After all of the excitement about games coming to the Switch eShop over the next few months, it's time to settle down for the latest Nintendo Download Update details. It's a relatively quiet week (albeit Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle recently arrived but was listed last week) that includes a few retail options - two of which are due on 5th September) - a rather enjoyable "run 'n punch" game and more besides. Let's get to it.
Switch Retail Download
LEGO Worlds (WB Games, $29.99USD) - A title that is certainly eagerly awaited by some, this takes the fun of LEGO games into a creative sandbox environment. The download version is $29.99USD, but you can also get a physical version at $39.99USD which will include two DLC packs right off the bat. Available from 5th September.
R.B.I. Baseball 17 (MLB Advanced Media, $29.99USD) - Very much the accessible action-focused alternative to PS4 exclusive MLB The Show 17, this offers all of the same official teams and players and various modes. We'll see whether it's a home run or a strikeout in a review. Available from 5th September.
Azure Striker Gunvolt: Striker Pack (Inti Creates, $39.99USD) - A combo offering that includes both original 3DS games and all DLC; enhancements include HD visuals (in some respects), 60fps performance and HD Rumble. Our review will be with you later today.
Switch eShop
League of Evil (Ratalaika Games, $7.99USD) - A retro-styled action game with 140 levels to take on, it also has a level editor for sharing creations and the ability to download community levels from across platforms. It's addictive, fun and brutally challenging, or so we said when giving it a recommendation in our League of Evil review.
Zed Blade (HAMSTER, $7.99USD) - In this frenetic horizontal shmup you have the choice of three craft with different speeds along with customizable weaponry. After your choices have been made it is time to make a trip around our solar system, turning everything that moves on the screen into scrap metal. We'll bring you a review of this ACA release soon.
Wii U eShop
Annihilation (TreeFall Studios, $1.89USD) - A pixel-based top-down shooter in which you try to resist waves of enemies; also includes support for co-op.
As always Nintendo of America wants you to browse the eShop and check out the official sales and deals website for discount details.
Those are your new download options for this week - let us know what you'll be downloading in the poll and comments below.

Mario + Rabbids is all I needed, this will keep me busy until Pokkén drops, and probably past that!
I thought Double Dragon 4 was out this week? Zed Blade maybe all I get this week if I can pry myself away from Kingdom Battle
Not interested in anything this week.
Come on, Stardew Valley. Where art thou?
I can't find any information on Annihilation for Wii U.
I would normally buy Gunvolt, but I've put an order on the Japanese physical copy some time ago. So I will have to wait for it. I'll continue to play Mario + Rabbids in the meantime.
Oh hey, treefall studios. Creators of the WiiU killer app, the letter.
Well I see TreeFall Studios is still around and kicking... Just for giggles, I went on their twitter, and I saw a sideways photo. I just shook my head and closed the window. These guys are a joke, an embarrassment that should have never been allowed to make Wii U games. I'm so happy the Switch is being more cautious.
And the Maze!
Lego Worlds physical version includes 2 DLC? What about the digital version?
Guys being all cute and funny, voting on Annihilation and stuff!
R.B.I. Baseball?! Let's get the VC going and get the old NES R.B.I games!
@MoonKnight7 Is the Switch really being more cautious, though? Have you seen Vroom in the Night Sky?
@crackafreeze kk thank you!
I work for MLB Advanced Media and I can tell you very little effort went into making the game. It should be an easy pass, especially at that price point.
Minecraft: LEGO Edition! ..hope it plays as good as it looks!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE it's from TreeFall, the "developer" that brought us The Letter. All you need to know. Avoid like the plague.
Still waiting for my MarioRabbids pre order to show up. I was excited for Lego World's, until I got a chance to play it. I'll be skipping that one. Waiting for a couple of reviews on RBI...
Nothing on 3ds again for the 2nd week besides the usual sales.
I'm probably going to keep voting "Nothing For Me" until I buy a Switch or something completely amazing is released for Wii U or 3DS.
Just Zed Blade for me,been looking forward to that. That and Mario & Rabbids will keep me busy over the weekend.
@Captain_Toad mmmhm, we have a few big retail games coming over the next few months, basically all remakes, but im very disappointed with the n3ds snes vc support from nintendo. its been basically non existent since its launch of 5 games or whatever
@thesilverbrick
Haha, sure that's a bad one, but have you seen The Letter?
I'm in the minority, but this is a great week for me. Got M+R yesterday, and it exceeds my imagination. Beautiful art and a tactical strategy game with Mario makes it the best surprise of the year for me.
And there are plenty of eShop pickings for me. Oddly, R.B.I. is at the top. I hate sim baseball, but love me arcade style baseball. I'm just waiting for the Neo Geo baseball games now.
Lego Worlds, Zed Blade, and Azure GV are all on my wish list too. There could always be more to release, but I'm stoked for what is available.
I was always gonna get Lego Worlds, but that price point makes me even happier about it.
I'll download Zed Blade, it looks like a solid shmup and the sountrack is also pretty convincing.
With Azure Striker, i'll wait for the physical EU release.
Once again nothing for me. I only have a 3DS right now, since I need a new charger for my Gamepad.
I'll get Lego Worlds at some point just to support the effort of the port, but $40 is a bit pricey. Especially sense PS4 and XBOX1 get it for $30.
I thought I was going to get Azure Striker again but that 40$ price hike...I already have on the 3ds...so I don't need it right now. But I always like a shmup so Zed Blade looks fun.
As I only have a 3DS, nothing.
I'm getting the Striker Pack. Only had the first one on 3DS. I've never played the second one. Now, with nothing between here and September 15th for me, the wait for Samus Returns truly begins!
RBI Baseball only shares the same name as the 8 bit classic. It keeps everything you don't like about old sports games and adds many things you won't want. Better to download a rom hack of the original that has all the current teams and players.
Waiting on Samus Returns and Mario Odyssey. Both game's respective amiibo are paid off too. Beat the Master Trials and I'm just korok hunting on Zelda, and playing Splatoon 2 here and there. Mario Kart as well... annihilated Sonic Mania and Gunvolt Burst. Overplayed them. So I'm just kinda waiting. I'd love Striker Pack, but $40 does seem to be a bit much at the moment. Might as well await a physical release.
@Pokefanmum82 I recommend an USB cable for charging. they're pretty convenient.
(how did my phone auto correct "they're" to "pretend brute"? It never ceases to amaze me)
Not sure why I keep checking this every week, without a Switch it's pointless and to be honest, there is nothing on the Switch that is worth >$300 anyway.
I wonder how Lego Worlds performs. Even on XB1, it can be a few frames short of a slideshow.
Nothing for me. Waiting for the week of the 22nd, which will be expensive. NBA 2K18 (though that'll be on the previous week's download list), Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, Pokemon Gold, and Steamworld Dig 2 all release that week and are definite purchases
Still need to pick up Mario + Rabbids too, but I'm still playing Sonic Mania and haven't beaten Splatoon 2's campaign and Yakuza 0 yet.
After Mario and Rabbids on Tuesday, my wallet and I have agreed to take a break for this week. Lego Worlds looks like it could be fun later on though.
Sadly, Yakuza Kiwami came out for PS4 this week, so all other games and systems cease to exist till I play it thoroughly. Which should engage me through the labor day weekend (edit: Except for the Splatfest, of course. I'm not an ANIMAL.), and THEN I'll finally pick up Mario x Rabbids.
Azure Striker Gunvolt has some interest for me...but I'm passing on League of Evil. Only because they've already gotten my money on iOS in the past, and I don't feel the urge to double-dip on a mobile port.
I'll get gunvolt later... Mario + Rabbids will be in on Saturday.
Very smart of MLB to recognize that the Switch doesn't have a legit baseball game. Is it the greatest baseball game ever? No but Nintendo gamers haven't had a baseball game in quite some time so it fills a sports gap nonetheless. But It's also not the worst baseball game either. I will most likely grab the retail copy! 👍 Now let's see Hamster post Super Baseball 2020 next!
Zed Blade, glorious Zed Blade
@thesilverbrick Perhaps their curation process involves looking at previous output. That same studio put out Kersploosh! on 3ds, which was fun for what it was, and priced at $2.99. Maybe they didn't playtest new games from trusted devs.
Double dipping on Azure Striker Gunvolt is looking less likely for me at $40. I think I paid $18 for the 3DS 2-pack at GameStop...this is more than double.
Booooo.
I've wanted to play Azure Striker series for years! It was a 3ds title I was always jealous of, so I'm very excited to pick up a retail copy
treefall sure knows how to price their games to tempt one with leftover money.
Nothing good this week. Not interested in Indies atm and Mario + Rabbids is a literal joke imo. Skip. I doubt I'll buy anything in September too. October is when the good stuff will come out and when I'll actually buy something. That's when Waifu Emblem and Mario Odyssey come out! Hype for October!
@onex I didn't realize that was the same developer. I actually liked Kersploosh. Fun little game.
just telling myself three weeks until G/S on the virtual console
Guys you need to do review on lego worlds!
Am picking up monster hunter stories next week and one other game....ether binding of isaac or lego worlds...am just waiting for review to decide.
Retro mode in MLB The Show 17 is the way to go if you want an arcade style baseball game that's good. Don't settle for RBI Baseball 17 it's not worth it.
Wow, It is slim pickings for me. The next 2 months will be all 3DS. Monster hunter story, Metroid, Pokemon Gold (maybe), and EV 5. Switch games: Mario Odyssey. I am beginning to think I should not have been an early adopter. Maybe I will pick up an Indie game on the switch. Those NEO Geo games are kind of whatever. That Magician Lord was garbage. It wasn't even close to Ghouls and ghost. It deserves a review score of 2. I love my BOTW, but I am all Zelda out for now.
I don't know if I want Mario and Rabbids with all those good 3DS games coming out.
Pretty sad that there's not a single 3ds release
Wasn't there also supposed to be a Voez demo today?
@N8tiveT3ch
I bought the Striker Pack on 3DS and I'm fairly certain it was the same price as the Switch version
I was excited about the Wii U eshop getting something until I saw who the developer was. Mega hard pass.
@River3636
Perhaps take a look at expanding your horizons.
Mario Kart, Arms and Splatoon 2 are A1. But if that's not your thing, Mario Kingdom Battle is phenomenal, it really is. MHXX is also a must own, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you've played the series before and are familiar with it. Fire Emblem Warriors might be something you enjoy... alot of people liked Hyrule Warriors.
But the golden egg, aside from Mario Odyssey, is Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Oh man... My favorite JRPG series of all time, even more than Final Fantasy or Persona. Idk if you've played Skyrim but that's gonna be a great Switch title. Few various other titles like Nights of Azure 2, Dragon ball Xenoverse 2, FIFA 18 and NBA 2k (of you're into sports- I'm not, at least not since I was a teenager, but FIFA 18 looks great).
Also, keep an eye out for Hollow Knight. Not sure when it releases but, it's extremely highly rated on STEAM. I kickstarted it, and it's like the next Shovel Knight. Only this game is more like Ori and the Blind Forest, which was a masterpiece.
I got MK8, Arms and Splatoon 2. I didn't really play them a lot because of an internet dead zone in my room. They are not my cup of tea save for MK8 but my bro likes them so I co-op, but time is an issue. Hyrule warriors I have over 150 hours of game play so I don't know if I want to go down that rabbit hole for skins and a different story, maybe in a year. MH is not my thing although MHS is a must buy, that demo was amazing.
"Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Oh man... My favorite JRPG series of all time, even more than Final Fantasy or Persona". Great minds think alike on that one.
Maybe I just like a certain game now. I have the shovel knight, Shantia, Sonic, Mighty Gunvolt burst, and all that. I want my JRPGs. That I am Setuna was so boring I didn't even finish it. I just think I have too many options available to me with the 3DS, PS4, and Vita. I love my Switch but it is going in my dock for the next few months. I finished Zelda and I'm all MK8 out. I want to get Mario + Rabbids but those 3DS games next month are fire. It might be a future buy.
nothing for me.
@River3636 If you like 16 bit action, can't go wrong with Blaster Master Zero. Phenomenal remake, it really is, especially with the character DLC.
@onex I have it, beat it, loved it Played it with Shantae.
Time to finally play Gunvolt. Missed out on it on 3DS, so it's great to have another chance to play it.
@River3636 Currently playing through as Shovel Knight ^^
Zed Blade has my attention.
@JaxonH I also kickstarted Hollow Knight and am eagerly waiting for it to come to Switch. Not going to sweat any delay, though, whether for additional work on porting or just trying to find the best release date (i. e. not close to Odyssey); my backlog long ago hit critical mass of must-play games, so I'll play a dozen or so other essential games while I wait.
Attention Nintendo: millions of people still own a 3ds family system. Might want to consider releasing games for it. Just a suggestion!
Zed Blade, aw yissss
$40 for Azure Striker Gunvolt seems pricey for digital - for retail it seems fine. So I'll pass
I'll get Lego Worlds though
@CheezIt MH Stories, Metroid, Pokemon S/G, and Pokemon Ultra SuMo are coming within the next couple months. I WISH those were on Switch! 3DS is still getting quality software
It should also be mentioned that the free demo for VOEZ is now available.
Lego Worlds looks so good but I have Minecraft and rarely play it. I guess I just dont get the Builder/Mining type games. I will probably pass on Lego Worlds but im tempted.
League of Evil had a strong review (8 out of 10) but I think I' done with platform games these days. Steamworld being a notable exception if that can be called a platformer....
