Oh! Never played these games on PS3 so might give this a go if it comes to the west
I've always toyed around the idea of buying one of those games but I've yet to actually go through with it. This just might push me over the edge.
More JRPGs on the Switch? Yes, please, thankyouverymuch.
YES! Another game that would have gone to PS4/Vita a few years back.
Never played one of these games, but I'd absolutely give them a go on the Switch.
Another part of the Switch from Vita! I need to cut down the size of my Vita games🤡
W00t JRPGs!
@readyletsgo It is coming to the west next year.
Whoaaaa....yeah! These games sooo great, for people who've never played them. There's lots of dialog and it's FUNNY, and the gameplay itself is super chill (even though there's usually a loose time limit...not a running clock, mind you, but you have to plan out your travels from town-to-town and into the wilderness).
It would be cool if they also ported the first two games in the "Mysterious" set of games...Atelier Sophie and Atelier Firis. Not that you can't play these games independently (the story connections are usually very loose).
Hmm might try
These games are actually pretty fun!
@Steven_the_2nd woohoo! Lol, sorry, I'm a dope.
Never played these games.
I'll give it a go. I'm still in my exploratory phase where I'm buying pretty much every core game there is so I can see what I like and what I dont.
I tried to get into the Arland Trilogy on the PS3 but I wasn't a fan of the heavy time management nor the overly effeminate tone with regards to the characters that consisted mainly of young girls and deep voiced men. Nothing wrong with that of course, just not adhering to my tastes. Do I dropped it soon afterwards.
Did wonder if the next trilogy would be more to my liking?
@Drac_Mazoku The more recent titles have been more time management / alchemy orientated than the Atelier Iris series, which were a shift to a more adventurous JRPG setting. I preferred those tbh.
@Yorumi
Ya I see a whole truckload of them on Vita and PS3.
Should be good for that Vita audience migrating over to Switch
So it is a game were I have to craft everything...In a world were crafting is shoehorned into most games nowadays that actually kinda interests me. Probably because this game isn't survival.
Do I get to meet the Fullmetal Alchemist?
"which has been running for 20 years, fact fans - "
??
amazing... I played a few of these on my VITA and the Switch is the perfect next step. Day 1, if it comes to the west.
@JaxonH
No need to migrate just yet mate, it's coming to vita, though the op didn't mention that, also these games are mediocre but still worth a play if you like Japanese games, only there are better similar games out there
@EDF
Ya but as a day one Vita owner myself, I feel like I've been ready to move on from the 2012 handheld, just like I've been ready to move on from the 7 year old 3DS.
I think as long as Switch is getting at least some of these types of games Vita is known for, it opens the door for Vita owners to go ahead and upgrade. And while not every Vita game is coming to Switch, the ones that are do have the exclusive handheld appeal of looking as good as the console version, can be played in HD on a larger screen, and can set up in luxurious tabletop mode with detachable controllers, and has a full button set with clickable analogs and dual shoulder buttons (not that games such as this will necessarily make use of them).
One of the things I keep noticing with these smaller Japanese releases is that they aren't coming to Xone. Is this the beginning of the end for Microsoft? Nobody I know is talking about XBone but, EVERYONE is talking about Switch and PS4.
@Yorumi
I never sell my old consoles, or games, but I do move on. Wii U never gets played anymore, 3DS never gets played anymore (Metroid and Monster Hunter Stories aside) and Vita never gets played anymore. Now it's all about Switch, PS4, X1 and occasionally PC.
But right as I move on, I like to mod the system and load my physical collection digitally, and cram as many VC games on as possible. Have a 200gb microSD on 3DS with about 80 retail titles, 70 indies and digital exclusives and 150 of the best SNES, GBA and BS Satellaview games there are, English fan translated games up the wazoo, and since it's all digital I don't need my cart slot, and keep a flashcart in with my entire DS collection. Actually have 12 of the 14 Fire Emblem games on 3DS, in English. Wii U I keep a 512gb SD filled to the last gigabyte with GameCube and Wii games.
And occasionally I may revisit games, but there's only so much time to play, and I'd rather be playing Splatoon 2, Monster Hunter XX, Arms, Zelda, Mario + Rabbids, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Odyssey, Skyrim, DOOM and Xenoblade 2 than anything Vita or 3DS has on deck. And rather play Monster Hunter World, Biomutant, Marvel vs Capcom Infinite, etc than anything Wii U has. There's still great games on Wii U, 3DS and Vita I haven't played but, I'd still rather play new stuff
@Yorumi Yeah makes sense since it the X sells so poorly in Japan but, earlier in the life of the X it was definitely getting more of the localized games the PS4 was getting. Seems as if the support for that and the Vita have moved to Switch.
Every time i see Koei Tecmo i think it's going to be a Warriors style game.
I could have sworn I saw this title pop up a week ago.
Might have been a retail listing on a Japanese webshop or something, not sure.
Let's hope it gets a physical release in the west unlike most Vita entries in the series.
Looks interesting as I guess it an action rpg. Will be looking forward to more information
"Now that's a mouthful" - oh, if only that were the worst this series has had...
@JaxonH
Very true but as a vita owner myself all those points you mentioned don't really matter really, the active vita userbase is more than happy with their lot, that's not to say some won't upgrade to a switch but games that are coming to both machines won't make them want to migrate, well maybe in Japan. I am in a few message groups on vita and most ppl in them have or are going to migrate to the ps4 because it's now getting probably more Japanese games than Vita, yes we have chatted about switch but most of them are not interested, it's going to take a while to get them to move to switch but it does seem like a natural progression but tabletop, hd rumble, detachable joycons etc ain't gonna do it for sure
@EDF
I think some people have loyalty to a certain brand and those people are very unlikely to upgrade to a Nintendo console, but I think people who have no horse in the race will. Not just to play games with detachable controllers (that's just an advantage for the games on both system) but because of the better handheld experience overall, the Nintendo exclusives which Vita never got, the console quality 3rd party games Vita never got, the cheaper memory, etc.
I wouldn't take the anecdotal evidence of just your friends to suggest that Vita owners at large aren't interested, because I've spoken to several on this very site who have already upgraded. Vita wasn't originally just a niche game machine. A lot of the people who bought one (myself included) wanted more out of the system and are seeing Switch fulfill the potential they saw in Vita all those years ago. Most people looking into PS4 do so simply because it's got a lot of games and it's in it's prime right now. But that's not necessarily an upgrade for handheld gamers. That's just an additional console. People who bought Vita did so because they wanted a handheld experience (particularly, a console quality handheld experience) and right now, Switch is getting all the games, and not only offers them as a handheld experience the likes of which has never been seen, but as a console as well. I'm very confident most Vita owners will slowly migrate over to the Switch, aside from those with certain loyalties elsewhere. It's the best portable gaming device we've ever seen, and the amount of insanely good exclusive titles is piling up faster than any console in recent memory. With Japanese Vita sales finally dropping off, the install base is now contained, and as more and more people in Japan move over to Switch (the one country keeping niche software support alive) less and less will buy games for Vita... and well, you know how the rest goes.
Still not sure how to approach this series in terms of binge play (Salburg and Gramnad arcs are stuck in Japan even after the former's avalanche of ports; Iris arc is stuck on PS2; basically, before Arland, all the options are the first Mana Khemia on PSP and a gaiden-esque Atelier Annie on DS), but I'm QUITE interested in it - and this new game will go to my Switch wishlist despite a Vita ve- uh, never even mind, that one's apparently not leaving Japan anyway. In the light of several recent cases like Blue Reflection, there's no telling if it would have come westward even without the Switch in the picture...
It hasn't even had it's first holiday season and the Switch has already gotten/or is about to get most of the games I wanted to be on the system.
Excellent news. This is one of very few franchises that I would have considered if I had ever owned a Sony system. They're such lovely looking games.
It's strange that they are only now bringing these to a Nintendo system. The trailer even points out that this entry marks the "wondrous conclusion" of a trilogy. I wouldn't even know where to look for the first two titles given how oddly named the Atelier games are.
As long as there's a physical release, I'm in.
@JaxonH
Yes mate good reply, like I said hardcore vita fans or those chasing niche games won't jump ship just yet but obviously like you said many have that want the latest handheld and rightly so, nothing wrong with owning both machines or maybe even trade the old one but while games are still been made many won't budge. Many vita owners won't buy a switch just because it has latest mario etc, many bought a vita because Nintendo games don't do it for them anymore, many would have bought a 3ds but choose vita instead even though it had some great games outside the Nintendo fold.. Anyways mate what 3rd party support on switch, i ain't seen anything but ports of old games or indie that you can get on any other machine or poor versions like NBA or, it's great that it's getting games like Doom and fifa etc but all of them have been compromised in one form or another, switch ain't getting the full console quality experience that others are getting on their machines, the scenario you describe for 3rd party doesn't exist on switch and probably never will, it ain't got the guts for it, that's not to say these games are not welcome cause they are, i also think switch is great apart from all the gimmick stuff like joycons, for me personally i would prefer it if it was smaller for portability, in the pocket, but that's just a minor gripe. Ah the memory issue, yes for vita it was bad but same will happen for switch, you need a huge one like 100 gig upwards, 400 for you, it ain't cheap and with many games been a fair size for digital release only those micro cards will full up and yes all switch owners will have to buy more unless you swap out games, tbh that scenario makes it more expensive than Vita memory where most games are less than a gig digitally, not that it matters, if you have money
@EDF
It is mostly ports for 3rd party games, but Vita was no different. Most games nowadays are ported and remastered and ported again. Judging by sales of these games (on all platforms) most people don't care- they just like good games, and in Switch's case people actually have incentive to buy a game either they never played and it's a new game for them, or they did play but now want it portably. Vita sold itself as a "console experience on the go" but the few AAA franchise games it got were rebuilt for handheld and ran horribly, and/or weren't that good.
I think criticisms can be leveled at games "not matching other consoles" to be console quality but at the end of the day they're close. Real close. Far beyond anything we ever got on Vita or 3DS. NBA 2k18 is by far the best portable basketball game ever released. And while sure, one could say framerate and resolution are toned down in games like DOOM or whatever, the fact is that's small potatoes. I think most people look at these games and they see full console quality games. After all, they're console games ported from console, as opposed to rebuilt for handheld or ported from handheld. Games that we'd never have seen on 3DS or Vita without a totally separate, cell shaded version. And other games like Disgaea 5 and Lego City Undercover and Dragonball Xenoverse 2, etc etc look spot on.
As for memcards, it will be more expensive for me, but I'll fit 5x as many games on. I filled up my $100 32gb on Vita within 2 years, had to import a 64gb (which price had dropped to $100 by then). And even to this day I have enough games I had to delete half of them cause I couldn't fit em all. And eventually just stopped buying games for it. An equivalent $100 on Switch will get 256gb (now that 400gb are out, prices are falling on 256). And the 32gb on board helps. Vita had none. I mean obviously any time you have a portable system, memory costs will factor in. But having access to normal microSD is a huge advantage. It still costs money, but it's definitely preferred to unnecessarily paying more for proprietary. Some games are much bigger, but the upside is that's because games look far better. Pretty much like PS4/X1 versions which is impressive.
I get what you mean about being smaller. But I will say, I scratched my first Vita carrying in pocket to work and only used a case afterward. So I use a case for Switch now, wirh a handle, and it's surprisingly easy to take with everywhere.
At the end of the day, I think alot of gamers got turned off from Nintendo games in Wii/Wii U era. But their 1st party is on point on Switch. It really is. Stuff like Zelda and Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey, Fire Emblem and Metroid Prime and Xenoblade 2 and Pokemon... I think anyone would love these games (Vita owners included). But maybe you're right and some aren't drawn to their first party. If so I think that's a shame and they're missing out. Time for people to come around again and see what they're like nowadays. I think most people would fall in love. That's how I became a fan of Nintendo as an adult.
I think if these games were on Vita under a different publisher's name, and looked as good as on Switch, people would be all over them. People buy Sly Cooper and Jak and Dexter and Ratchet and Clank games on Vita. Yet aren't interested in Mario Odyssey? That makes no sense to me- as someone who plays all games, Mario is consistently the best platformer on the market and Odyssey looks like it could rival Zelda for GotY. Alot of that, in honesty, has to do with brand loyalty. Same reason Nintendo fans don't buy PS4 despite how many great games it has.
@JaxonH
Very valid and interesting points, let's not talk about jak&daxter on vita, it was a tragedy of a lazy port. Hmm i compared videos of dragon quest heroes 2 on vita, switch and ps4 and yes the switch version looked better than Vita but the ps4 version was seriously better than the switch version, far superior detail, guess i am saying, switch ain't getting the console quality ports but certainly getting a console experience, the games just don't reach that next level ps4 xone quality just like vita with PS360 games that came out on it, vita and switch are singing the same song when you compare that scenario. Saying that, that doesn't mean the games aren't playable or enjoyable because most games are unless they become a tragedy like jak&day and nba2k on switch, that's right i can't agree with you on this version been best handheld version ever, it's broken, audio sound is some of the worst ever in a modern game, even to the point it skips words altogether, framerate is hmm BAD, for me psp version is still best handheld version. Have to agree if mario plus some of nintendo's other franchises were on vita, then yes ppl would buy them, like FE, PRIME, XENO, not so sure with all their franchises like Kirby, Yoshi but same the otherwise, Tearaway, LBP, uncharted, killzone and maybe Wipeout, shame one machine fits all isn't in place, for me it ain't to bad, i have 2 vita's, one normal the other with Henkaku hack, so yeah I have Nintendo games on vita like Zelda OOT, GOLDENEYE, mkart 64 plus many others from past machines, even great MAME games. I also have a 3ds and Wii u. Not sure if ppl were put off Nintendo during wii, Wii u era, afterall their handhelds still sell loads, yep wii u failed just like my Vita friend but both machines were a massive success when you look at the games, both machines were responsible for new ip been born, that can't be a bad thing, like Splatoon, mario maker, even toad got his own game, vita Tearaway, Gravity Rush, unit 13, soul sacrifice and freedom wars, some of these games went on to spawn newer versions for both machines, so i take my hat kff to them. Switch will sell lots, but I don't care for sales, it's the games and yes switch and vita have many to come, when it slows down for vita then vita hardcore userbase may look to the switch but most will be happy playing a back catalogue of games or playing ps4 or remoteplay to the vita, many in our message groups are already doing this, for me only prime i would want on switch with the games that have been announced, probably xeno aswell, but that's it really. For many vita owners the power of remoteplay can't be underestimated, they have a constant supply of AAA titles, though it's not best way to play these games, it works and that's one of main reasons they won't jump to switch, that's if they were even considering it in the first place which I doubt it
@EDF
DQ Heroes is probably the one Switch release that was based off an upscaled Vita version as opposed to doenacaled Ps4 version. Definitely the exception rather than the rule. DQ Builders, you can definitely tell it's based off the PS4 version. DQ Heroes was a lazy port with framerate dropping to single digits and never staying stable beyond 20fps. Bad Switch game all around. Pretty much every other port has been console versions. So I don't think it's comparable to Vita. 95% of the games ported look identical to and are ports of the PS4 games, just with a lower framerate or resolution in some cases (in some cases, full parity). Vita was always distincty, separately built handheld versions of everything. I enjoyed the games DON'T get me wrong. But they were never console version games. Most Switch releases are. Just the difference between PS4 to X1 (so 1080p drops to 900p) is the same difference between X1 and Switch (so 900p drops to 700p). For super demanding games maybe some other small compromises too.
It would be akin to Vita running Uncharted 3 or The Last of Us or LA Noire or Skyrim original. All PS3 games... Which it could never come close to doing.
I can't stand remote play tbh. It's way too laggy and requires internet connection and runs in 360p. It's just... a good idea but not so good in practice. I used it for Persona 5 but just couldn't keep doing it.
Like right now I'm at work, playing Dragonball Xenoverse 2. Looks just like the PS4 version (resolution downscaled aside). I was watching Skyrim footage and it looks identical to my Remastered Version on Xbox One. Current gen releases on a handheld is what I always wanted.
I think we already see people migrating over. Maybe one day your friends will too. In the meantime though, I'll be welcoming any and all who make the transition. Theres new current gen games being announced for Switch on almost a daily basis now it seems (Attack on Titan PS4 version is coming to Switch, another Vita game that can now be played on Switch but as a console version). Think that makes it easier for people to migrate over. Cause the games they're getting, many of them will be on Switch for them but as console versions, but it's also getting tons of new exclusive games and ports of current gen PS4/X1 releases that could never run on Vita.
I'm loving the system. Best console I've ever owned. And it brings me joy seeing other people turned on to that experience. The more the merrier
Looks like it could be fun but I’d rather get super Mario Odyssey.
Looks interesting, I'll bite
@JaxonH I was going to buy a vita recently but all the games I wanted keep showing up on switch (promised) with less than stellar reviews on the vita versions.
