Re: Video: The Unsung Heroes of the Nintendo Switch eShop

@Ludovsky
Exactly. I know that the Switch is getting a ton of games released each week, but good titles are easily overlooked when people don't know that they are good.

Back in the Wii days the 'game' site IGN gave up reviewing WiiWare titles and just had a round up each week with a good/bad rating for each. Now that was because IGN were too lazy to review 3 or 4 games a week (let alone 20 something), but it could work for the mass of Switch releases each week.

Or maybe a seperate readers reviews section (not just forum posts) where we could put short reviews of games that the site isn't reviewing.

No EA are lazy. Matchmaking has been possible on any system since online play started and other devs manage fine on the Switch. If a dev like Shinen can do it with a team of about 5 guys, then there's no reason EA couldn't with their vast resources.

The other modes weren't left out because they were impossible on Switch, again it was just EA were lazy. They didn't even say it was due to technical difficulties, just that having too many modes would be overwhelming for Switch owners (like we've never played games before) so they kept it bare bones so as not to confuse us.

The truth is that they rushed '18 out with as little effort as possible and now that it has proved to be a viable seller they are putting a little bit more effort in.

Re: Video: Let's Revel in Nintendo's Best E3 Moments from History

2010 was the best show for me. Nintendo came out swinging with Skyward Sword and just carried on from there. Metroid, Kirby, Resident Evil, Star Fox, Smash Bros, Mario, the games just kept on coming. They were firing them out everywhere, then boom here's Goldeneye, boooom Donkey Kong Country Returns, boooom Kid Icarus Uprising. Oh and then finish off with 3DS demo units brought out right there and then attached to models. All told I think there was over 50 games shown for Wii and 3DS.

Nintendo didn't just 'win' e3 that year, they completely dominated it

Re: FIFA's Rival Pro Evolution Soccer Takes Another Hit With Loss Of Dortmund License

I always preferred PES over FIFA as it played faster and seemed less scripted.

My favorites were ISS64, as it had no 'special moves' so any skills were of your own invention (I used to do a flick up, spin and volley move that was really cool). Then PES on the Wii brought in a fantastic strategy element with off the ball runs and a real control of the team.

Since then it's been restricted to PS/Xbox (skipping the Wii U that could have been a source for another innovation) and degenerated into more of a FIFA clone. Where as it used to have the better gameplay despite lacking licenses it now has neither.

Everyone saying they want Skyward Sword with traditional controls, well they may as well just make a new game as many of the dungeons/enemies are based on motion attacks. To change them to analogue would either mean totally reworking the dungeons/enemies or just automating the attacks, which would remove the puzzle elements completely and make it more like a basic version of Hyrule Warriors. If it was dumbed down like that then I'd definitely pass on it.

I just hope to see Fire Emblem, a look at MP4 and a glimpse of Bayonetta 3. Everything else is a bonus.

Yoshi's Flipping Island is hilarious. If that was the title I'd have to buy it for that alone.

The list isn't so bad, except for F Zero as Nintendo have said it is a dead franchise and I don't think that Platinum have ever made a racing game. The poor formatting, spelling mistakes and lack of Bayonetta 3 make it an instant fail though.

I get the Western 3rd party concerns. I expect the usual late rushed ports that nobody wants, that are lacking features and priced too high. Then when they don't sell they'll say that their games just don't sell on Nintendo systems.

Luckily for me I'm not too concerned about Western games as there isn't much released nowadays that interests me. Red Dead Redemption 2 and Spiderman are the only Western games on my radar; everything else seems to be battle royale based or just dull. I'm hoping that the Avengers game makes an appearance though and is something good. I don't expect many surprises from Sony but any games at all would be a surprise from Microsoft right now.

Maybe we'll get lucky and get a couple of decent Switch 3rd party exclusives, something like Mario + Rabbids. Bethesda have been a good supporter so maybe we'll see something new from them.

My most wanted Switch games are Bayonetta 3, Metroid Prime 4 and Fire Emblem; so as long as they are shown (or dated) then I'm good and anything else is a bonus.

3rd party support should be improving as the Switch has proved to be a success. A year isn't long in a life cycle, the XBO/PS4 were full of old ports at the same point and only started getting new games in their second years.

Nintendo always has the potential to surprise as they often have shorter reveal/release times for all except the biggest titles (Zelda, Mario, Metroid). A game can be unknown but release 6 months to a year after the reveal, unlike Sony who get hype by announcing games that won't release until about 4 years later.

Its good to keep expectations low as to not be disappointed, but I wouldn't write it off just yet.

Re: Soapbox: Let's Give Nintendo Switch Online A Chance Before We Throw It To The Wolves

CaPPa

Given the choice between paying $20 or $50 and getting either a couple of NES games to play or some current/last gen games I'd probably go for the $20 option. I have lots of games on the XBO from the Gold service but I could count the number I actually bother playing on one hand. Even less so on PS+ as we don't even bother downloading them (as PS4 storage sucked). All those services do is stop me buying Indies (as they'll probably be 'free' In a couple of months).

Discounts are an advantage of a subscription (although I've been stung on Xbox buying games that were then given away 'free' the next week). Nintendo mentioned discounts but didn't go into any detail, but if the Nintendo Online service gave a discount on buying any game or even just increased sale percentages (like XBO) then that would make it worth it alone.

As for no VC, well it sucks. Makes the Wii U worth owning though.

Re: Video: Here Are 10 New Switch Games Coming To Nintendo Switch In May

CaPPa

My May is fairly packed with Football Manager and Manticore bought so far. Then the Street 30th Anniversary Collection, Hyper Sentinel and the Framed Collection round out the month.

As for all the Wii U talk, it didn't sell well but I loved mine. The GamePad was awesome and it saw a lot more play time than the XBO/PS4 due to the more fun family friendly games (the kids are still playing Super Mario 3D World and Mario Kart 8). The complete Wii backwards compatibility and huge Wii/Wii U virtual console library made it a console that was like a compendium of the best Nintendo games. All of that makes it one of my favorite systems that I've owned.

Re: Review: Hyper Sentinel (Switch eShop)

CaPPa

Andrew Braybrook was awesome in the 80s and his games were fantastic. I actually preferred his previous game Paradroid (one of my favorite games of all time) as it had a slower paced more methodical approach, but Uridium was an all out shooter and one of the best around.

I didn't know that Hyper Sentinel was a spiritual successor to Uridium but now it's a must buy for me.
