I'm not a big Pokemon fan but I'm excited to see what they're bringing. Will it be a regular style game or could it be a BOTW open world? With the gen 8 game and Detective Pikachu movie it's certainly going to be a big year for Pokemon.
While the game is serviceable on the Switch it still seems like a lazy port to me. I can understand when a game like Wolfenstein has to make some concessions to run on the Switch, but a Trials game isn't really pushing the Xbox/PS to their limits, so in my mind with some effort it should have been possible to produce a Switch version that was on par with the others.
@Tasuki I got my Xbox One X for 4K bluray, backwards compatibility for a fair number of Xbox/Xbox 360 games and better performance of multiplat games. It's a great compliment for my Switch.
I played Ori on the XBO. I didn't love it but it's definitely a quality game and would be a good fit for the Switch.
@Agramonte Neither Nintendo Sony or MS have much control over 3rd party releases and it's been easy for Sony/MS as they've released their systems and the 3rd parties have just thrown their games at them. Nintendo haven't had that luxury (due to the Wii Us commercial failure) but now that the Switch has proved profitable they are coming around.
Like you said, Nintendo cannot do much more than they are doing, other than space their releases out a bit better throughout the year. As for announcements timing it works both ways. Nintendo announcing games mere months from release can be exciting, but it's also frustrating when it looks like nothing is coming. On the flip side Sony announce games sometimes years before release (up to 10), which is great for looking ahead but frustrating having to wait so long for a game.
If Nintendo did stagger their releases a bit better and get more 3rd party support then they'd likely dominate my whole gaming time. For now I've got multiple systems that fill any gaps, (although I find a lot of the big hyped up names to be pretty mediocre), no single system would provide a continual flow of games (we've not even touched the PS4 since September) so for me there's not much disparity. I have RE2 and ill pick up KH3 (waiting for a price drop) but there really isn't enough games on PS/Xbox that I like to fill my entire year; it's just a few blockbusters (like RDR2) , so they really just help plug the gaps while I'm waiting for Fire Emblem, MUA3 and Astral Chains.
@Agramonte You make it sound like Sony and Microsoft release a AAA game every week. The truth is that Sony haven't released a game since last September, while Microsoft just released Crackdown 3 but the less said about that the better. For 3rd parties there's EA's Anthem, but that's not getting very good reviews either.
Nintendo's releases could be better spaced out across the year, as summer seems especially packed at the moment, but on the whole I think they're doing fine.
I'll play the demo later but there's no excuse for the poor performance. I'll most likely just stick with Trials HD on the Xbox 360 (which probably runs at 60fps).
@Welshland I downloaded it yesterday and had the same issue. I'm in NA too (Canada). Maybe it uses an internet check for it's timed availability and it wasn't turned on yet at Ubisofts end. I'll try it again later today.
I didnt buy the season pass anyway as I couldn't imagine 5 characters that I'd want to pay the money for. Joker is already of no consequence as I haven't played P5. If it was the other Joker and the next one was Batman then I might have got it.
@sanderev
If the Switch was outputting to a headset couldn't it potentially output at 1080p (the same as when connected to a TV) and not be shackled by the Switch's 720p screen. Nm I see you've considered this now.
While the Switch doesn't have the power of the PS4, Nintendo's games tend to have a more cartoonish look that could help and being free of cables is definitely a plus with VR.
I'm still more likely to go for an Oculus Quest if I decide that I want an affordable VR system, but I'd be interested to see what Nintendo comes up with.
They milk the life out of their franchises and have ignored the Switch for the most part. It feels like Activision have been heading for a fall for some time.
Fire Emblem!! Its been in my most wanted top 3 (along with Bayonetta 3 and Metroid Prime 4) since it was announced; so hopefully they'll announce a release date that isn't too far away.
I've tried to play Assassins Creed games but they've all just bored me. I bought AC3 on the Wii U for $15 because the ships looked neat, but ended up giving it away because it was just as bad as the first two.
Since then I've tried Black Flag and Syndicate ; quit both as they were still boring. Now Odyssey looks interesting but I fear that it'll just be like the others when playing.
So I wouldn't buy AC3 on the Switch as I have them all on Xbox Gold already (for 'free') and I can't be bothered to play them on there, let alone pay full price for an old (boring) game.
I have a Fire stick on every TV (except my main) but the games on them are just a novelty. When they start running something like AC Odyssey I might take notice.
I'd like to see Netflix and other apps on the Switch. I wouldn't use it on my TV as it doesn't support 4K, but it would be good for portable use with downloaded content.
As for streaming games, the Switch should be the ideal system as it supports HEVC, something that the other consoles don't.
The sales will ruin me! Leading up to Christmas I got Pokemon and Smash; then Doom and Wolfenstein were on sale and I couldn't decide which to get so I bought both. Then I picked up Grim Fandango and Yokus Island on sale. Now I'm tempted by Hollow Knight and Fire Emblem Warriors.
Outside of the Switch I got a C64 mini and Kerbal Space Program for the Xbox. Now if I just had the time to play all the games...
The Wii U is top for me because it encompasses most of Nintendo's library with its backwards compatibility and VC. I always wanted one of the Nintendo store demo units that had a bunch of games on it and the Wii U was all that and more.
@Morgan19 I wouldn't call the Switch's library 'sloppy seconds'. There are a lot of old ports due to the system being kind of late to the party, which does cause a price descrepency with some games. There are also some technical limitations, but on the whole they're quite impressive for a machine thats about a tenth of the size and has about 40% less power than the PS4.
You'll probably find the PS4 exciting as its all new to you. Ours isnt so fortunate as it only got used for a total of 2 weeks this year (Spiderman). The rest of our gaming has been on the Switch, Xbox One X and Wii U. I weigh the strengths of multiplats and pick the platform accordingly (usually Switch for portability/features or One X for 4K), but regardless of what system you're playing on its good to have options.
@electrolite77 NSMBU, DKCTF, SM3DW, Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, Splatoon, Lego City Undercover, BOTW. Thats some of the best games of the past couple of generations imo.
The GamePad was a game changing controller. Most games could benefit from it, be it for an easier inventory system or for a world map.
Had the Wii U not had a big software gap after release (looking at you Rayman Legends), if Nintendo could have better promoted the system, if had better 3rd party support and had it released earlier instead of having the 9th gen consoles looming over it then I think that it would have been better received. It certaInly wasn't all that it could have been but I loved my Wii U because of the backwards compatibility (I literally have hundreds of Nintendo greats on the Wii/U), a great form factor (with low power consumption), some of the best exclusive games and a focus on familly fun (the kids still play the Wii U more than they do the PS4/XBO).
That doesn't mean that I don't love my Switch (I do its fantastic) or my One X, but the stock PS4 and Xbox One were more disappointing to me than the Wii U ever was.
I only have Mario Odyssey, but I did already have MK8 and BOTW on the Wii U.
@electrolite77 The Wii U was a great console with some of the best games of the gen. Poor marketing and poor release timing caused it to fail; but one day it will be looked back as one of the best systems that just didnt sell.
Red Dead Redemption 2 doesnt seem possible without a lot of cutting and compression, but a Red Dead Redemption port would be cool, or even a remaster of Red Dead Revolver.
Capcom hasnt given me any reason to be excited about any of their releases, so maybe when its actually announced and if its actually on the Switch then I might be interested.
Until then they could give me a port of the arcade version of Strider to placate me.
I have the Splosion Man games on the 360 (and by extension the X One) so I won't be getting them for the Switch. They're fun platformers , not quite as good as Mario (obviously) but definitely a worthy addition to the genre.
@LUIGITORNADO 10/10 movies... For me it would be The Godfather, Star Wars (in 1977), Empire Strikes Back. Maybe Blade Runner, The Princess Bride, Shawshank Redemption. I wouldn't argue too much against Infinity War either.
They might not be a 10 for everyone but they're obviously closer to a 10 than a 0; so I think the 0 bombers are worse than the 10 overhypers.

Kickstart 2 was even better with its course editor.
Ubisoft has just been lazy all round with Rising on the Switch.

Neither Zero or RE1 were rail shooters on the Wii they were straight NGC ports. The Umbrella Chronicles games were rail shooters.
