Re: Uh-Oh! It Looks Like Donkey Kong Bananza Is Already Out In The Wild

DevinRex

Why does stuff like this always make headlines? This happens with literally every game before release. Someone out there gets it early, posts it on social media and everyone acts like it's the first time it's ever happened. Then people go "Wooaaoohh! Will they play it before the rest of us!?!" and the answer is always something along the lines of "Something something we can't because XYZ, or update, or cuz we'll get our console bricked, so we have to wait until release day "

I remember when Cyberpunk was coming out, and it was the exact same type of post... Same when Pokémon Scarlett & Violet, etc. You never know where the game comes from or how it was obtained, and the "sources" are always secret.

History repeating itself. At this point, I'm getting the impression that it's all scripted to build hype / chase clout.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Director Acknowledges Performance Drops: "We Prioritized Fun And Playability"

DevinRex

@Eduard_Brenton This ... I'm sure the game is going to be great, but if I'm paying more money, I expect a better performing game. Tons of people are not going to like to hear this, but sadly Nintendo isn't the only video game company out there and we don't live in a bubble, therefore... I don't think it's worth the price on the tin. But hey, that's just my opinion. Fully destructible worlds have existed before in games that are a lot cheaper is all I'm saying lol.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Director Acknowledges Performance Drops: "We Prioritized Fun And Playability"

DevinRex

A few frame drops here and there aren't going to deter Nintendo fans of this game, and I'm sure it will still sell well regardless. That said... Donkey Kong never was my kind of game, and while I thoroughly enjoyed Mario Odyssey (which this game obviously is based on) I have no incentive to play this game at launch, so best of luck to whoever is buying this. I just don't think it's worth $70, so I'll be waiting to buy this used at a discount.

Re: Nintendo Of America President Says Tariffs "Not Factored" Into Switch 2 Price

DevinRex

I agreed to the $449 price that Nintendo listed. I think with how expensive the games are on their own they can take a tiny loss per console. They'd more than make up for it with their IPs.

Sorry but I don't agree with most people here saying to "just accept" the new price. We're not entitled to pay even more for a product that is just a luxury item, and trying to tell people to just "consume product" isn't a healthy way to do business. At the end of the day, all of those who could afford the price hike of the new console will get one, and the rest will wait for the inevitable price drop. I'm in no real rush to get a switch 2 so I'm not all that worried about it.

If I were Nintendo though, I'd leverage the original price for NSO owners who qualified for registering to pre-order the console through their website, then for everyone else so whatever with the higher price. That way there's an even bigger incentive to buy through Nintendo's system and ensure real Nintendo fans get their console to play and not to scalp.

Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Switch 2 Direct

DevinRex

A new animal crossing game would be awesome, though I wouldn't be surprised if we get it a few years after console release. The main thing I want this time around is a solid 60fps like the older AC games. It adds a level on immersion for me that was a bit lacking due to the lagginess of the previous title, though I loved New horizons all the same.

A new Mario kart at launch is a given. I'm surprised smash wasn't talked about more.

I also expect digital cartridges to also work between Switch and Switch 2 systems.

Some nice to haves: Please bring back Miiverse, it was awesome having something like that during the wii u days and such a breath of fresh air over trying to use social media to get help with games. The real time aspect and the community feeling of getting help from people who played the game and having them respond directly to your posts from in game screenshots was so rewarding.

I want GameCube games to be playable on Switch 2. Specifically, Kirby Air ride. In the very least, I want a new remaster of that game so badly. Imagine Kirby Air ride with Online City Trial lobbies, similar to smash or Mario kart. Or heck, online lobbies for all the game modes. Add more warp stars and add DLC, keep it a solid 60fps minimum, and polish up the visuals and I guarantee that this game would be a huge hit, just like it was when it came out on GameCube.

If not, at least just let us play the original Kirby Air Ride again on the new console. I would buy that in a heartbeat.

Re: Feature: Which New Hisuian Pokémon Are Viable For Competitive Play?

DevinRex

@mr-duster There is a should, and there is a care.

Game Freak doesn't find it feasible anymore to do so, because they don't make any money from it. They should do it, because that's what the community wants. They don't care, because it's not in their best interest of nickel and dimeing features on every modern Pokemon game. Saying "It just wasn't gonna happen" is easy to do in hind sight.

Before sword and shield were announced, Pokemon Home gave everyone the impression that they'll be moved to the next game without any limitations. #Dexitgate wouldn't exist without that fact. The franchise is called "Pokemon - gotta catch them all" not "Pokemon - gotta catch some of them and leave out the others because we're too lazy to include every monster".

@Ramen756 - Agree to disagree mate.

Re: Feature: Which New Hisuian Pokémon Are Viable For Competitive Play?

DevinRex

@mr-duster I was hoping you mention those. I disagree with the comment about "no one" having a problem with it. I've seen many who did and made complaints about the two extra Regis being unecessary, and I don't like the fact that new Regis exist either. Still, it's game freak, and just because a bunch of people complain, doesn't mean they will listen to them (Exp share and National dex anyone?)

And the game never "Needed" an Enamorus either. My point stands.

@Ramen756 We have different views then. Magmorter Rhyperior and Electivire all look similar enough to be considered evolutions of their predecessors but different enough to be seen as the next steps as well. In addition, their designs are subtle improvements on how they attack (Electivire has terminals as an upgrade, in addition to the bulbs on Electabuzzs head for example). What does Sneasler have that Weavile doesn't? An edgy design for Furrycon with more freakishly human proportions and a stupid name. Weavile looks like an actual evolution. Sneasler looks like Sneasel... In it's awkward teenage phase. Lmao.

And they all look hideous to me, but Enamorus is especially hideous. I'm tired of the stereotypes Japanese companies put on women. I can see them in the studio now:

"Oh it's about fertility, so it must be a female, and let's make her pink with hearts and name it based on love, because girls are all about love and ponies and pink, but instead of ponies, make it a turtle."

C r e a t i v e

I can argue that a Jynx evolution would literally have served the same purpose, looked better, and actually make more sense, seeing it be right in line with the description of the previous evolution. Large busty women like forms also being associated with fertility as an example. And if that's too on the nose for you, look back at the monstrosity that literally has hearts drawn on it. I rest my case!

Re: Soapbox: NSO Isn't Game Pass, But Nintendo Is Learning The Benefits Of Subscription Models

DevinRex

Nintendo does seem to be dragged into these subscription models, kicking and screaming, thanks to Microsoft. It's a good direction to take, but it's apparent that it's still extremely early. The value of NSO in comparison to Game Pass is abysmal, and downright laughable. Let's see if they ramp up giving us actual value in a few years. $30 for some ancient retro games, one DLC for a current game, and one for an 8 year old game, is still not worth the price for NSO.

Re: Feature: Which New Hisuian Pokémon Are Viable For Competitive Play?

DevinRex

@mr-duster Three was fine. There's no point in having 4. It's like having 3 legendary dogs, then suddenly, out of the blue, a 4th legendary dog is introduced. I missed when it was always a trio of legendaries back then. Now they throw in whatever random number they want and rehash old ideas. Personally I'm not a fan. Could've used that energy making a Jynx evolution, as it was something people actually wanted and the game needed. No one needs another genie.

Re: Are Complaints About Pokémon Legends: Arceus' Graphics Fair? Digital Foundry Digs In

DevinRex

I've been calling out the graphics since it's announcement. Though of course expecting it not to be successful simply because it looks like it's being produced through a liquify filter in Photoshop doesn't mean that it wouldn't be a top selling game.

Still people have a right to harp on the graphics. And with a company as big as Gamefreak, they have all the resources to do so. I'm just tired of how all these great Nintendo games perform so poorly on the system (aside from maybe the games made from the main Mario studios)

Re: Nintendo Minute's Kit And Krysta Say Goodbye In Their "Final Episode"

DevinRex

Good on Krysta doing bigger and better things. Kit is insufferable and I don't blame her for finally wanting to be done with him. Guy's got a punchable face.

In all good riddance. Never liked their Nintendo Minutes. It was painfully obvious that they had no chemistry with each other as people and we're only in it for the paycheck.

Re: Random: A Lovely Easter Egg From Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Returns In The New Remakes

DevinRex

@Snatcher I can see your point. All things considered, I personally agree with you in that BDSP looks a lot more polished than say, SWSH. I think it helped that they already had a template to work from with the originals. Still I'm a little salty that there's no Pokemon Platinum version. That was my favorite of the three versions and me being the sucker I am for nostalgia, will probably be first in line to buy it if it turns out to be a DLC. Mainly for the Battle Frontier... God I miss the Battle Frontier.

Re: Random: A Lovely Easter Egg From Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Returns In The New Remakes

DevinRex

@KateGray With all due respect Kate, a CEO who is focused on making profit over quality, ham-fisting microtransactions and cheap gambling tactics to children, butchering the most successful franchise ever made, alienating the Pokemon fans have grown up with for a quick buck, and being so out of touch with his community that he has no idea what the community wants anymore, greenlighting the laziest development tactics and making the most trivial excuses that even an indie dev would scoff at (Dexit anyone?) When they have the resources of a billion dollar AAA studio, gets no sympathy from me.

Retiring on your birthday isn't a bad thing either. And while sure, I apologize if I come across as rude there, it doesn't detract from the fact that I feel that he's out of touch, and I'm tired of his company's incompetence on each new release. As a customer, buying almost every new mainline Pokemon game that comes out with my own money, and now the DLCs, I don't see it as a bad thing to be critical either, to be honest.

Consuming product and getting excited for next product was never a corporate mindset I can tolerate with em, which I should reiterate, has nothing to do with his character or date of birth. This is how I've felt for a long time, and I'm tired of paying $60 for lackluster pokemon experiences, reused animations since the 3Ds games, and being nickle-and-dimed for features already existed for free in past games (Pokemon Home, I'm looking at you...) It's not about Masuda as a person, but as a CEO... I feel it's time for new leadership.

All this said, and despite my little rant about my displeasure with the guy, I do wish him the best of Birthdays and hope he lives long and prospers.

Re: Random: A Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Multiplayer Mod Is Now In Development

DevinRex

@VoidofLight The issue isn't that it can be done or not. The issue is that Nintendo Life has a tendacy to "show" you these mods, yet refuses to show articles that teach you how to play them (even through more "legal" methods). It's weird and annoying, since the fact that such tutorials and methods don't exist on the site, proves that those methods aren't all that "legal" by their own standards. The censorship comes off as hypocritical, like telling you that alcohol is illegal, but advertising the latest brews and fine wines and asking which one you'd hope to taste test every week.
