3 houses gave us a game within a world. Something with real meat. Lots of story and lots of combat.
I completely ignored engage from the outset. It seemed like a set of combat missions, and I'm not interested in mashing characters from older fire emblem games.
In a world where there are heaps of great games to play, I'm not going to spend full price on this type of "mission pack" game.
On a side note I was amazed that Metroid prime remake is $60 ... But the Mario RPG and TYOD paper Mario are both $80 (Aust). Remakes or not, that is crazy pricing.
Really enjoyed and finished the first game, and the kids enjoyed it as well.
The lower difficulty is a huge turnoff, especially if this becomes a rinse-and-repeat strategy that works everywhere...
... But that might be perfect for the kids.
Will get it eventually. Still working through la-mulana 2 (trying to minimise the guide, but man...), barely started XC3, and haven't touched Splatoon which the kids are enjoying...
Anyone defending emulation clearly doesn't understand how it absolutely leads to piracy, purely because of the mechanisms involved.
As far as this DRM system goes, it could be as simple as performing real world timing on critical sections of code or graphics routines. If it runs too fast or to slow ... It may not be real switch hardware.
This is risky though, as it may not work on an updated switch model either, and may need to be patched.
Graphics have never been the selling point of Pokemon games, yet they are selling just fine. The graphics will gradually improve with each team, each product, each hardware cycle.
And don't discount the impact of something called "Covid" either.
This game is ok, but not great. Apart from the terrible graphics, there are serious balance issues... I'm not sure I ever got past the last phase of the final boss.
The difficulty goes from very easy, to dying Ina few seconds... Just by tweaking health numbers.
That said, it does have a "play again charm" ... The core gameplay loop is ok. Probably a 6 or 7 from me.
Gave the game a go about a year ago, and it's truly amazing ... In unexpected ways. The story is amazing and the game is heaps of fun, challenging and has amazing bosses.
Absolute must play, and don't stop until the end It's either a 9 or 10 from me.
Always thought adding flying elements sorts of ruins the gameplay opportunity in these games, but this seems more defence based ... Building shields and so.
Definitely interested, but will also look out for reviews.
@Serialsid not sure I buy that. You can make the same argument every week, without any evidence to back that up. And if sales are weak in other weeks, wouldn't that accumulate hardware to sell when a big title is released?
Well, that's the end of flowerworks on Nintendo hardware. Maybe one day will complete the Steam release, and no plans to support the switch... Although that would be great.
Based on the number of comments in this thread from other people who have played it, it sounds like the reviewer was the odd one out this time. Will consider a purchase once my backlog dies down...
I'll be buying this. And counting down until Blood finally gets a release, hopefully with full multiplayer. That almost might push Silksong off my most wanted 🤣
Loving this game. Graphics could be better, and frame rate could be better, but it would have very little impact on the overall product or the enjoyment of the game.
Hollow Knight nailed the world, characters and atmosphere. Super Metroid has better "pure" gameplay, but Hollow Knight the story. The RPG elements are also better with the customisation of the charms. Metroid ain't got that, and it makes a massive difference.
Return all the caterpillar eggs, and you'll see what makes Hollow Knight so special.
Silksong it's easily my #1 wanted, even over BoTW2.
I loved Zelda 2, and finished it several times. It has some great elements and ideas.
Spirit tracks is the only Zelda game I played and actively didn't enjoy. Thought it was awful. Was so happy when I got to the end, didn't bother to do the last boss, and never played it again.
I booted the game up this morning, and there was an update waiting - pretty sure it was 1.02.
Really enjoying the game, although playing on hard was almost a mistake... It's exceptionally hard. Died and lost progress many times now. Just a bit further than Tokyo Tower, about level 16...
This is no more legal, than Sony recreating Mario or Link, and including them in their games. It can't be done because of copyright, which is there for a good reason.
If they want to write their own "engine" which enables a game like Zelda that's fine - but the second they make it compatible with the asset formats "exactly" used by Nintendo, then that's bad - because it facilitates copyright fraud and piracy.
If it wasn't based around Zelda, there would be no publicity and none of this would matter.

Looks terrible. I was hoping for cuphead, this looks much worse than a 10 year old Rayman.

So how many of you have worked at a professional video games company and have in-depth knowledge of software development and video games development?
Oh that's right. Zero.
Re: Poll: What Are You Hoping To See In The Nintendo Direct Mini?
Getting sick of saying it.
Silksong.
Re: Nintendo Close To Hitting $1.8 Billion In Revenue From Mobile Games
This is lifetime. Over what, 10 years? And revenue, not profit?
Peanuts, but at least it's good advertising.
They should be pulling $1bn profit a year, min.
Re: PSA: Experiencing Switch OLED Blackouts In Docked Mode? Swap Your HDMI Cable
Software bugs in TVs. Gotta love it. I occasionally have to hard reboot my TV, as either an app gets broken or it seems to run out of RAM. Sigh.

Re: Here's Your First Look At The Switch Box Art For Splatoon 3
I'm sure some of the internals of the game have been changed. Rendering engine. Networking code. Possibly match making code.
Sometimes there are real "structural" reasons why a new release is warranted, or even required ... Outside a general patch.
That said, I do find the timing odd. I was certain this would have been released along a new hardware model...
Re: Shin Megami Tensei V Tops 1 Million Sales Worldwide
I'm still playing this after around 6 months. Not finished yet, hard mode. Level 45 or so.
Re: Back Page: Which Is The Best Controller Button, And What Does Your Pick Say About You?
@FishyS totally agree. B all the way.
A is usually the trigger-happy spamming button, it's pressed so often, it more about when it's not pressed.
B ... Is the gameplay or timing button. Dodge. Jump. Special bomb. It's where the magic happens 🤣
(This really is a bonkers topic...)
Re: Metroid Dread's Second Free Update Is Now Available, Here Are The Full Patch Notes
Still haven't played the game, and very little interest. This from a hardcore Metroid fan
Re: New Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Footage Showcases Gnarly Master Sword
Cyborg Link. Been infused with the ancient technology.
This is a delay of 3 months. That's nothing - the game will be out 12 months from now.

Let's see what happens when GT is released.
Re: Some Trainers Are Worried About Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Returning To "Traditional" Catching Mechanics
I don't see the need for hate. Look at Dragon Quest ... Open world, enemies in the open world, but turn based battles.
Maybe enemies around the enemy you encounter end up in the battle - there are a lot of things you could do.
There could also be free moment in the combat, along with turn based combat ... Like a free games try.
Give them a chance, it could be the best of both worlds.
Arceus looks like fun, but it's also edging closer to a slow paced 3rd person shooter with the mechanics.
Re: Review: Triangle Strategy - Square Enix Plots A Total Tactical Triumph
Will probably get this next week, when I get a week of break. Spent a lot of time with FF:T in the past.
How different is this from Fire Emblem? I can't get the triangle vs "3 houses" out of my head.
Re: Japanese Charts: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Holds Strong In The Wake Of Elden Ring
If Elden ring doesn't boost PS5 sales... Then what will?
I guess this is the "problem" with releases of new games on current and last gen hardware. PS4 is more than powerful enough for most games.
Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet Announced, Releasing Worldwide On Switch In "Late 2022"
I think it looks fantastic. I'm more worried about gameplay than graphics.
A true open world mainline Pokemon game. People should be excited.
Re: Review: The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask - Magnificent, Unique, And Worth Revisiting
OoT over MM anyday for me.
Its been a while, but I always found MM more "linear" and more forced - less variety in puzzle solving.
This feeds into the limited time mechanic, where the game intentionally limits your ability to explore.
OoT is so much fun "doing nothing", hanging around Hyrule field, and other areas, with the day/night cycle, and enemies changing. MM loses that.
My 20c.

@sketchturner yes. 40 min of Silksong or bust.

N64 Goldeneye for switch, Cloud edition, requiring Xbox Live account and Microsoft account :/

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Has Already Sold Over 6.5 Million Copies Worldwide
I'll be buying a copy for my son for his birthday next week. He thought sword and shield was stupid easy, her should enjoy this a lot more.
Re: Random: Here's GTA V Being Played On A Game Boy (Yes, Really)
Very impressive, because it's extremely difficult to display an "image" on the Gameboy, let alone proper video.
Yes, it's basically video streaming, but that's extremely hard on this hardware.
Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Is Already Being Streamed Online, And It's Not Even Out Yet
Easy targets for Nintendo. And they can do this via twitch, YouTube and the other providers ... And get those accounts banned and closed.
Piracy is one thing, but for people to profit off this is off the scale.
Re: Mario Kart 9 Is "In Active Development" And Comes With A "New Twist", Analyst Claims
Mario kart 9 : flipped
Characters run around the tracks on their legs and carry the karts on their backs.
Re: Soapbox: 2022 Is Looking Glorious For Tactics Games On Switch
As much as I love Advance Wars, I have played the first 2 games to death and won't be getting the remake. Hope there is a new game coming sometime.
Rabbits for me, and the others I'll look out for.
Re: Nintendo Obtains High Court Injunction Against Internet Service Providers To Block Switch Pirates
People who pirate are fools, ruining things for everyone.
Why?
Piracy will lead to cloud-only future games.
Re: Review: Chicory: A Colorful Tale - A Masterful Marriage Of Mechanics, Themes And Visuals
Sounds almost too good to be true! And I love that the game length is around the 25hrs, not a 5hr adventure.
Will certainly be purchasing.

When is the last time a title in the Japanese charts was in the 7million range? Not in the 20 years I've been following the charts I think??

Re: Commodore 64 Games Are Being Teased For Nintendo Switch
If they are priced reasonably, C64 games would be great. Many would need keyboard mapping though.
What about Amiga games, and the bitmap brothers?
Re: Commodore 64 Games Are Being Teased For Nintendo Switch
@faint for better or worse, I haven't done any game dev for a few years now. Thanks for the comment though 😊
Re: Commodore 64 Games Are Being Teased For Nintendo Switch
Next, they can release Microbee games. Then finally I can play Nanoc or Timegap-X on a switch. 🤣
Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate Nintendo's 2021?
Terrible year, and anyone giving over a 7 really has no idea.
Disregard all rereleases.
Leaves with Pokemon snap, Warioware, Mario golf, game garage and dread.
We purchased 0 of those, and indeed 0 Nintendo first party titles.
Really lacking that one big release, and they are lucky Sony and Microsoft after still struggling.
No wonder Halo gets a mention on Nintendo Life. .
If this year is a "10", next year will be a "20", just based on Zelda and Bayonetta alone. Genuine, AAA, big budget releases.
I'm not critical of Nintendo, they have done what they need to - I'm critical of the fans voting poorly here.
Thank goodness for 3rd parties, and SMT5.

Re: A Speedrunner Has Already Beat Pokémon Shining Pearl In Just 33 Minutes
So when the game gets patched, is this still valid?
Personally I don't like speed runs where the bulk of the game is "skipped" due to a defect in the game that was not intentional.
