Re: Valve's Steam Deck Might Be The Closest We'll Get To A Switch Pro In 2021

DevinRex

@scannerdarkly7 Actually yeah, when you think about it, the Wii U was Nintendo trying to continue to capitalize on the Wii's success (for better or worse). I personally loved my Wii U, but it was obvious that their pandering hard to casuals bit them in the butt in the end when it alienated the hardcore Nintendo fan. They learned the hard way that casuals don't care about nostalgia, just what's trendy, familiar and easy to use, which could be why most thought of the Wii U as just an add on to the Wii. Their atrocious kid-centric marketing didn't help them either.

Now I believe we're seeing it again with the OLED. It's obviously just to appeal to new users or casuals who don't care about specs or performance. Just a fancy screen. They're getting sloppy and lazy. And I agree with you. I hope the Steam Deck sells like hotcakes. Its one of the few consoles that may actually be stiff competition for them. The steam library is massive, and getting to play it on the go is a huge incentive. The better they do, the more likely chance that Nintendo would respond with a Switch Pro with a decent upgrade in specs... Something we all actually wanted.

@scannerdarkly7 Well, what can I say? Nostalgia sells. People are blinded by past positive experiences and Nintendo knows this. So they will try to milk that nostalgia cow for as long as possible. It makes sense from a corporate standpoint. People keep buying stuff that reminds them of the "good ol' days", Nintendo will keep selling it at a premium.

Re: Yep, Tantalus Was Also The Developer Of The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

DevinRex

@blindsquarel I have played and completed both, along with every Zelda game to date on console, from the NES to the Switch. However, at this point it's apparent that you have not... And for some reason, choose to stay being too ignorant (or stupid), to realize that BOTW uses elements from almost every previous Zelda game in one way or another (including OOT & MM).

I couldn't care less if you think I've played the games or not, and quite frankly, you've given me no reason to consider what you care about in general. I gave examples and proven that OOT / MM elements exist in the game. You have literally no rebuttal other that "HaVe U PlAyEd ThE gAEm?" Which tells me that you have nothing else to add to the discussion. Thus, you are free to ignore facts when given, but I'm afraid that I find that this conversation is pointless to continue with you and will end it here. Have a good one.

Re: Yep, Tantalus Was Also The Developer Of The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

DevinRex

@blindsquarel "not the same as being another game"

The hell you on about? The game includes literally elements from past games. Z targeting was introduced in OOT. The temple of time is literally a reference to OOT and MM. Those aren't just Easter eggs. Those are game mechanics and part of the game's story. Stop moving the goal posts to fit your narrative. BOTW uses elements from tons of previous games, OOT/MM included, and your crying about being proven wrong doesn't change that.

Re: Yep, Tantalus Was Also The Developer Of The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

DevinRex

@blindsquarel "Are nothing like BOTW"
Objectively False:
1. The temple of time ruins
2. The great fairy fountain theme taken straight from OOT
3. Z-Targetting
4. The titular mask from MM being obtainable in DLC

Are all things based on OOT/MM that are found in the game. In fact BOTW doesn't only reference those games. It pays homage to almost all of them.

@gaga64 Seconded on the expanded toolset. We kind of get our toolset via the shekiah slate as various apps, but I miss going in a dungeon and earning a secret ancient weapon or tool that may help me on my quest. They can even make them break and reload like the master sword if they want to maintain that "everything breaks" mechanic they seem so obsessed with. Particularly for me, I just want a ball and chain again. I've had countless hours of fun just being able to slug that thing at baddies with it in twilight princess.

Re: Yep, Tantalus Was Also The Developer Of The Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

@Mr_Humpf Well spoken. 100% Agree.
BOTW was revolutionary in how it approached open world action RPG games. Its by far my favorite Zelda game of the franchise simply by the "do whatever you want" aspect. Enemies and characters are so well designed as well, making encounters more realistic and lived in within the world.

One criticism I have and hope is addressed in BOTW2 are repeat events (think Yiga clan overworld encounters). After a while it was way too easy for me to just assume a human character to 9/10 times be an undercover assassin. Would be nice if they simply had things like missions that involve them doing more than just "kill on sight". Have them hold other people hostage and give us rescue missions or opportunities to end conflicts diplomatically, potentially allowing clan members to defect and join our side, etc. I dunno... They seemed really one-dimensional for such a cool enemy idea.

Also personally would like more housing options. Buy a house in one village, rent a condominium in another and sort out conflicts with the tenants who live there (or end up becoming the landlord) live in a ranch and help farm the land with the residents, etc.

Also Nintendo, please let us do more underwater exploration. Diving to find clams or rare minerals to make better cooking ingredients, maybe opening up side quests with Zora's, etc. Just another few ways to make the world more lived-in.

Re: Random: Fan Project Is Making Super Mario Galaxy DS A Reality

DevinRex

Impressive, but I really don't get why people make these sort of Mods. Nintendo is well known for shutting down fan projects like this. It's just another "ripped IP" in their eyes that will eventually result in this project getting shut down within the next 2-3 years.
Stop. Using. Nintendo. IP. It never ends well.

Re: There's A Surprise New LEGO Game Coming To Switch Next Month

DevinRex

I feel like this game is just a sub-par Captain Toad-like, banking on the LEGO name, and trying to capitalize on the brand. Which I suppose is fine if you are that into LEGOs, but for the rest of us, I think you're money is way better spent on just getting Captain Toad if you're looking for these sort of isometric puzzle games (and in my opinion, it's a much prettier game as well, with lots more content)

Re: SEGA To Reveal 'Projects' For Sonic's 30th Anniversary This Week

DevinRex

@Ghost_of_Hasashi Even so, I have a hell of a lot more confidence in Whitehead's attempt at a 3d game than anything the Sega team can create.
They've set the bar so low already with past 3d sonic games. The only way is up at this point.

Only exception is Sonic Colors. Game was a masterpiece. I'd have them make a new 3d sonic game any day. Apparently that group of folks were the cream of the crop at SEGA, and it showed.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Worth Buying A Nintendo Wii U In 2021?

DevinRex

@Dirty0814 Now type that again without sounding like a butthurt Nintendo fanboy

You can get triggered all you want and call everyone you don't agree with a "pc fanboy" about the facts, but they don't care about your feelings.

I own a 3080. There is literally no reason for me to get a Wii U. When I switched to the Switch, the faster loading times, the portability, and the fact that all of the games are being ported over leaves me no reason to continue owning one outside of literally homebrew. And even then, I can play all of those games on my PC at 4k 60. The "delay" in the controls has nothing to do with emulators. Get a better PC. I have perfect 1:1 with both my pro controller and with 3rd parties. That sounds like a "you" problem kid.

"I have a gaming pc and never play it cuz there's no games to play on it"

You can play just about every Wii U game (and literally every other generation of console games before it) on PC, along with games on Steam, Xbox Gamepass, and even some PlayStation exclusives. Got to be the most idiotic comment I've read on this site in a long time.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Worth Buying A Nintendo Wii U In 2021?

DevinRex

@Dirty0814 Emulated roms aren't "crap ports". They're quite literally the exact files from the game itself.

99% of games you would get on Wii U you can get on PC, and most of those games also play a ton better with a modern graphics card. There's literally no reason to buy a Wii U at this point outside of just the novelty of playing on a second very low res 480p screen.

Re: Talking Point: Is It Worth Buying A Nintendo Wii U In 2021?

DevinRex

General rule in journalism. If you have to lead an article with a question, the answer is almost always "No."
99% of games have been ported over to the Switch, and the ones that can't could just be emulated on PC. Unless it's for the novelty, or just to homebrew, there's no reason to buy a Wii U at this point.

And I say this as a proud Wii U owner.
