Or, they could then charge extreme prices just for access to their town. It's not a problem in theory, but this kind of behavior was never really the point of Animal Crossing, nor intended to be played in that way if that makes sense.

Re: Yet Another Animal Crossing: New Horizons Item Duplication Glitch Has Been Found

DevinRex

@Stouticus You're right, but the issue comes when it also involves others. For example, someone could use the dupe glitch to make infinite rare items, sell them online, and charge others extremely cheap priced to completely tank the market. Or, they could then charge extreme prices just for access to their town. It's not a problem in theory, but this kind of behavior was never really the point of Animal Crossing, or intended to be played in that way if that makes sense.

Re: Random: Of Course Someone's Made Super Mario Bros. 1-1 In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

DevinRex

It looks fantastic, but after seeing so many of these already, I'm personally starting to wonder if more can be done with these pieces than just "Look at this Sprite art that came from that one game you remember!"

Nothing wrong with recreations of course, but it would be nice to see more people do something fresh and new with more of the custom DIY / terraforming tools rather than just a huge flat town with some ripped Sprite art thrown on top of it. That one town I saw where someone made an actually liveable city is kind of what I mean.

But to each their own. Just thought I'd share my nitpicks on something I'd never be able to do, great work all around regardless.
