The weekend is here, so we've got a lovely Talking Point to get that much-needed break going. Team Nintendo Life has plenty of titles on its collective 'to-do' list, with everything from sports sims and paint-addled shooters to music creation suites and vibrant RPGs. We're an eclectic bunch. Be sure to leave a vote in the poll if anything takes your fancy, and a leave a comment with your hot picks. Have a great weekend!

It's Bank Holiday Weekend here in the UK, so I'll be spending that smidgen of extra time playing KORG Gadget for our official review (look out for it next week on Nintendo Life). I'll be delving back into my days of studying Music Tech at college as I create the world's most pitiful attempts at chiptune magic.
I've also been playing a lot of FIFA 18 recently (I needed a break from NBA 2K18), so I'll no doubt be giving Arsenal an actual fighting chance of winning something this year. Because the real-life team certainly has n chance. The sad life of a Gooner, eh?
Alex Olney, video producer
I'm stuck on my own for most of this weekend, so I suppose I'll probably be doing more Splatoon 2 than anything else. Might dip my toe into a smidge of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze as well, but a lot of what I'm doing will be beholden to whether or not I'm able to brew properly. Some of you may not know this, but I've started brewing my own beer, largely as a way to have a hobby that isn't also my job. That last part is unrelated but I had to pad this out somehow didn't I?

I dunno why but I’ve been investing some time into Destiny 2 the past week, but immediately hit a wall after the campaign and DLC. So forget Destiny – it’s back to Splatoon 2 and Lost Sphear for me. I won’t have a lot of time to stare at my Switch though – or any screen for that matter – so it’s a good thing I got myself a Pokémon GO Plus. I’ve resisted it for as long as I could but my phone battery’s taking too much of a hit from walking around staring at it every time it vibrates, so it will be a godsend to just tap a button on my wrist instead.

Aside from meeting up with my small but wonderful Splatoon 2 community that I've managed to round up in my dedicated Discord channel for some Splatfest carnage, I'll be sitting down and getting cosy to review Animal Super Squad for you lovely bunch. The game comes from the (master?)minds behind Goat Simulator so it should be a decent little gem to experience. Oh, and I'll be playing a video game where the main bloke shouts "BOY!" if I get a moment to spare.

This weekend sees the start of the Splatoon 2 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Splatfest tournament so this is a perfect opportunity to grind for lots of juicy gear ability chunks. I hope to take part in all three rounds over the coming weeks, hopefully giving myself the best chance of getting the abilities I need for my playstyle.
This weekend also sees the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on Switch, which launched itself right towards the top of my all-time favourite game list when it arrived on Wii U a few years back. If I get a chance, I’ll be booting up this wonderful thing of beauty for a second time over the next few days – and you should definitely do the same!

Busy weekend with both ARMS Party Crash event and the Splatoon 2 Splatfest Tournament on the menu. Not sure if the later is really a contest at all since everyone knows Raphael is the best turtle (shut up, Mikey!). I will also be checking out Gear.Club Unlimited's new camera and free new cars update, pretend to have time to go back to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Ah! Nope!) and play the brand new Funky Kong Country: Tropical Freeze because despite managing to make my way to the final world on the previous hardware generation, I kinda forgot to complete it…

And South Park
Surely everyone is playing tropical freeze
For the umpteenth weekend in a row, I'll be trying to squeeze in a few more hours of Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I kind of expect to hit 200 hours by the time I'm done, at this rate. I like the idea of taking part in a Splatfest for the first time too - but Donatello isn't up till next weekend.
@alexolney, I also made homebrewing beer a hobby once, but had to give it up when I started turning up for work half cut. Good luck with it though, there's nothing more rewarding then being tanked up for about 80pence
1. Portal Knights Switch
Keep building my little town at Vacant Crystal island.
2. ARMS
Party Crash Event. Wanna get Shiny Springman badge.
3. Hi Hamtaro ! Ham Ham Challenge NDS
Well, a little time for Cute Hamtaro game.
4. Dance Dance Revolution MAX 2 & X2 Arcade
My Ritual every Sunday at my local Game Arcade center.
I don't have much time to play games at the moment with exams coming up, but I might be able to find an hour or two to play more Super Mario Odyssey, which is utterly delightful. I'm up to the Luncheon Kingdom now, and I just love this game the more I play it! The capture system is an incredible mechanism, it's constantly surprising me, and I really never want this game to end!
@BranJ0
Eh, do you a Test for upcoming days ?
Well, good luck.
I'll be playing in a burping contest in several of my local libraries.
I am not playing any games this weekend. I am going to the Everglades and being one with nature. Sometimes you just have to go outside and see the beauty of this planet and have the sun shining on your face.
I’m going outside....to play more Switch 😉
But most of all god of war.
Splatoon 2 maybe
And
Lovely British weather
Finished LA Noire last night.
Ill be playing the Splatfest and ARMS Party Crash, finish up Flashback Remake and some more Bayonetta.
DOOM and Pinball FX. I'm Marty Flan on the Nintendo Life leaderboard and I'm pretty sh!te, thanks. Won £20 Nintendo eShop credit courtesy of Nintendo UK's ongoing Player's Voice competition, look out for my DOOM writeup on Switch News and the website from next week! So I may download Celeste, anyone any other recommendations? Have a great weekend everyone.
Grabbed Aegis Defenders on sale, lovely game. Glad they released a demo. Picked Pinball FX 3 back up, truly runs great after the patch. Probably will check out the Gear Club update, and do some runs in Sky Rogue and Immortal Redneck.
FIFA 18. Hard.
Steamworld Heist, Mario + Rabbids, WWE 2K18 and Pinball FX3.
God of War. Goty so far
Loving the copy/paste effort Alex puts into these. I guess...
Enjoying FIFA atm
Splatoon 2 for the Splatfest and Tropical Freeze.
Liberation day today in Netherlands so will go out to one of the festivals today and i’ll be hitting the beach tomorrow. My son is playing DKCTF now and i am all into XC2 since I finally picked it up last week. If i find some time i’ll continue in DQ builders (starting chapter 3) or do some splatoon 2
Donkey Kong Country:
Tropical Freeze, Donkey Kong Country:
Tropical Freeze and Donkey Kong Country:
Tropical Freeze.
It'll be a quiet weekend so I'll be going to play some Splatfest time and Skies of Fury DX.
DKC Tropical Freeze.
Everything else has now faded from my peripheral.
And Funky Mode time trials are glorious... Already hitting some top 50 global times.
Just finished Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (what a game!) and I'll wait for the new story DLC before I go on with new game+. So this weekend I started a new RPG, Earthlock, Festival of Magic which I kickstarted (cause it's from a Norwegian developer I have faith in) and recently got my Switch code. Looks interesting so far... And then I'll join the Splatfest and try promote further in FIFA18 with my Ultimate team in online divisions.
I'll be playing with the Labo Variety Kit. I've been waiting for the weekend so I finally have enough time off work to cocentrate on what I want to make
Hoping to get closer to completion in Kirby Star Allies and Riptide Renegade GP, the latter of which has hit a wall in difficulty i’m not sure i’ll be able to overcome....
Didn’t know there was an update for gear club. Great stuff. I will check that out too. The camera angle sounds good. Much needed.
Also playing Donkey Kong - superb game
I’ll be giving the updated Pinball FX a whirl, so I may as well embarrass myself in the NLife tournament if I have time.
It’s also the Turtles Splatfest, not a fan of them but my boy will be excited to have guaranteed blue paint.
Is it the ARMS Party Crash this weekend too? Usually I’d love them but I can’t be bothered if it’s a Ninjara one as it’ll be filled with tedious spam grabbers.
Probably the Splatfest (which I'd forgotten about) and DKC: TF on the Wii U for me. Need to try and beat the Autumn Heights boss - any help would be appreciated!
So far, i've played some <b>Dragon Blaze</b>, which is simply amazing, some L.F.O. Lost Future Omega, which is pretty cool as a cheap Rez/Child of Eden-like music shooter experience, and Sine Mora EX which i picked up when i saw a cheap physical copy (despite not being a huge fan... it's a mixed bag for me).
Having a blast with south park (my expectations were actually low but the game is freakin awesome, 25hr in an keeps on giving). The copy of DK arrives on Tuesday and I am tented to get Naruto to start on Monday...
@JoeDiddley
"Is it the ARMS Party Crash this weekend too? Usually I’d love them but I can’t be bothered if it’s a Ninjara one as it’ll be filled with tedious spam grabbers."
Yes, indeed.
Until 6 May 2018.
Don't worry with Spam Grabber Ninjaras.
Counter them with Hammer or Revolt.
And jumping around oftenly.
Splatfest! Of which @Shiryu is on my team lol. As our other teammates chose Leo, the map will be swiftly painted blue whilst we end up with little red splats as we merrily splat those irritating Neo Clash Blasters. Yeah!
@Anti-Matter Thank you!
Donkey Kong and South Park.... If I can wrestle the system away from my kids who will want to play Labo.
Probably either some Odyssey, BoTW or Golf Story if I get some time!
Super Mario World on the SNES classic for me. I finally found a way to get sound out of it
@datamonkey Just curious, how far are you in Golf Story?
Enter the Gungeon for me.
I recommend any platformer fans out there to support Tropical Freeze. I have it on the Wii U and it is by far one of the best platformers ever made.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and good amount of Neo Geo games. Magical Drop 3, King of Fighters 98, 00, Real Bout Fatal Fury, Last Blade. Persona 5, and Street Fighter V for PS4.
None of the above again.
Breath of the Wild (6 shrines left)
(naughty) VB Wario Land
Animal super squad, Goetia, sky Rouge, tumble stone, BAFL, gunhouse
I have two exams this week so I won't have much time
But I'll have plenty of time next week once they're over!
Playing Tropical Freeze on Switch. Had to switch to Funky Kong on island 3. Makes the game a lot more enjoyable to me! This game is muuuuch tougher than the SNES trilogy.
Tropical Freeze and probably Football Manager as usual.
Finishing God of War. Great bang for the buck - totally got my money's worth
I'm finishing the Breath of the Wild DLC while bouncing back and forth between Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Rocket League.
I'm finally nearing the end of Trails in the Sky--and what a fantastic journey it's been!--so that's my main gaming priority this weekend. But, I'll also be trying to get un-lost in Super Metroid, after confusing myself post-Kraid, might dive back into the first Ni No Kuni today, since I have the day off, and hope to get to the famous opera scene in FFVI sometime as well.
@Dom "I'll be delving back into my days of studying Music Tech at college as I create the world's most pitiful attempts at chiptune magic."
Please don't confuse a legitimate synthesizer that just happens to be on a video game system for chiptunes. Not that I have anything against chiptunes (well, maybe a little), I just love KORG.
@AlexOlney How DARE you talk about anything unrelated to video games?? Just kidding, I love your padding.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record every week: Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I'm on the final chapter now, so hopefully I'll wrap it up over the next few days!
I got the 20 percent off deal through Amazon on DKCTF (making me feel like my purchase was justified), so I’m currently entirely absorbed in that game all over again. It’s such a masterpiece. And when I’m on the go, I’ll be working my way through the Kirby series in random order on 3DS. I finished Star Allies, Squeak Squad and Triple Deluxe, so now I’m playing Dream Land 2 on Virtual Console. I rather like bouncing around through the series in no particular order.
Working on the second play-through of Oxenfree to get the full story.
@kurtasbestos I'll make a chiptune just for you.
I can't focus on anything too mentally demanding at the moment, so just jumping into some hack-and-slash-type games now and then:
Wulverblade
Sengoku 3
Earth Wars
Furi (on Furier difficulty)
(and will pick up Raging Justice on Tuesday)
Timesplitters, Yugioh, and Soul Calibur 3.
and quake on PS2. but i've heard mixed things about it. so, i don't know what to expect.
Team Leo <3
I'll be trying to finish Mario and Rabbids. Having said that, the sun is out and as it's been an absent friend for the majority of the year so far, we'll be off to the park to enjoy it while we can. It's been a grey, wet and miserable winter and spring!
Windows Phone:
Jetpack Joyride
Make It Rain: The Love of Money
Ridiculous Marathon
Switch:
Rocket League - Playing at night in rotation with Black Ops II.
Wii U:
Call of Duty: Black Ops II - Been playing Hardcore TDM lately since people are playing it again.
Windows 10:
Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition - Building a world with my daughter who is playing the crappy phone version.
I'm playing Arms and Splatoon 2 as well. GO SPRING MAN/LEO
@KryptoKrunch
I'm thinking about getting WWE. Is it better with the patches
Mario Kart 8 deluxe, and DKCTF or South Park depending on which one I buy. Any suggestions ?
I never owned a DS of any type, and I got a 3DS only a couple of years ago (and still haven't bought many games for it). So I have a lot of games to catch up on. This weekend it's Super Mario 3D Land.
Oh, and ROCKET LEAGUE.
Pinball FX3, as I'm partaking in the NL tournament. My name is Rogue in the leaderboard.
I hope to get some Mario Odyssey in as well and I picked up Saturday morning RPG, which I wanted to stream this morning, but got up too late lol.
Since I put all the latest cfw stuff on my vita, the switch has gone largely unused. Currently grinding away them digimans in Cyber Sleuth.
Cya
Raziel-chan
I have a lazy Saturday and a fairly busy Sunday, so most of my gaming today will likely consist of more Chrono Trigger. I could technically head to the endgame at this point, but I've caught wind that it would be to my benefit to do the hinted sidequests; I've been hunting those down and hope to be finished with the game in a few days. Definitely one of the better RPGs I've played.
Twilight Princess HD has taken a backseat to the above until I'm finished, but I still might pick it up for an hour or two this weekend.
I am playing the 'beginning of Spring Cleaning' Hard level.
There's a Splatfest AND a Party Crash in the same weekend?! I'm it gonna have much time for either because I have a buttload of homework! 😂 Other than Splatoon 2 and ARMS, I may squeeze in some Kirby Star Allies. Such a fun, albeit short, game!
Oh, AND I'm going to see the new Avengers movie today!
I almost forgot!! Everyone have a safe, fun, blessed weekend and a spectacular rest of your day! 😊
Just finished college! Gonna celebrate with some Tropical Freeze and Steredenn Binary Stars! I seriously love Steredenn. I recently unlocked the fourth and fifth ships, and they are super fun to use!
I also started God of War because my brother wanted to see it, but before I go any further I'm probably gonna go play the previous games first.
Finished Xenoblade 2 and The Mummy Demastered yesterday and started Wonder Boy. Wanted to buy Tropical Freeze but been expensive month and just bought a copy of Legend of Mana for PS1.
Dad of Boy, AKA God of War.
Splatoon 2 and maybe more of South Park for me
Ended up caving in and bought donkey Kong on switch and it’s pretty awesome so far I love how hard, yet fair it seems to be. Other then that probably some Xenoblade 2.
DKTF is absolutely amazing on Switch... the HD fur combined with HD rumble is BODACIOUS!
Oh yeah! Splatfest! Ninja Turtles with the designs I dislike... tried participating in the Brawlout tournament but I kept being pulled into work. I was fortunate enough to get the snorkel, rubber ducky, and level codes though. May try to work on the Sakura set on Monster Hunter World... a game which I’ve made most the armor sets, farmed Taroth too much, and clocked over 300 hours. I’m really, REALLY, ready for MHXX and fight different beasties with my adept playstyle. Noodled around on Shovel Knight this morning... have a fun and blessed weekend everyone! Gonna be at work tonight wishing I was drawing or practicing animation instead.
@SimplyCinnamon53 On the third course. I've been very on/off playing it though and have forgotten what I'm supposed to be doing!
How bout you?
@sandman89 Maybe 4 years ago everyone would be playing Tropical Freeze.
Donkey kong.im at boss 3 now.cant beat him.but i wont give up
Well it's finals week, so it's much more likely that I will be doing more reading than playing. Sigh...but come next weekend, Dragon Quest V, Celeste B Sides, BotW DLC, and SNES Classic shall await me!
Southpark, Donkey kong and fortnite.
I am playing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on Wii U and DiRT Rally on pc, and then maybe some Fortnite as filler.
Switch - Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
PS4 - God of War
@Rekiotsu oh yes racked up 1500 hrs on MH3U wish they would port that to switch.
Gonna try and juggle arms and splat tourneys
Gotta rep #TeamLeo in the TMNT Splatfest!
After that, we're going with an old-school update to a classic shmup in this week's NL High Score Challenge, Galaga '88, from the Namco Museum for Switch.
I'm still on The Road to Kingdom Hearts III: Platinum Trophy Quest. I finished Terra and Ventus's story on Critical, and completed their reports in KH: Birth by Sleep. Aqua shouldn't take too much longer, but I'm getting married next week, so I'm gonna try to wrap it up before then. After that, well, me and my wife will start playing Hyrule Warriors together!
A lot of Leo v. Leo friendly fire in Splatfest (I'm guessing it was about a 70/30 split for Leo) some Tropical Freeze (1st time playing, takes some time to get used to the physics) and maybe some post game content of BOY!
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, forgot how frustrating it was first time round.
Finally got myself Mario Kart 8 deluxe, so we’ve been playing together with my wife)
@datamonkey If you press the + button I think it shows a wheel of things you can select and one of them is a note book that has you’re objectives in it I think. I’m on the last course, and I’m also stuck because it’s so dang hard!
Earthlock (should finish)
Tropical Freeze
Paper Jam
Playing Pokémon Crystal and Ultra Moon & Sun. Maybe some Stella Glow too.
I bought Animal Super Squad. Not the type of game you play hours on end, but it's pretty fun and a perfect way to kill some time. Other than that game, I'm playing Life is Strange on PS4
Fire Emblem Blazing Blade
God of War, Darkest Dungeon, Spirit of Justice.
Either FE: Shadows of Valentia (which I still have yet to start) or Stella Glow (which I haven't touched in awhile).
May also play some EO V.
Splatoon 2 and maybe Labo.
Funny that even NL staff isn’t playing Labo anymore. I definitely have buyer’s remorse. Should have gotten DK instead... I’d return it but I was dumb and opened it.
I also finally got a pro controller so now I have enough controllers (that aren’t too tiny for my man hands) to play 2-player with friends. MK8 and Rayman most likely.
I finally beat DOOM last night, so I've got Bayonetta, South Park: TFBW, and good old Pokemon Blue on the docket next.
Splatfest in Splatoon 2!
@KayFiOS I wish you and your lovely bride-to-be many years of wedded bliss! Congratulations!!!
I'm playing 10 yard Fight and Punch-Out!!
This weekend I'm continuing to feed my Football Manager addiction. I'm going for back to back promotion, which will be quite incredible as I've only had a 300k budget.
Nothing, finished god of bore... now I'm free until hyrule.
Still playing Golf Story! Love my humorous adventures!
I'm still finishing up Guest Star Mode with all characters of Kirby Star Allies. Got 6 more characters to go.
Hopefully after that I'll jump back into Saturday Morning RPG or Atelier Lydie & Suelle.
...but wait, Hyrule Warriors Switch is just up ahead! Dang, I need help...
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze and God of War!
Splatoon 2
Rocket League
Skyrim
Pinball FX3
South Park
@KayFiOS wow what date is your Wedding? It's my first Wedding Anniversary on Saturday 12th May, best day of my life I truly hope it is for you and your family too, good luck.
@thehoppypoppy @MartyFlanMJFan Thanks! I'm getting married on the 15th, then heading to Sedona for a couple days, then we start playing Hyrule Warriors together, and we also get Deadpool 2 and The Incredibles 2 to look forward to...
May's gonna be a pretty awesome month!
@KayFiOS fantastic, enjoy every minute of it.
@MartyFlanMJFan Thanks! I certainly will!
Nearly Ralph king ! Wish I would stop getting these darn communication errors!!!!!
@Anti-Matter thanks. Yeah I know the strategies against spam grabbers. But it’s boring when too many people are doing this same thing.
Splatfest all the way for me. Will also be getting some sunshine too.
@Crono1973 but nobody had a wiiu🤪
@Lord I wish they'd port Monster Hunter World for Switch... And omg, how did ya get so many hours to MH3U, I mean pls don't spoil if there is major stuff comin. I mean I am around 100 hours in now and I was pretty shocked just from the fact, that the game didn't end when I beat certain 'big sea thing' (trying not to give too much spoilers to anyone..). Haven't done eny port quests and don't wanna, I mean this makes me worried, since there are so many good games out there I need to play, so I wouldn't want to spent forever with just one game.
I decided to participate in the splatfest, a few levels of Doom. On pc I picked up LEGO Star Wars and I’m playing that.
DKTC and South Park. Really enjoying south park. Never played a game with that style of gameplay before. Didn't think I'd like it. But it's actually great fun. Very funny story too. Highly recommend.
@sandman89 TIL that 13 million people = nobody.
Tropical Dong
Beyond 2 souls on ps4
Chaos;child on ps vita
Both good games. Great story telling.
Football manager on the switch. Still getting use to the user interface. But enjoying it so far.
Hungry hungry hippos and ball in a cup.
Playing my SNES Mini: Final Fantasy III!
NBA 2K18
I have not had the Switch for that long and until yesterday, been playing Disgaea 5. I was very tempted to get South Park as my 2nd Switch game but opted instead to purchase a mini sdxc card so that I could download the Naruto Trilogy. It took over 5 hrs to download that sucker. Finally got the chance to play a little of it today. Finally got into a groove picking up the lower lvl missions. For some reason, I started out with S and A type missions.
@oninowon Kudos on the Disgaea choice. I dropped almost 200 hours in that game just clearing the main story. Loved every minute of it!
LOLOL not a single NL contributer playing labo 😂😂😂 it's been out, what, 2 weeks? Not even?
This video sums it up:
https://youtu.be/Of9GOMM9HPg
As for me, still on far cry
Pinball FX3 (Switch), Monster Hunter 3: Ultimate (Wii U), Splatoon 2 (Switch), Rocket League (Switch), Civ III (PC), Streakshot (iOS/Android)
I ended up not playing a lot this weekend as I was busy trying to get my garden in the ground. I snuck in about an hour of Totes the Goat and another hour into South Park but I haven't gotten very far.
Xenoblade Chronicles X was dusted off (back to working on an assault rifle only build, including squad of Irina, H.B. and Alexa), and debated which game to purchase to get enough Gold points for Fast Racing Neo.
BOTW Kart 8 Both on Wii U
Toki Tori
Late to the party, but the limited time I had for gaming this weekend was spent looking for @#$&ing soul stones in Opus: Rocket of Whispers (just need 10 more and I have all the items...).
Really affecting game, though. Powerful narrative.
@Tra6zon1uyum yup that's what I'm playing atm 😊
@Banjos_Backpack We still enjoy the Wii U, even after our Switches, and YWW is one of our co-op favorites.
Skyrim's pretty much life right now.
@Rekiotsu yes monster hunter is a great game, you rack up the hours grinding for gear, and most of the time the item you need will only drop if you achieve certain requirements like break its wing, tail, mane, horn etc. And even if you do this the drop rate is low on odd occasions I've fort big creatures 20-30 times just to get a crafting part.
Enjoy...
@Banjos_Backpack Yeah, I definitely prefer the design of the Switch (the sleekness and versatility) and agree the Wii U Gamepad is clunky by comparison. I installed the higher capacity battery pack in our gamepad ages ago, so I sometimes forget about that issue. Still fun for us overall.
@Mrbayram92 memleket neresi? / and for our international friends: where are you from?
@Banjos_Backpack Well, if you don't have a problem using a wired controller, you can just use a wire with the Gamepad and then it'll always be fully charged, lol. Seriously, though, I think the Wii U was sort of a necessary technological stepping stone (between the Wii and the Switch) in terms of the Nintendo hardware-development team. It's easy to find fault with it, especially given what we have now, but would the Switch exist if the Wii U hadn't come first?
@Banjos_Backpack Yeah, what I was saying was that it seems to me like the Wii U version was possibly a necessary step in their hardware development. In some ways, it was a kind of prototype of the Switch that they then spent years working to improve.
@Tra6zon1uyum the UK
