Re: Review: Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition - Spectacular, Daring, And The Best In Class

Cooligan

@Jumping_Dead That's totally alright! It's definitely not for everyone. I just think there are too many people who assume it is a personal attack on the player, which based on everything else the narrative does...just doesn't seem accurate. In a MyNavi interview Kodaka said that the team knew it would be controversial, and maybe even disappointing for some! It wouldn't make sense to insult your own fanbase. I think they just wanted to shock people and start a conversation, and welp, it most certainly did that!

Re: Review: Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony Anniversary Edition - Spectacular, Daring, And The Best In Class

Cooligan

Please excuse the incoming essay, but Danganronpa V3 is genuinely one of my favourite stories of all time. It is a truly unforgettable experience and I think it might have one of the most misunderstood endings in all of gaming. If you take it at face value you will undoubtedly find it frustrating and maybe even insulting, but I have to be honest, it really does take some narratological analysis to fully embrace. Once you do start to piece everything together though, it feels ingenious. V3 is a game that commits to its overarching themes, and the final class trial is the moment that ties everything together. There are so many events throughout the game that I just found...odd in my first playthrough (ESPECIALLY the opening prologue). There is a surreal and uneasy atmosphere throughout the entire game that is hard to explain, but I genuinely believe this approach was intentional. The inconsistencies of each chapter start to make sense within the context of the ending, and I think it's a sign of the writers wanting to push boundaries. Some might call it an excuse for poor writing, but eh...I don't know. It might be imperfect, but I love the fact that it does so many things to set itself apart form the previous installments. Even when you think it's going down a familiar path, it goes and throws in a twist that you never would have seen coming. The truth and lies theme is deep-rooted throughout the entire game, without the bizarre and existential ending it just would not make sense. A game as ambitious as V3 deserved a crazy twist, and I think it would have been disappointing otherwise. Again, it's not perfect and I totally get if you don't personally like it, but I do believe it is misunderstood. If you haven't played V3, go in blind and with an open mind! I adore it as both a game and a story, I can't recommend it enough.

Re: Review: WarioWare Gold (3DS)

Cooligan

I've been playing WarioWare Gold all weekend long, and overall it is an extremely good title with a shocking amount of content and replay value. I know a lot of people are saying they’re going to skip this game because it’s not on the switch, but WarioWare Gold was tailor made for the 3DS, and ignoring it just for this fact alone is doing the title a huge disservice. It is clear that a huge amount of love and care was put into the making of this game. It is a love letter to the WarioWare series, and a perfect entry point for newcomers. Please, for the love of god do not overlook this game!!!

Re: Review: Hive Jump (Wii U eShop)

Cooligan

@Kalmaro I don't judge the Wii U off of how well it preformed or how many people knew what it was, I judge it off of the games it has and the enjoyment I got out of it. It's why I adore my Wii U, the other problems it had are irrelevant to me.

Re: Review: Hive Jump (Wii U eShop)

Cooligan

@Kalmaro That's another good one! But seriously I don't understand how most people still find that joke funny, the Wii U isn't even a bad console. Yeah I know the Wii U "failed" but constantly making fun of it feels like rubbing salt into a wound.

Re: Talking Point: An Era Ends As Nintendo Continues to Ignore 3D on the 3DS

Cooligan

It's not a deal breaker, but I really do love the 3D. Sure I don't use it terribly often, but from time to time I'll turn it on for fun. I feel like people are too harsh on it, it was what convinced me to purchase a 3DS back in the day. Sometimes I forget how truly impressive it is, it's extremely gratifying to see the depth through 3D. It's like a tiny world you can reach out and touch, I love it!

Re: Review: Go Vacation (Wii)

Cooligan

Over six years later and I still completely disagree with this review, I absolutely ADORE Go Vacation. I can understand that on the surface it may look like a bare bones title, but in reality it's a super relaxing and enjoyable experience. It's worth a shot, it's so much fun exploring the resorts by yourself or with friends/family, and there's so much content here that it's almost a must have for the Wii. I like it that much.

Re: Rumour: Wii U System Update Hints That Miiverse Is Coming To An End Soon

Cooligan

Oh my god this actually makes me super sad, I love miiverse and I don't want to see it go. I really really hope that Nintendo at least archives the posts so they still show up in games that use them. I like the sense of community in games like Splatoon and Wind Waker HD, and Super Mario Maker seriously utilized them. All I want is for them to archive it all rather than just wiping it from existence, I've made a lot of fond gaming memories on there and I don't want to see them disappear.

Re: Ever Oasis

Cooligan

I've been extremely excited for this game since its announcement! It looks like Fantasy Life which is another really fun 3DS title, so I'm definitely going to be picking this one up.

Re: It's Nintendo Switch Petition Time, With Miiverse on the Agenda

Cooligan

I feel as though a lot of games simply wouldn't feel the same without Miiverse on the Switch. I would greatly miss going online to post my adventures on there every now and then. I know it sounds silly, but for me It's kind of a little a small archive to save my memories playing Nintendo games. One game that really stands out in my mind is Splatoon...I dunno. I guess you just don't know what you have until it's gone.

Re: Fire Emblem Nintendo Direct Confirmed for 18th January

Cooligan

When they first showed the trailer for Fire Emblem Warriors I was super excited...but for the wrong reasons. I thought it was going to be a new console installment in the series, but it ended up being another Dynasty Warriors game. I'm personally not excited for it. I played Hyrule Warriors and it was okay, but I never really got into it. Hopefully they announce a more traditional Fire Emblem game in the direct. My fingers are crossed.

Re: Nintendo Switch Won't Have Miiverse Or StreetPass

Cooligan

It's upsetting that it seems like Nintendo doesn't even have plans to make a replacement for Miiverse. I really like it as silly as it may seem. There are some times that the community has genuinely helped me out with a game, and I've made some super cool friends on there. I'm hoping there might be some sort of place to upload the pictures and footage they were talking about in the presentation, but sadly they probably won't.

Re: Breaking Down the Nintendo Switch Online Service Details

Cooligan

This entirely depends on the price, quality of service, and incentives. So far I simply know too little to say whether or not I think this is good or bad. This could be a nice step forward if it's priced reasonably and works extremely well...but only time will tell.

Re: Here Are Your New My Nintendo Rewards

Cooligan

I pretty much have all these games already. At the very very least, more home menu themes and free games (like Zelda Picross) would be appreciated. I got Metroid Fusion for free when the service first started, so I had high hopes. Unfortunately now there are no offers like that at all.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 1st September

Cooligan

This was a very disappointing direct for me. Pokemon Sun and Moon looks great, but we've already seen a lot of it. Ever Oasis also looks fantastic but AGAIN we've already seen it at E3. Everything else was either Wii U ports (which is a huge stab in the back for Wii U owners), or eShop games that were quickly skimmed over. I really would have liked to see some more Tank Troopers to be honest.

Re: Paper Mario: Color Splash

Cooligan

I'm actually super hyped for this game! I did really like Sticker Star...so that probably has something to do with it, but I think it'll be even better than that game! Color Splash looks like it won't be like the Thousand-Year Door, which is very saddening. However, what we ARE getting looks pretty good as well! The Rescue V trailers are very funny, the graphics are very pretty, and it all around looks like an enjoyable experience! The battle system may look disappointing, but regardless I bet this will be a solid Paper Mario game.
