@Eric258 The message being clear is probably one of the biggest differences between the Switch and the WiiU.
I think I remember the one at Colonnades. There used to be one at Marion as well. I had the same experience though. EB was always better value, and I felt the staff knew what they were doing a bit more, although merchandise and collectables were better at GAME.
Whilst I have not really seen GAME's presence in Adelaide for a couple of years it does not hurt to hear companies having confidence in a system they want to sell. It is in their best interest really. From what most people are saying, and from the experience that this CEO explained (the magic of something like Zelda BotW being portable), the Switch could very well be something special. I look forward to its future.
Comparing the Switch's current units sold to the WiiU's rate is interesting. The WiiU was coming off of the cultural hit of the Wii, and the Switch is basically coming from an environment that is the complete opposite, yet, it is selling, arguably, at a much healthier rate than the WiiU considering the time of year. With Mario coming in the holidays the Switch should do great then, but I think Nintendo is going to have to not hold anything back during E3 to really keep the ball rolling and get people excited for the consoles future (crosses fingers for a new Metroid).
I've never played this game before but I reckon it would work really nicely on the Switch. Local multiplayer anywhere with something like would be awesome.
@Ogbert I didn't play the Test Fire, but I got 1-2 Switch yesterday, and I have to say I was impressed by how well the JoyCon could convey balls rolling around in a box. I'm not 100% sure how HD Rumble will be utilised in future games, but if it can create realistic-isn sensations like that I'm pretty excited.
@JasmineDragon That is a fair point, and I understand where you are coming from having self played BotW as much as I could since release, but I just do not really see Sligeach as a total anti-Switch poster. Yes he is overly critical and is very fond of the WiiU in comparison, but there are a lot worse people on the internet, and these forums, who attack the Switch. Just look at some of his comments on the sales charts for this week, he is happy that Nintendo is doing well.
Sorry if it came across as me defending anti-Switch posters, I do not feel that way, I was just trying to say that I feel that Sligeach seems to take an unfair amount of flack for what he says. I feel the same way you do
Edit:
@OzHuski It's even better than that. From what I have been able to do you don't have to even return the Switch unit. I went in with my receipt to EB Games (Australia) and they swapped over the JoyCon without needing to replace the whole unit.
@mozie @ballistic90 I really don't understand the amount of complaining people do about @SLIGEACH_EIRE. I mean, sure, he may be a little negative about things, in some cases understandably, but it really isn't that hard to skim over and look at other peoples comments and engage with them if it is such a bother. Especially in this case, he's just poking fun at Nintendo being a bit more dismissive of the issue than he may have wanted. There's no harm done really.
This is understandable, especially considering its 2018 release date. What I am considering now is whether I should put some money towards this in the slackerbacker thingy and get a physical copy for Switch that way.
@PanurgeJr That's true. But even then, exclusives are becoming less of a reason since Microsofts can be bought for PC, I think, and you can get PS3 games on there now as well, which is setting an interesting precedent for the future. It'll be interesting to see how those two manage to survive with the direction they're taking.
I think the argument that the Scorpio is going to have any great impact on any system is probably misguided. It's looking to be, basically, a pointlessly powerful console that is outclassed by PC and can't have any of its own personal exclusives for a premium price. The Switch will do fine during the holidays against it, and if anything it's the Scorpio that'll be in trouble as it doesn't really offer anything over the other systems, including the current Xbox.
A pretty optimistic claim, but if Nintendo plays their cards right it could very well get up there. I imagine a Switch Pokemon game would help it get there. By no means unreasonable, but, I think, it's too soon to say how well the Switch will do in the long run.
They've already shown it can work as home console/handheld with 3 Ultimate, and I remember having a blast with that. I'm looking forward to a Switch Monster Hunter some time in the future.
@Dm9982 That sounds about right, although I think they may wait until next year to talk about it, unless they plan to have it ready for the holiday season. The advantage of a more powerful dock would appeal to current Switch owners, but I don't think it would be well received to mention a more powerful version of the dock so soon.
@OzHuski Using upgraded docks to boost the Switch's power is something that would be much more consumer friendly for Nintendo. You get to keep your current hardware and just buy, what is essentially, a better adapter. That's definitely the way they should go.
Batman I'm not too excited about, it's been everywhere already. The new Guardians of the Galaxy, especially if it is at the same time as the other consoles/PC, would be awesome and something I think I'd probably get behind.
@Yasume I guess I can just look beyond that and consider the value of enjoying the game anywhere, plus battle mode, to be worth getting it on the Switch. But, to each their own, $60 for something you already have a version of is definitely a reason to not get it if you don't consider it value
I got this on WiiU, but I'm absolutely double dipping. Battle mode is something that I've always enjoyed with friends, especially on the N64. I'm curious to see what that Phiranha Plant mode was, it looked like some sort of Pac-Man-esque game which seems like fun
@Exy Maybe, but Nintendo have done some strange things with their adapters and cables in the past. Look at the GameCube component cable. The reason that's priced at something ridiculous ($300 or something) is because no ones been able to reverse engineer the tech in the adapter. It is possible the Switch dock may present the same problem.
Both versions are fantastic and easily enjoyable games. The frame drops aren't that bad, and when they do happen it's only momentarily. I'm more than happy exploring this huge, and beautiful, game.
@KiWiiU_Freek Yeah that seems to be the situation. The one thing about Australia at least (looking past the ridiculous mark-ups) is that you can get pre-orders on these sorts of things pretty reliably.
From what I've seen (also in Australia) EB Games seems to have sold out their stock completely of the neon Switch, but still have some grey versions left. It seems odd to me, the neon version just doesn't sit quite right (why couldn't it be the same colour on both sides!).
@dronesplitter The fact that they labelled it as a "new" hard mode makes me question what they mean by that. It doesn't sound like it is simply dealing up the enemy difficulty or anything. I suppose it could be that, but it sounds like it'll be something other than a typical hard mode.
I'm all for having a successor to the 3DS, but they should use the Switch to fill that. It doesn't make sense to release a new console alongside the Switch when they can just sell Switch handhelds without the dock.
Considering the other information all pertains to the 3DS version I would be surprised to see a Switch version announced. I think that the effort it would take to get it on the Switch could be much better spent on either a new Fire Emblem game for the Switch, or just some more new games in general
The wait is SO much better now that we know where the end goal is. The 12th of January can't come soon enough, but knowing that that is when it is coming is something really to look forward to.
Now I just need to get my hype-erdrive working again...
For those of you who can't download it yet it's probably due to the fact that in Europe and Australia it's already the 18th. Unfortunately you guys will have to wait a bit longer until then
Absolutely a video that should be watched. What Iwata did for the video game industry is immeasurable, especially if you are a Nintendo gamer. Hopefully we will be able to see his vision in the future with Nintendo's plans that he set in motion, such as the NX.
@Al_Godoy The use of the Gamepad in Hyrule Warriors was excellent I thought. Playing multiplayer where two players get their own screen is amazing, it simulates playing with two consoles and moves past the problem split screen can cause by cluttering the TV.
@MarcelRguez Sorry about taking a while to reply. http://gaminrealm.com/2013/07/12/ubisoft-lying-about-zombiu-performance/ Ubisoft were expecting ZombieU to do something that Nintendo IP at the time weren't really pulling off. 500K units sold with an install base of 3.5mil WiiUs is pretty awesome, it just wasn't what they were getting on PS3 and XBOX360 at the time because they had huge install bases. From this point they delayed Rayman Legends, hurting sales by sending multiplatform and alienating WiiU users, and then there was the gimped versions of Watch_Dogs that followed. I may be extrapolating more than I should be from this, but Ubisoft were expecting too much from the position of the WiiU, and they damaged the goodwill they had forged with Nintendo gamers at the start of the WiiUs lifecycle.
@MarcelRguez They aren't the main problem, but the fact that they were very positive about the WiIU then decided to delay and gimp games because ZombieU didn't sell hugely well, even though it had a huge attach rate, doesn't really inspire confidence for their support for the NX.
Two of the most amazing sources in recent years I reckon. Guardians is a LOT of fun, and Gravity Falls had a unique charm that was enjoyable on its surface, but also had a huge amount of depth with its easter eggs and everything else. I am 100% on board with this!
@Anti-Matter He means that Nintendo don't directly profit from the game a huge amount. The game was a venture by Niantic and the Pokemon Company, so they're the major winners in this situation, Nintendo will be making some money, but they certainly won't be seeing most of the profit this game is turning over.
It was pretty nuts here in Australia when it was first announced. All the stores had it up for preorder and a couple of days later it was sold out nation wide
@rjejr I feel that with the popularity of Pokemon Go some people who haven't been a part of the franchise in recent years may attempt to pick up the latest games of Sun and Moon, which could lead to an increase in 2/3DS sales.
@aaronsullivan If you want to start with the originals, but don't like the cramped original hardware, Red, Blue, and Yellow are all on the 3DS eShop for a pretty decent price
I get people are frustrated by Nintendo's use of Metroid, but they were using their IP without permission. The excuse that they were giving the game away for free doesn't really make it right, especially since a free version of Metroid 2 is going to take away from Nintendo tying to sell their original version of the game that they have the rights to. I can appreciate the time, care, and effort put into this, but in the end it has the ability to impact negatively on Nintendo owned Metroid games.
@Folkloner I guess that's the major problem with it, the fact that it's probably adding another million or so users to the servers, which as we know are struggling with actual players already.
