@joey302 You'd have to download the files from Bandcamp and then drag and drop them into the desktop version of iTunes. From there put them onto you iDevice. Unfortunately thats the only way you can get music outside of iTunes onto iDevices.
@GrailUK I agree. In my first post I was trying to say that some people argue that emulation is good for preservation of old games (like before N64 old), which I agree with. Sorry I was not clear, but when it comes to Breath of the Wild there is no excuse, its everywhere and can be bought digitally, there is no need to preserve it, as you said
@gatorboi352 Sorry, I didn't realise I was not allowed to express my distaste of people that take advantage of other people's years of work for their own personal gain without myself having some sort of monetary investment.
@liljmoore That seems like the most likely situation. If it is at e3, it'll probably get a spotlight in the indie developer area of their Digital Event, maybe with some bonus content. Otherwise, a small Direct beforehand, like you said, would also work.
@C-Threep Fair point too, and I certainly don't disagree with you on emulators technically being legal . Plus without emulators we wouldn't have the Virtual Console, or, the NES Mini (please don't attack me for bringing it up).
The whole emulation area is a bit of a grey zone honestly. Like that Apple emulator thing you used as an example, it seems like the moral responsibility of ripping you own copy of the game instead of downloading someone else's copy seems to end up with the user.
@C-Threep That may be the case, but they are using Breath of the Wild, a Nintendo owned IP, to advertise their product, and as mentioned in the article, they are making $34,000 a month because of it. That's a lot of money that they probably would not be getting if Zelda wasn't their mascot.
This is one of the most disappointing things in the gaming community. These guys are making money off of Breath of the Wild and selling it to people so they do not buy a Switch or WiiU, surely Nintendo has a right to have them taken down. I understand the argument of emulation for preservation, but that does not hold up when a game is brand new and available for retail pretty much anywhere right now.
@8itmap_k1d I believe you can fix that in the settings. I can't remember where exactly, but there is a bit that lets the Switch change channels using its HDMI connection. If you turn that off it should fix that problem for you, just means the Switch can't turn your TV on for you if you wake it up.
I think the Switch does something like that when it gets low on battery. It lasts effectively forever in sleep mode (a month from full charge I think?), so if it just puts itself to sleep at low battery it should be able to do what the Vita did (Nintendoes what Sony did to? )
@nhSnork I agree. Nintendo's battery estimates seem to actually be on the low end of what the console can do, both in charging and usage, which is a pleasant surprise. I feel like 3-4 hours of portable gameplay is probably within the golden range of play time though. I can't really imagine playing a game for more than that, especially in handheld mode, my wrists would get very sore.
@PlywoodStick It'll be interesting to see how much use the Switch actually gets in public. In a way, I think it'll depend on where in public you are. From my experience down here in Australia not too many people had their 3DS out and about unless they are at a convention, party, or something like that, although I've seen a few around the university campus. So far its been more or less the same story with the Switch. Once there's more out in the wild though we may really get a better idea of what its going to shape up as.
Its interesting seeing how everyone is using their Switch slightly differently, but what's even more interesting, I think, is the fact that most of the people here are using it as a handheld/portable.
Myself, the Switch spends a lot of time in its dock, all comfy and ready to play on the TV, but I am happy to take it around the house when watching TV or to play Mario Kart in bed for a few hours. The battery life is surprisingly good when portable and playing online. 2 hours of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, minimum brightness and headphones lasted over two hours before reaching 50%.
Nintendo is still master of compression and optimisation it seems. If any of their first party games were made by other developers we'd be seeing files sizes above and beyond 20GB for most of them I'd imagine.
I see these mostly as a little something to tide us over to the actual DLC at the end of the year. I paid the $30 (Australia yay) for the story and dungeon in the last pack, anything is an added bonus, one of which basically being Eventide Island on steroids which is awesome!
Good on them for taking the criticism they have received in their stride and doing what they can to improve their game. I'm looking forward to supporting Platonic in the future when Yooka-Laylee comes to the Switch and hopefully with any titles they produce in the future.
I for one welcome our Digital Event overlords. They allow for a more comfortable and polished event that tells use everything that a live press event would, but allows for more fun skits and the use of animation, etc. Without the Digital Event we would never have had the classic moment of Reggie burning a man alive for the mear mention of Mother 3.
@NEStalgia I have to say, I saw the inspirations from the first Zelda age, but I think this is a very apt description of what BotW is trying to capture. A vast, grand adventure full of danger with some puzzles to solve along the way. Thanks for putting it into words
@JLPick I think you might have that a bit wrong. Twilight Princess was released on the GameCube, but also on the Wii when it launched. The GameCube was at the end of its life when Twilight Princess released. Wind waker was the GameCube's Zelda.
@Yoshi I had forgotten about that. With 4 people locally with 1 Switch and a single copy of the game and up to 8 players with individual Switch and copies of the game, its an awesome portable experience.
As a handheld game there is nothing that could possibly compete with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Portability, awesome graphics, multiplayer with up to 4 people, its on a tier of its own. This is definitely one area that the Switch is going to dominate, but at the same time still have a comfortable place in peoples living rooms.
@ballistic90 Such is life unfortunately and certainly nothing to be embarrassed about. On the plus side though, the games will always be there for when you do get a chance tho play them, even if Zelda is trying to take most of your time
@ballistic90 That might be because the Switch actually has a release schedule (I owned and loved the WiiU, just poking fun at its spotty frequency of releases)
Looking forward to it when it comes to Switch, but it's great to see Yooka Laylee doing well. Breath of the Wild sure has legs.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I remember the GameCube version becoming pretty elusive. It's kinda funny though, I reckon there's at least 8 or 9 copies of BotW on WiiU in most stores here in Australia. Been kinda tempted to pick one up purely for collectibility.
@speedracer216 I really don't understand this mentality. Every other company does ports of their games and people do not clammer for some sort of discount for that just because they had the original. What makes Nintendo so special for offering an upgraded and expanded version of an older game that means they should offer a discount?
This thing was meant as a special collectors edition type thing. I think it is a little ridiculous that people are getting so upset about it. Nintendo said it was going to be a special limited item, like collectors editions of their games, so I think it was pretty unrealistic to think these things were going to stay around and be constantly produced.
Yeah, it is a bit disappointing that you can't get your hands on one now if you haven't already, but it's not like this is the only place to get these games. Wii and WiiU virtual console had most (all?) of the games, and I'm sure the Switch will do the same thing in the future.
I have to say I've never actually played this series before. It does look like Nintendo is getting some 3rd party support though, which is good, with a game that the general gaming community can't label as "kiddie" which is a start. Hope this performs well, although it doesn't look like my cup of tea.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE It's actually quite interesting to look at the dock's price. Looking at some decent quality USB-C to HDMI adapters they're priced at around $70 here in Australia, which is about $55 USD. The fact that there is a bit of plastic, whatever features to run power into the Switch, some USB ports, and Nintendo branding it isn't completely unreasonable to get to around the $90 mark, although it is still a bit on the high end.
@Zebetite The file sizes of games are certainly getting ridiculous, especially from the big third-party developers. We've got unlimited downloads where I live, but it's still at 25Mb/s so a 2-3GB download takes something like 3 hours (more or less). This is something I think people should give Nintendo more credit for, their ability to compress and optimise their games is unreal and something other developers really need to be taught. Our PS4 came with a 500MB hard drive and because of the discs having to install on the console (a downside of optical discs) the whole thing was full after something like 5-6 games.
I think the open-world style Zelda could be taken in a variety of different ways, some even encompassing the original Zelda style. You could have a world like BotW, but then have a set story and destinations to reach, but allow for exploration. Just tweak the amount of freedom (but still have a fair amount of it).
I think with the engine they've made for BotW, and the upcoming story expansion at the end of the year, I could see them doing some new stuff in a similar manner to Majora's Mask. Use the same engine, assets, but make a new world/tell a different story.
The critics have given their opinions and that's their job, so good for them, but, reading the views instead of just looking at a number it is clear that this game is exactly what Playtonic set out to create and for that I'm happy. When it comes to Switch we'll see if it addresses any of the technical issues the other consoles are facing, but either way I'm on board.
The PC meta critic score is higher than PS4 and Xbox One, so maybe the technical issues are partially holding back. A 73 is good enough for me and I'll be picking it up when physical comes to Switch, especially since that port is being done by Playtonic, unlike the PS4 and Xbox One.
It's interesting comparing the charts between the different regions. Here in Australia it goes Snake Pass, Snipperclips, Breath of the Wild, Fast RMX, Shovel Knight. Overall in the other areas though, Breath of the Wild, 1-2 Switch, and Bomberman R all seem to be charting lower than the eShop exclusives. Seems to be implying that most people are still going physical for the Switch, either due to the conservative amount of storage or because carts are awesome (which is my point of view)
Edit: Meant to add. I think the inclusion of a "Charts" or "Best Sellers" list is a great idea for the eShop, especially due to how it is handling the increasing number of titles available.
@Not_Soos I hope this isn't too spoiler-y for that shrine, but you can just go there on the night of the blood moon, you don't have to be there when it happens
@SLIGEACH_EIRE That card Is probably as old as I am In Australia EB is pretty much the main game sore, I think it's owned by GameStop, our only other real alternative is places like JBHIFI, which is a general electronics store.
