Re: Cemu Wii U Emulator Version 1.7.5 Shows Daunting Progress With Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Danpal65

@C-Threep Fair point too, and I certainly don't disagree with you on emulators technically being legal . Plus without emulators we wouldn't have the Virtual Console, or, the NES Mini (please don't attack me for bringing it up).
The whole emulation area is a bit of a grey zone honestly. Like that Apple emulator thing you used as an example, it seems like the moral responsibility of ripping you own copy of the game instead of downloading someone else's copy seems to end up with the user.

Re: Cemu Wii U Emulator Version 1.7.5 Shows Daunting Progress With Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Danpal65

This is one of the most disappointing things in the gaming community. These guys are making money off of Breath of the Wild and selling it to people so they do not buy a Switch or WiiU, surely Nintendo has a right to have them taken down.
I understand the argument of emulation for preservation, but that does not hold up when a game is brand new and available for retail pretty much anywhere right now.

Re: Poll: How Do You Play the Nintendo Switch - As A Portable, Home Console or Hybrid?

Danpal65

@nhSnork I agree. Nintendo's battery estimates seem to actually be on the low end of what the console can do, both in charging and usage, which is a pleasant surprise. I feel like 3-4 hours of portable gameplay is probably within the golden range of play time though. I can't really imagine playing a game for more than that, especially in handheld mode, my wrists would get very sore.

Re: Poll: How Do You Play the Nintendo Switch - As A Portable, Home Console or Hybrid?

Danpal65

@PlywoodStick It'll be interesting to see how much use the Switch actually gets in public. In a way, I think it'll depend on where in public you are. From my experience down here in Australia not too many people had their 3DS out and about unless they are at a convention, party, or something like that, although I've seen a few around the university campus. So far its been more or less the same story with the Switch. Once there's more out in the wild though we may really get a better idea of what its going to shape up as.

Re: Poll: How Do You Play the Nintendo Switch - As A Portable, Home Console or Hybrid?

Danpal65

Its interesting seeing how everyone is using their Switch slightly differently, but what's even more interesting, I think, is the fact that most of the people here are using it as a handheld/portable.

Myself, the Switch spends a lot of time in its dock, all comfy and ready to play on the TV, but I am happy to take it around the house when watching TV or to play Mario Kart in bed for a few hours. The battery life is surprisingly good when portable and playing online. 2 hours of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, minimum brightness and headphones lasted over two hours before reaching 50%.

Re: Surprise, Nintendo Isn't Hosting An E3 Press Conference This Year

Danpal65

I for one welcome our Digital Event overlords. They allow for a more comfortable and polished event that tells use everything that a live press event would, but allows for more fun skits and the use of animation, etc. Without the Digital Event we would never have had the classic moment of Reggie burning a man alive for the mear mention of Mother 3.

Re: Evergreen Nintendo Switch Titles Stay in UK Charts as Yooka-Laylee Makes a Mark

Danpal65

Looking forward to it when it comes to Switch, but it's great to see Yooka Laylee doing well. Breath of the Wild sure has legs.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I remember the GameCube version becoming pretty elusive. It's kinda funny though, I reckon there's at least 8 or 9 copies of BotW on WiiU in most stores here in Australia. Been kinda tempted to pick one up purely for collectibility.

Re: The Famicom Classic Edition Has Now Also Been Discontinued

Danpal65

This thing was meant as a special collectors edition type thing. I think it is a little ridiculous that people are getting so upset about it. Nintendo said it was going to be a special limited item, like collectors editions of their games, so I think it was pretty unrealistic to think these things were going to stay around and be constantly produced.

Yeah, it is a bit disappointing that you can't get your hands on one now if you haven't already, but it's not like this is the only place to get these games. Wii and WiiU virtual console had most (all?) of the games, and I'm sure the Switch will do the same thing in the future.

Re: Payday 2 Announced For Nintendo Switch

Danpal65

I have to say I've never actually played this series before. It does look like Nintendo is getting some 3rd party support though, which is good, with a game that the general gaming community can't label as "kiddie" which is a start. Hope this performs well, although it doesn't look like my cup of tea.

Re: Nintendo Switch Teardown Suggests Production Cost Is Around $260 Per Unit

Danpal65

@SLIGEACH_EIRE It's actually quite interesting to look at the dock's price. Looking at some decent quality USB-C to HDMI adapters they're priced at around $70 here in Australia, which is about $55 USD. The fact that there is a bit of plastic, whatever features to run power into the Switch, some USB ports, and Nintendo branding it isn't completely unreasonable to get to around the $90 mark, although it is still a bit on the high end.

Re: A New Patch Is Live for Lego City Undercover

Danpal65

@Zebetite The file sizes of games are certainly getting ridiculous, especially from the big third-party developers. We've got unlimited downloads where I live, but it's still at 25Mb/s so a 2-3GB download takes something like 3 hours (more or less). This is something I think people should give Nintendo more credit for, their ability to compress and optimise their games is unreal and something other developers really need to be taught. Our PS4 came with a 500MB hard drive and because of the discs having to install on the console (a downside of optical discs) the whole thing was full after something like 5-6 games.

Re: Aonuma Says That Open World Is Here to Stay in Zelda Games

Danpal65

I think the open-world style Zelda could be taken in a variety of different ways, some even encompassing the original Zelda style. You could have a world like BotW, but then have a set story and destinations to reach, but allow for exploration. Just tweak the amount of freedom (but still have a fair amount of it).

I think with the engine they've made for BotW, and the upcoming story expansion at the end of the year, I could see them doing some new stuff in a similar manner to Majora's Mask. Use the same engine, assets, but make a new world/tell a different story.

Re: Round Up: Yooka-Laylee's Scores Are In, And Critics Appear Divided

Danpal65

The critics have given their opinions and that's their job, so good for them, but, reading the views instead of just looking at a number it is clear that this game is exactly what Playtonic set out to create and for that I'm happy. When it comes to Switch we'll see if it addresses any of the technical issues the other consoles are facing, but either way I'm on board.

Re: Nintendo Switch eShop Adds Charts Listing to Show What's Hot in the Download Store

Danpal65

It's interesting comparing the charts between the different regions. Here in Australia it goes Snake Pass, Snipperclips, Breath of the Wild, Fast RMX, Shovel Knight. Overall in the other areas though, Breath of the Wild, 1-2 Switch, and Bomberman R all seem to be charting lower than the eShop exclusives. Seems to be implying that most people are still going physical for the Switch, either due to the conservative amount of storage or because carts are awesome (which is my point of view)

Edit: Meant to add. I think the inclusion of a "Charts" or "Best Sellers" list is a great idea for the eShop, especially due to how it is handling the increasing number of titles available.
