A little while ago there was the exciting announcement in Japan that Shin Megami Tensei V is coming to the Nintendo Switch, with the hybrid being the only confirmed platform to date. It's a franchise that's enjoyed a rich history on Nintendo portables, in particular, so it's undoubtedly a good fit.
Now Atlas has confirmed that it will indeed be coming to the West on Switch. This was expected, but official confirmation along with a localised version of the trailer is very welcome.
Set in modern Tokyo, players will face a new onslaught of demons in the latest from the highly-acclaimed series.
It may be a while before substantial details arrive, but it's good to see that Atlas is eager to promote this one's Western release.
Are you excited to see this franchise continue on Nintendo hardware?

Great!!
We all knew it was coming but it's always good to have conformation.
I’ve never tried these. They don’t seem like my thing. Actually, I’m not sure I’ve ever played an Atlus game at all...
Now to wait.
RPG? Action?
Seems like I've already seen a Japanese version of this trailer a few months ago.
Really looking forward to this one. Definitely a major reason to pick up a Switch for me, if it turns out to be good (and I like pretty much all non-Persona SMT games).
Heehee Atlas. x3
Definitely will be getting this. Love Atlus games
this will be the best Shin Megami Tensei yet!
I tried the DS version but I couldn't stick to it. This looks good though, might try it.
Although I rather see Persona 5 coming to the Switch..
Nice to see early interest in Western promotion. Perhaps, dare I say, we'll even get a simultaneous worldwide launch of the game?
This is the Switch game I'm most excited about. Far and away. I'm looking forward to other stuff, but I have come to truly love this franchise.
Well I only have to play Devil Survivor Overclocked, Devil Survivor 2 Overclocked, Persona 4 Golden, SMT IV, SMT IV Apocalypse and Persona 5 and I'll be all set.
I think.
what's our best guess for a western release date? mid-late 2019?
Atlus is and still the best publisher and developer of all time besting even Square Enix. Though Dragon Quest XI and the Mana Collection were already out in Japan, Square Enix says nothing about a western release but Shin Megami Tensei V isn't even out yet and Atlus just jump the gun. Yes it's coming to the rest of the world when the game's finish. You rock Atlus!
YES YES YES awesome news!
Thankfully in this day and age and with this particular franchise, a localisation never seemed to be in any serious doubt. It's good to have confirmation though, as this is definitely one of my most anticipated game right now - not only on the Switch neither btw.
Too bad that we didn't get any inside into the release window.
glances at switch backlog The wait for this game is going to kill me...what shall I do while I die waiting?
Seriously though I'm still shrieking in excitement over this game (....still have yet to finish IV or IV:A).
@Ryu_Niiyama If you still have a Wii U, you can play Atlus other masterpiece (Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE) until this came out or try Persona 5 until then.
@retro_player_22
Talk about a controversial opinion
@Ralek85
I agree that there SHOULD be no doubt, but considering how companies like Capcom and Squeenix have been treating the west lately, I honestly can't say localizations are a guarantee these days. Look at MHXX, or the countless DQ games for 3DS that never left Japan or were released years after the initial release.
I'm so happy that they confirmed it so soon. I hope maybe this means a worldwide release
The Titan Atlas is localizing this while holding up the sky! Incredible! (I'm sorry) Anyways, I have been really excited for this game. I love Atlus games and I've tried about every SMT spin off except for DemiKids. HYPE! (In the mean time I've got to finish Persona 5 and SMT III)
@TheGameSquid I agree, but that's why I specifically referred to this particular franchise, SMT
Still, I feel as far as localisation at large goes, we are actually in a pretty good spot these days. Sure, not everything makes it west, not every localisation is an ace job, sometimes the communication accompanying all this is poor and obviously on occasion the wait can seem ridiculously long, but I for one would never expect for everything to make it west or for the whole process (which can be complicated like at times due to difference in language, culture but also because of legal roadblocks like music rights) to be flawless at every turn.
Most games from Japan I really want to play these days, I can actually play at some point, and most of the time the wait is a matter of months and not years. All of which amounts to a what I think starts to feel more and more like a truly globalized market. It's not quite there yet though ... no doubt about that.
@retro_player_22 I think you missed the joke in my post.
However I always recommend #FE to others.
@bluedogrulez hardcore rpg. It typically takes 100 hours to finish on of these and that’s a minimum.
this is my main reason to get a switch, if smt left nintendo consoles I'd die inside.
2018 Will be the Switches year
2017 was just a test!
i thought that was clear from the beginning...they showed it at the january presentation which was broadcasted worldwid
One of my two most anticipated upcoming titles for the system (the other one being Fire Emblem).
Sucks that I'll have to play it in 100% portable mode to make sure my kids don't accidentally see a few specific demons.
I never had any doubt that this would come to the west, but always nice to hear confirmation. Now we wait...
Yeah! So awesome for confirmation!
I'm...I'm just not ready for 2018 yet. 2017 needs another 2 months at least
Amazing!... but does not look like they very far.
Hallelujah! Looks like there are massive reasons to own a Switch beyond Nintendo first-party stuff. Must admit, back in March, seeing SMT on the future Switch software line-up was one of the biggest factors in me making the jump. Can't hardly wait.
@FX102A You forgot Strange Journey. Unless you've played that one already!

Did I mention this is my reason for wanting to get an NS? Yep, not BOTW (already have it on Wii U), not SMO (not as enthused by it as many others are)... SMT V. This is the one. I wouldn't anticipate this releasing outside Japan until early 2019. That should give enough time for an upgraded/updated NS SKU to be on the way. I will wait for that.
@TheGameSquid that’s the point. It wasn’t assumed it would be released in the West but it wasn’t confirmed.
How about a new instalment in the now-abandoned Trauma Centre series?
I want to feel them organs via HD rumble.
I love Shin Megami Tensei games, so it'll skip to the front of my line lol. Now do everyone a favor and port Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE to the Switch, please!
@GrailUK I’ll take another six months. Friday is going to be painful enough. “Xenoblade is out...did you finish Mario?” Um no I’m still wandering around in Zelda. Slow down Nintendo save some games for 2020.
@Ryu_Niiyama They nailed the play anywhere / anytime concept with Switch. The Switch 2 needs to be 2 Switches strapped together so you can play 2 games at once lol!
SMT game not in first person? Means I'll likely love it. I eat these up.
Such great news. We knew it anyway, but seeing them not only officially state it, but actually provide a Western trailer tells me that not only are they localizing it but that it probably won't be very delayed behind Japan, and they're developing it with localization priority as part of development rather than a post-process.
@Ryu_Niiyama Your backlog is SLIGHTLY worse than mine. Only slightly, though.
@NEStalgia as I take a break with a thermalpad strapped to my lower back as I move out of a 3bedroom house by myself (did I mention my landlord is shady? Yay unplanned moves while still new to a state! And i have a cold. Something hates me. ) I am starting to wonder why i have so many games. If i didn’t have my game and book collections I could have been done in like four hours. Ah well. The things that make life happy I suppose. I have SNES games I want to beat...doesn’t that bury your backlog?
@Ryu_Niiyama LOL it's so true. I have to clear out a room and I realized that 50% of it is games and accessories....a lot of games and accessories.... I'm starting to regret that HRAP right about now (which is now under my Farpoint with PS Aim bundle..... ) But it's the STACKS of 3DS games atop crates of Wii & PS3 & X360 games that are killing me.
Almost makes me wish for digital. Almost.
I still have boxes of NES & SNES games.....sadly they're in an attic and I fear they may have had water/animal damage from 15+ years ago and I've been terrified to ever actually check on them as a result.....
Off topic but I realized I forgot to reply to the other thread: I tested PSVR with one eye closed and it indeed looks "normal" with one eye, and maintains proper paralax. I.E. you would see it the same as you see the real world. Loses something without 3D, but so does Earth, so you at least get motion tracking and a real world sense of depth by parallax. So it should be the same "virtual (your normal) reality" from your perspective as it is for anyone seeing stereo. May not help with the "too close for comfort" issues though. But if you're ever curious, I'd still recommend giving it a try....you'll still get something from the experience. Unless you get motion sickness from it (I don't, I'm good for hours (even if I don't trust my eyes to it for hours), but some people get severe headaches from 3DS, so who knows.)
