Are the "Additional functions" written properly? Because I'm not sure what they're trying to say. Does anyone know what it does specifically? Updates like these really enjoy being as vague as humanly possible. I don't think I've encountered any real problems in the game. Besides perhaps the localisation making up a language for the Elves which makes some things harder to follow. Seriously unnecessary. But I'd like being able to use more of my characters, it's a shame to leave some out. And since there's already a 'Stage Convo' feature that lists which characters can chat in the overworld, it'd be cool if the list included characters that have dialogue during battle with bosses. I'm hoping the function improvement thing means that Virginia equipping two shields means she gets the added defence and/or guard rate/efficiency of both. Overall, I'm enjoying this game tremendously already, so hopefully this update will only add to that enjoyment.
I appreciate his enthusiasm. He's been wanting to direct a Zelda movie for 14 years now, so he might actually be one of the best choices for a Live Action zelda, especially if they use motion capture which seems to be his strong suit. I don't think he directs animated films, and it probably isn't his decision to make, so I'm assuming he'll do his best to make the best film he CAN make. Of course, with it being live action and Hollywood, I do still have my concerns. Zelda and Link's characters especially will need extreme care in order to please fans. Including myself. Like someone else mentioned, Zeltik has a video about this topic and whether or not Wes Ball is a good pick as a Zelda movie director.
@123akis I feel like you and a lot of people commenting have forgotten that Sticker Star, Origami King and maybe Colour Splash all had in-game museums with concept art and stuff of the game. So there is a chance they could do it again, even in TTYD's remake. Not sure if they'd make a new area, a museum, just for that but it could be the role of a new NPC. Either way, I'm not fussed. I'm just saying it's possible. When it comes to remakes, updates graphics and QOL improvements are the standard. Anything else is extra. But doubt anyone would object to free extra content. Having Luigi's side adventure playable would be incredible, even if it's not as long as the main game. And if they remade Wind Waker again, I'd love to see them include those islands they didn't have time to implement the first time around. So yeah, extra content would be nice, but not exactly expected. Oh, but I love it when games have jukeboxes! Those should be a standard going forward!
I got an email about this from Nintendo yesterday and preordered it then. I have to say, I don't think I could ask for better merch of my favourite video game! Felt like I'd been waiting my entire life for this moment, lol.
I've been loving the game so far so I can confidently say this was well deserved. Has anyone else been having issues with the DLC though? I bought the digital Monarch Edition since it came with a digital artbook and 16 Bit music, but I can't seem to access it at the moment. Feels like I'm the only one who bought it too since I haven't seen anyone else talk about it.
@imadeanaccount You should try the demo if you haven't already! The story may seem generic but it's not bad. Unicorn Overlord seems to be character driven. So if you like the characters themselves I think you'd still be interested in what happens.
@IceEarthGuard The Ancient Magus' Bride doesn't have a magic school initially but Chise does end up entering one in the latest season. I've seen it recently myself so I suggest you catch up on it too! The vibe is a slightly different in a school setting but the character development is brilliant, so I highly recommend it.
But yeah, otherwise, some of anime listed by @HeadPirate aren't about magic schools like The Seven Deadly Sins, Fairy Tail, Rising of the Shield Hero etc. It's Isekai anime that's currently flooding the market. So many generic power fantasies with OP MCs surrounded by girls with boring plots about solving everything effortlessly. There are some gems among the genre though.
Interesting how most people agree that Engage's gameplay is better than Three Houses yet a lot still say Three Houses is the better game. Is gameplay not king after all? At least when it comes t Fire Emblem, fans seem to rate the games by story, writing and characters rather than gameplay, lol.
I still haven't started Engage myself, I still have a lot of routes in Three Houses to get through, but I'm working on it. And it is nice to see people appreciating Mika's artstyle. It certainly is something that takes getting used to.
Hopefully they mean using AI for stuff like coding and not art, writing or other creative endeavours. I have to say though, it's almost like they want to sound gross. First NFT and now AI. AI has many uses, but you have to have an extreme lack of self-awareness to use it in this context and expect positive feedback.
@Supaguy Hey now, easy on the Team Asano slander. How exactly does a video game's name have a 'soul' for people to get attached to? Their games have weird names, but they still have more thought put into them than most people give them credit for. Bravely Default, Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy, for example, all have the same number of letters and syllables in both words, for example. Which is why they're formatted as having the first word over the other, but I admit that the logos are a bit bland besides that. I think names like these are better than having AI name your creations anyway.
@Lizuka Yes! Someone else who played Process of Elimination! It's a great detective game with a very lovable cast and brilliant writing. But the Quartering Duke takes the cake! I don't want to spoil anything, but his whole twist Modus Operandi, his reasons for the murders, and especially his understanding of certain types of people. It's just so damn good. Never in my life have I felt so understood. His motives make sense and his speech and lines are great, which just makes Wato's counter-argument even better. The incredible exchange between a murderer who understands and what's to end people's suffering, and a detective that wants people to live no matter how much they have to endure. Honestly, it was so powerful that it broke me out of my own depression. I couldn't have asked for a better villain or resolution. I got Rain Code for Christmas so I intend to start playing it right after Future Redeemed. Hopefully the cast of characters and writing is just as good as Process of Eliminations.
@Ogbert Man, you're so close, yet so far. An object to be 'viewed? It's literally called VIEWtiful Joe. She's literally called Sexy Silvia. She's meant to be viewed. If you can't see Silvia as a character that's meant to be sexy and a cool gunslinging heroine at the same time, I think that's a you problem honestly. Granted, the JP version looks like it's trying to be an upskirt and is clearly provocative, so I understand if that's not to everyone's taste. But a major theme of the games is having a 'beautiful view' of the characters as they do ridiculously cool poses as they beat up bad guys. If it's not for you, that's fine. But to me it's about the same as Bayonetta does her own sexy poses as summons demons and beats up angels and the like. Basically, being ridiculously sexy to the point of being comical and being an object are two different things.
People keep using the word 'upskirt' but I don't think they realise that's just how Silvia's outfit is designed. The dress skirt thing isn't meant to cover her hips. She's not called Sexy Silvia for nothing! Anyways, going with NA this time. It's got one of my fav Viewtiful Joe poses, Silvia looking cool and a decent background. Only thing it's missing a movie/camera reel reference or something.
@HXLXIII I've seen The Dark Prince being called Dragon Quest Monsters 3 online, including in Japan. I think the reason is because the Dragon Quest Monsters Joker games are considered their own games with their own numbers, so you're probably thinking of that game. I said DQM3 because it's the shortest way I can think of.
Damn, this is some comment section. Aonuma's comments about people who want the linear style 3D games back did seem a bit silly and dismissive, but a lot of the comments here are just as bad. People who are childishly unable to accept the very simple fact that Botw and Totk are Zelda games and people that have seemingly forgotten the criticism towards Skyward Sword's linearity. Some people have brought up the Zelda Cycle, and they're right. It's okay to have different preferences, but people should still try to sound more genuine and acknowledge the facts, the past and other people's thoughts. Oh, and the idea that 3D Zelda should be open world and 2D Zelda should be linear? Also terrible. There's no need and no point to confining them to those genres like that. The last 2D Zelda was open world, wasn't it? You could go in any order you want. I think A Link Between Worlds was well received so forcing it to be linear now doesn't make sense. Besides, I personally can't stand 2D Zelda games. The Link's Awakening remake included. Moving on, I think people are focusing too much on the dismissive part of what Aonuma said. No one's reacting to the fact that he and the team listen to fan feedback when making the next game and that's why they made more dungeon-like dungeons in Totk. And personally, I think it was a step in the right direction. Everyone's saying it wasn't like past dungeons, but no one's comparing them to the Divine Beasts in Botw, as if they're afraid to give the Temples proper praise.
About the future of the series though, I personally would like another game like Wind Waker. But I'm not part of the Zelda Cycle and I've loved all the 3D games when they came out, so I don't mind if the next game is open world if that's what the team wants to do. But I do think they should continue working on the formula so that it has the best parts of open-world and linear 3D Zelda. Like some others have mentioned, seeing the flashback cutscenes out of order in Totk was no fun. You can choose when to see most of them, but I myself was spoiled by seeing a major flashback that included major plot points from others ones. It quite flawed and I think everyone agrees that there's a better way to do them, either making it so that they're always in order or doing away with them entirely in favour of cutscenes about the present. Some people have also complained about how long, distracting or aimless exploring a massive world can feel. I concur. In Botw I could simply go anti-clockwise around Hyrule and that felt great. But Totk felt far more aimless. There wasn't an ideal path laid out for you to follow and so deciding where to go and what needed doing before the endgame was and is quite difficult. And the freedom and creativity of an open world is great, but personally I'd like a better sense of direction to give everything more meaning and balance between exploration and story elements. Although people will complain no matter what type of game they make, there's always ways to improve the Zelda formula.
TLDR; Aonuma sounded silly but this comment section is just as silly. Botw & Totk are mainline Zelda games & you should get over it, remember the Zelda cycle, a fusion of open world and linear Zelda's strengths would be ideal.
Some people seem surprised by Aonuma's wording or the apparent lack of willingness to embrace Zelda as a playable character. But it makes sense to me. Most Zelda games are about playing as Link to save Hyrule along with Zelda who usually awakens to her powers at the end, the power needed to seal or destroy an evil being. Link is the star of the show, the chosen hero. Courage itself. You can't have the story without Link because he's your Link to the story. Doubtlessly that's how they see him. Zelda, on the other hand, is the damsel in distress who is also the key to saving the world. Having her separated from Link allows her to move the plot forward in her own way and awaken the power she needs to defeat villains like Ganondorf whilst also allowing Link enough freedom to explore by himself without anyone slowing him down. It's a single player game, after all. We have travelled the sea a bit with Tetra, and we had spirit Zelda in Spirit Tracks. So it's not like we can't ever travel with or control Zelda ever. But when it comes to mainline titles, Link will travel alone for the majority of the game and for good reason. Aonuma can't go giving away major features of upcoming games or make promises this big in an interview on the spot, so it's perfectly reasonable for him to say 'maybe'. It's not out of the question, but it's not too likely either. People should accept that. All that said, playable Zelda does sound fun, if implemented properly. I think it'd make for a good spin-off, whether she's the lead or it's Zelda and Link together. I just don't think Zelda traveling with Link for the entirety of of a mainline game would be ideal.
@twowingedangel Ports? But wasn't DQM3 made for the Switch specifically? I'm really confused by what you're saying because I've already said that sometimes there are issues caused by the Switch's hardware and some by dev teams not having enough time or knowhow. And what indie dev is making a game that's more taxing than Nintendo's own AAA titles? I feel like you didn't really take in what I said and you're trying to argue for something else entirely. I'll admit that if Nintendo had a more powerful console then more games would come to it. I think that's just common sense since games like the latest Street Fighter and Tekken are skipping the Switch. But if you think that anything could make the Switch suffer as much as the Wii U then you're honestly delusional. The Switch is already a major success; far, far outselling the Wii U. Nintendo will be fine even they did wait until 2025 for the Switch 2.
Can't believe people are defending the graphics and performance of this game and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet. There's tons of games on the Switch with bigger worlds and better visuals. Besides the Zelda games there's also the Xenoblade games. The performance and draw range for XC3 is excellent. Yes, the Switch's hardware means that some games like SMTV can't keep up with loading it's own textures. I think that's an example of something actually being the Switch's fault. But you're likely to see performance issues when a game has been rushed and not polished enough, like Pokemon Scarlet/Violet, or when a dev team simply isn't used to making a game for the Switch yet, like this game and even Fire Emblem Three Houses. If you look at some of the environmental textures for Three Houses or around the monastery, you'll find quite a few glaring flaws or low quality. This is because the previous FE game was Fates on the 3DS and I'm sure you can all imagine that creating a world for these two consoles is very different, but that doesn't mean that the Switch's power itself was the biggest problem, because they improved a lot with Engage. Likewise, if this is the same team that made the previous 3DS DQM game then they probably weren't used to the Switch and most likely had a deadline to meet on top of that. That still makes it more of the dev's problem than the Switch's. We can't always expect perfection and for other devs to do as well as Nintendo's best on their own console, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't expect more from them when they falter like this.
@Gaymer90 But Triangle Strategy DOES increase your new recruits levels to match the suggested level of your next map from what I remember. You need to upgrade their weapon and skills, but I think I had enough materials for them to be usable right away. With Fire Emblem it's a mixed bag. Like story recruits are usually just the right level and in Fates you could use offspring seals to make your child units match the current stage level. But in Three Houses it can be harder to get certain skill levels high enough for job exams if you get them later in the school year, so it's not always perfect. But I think SRPGs manage this pretty well for the most part.
Reading this has made me realise how easily people can get frustrated when playing a video game. Not that they're all invalid, there's just seem stuff here that seems really tame or reasonable and people are acting like it ruins the game.
Fortunately for me, Bravely Default is practically perfect, so I don't have any flaws to point out at all. The part where you loop? I actually enjoyed that because not only did you get to fight the crystal bosses again, but you also get to battle the Asterisk Holders again in different teams, with their own reasons for getting together. Considering that changing jobs allows for different strategies, I actually had a lot of fun with this. If I HAD to pick a flaw though, I guess it'd be that after the loop it gets much harder to find some of the monsters with skills for the blue mage class. Not terrible, you can find those monsters in a bonus dungeon later, but still a shame since there's no warning. Also the localisation censored some stuff and some outfits got completely removed. More a problem with NoA than the game design itself, but there you go.
My other favourite games are Wind Waker & Paper Mario TTYD, but everyone knows their flaws. I didn't mind Triforce fetch quest the first time around, but I really couldn't be bothered on my second playthrough. I stopped right there. And the backtracking in TTYD's Twilight Town is a pain. I still played that game 3 times though.
That second to last featured comment is how I basically feel about the game.
I've tried the demo for a bit and the graphics and performance are rather poor. The aesthetic is somewhat interesting, but the textures for each area are so underwhelming. The draw distance for objects and monsters is surprisingly short. Dragon Quest XI looked amazing so God knows why they couldn't make a game like this look similar. Must be a different team.
That said, I like the monster designs and the mechanics seem fun. I do want to try capturing each monster once, so I do think I'll get the game. Just not now and certainly not for £50.
Hopefully it'll be like Three Houses and the next time the studio tries making a home console game, the graphics will improve a lot.
Delayed until 2025? Cool. I just thinking of going through the DS Prof. Layton games before getting to the game about his daughter. Hopefully I can do them all before this one comes out. I've been getting into detective and mystery games lately, so I'll be looking forward to this. Also appreciate any extra polish, since moving from sprites to HD 3D models tends to be janky at first.
Considering the many possibilities, the first film will likely introduce audiences to the very concept of Zelda and introduce core elements such as the Triforce and how Link, Zelda and Ganondorf usually have a piece each. There's also the timeline split as well. They could just forgo the timewimey stuff and say each film is it's stand alone story, but timelines are in the spirit of Zelda so I'm betting they'll include it. So Ocarina's plot or one similar to it is very likely. And from there, any other game in the series or original plots could spring forth. Personally, I'd like to see Wind Waker be adapted, even if it's the second film. A boy who isn't related to the legendary hero, but makes the god acknowledge him anyway as he sails the seas to save his sister. On the other hand, Twilight Princess with it's more realistic graphics, edginess and brown and bloom seem more fitting for a Live Action adaptation. Then you have Botw/Totk where Link actually has partners meaning more travelling companions for the movie, whilst Skyward Sword is the true origin story. All possibilities are good, but for the first film, setting the stage for more films is paramount.
In an ideal world (the film would be animated) the casting would be done similarly to the One Piece Live Action where fresher talent is given a chance to audition and Miyamoto/Aonuma themselves would oversee it and choose who makes it. Speaking of, the kid who played Young Sanji, Christian Convery, would make a very good Child Link. Remember that 'Adult' Link and Zelda are teens and Child Link in Ocarina was like 7. Granted some time passed in Totk, but let's be honest, only Purah actually 'aged' and she's well over 100 in reality. Ah, but like someone else mentioned, if Miyamoto chooses the casting like he did for the Mario Movie he might just go for some big names that he's fond of. Here's hoping he does things a little differently for Live Action casting.
@echoplex Praying to be healed? In Dragon Quest games you used to carry around your dead friends in coffins all the way to a church so you could get the priest to pray to The Almighty so that he'd resurrect them.
Do people not realise that early designs in development get scrapped and changed all the time? If you've ever seen an art book, you'll find that almost every character had like 3 or so designs before they decided on the final one. So naturally they didn't go with the very first Elephant design they could think of. And Miyamoto gave feedback to the team early, so he saw rough designs that weren't even ready for him yet. Of course he had some criticism for them. Think about some of the early designs for Link in Botw. Imagine if they just went with those instead of reviewing them and trying to improve, lol. We'd have a COMPLETELY different Link to the one we got. Also, as some people have mentioned, Shiggsy didn't like the INITIAL design, so he probably likes the current design much more. It does look a bit bizarre, but I wouldn't go as far as to say that it doesn't suit the Mario world. It's not the first time Mario has transformed into other things, rather than wearing a new suit.
I don't watch a lot of video reviews anymore, but this one was actually pretty good. Sea of Stars seems to have a lot of elements from other great JRPGs I've played, like timed attacks like Mario RPGs, mobs that can kill you quickly like Bravely Default, certain attacks that can weaken the enemy like Octopath etc. So the combat looks really good. The art style of the character portraits throws me off a little bit though. I usually go with games with aesthetics I love completely. Either way, though, I have far too many JRPGs on my plate to consider playing this one any time soon. But I'll keep my eye on it.
Also, complaining about the Japanese element itself in JRPGs sounds somewhat xenophobic. I haven't had a problem playing PSR in front of others myself, but I can see how some parts would make you feel uncomfortable. But that's usually the point. The first boss is meant to be a disgusting pervert. That said, if you don't like the J in JRPGs then perhaps you're better off playing different genres rather than hoping JRPGs change to match your personal tastes.
I thought the title of 'Mr. Video Game himself' was reserved for Mario, no? I'd watch the whole thing, but it seems like people aren't confident there'll be anything worth tuning in for. Perhaps I'll just have it play in the background or something.
Reminder that Nintendo of Europe localised those three RPGs when NOA didn't want to bother. So you can thank Europe for getting Xenoblade at all, British accents included!
Love seeing Monolith Soft doing well! I have my hands full with XC3 and the DLC at the moment but I hope they continue to make big hits on the next console too!
I wish the gameplay seemed as good as the general art direction. Like these character designs are really good but a great anime opening isn't enough to make me buy the game. Hopefully it gets a demo.
When Mario uses the Cherry item in 3D he gains a clone. If the first Mario jumps of an edge, the Cherry clone remains and you control them instead. So is the Mario at the end of 3D World just a clone? Was there even an original Mario to begin with?
@HeadPirate Thanks for that info. Honestly, the whole gender, skin-tone, eye colour changing thing is probably just to explain how you can change your gender ect. in Splatoon whilst still technically being the same person. Hearing all this, I doubt they really care about the specifics anyways. That said, I am still interested in how Inkling and Octoling families work. If they do produce asexually that does that mean Cuttlefish just produced two inklings by himself, and each one of those Inklings produced Callie and Marie? I think Pearl referred to her father in Splatoon 2. So if what you're saying is accurate then Inklings and Octolings only have one 'parent' and one 'grandparent'. Even if it does work like that, NPCs probably don't change genders since there's no reason to story/character-wise. Whatever kind of family Frye actually has, I hope we get more info on them.
@HeadPirate I'm not completely sure what you're getting at here. You're right that the Squid Sisters are actually cousins, but Frye is an Inkling and she has a little brother. So I don't think how they reproduce or work as a family unit is quite as odd as you make it out to be. I think the Jellyfish do work like that though. I think the Jellyfish in Splatoon 3's clothes shop was produced by Jelfonzo.
I don't think some of you realise how funny it'd be if we actually got more male poses and rep thanks to this guy, lol.
Being serious for a moment, he does sound petty and a bit of a nut to buy shares for this reason alone when Splatoon 3 has bigger issues, but he isn't wrong. Female Inklings and Octolings make up a majority of the marketing, like the Sizzle Season trailer recently. And there are certainly more feminine poses than any masculine ones. I myself often look for a pose a think 'Hmm, no, these ones are too girly' and I am not even the most manly man. I'm sure others have felt the same. There are two called Twirl Power and MVPleased for example. One is a play on Girl Power, the other is a parody of Chun-Li's pose. Poses are usually girly like those ones or unixsex. Anyone pretending this isn't the case is being dishonest.
Yes, there's the argument that most other series are male focused, but anyone who actually advocates for equality, customisation and being able to express yourself properly in games like Splatoon would agree that having more masculine poses could only be a good thing.
On a slightly separate note, we do still play as a boy or girl inkling or octoling. Their body and voices change depending on which 'style' we pick. And as someone else mentioned, with clothes like the tri-shred shirt, girls have a bra because it exposes a lot of skin, whilst boys don't. Saying we don't have genders or whatever seems disingenuous. Same with Animal Crossing. The 'styles' not being called Boy and Girl is something that NoA's localisation removed. You still pick Boy or Girl in the Japanese version and in some other languages. Honestly, any game that has you picking a 'style' or 'form' is still making you choose a boy or a girl, like Byleth in Three Houses. Why do people pretend otherwise?
Anyways, Shareholder-kun might seem a bit crazy, but he's possibly influenced and at least got a message to Nintendo more than any of us have alone. We only really stand to gain from his antics. Plus as others mentioned, with shares in Nintendo he stands to gain more from this than cosmetic changes in a video game too.
The anime remake is peak shonen and very entertaining so I hope the gameplay is great too. The animations look pretty good, kinda reminds me of the Naruto Ninja Storm games. But I thought the UK localised most of the Dragon Quest games? I guess this might be different if the anime was dubbed by Americans first. A shame, but there's sure to be JP voices anyways. Highly recommend the anime, by the way.
I don't know how people are struggling to make money in this game after playing for two weeks. If you've just started then it makes sense. But I'd have about 50,000 rupees by now if I wasn't hoarding my gems just in case I need them for something later. And I don't even visit the same cave twice just to mine.
Like I said: Nice person, terrible VA for Zelda. And didn't want her back for Totk. I see most people didn't either. I wonder if she's oblivious to the criticism? I kinda liked seeing Zelda geeking out at the start of the story. But yeah, it just kept getting worse and worse from there. They should've brought over the voice director from XC3. Even if they had to fly them over from Europe. Despite the voice acting often being mid at best, I've really, REALLY enjoyed hearing Dimitri as Rauru for the first part of the game. It made me get attached to him even more. Dimitri's VA just nails that royal, composed tone. I need a scene where Dimitri and Chrom's VAs talk with each other. Might be the only good reason for sticking to English.
Her voice acting as Zelda is pretty poor, yeah. But what's really funny is people making every excuse under the sun as to why people dare mention they're not completely satisfied with mediocrity. Or that this is a thick British accent. You guys have heard of Xenoblade's accents, right? Those are done by actual British people. Hylians barely sound British in Botw. It's so flimsy. You just know the voice director didn't know what they're doing. Speaking of, the voice director must've changed in AoC because Sidon and Mipha suddenly sounded more British. Sidon especially sounded like he had a completely different personality. Whoever's the voice director now I hope they can at least improve on their predecessors. Oh, and to clarify, I've seen Patricia in person. She seems nice. Seriously didn't want to see her coming back as Zelda though. Americans who can do good British accents are hard to find.
Maybe it's just me, but I feel like people in the comments are getting ahead of themselves. Mostly likely Nintendo and Illumination are working on the second Mario Movie. I don't think we have to worry about other IPs for now. A Mario Movie trilogy sounds pretty good, right? I loved the first one, but hopefully the other two will have everything the first one lacked.
Having played tried Etrian Odyssey games, both some demos and The Millennium Girl, I can safely say that Persona Q is the same thing but better. The mechanics, combat, story, characters, the little events and cutscenes that play during dungeons. All better. Untold seemed okay at first although I was a bit unsure, but having a boss at the bottom of the first dungeon that needed like 10-50 of a specific item to beat without prior warning was the last straw. Playing with just portraits that don't actually do or say anything was pretty boring too, although that's optional in Untold at least. Being able to use Atlus characters is enticing, but nah, no thanks. Especially at that price. But speaking of similar but better games, Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk is pretty good. Dungeon exploration is similar and you do use character portraits, but you can customise them more, including which voices they have, and you can form your party in more varied ways too. Battle is also way more fun. After choosing your moves you can watch as 10 or so of your party members strike the enemy and tear them apart limb from limb, sometimes literally!
People acting like people aren't allowed to be disappointed at an aspect of a film adaptation of one of their favourite/childhood series is such as weird take. I don't like it when people are overly negative either but saying things like 'man I wish Charles Martinet/other voice actor I really like did Mario's voice instead' is a fair opinion. The fact is that Chris' voice doesn't suit Mario the same way Charlie Day's voice fits Luigi. And his voice doesn't really reflect Mario's past voices either. It's just an ordinary voice. That said, his high pitched parts and Mario phrases have been getting better in the last few trailers, so I don't think it'll be a disaster. I just think it could've been better. Much better.
And my God, I'm so TIRED of hearing people say that Charles Martinet couldn't voice Mario for the whole movie. How has anyone on this site missed all the comments saying that Charles has a big vocal range and could totally do other voices than his high pitched one? Did they miss that the same year the Mario Movie was announced he voiced the main antagonist in a Dragon Ball Movie who just happened to be a short guy with a mustache? He was great in it!
Anyways, I don't mind Chris Pratt in general, but he wasn't really selling me on the voices etc here. But the animation from the trailers looks pretty good so I'm going to see the film regardless.
@jrt87 Nice job putting words in my mouth. Have you never played a sequel on the same console before? The trailers have shown that besides being in Hyrule with some differences, there's also tons of space above Hyrule that'll be completely new, caves and some kind of spiritual underground area. Link's new arm, the ability to craft vehicles and even weapons, reverse time and we haven't even seen what's in the giant constructions in the sky. The trailers have only scratched the surface of what we can do and see in the game, yet you're practically determined to convince everyone that the Zelda team spent 6 years on something that would only equate to little more than a bigger version of Botw's DLC. It's ridiculous. Excuse me for having faith that the Zelda team creating "6 years of DLC" leads to something worthy of being its own sequel. Also, I had over 300 hours of fun in Botw. And I'm looking forward for more in Totk. It's a shame you're not. But you don't have to look down on everyone that does just because they're not as cynical and pessimistic as you are.
@jrt87 Reads like doomposting to me. I'm just telling you the facts. Most people are exciting for the new Zelda yet when given the chance, people like to moan. Making them the vocal minority by definition. Yes, Botw had both Wii U and Switch pre-orders, what's your point? If it's that the current Switch user base outnumber the previous Switch user base and Wii U user base then that's fine. I wouldn't know those numbers myself. But either way it means more people are pre-ordering Totk than Botw even with the lack of news. So neither Nintendo's approach to the next Zelda game nor their marketing is having an adverse effect on the series. And your Hong Kong 97 part is so nonsensical it doesn't deserve a proper response. You act like Zelda fans never complain about a Zelda entry but whatever happened to the so-called Zelda Cycle? Wind Waker was received poorly at first despite being a lot of people's favourite Zelda now. I've seen tons of people complain about Skyward Sword's being linear too. Hell, I can't get into 2D Zelda games like A Link Between Worlds sometimes too. Yet here you are, acting like Zelda fans will praise any Zelda game no matter what. Perhaps you should accept that maybe, just maybe, a lot of people actually enjoyed Botw and are confidant that since that same dev team spent 6 years making a sequel that it'll be a great game too. The only real reason to be cautious is if you didn't like Botw to begin with.
So far, 78% of people are varying levels of excited. But like the Twitter post, most of the comments are negative. I think this really shows that people who are worried about Totk or think the lack of news prevents them from looking forward to it are the vocal minority. Not to mention Tears of the Kingdom pre-orders are already out-pacing Breath of the Wild.
Ah, yes. Doomposting and pessimism at its finest. I do wonder about that translation and interpretation though. At first I thought it meant that Totk will change the world of gaming itself. But it seems like others think it means that we'll change Hyrule somehow. Even going as far as terraforming. We can't really be sure exactly what he meant just yet, but it sounds like something to look forward to.
Wow, Amazon saw people inflating the Collector's Edition and thought it could work for the Amiibo too. Doesn't help that they're the first UK retailers to sell it, apparently. Even if the price does go down, I'm not certain I even want it if it just makes my paraglider a bit prettier. Surely it can do more than that? I hope the other amiibo keep their old rewards as well.

Re: Unicorn Overlord Update Incoming, Here Are The Patch Notes
Re: Zelda Live-Action Movie Director: "I Want To Fulfil People's Greatest Desires"
Re: Talking Point: Should We Be Expecting More From Remakes And Remasters?
@123akis
I feel like you and a lot of people commenting have forgotten that Sticker Star, Origami King and maybe Colour Splash all had in-game museums with concept art and stuff of the game.
Re: My Nintendo Store Reveals Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door Pre-Order Bundle (EU)
I got an email about this from Nintendo yesterday and preordered it then.
I have to say, I don't think I could ask for better merch of my favourite video game! Felt like I'd been waiting my entire life for this moment, lol.
Re: Japanese Charts: Unicorn Overlord Dominates In Its Debut Week
I've been loving the game so far so I can confidently say this was well deserved.
Has anyone else been having issues with the DLC though?
I bought the digital Monarch Edition since it came with a digital artbook and 16 Bit music, but I can't seem to access it at the moment. Feels like I'm the only one who bought it too since I haven't seen anyone else talk about it.
Re: Deals: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door - £10 Off In UK, Paper Plane Pre-Order Bonus
I REALLY want that Paper Mario Keychain so I honestly hope it's not exclusive to GAME of all retailers.
Of course their price is the highest.
Re: UK Charts: Unicorn Overlord Makes The Top Ten And Sells Best On Switch
@imadeanaccount
You should try the demo if you haven't already!
The story may seem generic but it's not bad. Unicorn Overlord seems to be character driven. So if you like the characters themselves I think you'd still be interested in what happens.
Re: Octopath Traveler Dev Is Launching A New Dungeon Crawler Next Month
Wait, so it's not made by Team Asano?
Almost got my hopes up.
Re: Round Table: Let's Talk About Palworld - Comparisons, Controversy, 'Copying'
@IceEarthGuard
The Ancient Magus' Bride doesn't have a magic school initially but Chise does end up entering one in the latest season.
Re: Fire Emblem Engage Artist Celebrates First Anniversary With New Artwork
Interesting how most people agree that Engage's gameplay is better than Three Houses yet a lot still say Three Houses is the better game. Is gameplay not king after all?
At least when it comes t Fire Emblem, fans seem to rate the games by story, writing and characters rather than gameplay, lol.
I still haven't started Engage myself, I still have a lot of routes in Three Houses to get through, but I'm working on it. And it is nice to see people appreciating Mika's artstyle. It certainly is something that takes getting used to.
Re: Square Enix To Be "Aggressive In Applying" AI Going Forwards
Hopefully they mean using AI for stuff like coding and not art, writing or other creative endeavours. I have to say though, it's almost like they want to sound gross. First NFT and now AI. AI has many uses, but you have to have an extreme lack of self-awareness to use it in this context and expect positive feedback.
@Supaguy
Hey now, easy on the Team Asano slander.
Re: Feature: Best Switch Video Game Characters Of 2023
@Lizuka
Yes!
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Viewtiful Joe 2
@Ogbert
Man, you're so close, yet so far.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Viewtiful Joe 2
People keep using the word 'upskirt' but I don't think they realise that's just how Silvia's outfit is designed. The dress skirt thing isn't meant to cover her hips.
She's not called Sexy Silvia for nothing!
Anyways, going with NA this time. It's got one of my fav Viewtiful Joe poses, Silvia looking cool and a decent background. Only thing it's missing a movie/camera reel reference or something.
Re: Fighters From Smash Bros. For 3DS Were Leaked By Former NoA Employee's Child
R.I.P. Nintendo Employee's child.

Re: Review: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (Switch) - A Near-Royal Return For The Addictive Monster-Catching Spin-Off
@HXLXIII
I've seen The Dark Prince being called Dragon Quest Monsters 3 online, including in Japan. I think the reason is because the Dragon Quest Monsters Joker games are considered their own games with their own numbers, so you're probably thinking of that game. I said DQM3 because it's the shortest way I can think of.
Re: Zelda Producer Responds To Fans Who Want A More "Traditional Linear" Adventure
Re: Eiji Aonuma Comments On The Possibility Of A Playable Zelda In The Future
Re: Review: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (Switch) - A Near-Royal Return For The Addictive Monster-Catching Spin-Off
@twowingedangel
Ports?
Re: Review: Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (Switch) - A Near-Royal Return For The Addictive Monster-Catching Spin-Off
Can't believe people are defending the graphics and performance of this game and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet.
Re: Talking Point: What Are The Worst Parts Of Your Favourite Games?
@Gaymer90
But Triangle Strategy DOES increase your new recruits levels to match the suggested level of your next map from what I remember.
Re: Talking Point: What Are The Worst Parts Of Your Favourite Games?
Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince Are In
That second to last featured comment is how I basically feel about the game.
Re: Professor Layton And The New World Of Steam Is Now Set To Release In 2025
Delayed until 2025?
Re: Talking Point: Which Zelda Game Should Be Adapted For The Movie?
Re: Talking Point: So, Who Could Play Link, Zelda, Ganondorf In The Upcoming Zelda Movie?
Re: Feature: Harvest Moon 64’s Relationship With Alcohol, The "Magic Liquid" Of Flowerbud Village
@echoplex
Praying to be healed?
In Dragon Quest games you used to carry around your dead friends in coffins all the way to a church so you could get the priest to pray to The Almighty so that he'd resurrect them.
Re: Miyamoto Wasn't A Big Fan Of Super Mario Bros. Wonder's Early Elephant Design
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sea Of Stars
Re: Gamescom 2023 Opening Night Live: Everything You Need To Know - Date, Time, Where To Stream
I thought the title of 'Mr. Video Game himself' was reserved for Mario, no?
I'd watch the whole thing, but it seems like people aren't confident there'll be anything worth tuning in for.
Perhaps I'll just have it play in the background or something.
Re: Monolith Soft Profits Almost Doubled In Fiscal Year Ending March 2023
Reminder that Nintendo of Europe localised those three RPGs when NOA didn't want to bother. So you can thank Europe for getting Xenoblade at all, British accents included!
Love seeing Monolith Soft doing well!
I have my hands full with XC3 and the DLC at the moment but I hope they continue to make big hits on the next console too!
Re: Marvelous Reveals Opening Anime Movie For Upcoming Action RPG Silent Hope
I wish the gameplay seemed as good as the general art direction.
Like these character designs are really good but a great anime opening isn't enough to make me buy the game.
Hopefully it gets a demo.
Re: Feature: 8 Strangest Super Mario Urban Legends - Which Mario Myths Are True?
When Mario uses the Cherry item in 3D he gains a clone.
If the first Mario jumps of an edge, the Cherry clone remains and you control them instead. So is the Mario at the end of 3D World just a clone? Was there even an original Mario to begin with?
Re: Random: Disgruntled Splatoon 3 Fan Complains Directly To Nintendo's President About Male Poses
@HeadPirate
Thanks for that info.
Re: Random: Disgruntled Splatoon 3 Fan Complains Directly To Nintendo's President About Male Poses
@HeadPirate
I'm not completely sure what you're getting at here.
Re: Random: Disgruntled Splatoon 3 Fan Complains Directly To Nintendo's President About Male Poses
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom: All amiibo Unlocks
I can confirm that Link's smash amiibo also gives you the Mirror of Twilight fabric like Wolf Link does.
Re: Infinity Strash: Dragon Quest The Adventure Of Dai Launches On Switch This September
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Update Now Live (Version 1.1.2), Here Are The Full Patch Notes
I don't know how people are struggling to make money in this game after playing for two weeks. If you've just started then it makes sense. But I'd have about 50,000 rupees by now if I wasn't hoarding my gems just in case I need them for something later.
And I don't even visit the same cave twice just to mine.
Re: Zelda's Tears Of The Kingdom VA Took Inspiration From The Hit HBO Show "Game Of Thrones"
Re: Zelda's English VA Officially Confirms Her Return In Tears Of The Kingdom
Re: Mario Movie Just The Beginning Of Nintendo & Illumination's "Rewarding Collaboration"
Re: Sega Explains Why Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection Costs $80

Re: Chris Pratt Defends "The Voices" In The Mario Movie
Re: Poll: What Are Your Hype Levels For Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
@jrt87
Nice job putting words in my mouth.
Re: Poll: What Are Your Hype Levels for Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
@jrt87
Reads like doomposting to me.
Re: Poll: What Are Your Hype Levels for Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?
So far, 78% of people are varying levels of excited.
But like the Twitter post, most of the comments are negative.
I think this really shows that people who are worried about Totk or think the lack of news prevents them from looking forward to it are the vocal minority.
Not to mention Tears of the Kingdom pre-orders are already out-pacing Breath of the Wild.
Re: Eiji Aonuma On Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom: Expect New Gameplay That Will Change The Game World
Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom amiibo Goes Live On Amazon UK, Pre-Order Now
Wow, Amazon saw people inflating the Collector's Edition and thought it could work for the Amiibo too. Doesn't help that they're the first UK retailers to sell it, apparently.
Even if the price does go down, I'm not certain I even want it if it just makes my paraglider a bit prettier. Surely it can do more than that? I hope the other amiibo keep their old rewards as well.
