The problem is this will never replace traditional revenue streams. It has to be additive - so as long as it's new and interesting games, it could be interesting.
I'm yet to see cloud deliver on new gaming experiences - this might be a MMO version of the frostbite engine - maybe combined with something like second Life.
Although I would always prefer a local, non streaming service - I would be happy to use this if the play quality isn't impacted too much. Especially if it means playing any game.
I can see the attraction for publishers and developers -assuming the backend costs are low.
My friend from work just bought his first console ever, for his kids. This is the game I recommended for him, and they love it.
I suspect this will have a very high digital attach rate, so between physical and digital sales this should blast though 1m worldwide quickly. My copy was digital...
@jariw probably , but I spend very little time following gaming these days. It was more a criticism of what Nintendo Life is becoming... I would expect all games around the top #100 to at least get a review. It's not that hard!!
Was wondering why I've never heard of this... No page or review on NL.
More reviews please ... Still go long periods on NL without any.
Still remember when I got flowerworks released... Only in my horror to discover the real challenge was to get any attention from the media. You only have a few weeks post launch, unless you get some traction with an article like this.
How is this for a theory - developers find the best way to boost sales and visibility is to put out a (fake) press release saying how well their game is selling...
I think it looks great, and having played the first game this is going to be a big step up. Predicting this to be a smash hit in Japan, and hopefully will set the benchmark for what Pokemon will have to exceed next year.
Hollow Knight is selling incredibly well - and it deserves it. Undertale just came out, but Hollow Knight has been out for months ... And it's basically #2. Clocked over 100hrs and I have to force myself to not play more. 2 bosses I can't beat, 106% otherwise...
It's good, but it's not FTL imo. I finished the game on my first real attempt, using 4 islands.
There is some replayability from unlocking and using other squads, but some squads just feel unfair IMO. Probably give this a 7, whereas FTL is a 10 for me.
I don't understand why a game like this would be procedurally generated. It's better to actually design the world, build the puzzles into it - and not have the hassle of designing and testing the world randomisation system.
I was keen to get this one for the kids... But with our large backlog, Mario party, Pokemon ... It's too much for now. Maybe in the Xmas holidays. The first labo is also now in pieces...
They are not joycons. They have no analog stick, no shoulder buttons, etc. The only reason they snap-on is to charge.
They could be supported by other games - but this support would have to be coded in explicitly. This could happen in the future, but Nintendo isn't going to promise something that doesn't exist now.
They are nes controllers to play... Nes games. Shocking concept I know
Obviously an experiment from ubi. It's unlikely to sell well regardless (in Japan), but it could open up to providing all their back catalogue via the cloud.
5G is no panacea - game streaming has massive data requirements. People seem content to play one of the million available app store mobile games instead on the go
If they work on porting odyssey to the switch, it will happen after the full release on the other consoles. It's going to take time and cost $$$.
People need to remember this is tied to an account, not a device (right?).
So you can go to a friends house, log into your account, download the games ... and they can play them for a week (being offline) after you go back home and continue using your Switch...
If they only checked on expiry date ... it would only take 1 person sharing their account details online, and people could abuse this badly.
Hollow Knight is chock full of delicious art - it underpins the entire game. If any game could put out a physical release with a gorgeous artbook ... It's this one.
I played a bit of this on PC (free) at the time... The free demo might still be available.
Really enjoyed this, and would love to see this on the switch. Backlog and price would determine if I actually got it, but there would be 50-100hrs of play in this, if not more...
Streaming on the other consoles utilised both streaming from the DVD drives and streaming from the hard drives ... Concurrently to maximise the data throughput.
It would be very interesting to see what data rate is capable streaming on the switch (cartridge, internal memory and external memory all at once).
It might even be possible for Nintendo to manufacture "faster" cartridges (which are more expensive, or optimised for streaming). Be an interesting investigation.
I suspect the breaker might be the size of the data on the physical disc, compared to a cartridge and cost.
I'll be very surprised to see a rage type game on the system, but you never know...
Finished this on the Wii, and it's a truly brilliant game. It will be interesting to play this without motion controls. Close to My favorite game of that generation.
Very tempted to double dip, which I normally never do.
Go spend some time in Japan. A lot of people spend a lot of time on trains. Virtually everyone in a train is on a phone. And many of those people are playing games.
I'm surprised mobiles aren't 90% of the total revenue market...
I have clocked over 100hrs on this, on 300+ runs. At first it seems impossible, but you slowly learn patterns, items, maps, bosses... The more you play the better you get.
I have got to the true ending on 3 characters, and beaten the easy final boss (Hunter). The pilot final boss seems way to hard, doubt I'll ever beat it.
Unlocked almost everything, including the secret floors.
My main criticisms are the game has too much, and is too random as a result. You can have easy runs or impossible runs, and it's nothing to do with skill. Some items can kill your game, depending on your setup.
It's also a little too mean, and eventually there is nothing to do with currency - I wish you could buy a gun or upgrade before a run with it.
Not sure how I feel about a massive extra content pack - there is too much stuff as it stands.
@maruse I was definitely surprised. Maybe it's the routes I was taking, or the hours... Mainly during working hours with no kids around. I had my 3ds out, and didn't see a DS in use the entire trip. Had plenty of street pass hits though, but not as many as I expected...
I only spent 1 day in the Tokyo region, and 1 night around Shinjuku. I did try out the Mario kart VR, which was quite fun.
You know what's funny? I just came back from 2 weeks in Japan, spent a lot of time traveling, trains and major centres.
I didn't see a single person playing switch the entire time - no joke. In fact the only console, was an older man playing PSP / PSV near Toyko on a train... Everyone else was on their mobile.

I doubt they would spend a lot of $$$ on original content - be just a few games for promotional and exclusive purposes
...
I've always been strongly against cloud gaming - as hardware gets better and cheaper over time, it's even less useful. But if it opens up a new market - i.e 1000s of quality games to a billion (Android) users... It could be scary.
Thanks all. One of these sucker's would make for a great Xmas present my kids. My eldest has my old small 3ds, but my younger is on a DS XL. It's looking a little dated...
Given how poorly Nintendo usually does in the UK, this shows that the switch is actually working and making inroads into the market. This is great news for Nintendo, and if things continue with this trajectory the switch will end up dominating globally.
A simpler cutdown switch hardware would work fine as a 3ds ... It purely comes down to the software side. What is the value of the second screen? Would they keep it compatible with 3ds games? It's a 3d screen still a thing?
They could do a souped up 3ds with a better screen, faster processor and even mobile network...
Would it be compatible with the switch - use it as a controller? The price point would need to be around half to work...
I'm keen to try this out, but after watching the first minute ... It's not going to happen in my household while the kids and wife and around. I don't think it would go down well...

Sounds like fun, but it's a question of timing. I think Xeno 2 will be my next purchase...
Doubt I'll pay more than $20 AUD for this.

Re: Three, Yes Three Resident Evil Games Are Headed To Nintendo Switch In 2019
RE4 is amazing. Best game of the GC generation (any platform) and legitimately one of the best games ever made.
Its going to be hard NOT buying this again - I don't think I have a working copy of this (GC gone, not sure where my Wii copy is, etc...).
C'mon Capcom - release all 3 in a pack for a decent price, and watch the sales soar
Re: Huawei Is Launching A New Gaming Phone To Rival The Switch, And It Costs Over $1,000
Umm, Bluetooth "button" controllers have been available for phones and tablets for years. This makes no difference.
Unless the software is designed for the device, it's more of the same.

Re: Video: See Yo-Kai Watch 4 Running On Switch With This 10-Minute Gameplay Video And Trailer
Watch the first minute of the second video. All of this is in-game, none of it is cutscene or FMV. This looks fantastic for a game of this type.

Re: Review: The World Ends With You: Final Remix - A Stylish Reimagining Of The DS Cult Classic
Finished this on the ds and it remains one of my favourite games ever. I also love how much of it is based on the real layout of parts of Tokyo.
That said, I doubt I'll get this again - I think ds style touch controls were essential in making this work properly.
But for those that haven't played this, it really is a great game.

Re: Bandai Namco And HTC Are Bringing Mario Kart VR To The United States
As fun as this is, it really feels like an arcade game. It doesn't have the depth or full gameplay as the full Mario kart experience.
The longer you play it, the more the immersion becomes irrelevant... And the game matters.
Still, it's definitely fun and worth trying out
I really wanted to try the Dragon Quest... A co-op style game would be better and could go for longer.

Re: Nintendo Switch Now Supports Digital Game Sharing, But There's A Catch
Nice, and more or less piracy proof. This allows sharing of digital games with a friend. Only one console can access these games, per account at once.
So you could play a physical game, and share your digital library with a friend.
