Re: Review: Disco Elysium: The Final Cut - Still An Absolute Triumph On Switch

Burntbreadman

@Ryu_Niiyama
The text is probably nowhere as near as bad as you think(at least I think)
I was more worried that the text would be blurry rather than small.

Look at any of the screenshots on here.
I cam read the text perfectly fine with my phone in portrait. It will be even easier to read on a switch screen (being bigger than my phone on potrait mode)

Oh I am talking about portable mode (I would have picked it up on the PS4 if I wanted to play in docked mode)

Re: Capcom Will Share More On Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak In TGS Spotlight

Burntbreadman

I hope they it introduces events with actually worth while rewards (armour pieces and weapons as opposed to costumes and stickers)

Changes to the melding system or the ablility to equip two talismen (I dont care about balance, I wanna feel like a god lol)

Give us Beta Armour too for more build variety and a proper end game grind outside melding talismen.

Heck with these 3 changes Id still be playing the vanilla game regularly (as opposed to every so often to catch up on missed events)

Re: Slime Rancher: Plortable Edition Brings Goopy Good Times To Switch, And It's Out Now

Burntbreadman

Its a fantastic game but I would tread carefully with the Switch version.
Ive played both the PC and PS4 version.

The PS4 version suffered from an ever increasing load time (played after the first expansion....not the recent one)
It starts off initially fast but then ended up going upward of 2-3 mins.

It it rectifiable though by keeping the world reletively clean (not just leaving stuff everywhere......the floating ball decorations cause the most load issues)

Basically the more the world is populated by stuff the longer the loading time.

I dont know if this was ever patched out of the PS4 version and whether the smaller RAM avaliable to the switch is going to amplify this issue.

Fantastic game though.

Re: Nintendo Denies Claims It'll Make Increased Profits With Switch OLED, "No Plans" For Other Model

Burntbreadman

I dont claim to know the law inside out but........If their stock prices dropped as a result of the article; couldnt be considered as defamation?

The fact that Nintendo decided to make a statement (rather than taking them to court in private), kinda suggest to me that the story was true. Even more so when you see how they reacted to various things over the years (like closing down that Smash tournament)

Re: Gabe Newell: Pricing Valve's Switch-Like Steam Deck Was "Painful"

Burntbreadman

@KryptoniteKrunch

Plus it doesnt contain the dock and comes as an optional extra (cost unkown)

From the sounds of it there is a large percentage of switch players that play docked only.

This no different from numerous handheld PCs on the market/ due to release (Im still waiting for my GPD Win 3 to arrive)
The only difference being its at a more affordable base price vs its competitors.

If Nintendo feels threatened by them the switch has 6 months to drop in price.
In the long term if they still feel threatened.....it will either encourage Nintendo to innovate or not hold back and use dated technology.
Provided Nintendo keeps releasing physical media there are people willing to buy. (Given a choice Id pick up a switch version over a steam version even when I get my GPD Win3........Im a collector/hoarder)

Likewise more sane people are going to pick up a retail switch title for Birthdays for little ones vs steam 'credit'.....kids love opening presents!

Re: Octopath Traveler Teases Sequel On Its Third Anniversary

Burntbreadman

I actually liked the individual stories.........maybe all a bit simple but enjoyable enough.

I already read about the true boss (as the game doesnt really give you any indication on what to do to unlock it)
But Ive read about people being fustrated the 50 min slog to get to the final boss only to be destroyed by it first time....
.....I didnt fancy wasting that 50 mins to get to it each time.
So I just watched the ending online......that 1min ending was really not worth the effort.

Id like the next games individual stories to be more interwoven (rather than feeling all standalone).

Re: A Dusk Diver Sequel Has Been Announced For Switch

Burntbreadman

I gave up on the original shortly in because it was pretty much the definition of bland.
What really put me off was the requirement to unlock new levels........you had to back track older levels to find collectables you missed in order to open new levels (ala mobile games getting 3 stars)

Maybe it was just me not exploring properly the first time through the level........but it could have been worse ala the RWBY games level of blandness.

As for the sequel, Im not having high expectations but Im not writing it off completly......yet

Re: Feature: 30 Hours Into The Game With A Higher Metascore Than Zelda: Breath Of The Wild

Burntbreadman

I wanted the Vita version but missed my chance when it sold out.
After hearing the Switch version was comming out I eagerly waited to see if the JP had English.......it did not.

So I patiently waited for the LRG pre oder announcement but I missed it.....sigh!

In fairness its probably better this way as I probably built expectations up too much.
Like with Clannad.......I expected to love it but walked away a bit.....meh (infact I prefered the 'inferior' Collar X Malice to it)

Ill play it House of Fata Morgana in the end (most likely steam with a GPD Win 3 or something)
But I got a gut feeling it isnt going to live up to my own expectations ala Clannad

Re: Review: World's End Club - A Real Looker Spoiled By Hit-And-Miss Storytelling

Burntbreadman

Ive finished the game now (13 1/2 hours)
Its a solid 7/10 from me.

Peresonally I dont have an issue with the length (which people may gripe at)
It the perfect length in my eyes......it doesnt overstay its welcome. Ive paid more for shorter games in the past (and dont have any regrets)

Id agree that the action bits are a bit simplistic, but I feel it matches the target audience for the game (I say 10-12 years old)
If you can get over the saccharine sweet friendship message (and your typical annoying kids anime writing and voices)
Theres actually a decent enough story to be found.

There were actually more than once occasions where I didnt see the plot twist comming.
Whilst the character are fleshed just enough for you kinda care.

Nothing ground breaking but still a worthwhile romp that I dont have any regrets picking up day one.

Kinda reminds me a bit like the other NISA game Destiny Connect (that kiddie anime tone but enjoyable enough for older players)

Just so you know Im close to 40 years old so probably way off the target audience for the game......but I still enjoyed it.

Re: Review: World's End Club - A Real Looker Spoiled By Hit-And-Miss Storytelling

Burntbreadman

Now furthur into the game (4-5 hrs)
I have no doubt Im loving it more than the review.
Sure platforming is simplistic but the story and cast has a decent kiddie anime vibe to it.

Put it this way I picked up shin megami tensei nocturne.....I dropped that game for this (I looked at a guide and I was 2/3 of the way through that)

This games story caught my attention more than any part of Nocturne.

Re: Review: World's End Club - A Real Looker Spoiled By Hit-And-Miss Storytelling

Burntbreadman

Im enjoying it personally.
Ive only done the first chapter so far, and despite it feeling like a retread of 999/zero escape death game (for kids)......its hooked me enough to push on.

Honestly I was stumped on the first puzzle (I had to resort to looking it up.......the solution was simple really ......I was over complicating things)

It feels like it is directed at a more child like mentality (not just because of the asthetics but the way the first two puzzles were)

Re: Blazing Strike Is A Fighting Game Inspired By The Arcade Classics

Burntbreadman

@gaga64 I was wrong.
I looked at the original failed kickstart.
There seems to be auto block on normals provided your standing or crouching (ala Tekken)

But guard is your tradition hold back .

Kick start didnt highlight the benefits of either.

Other interesting things to note.
Initially it was a planned rosta of 6 characters with 4 more added for free.

But the most recent images (non kickstart) there is an image with 14 characters)

It looks like some movement options are tied to the rush meter (an enhanced? back dash/forward dash)
But to me it looks like its expended on EX style attacks (but just look like the regular special but with better recover so that you can link to another special)

But the animation is looking kinda janky at the moment.

Re: Blazing Strike Is A Fighting Game Inspired By The Arcade Classics

Burntbreadman

@gaga64
Presumably it could mean one of two things.
Instant guarding stops chip damage/Garou style (basically a less risk less reward parry)

Or probably most likely a stronger defence (no chip damage, faster recovery etc) at the cost of meter (maybe rush meter)
Kinda like blazblue barrier guards.

The other thing just sound like a typo.

Personally I love fighting games and dabble with all the lesser know titles, so Im looking forward to the game.

I hope the rush meter is more than making characters act faster during the duration.....but at the same time I dont really want a custom combo style meter.
I dont kniw what I want it to be lol......surprize me!!

Re: Capcom "Aware" Of Monster Hunter Rise Pose Glitch Preventing Players From Opening Save Files

Burntbreadman

Ive had a couple of glitches but nothing that breaks the game.

I had a floating monster glitch where the monster attacks normally but is floating.....maybe half a player character off the ground.

And ballista glitches (I think I skipped the talking lol) where Im on the ballista but I cant fire or get off. Just have to wait for a monster to knock you off......not great if they gone past you and start attcking what you need to defend

Re: Watch: Video Game Historians Are About To Unbox 600 Rare And Retro Game Magazines

Burntbreadman

I used to love gaming magazines. I pretty much had every GM every CVG from 1988 onwards. Most Of Games TM and Edge.
I binned them all a few years ago as it practically took up two rooms.

These days I just pick up Edge and bin then once Im done (or generally take them to my mums takeaway for reading material for customers-pre covid.....where someone inevitably takes them, which is fine)

Re: Review: Dariusburst Another Chronicle EX + - A Slightly Disappointing Port Of A Modern Arcade Classic

Burntbreadman

I was confused at the descision to release Another Chronicle EX+ thinking it was already in Chronicle Saviour.

But the general lack of info on the title (in English) just left me wondering, If Im missing something.

But thanks for the confirmation that it is just the bare bones arcade release (with the time limited events)

Ill just debate over whether to pick up G Darius on its own (I still have Taito Legends 2 + a BC PS3........)

Re: Rumour: Nintendo To Reveal New Switch Model With Samsung OLED Display And 4K Support

Burntbreadman

@Ravenmaster
Is boils down primarily due to battery why it would be the same 720p.

Even the way superior GPD Win Max 3 (specs wise) is sticking to a 720p screen. This is a handheld that test have shown a number of PS4 gen games running at 60fps.
They stuck to a 720p screen because its less taxing on the CPU/GPU allowing higher frame rates to be achieved. Which also keep the machine cooler to hold whilst being less draining on the battery.

It has a monster battery that dwarfs the Switches. Early pre release testing predicts that the battery would only last 2 hours when running demanding games at 720P at 24W.
Imagine how long the battery would last at 1080P with inferior frame rates (when all other graphical setting are kept the same)

Re: Review: Haven - It Takes Two To Fully Enjoy This Space-Age Love Story

Burntbreadman

Pretty crashy on the switch is an understatement.
Literally every play session ended in a crash (every 30 mins or so)

I dont know if its related to the number of island you visit because it sure felt like it too me (it crashes every 7-8th island or something whether your exploring or just passing through)

It wasnt even worth it on the end (for me)
I loved the dialogue and banter between the two main characters and that was it.
The over arching story was paper thing as was the main gameplay loop.
Combat was pretty basic and wasnt really fleshed out enough.

Its more of a 5/10 game for me

Re: Review: Blue Fire - A Superb Action-Platformer That Puts Gameplay First

Burntbreadman

Doesnt rely in cheap tricks and gotchas...........I have to disagree.
Im a short way in 1 dungeon done on my way to the 2nd only to encounter some fustrating platforming.

Its fiddly enough chaining wall jumps with spin attacks into dashes on small ledges.
But add in enemies that freeze and knock you off the moment you land. Or blast you mid air due to its tracking ability whilst on small ledges......causing you to start again from scratch.

I eventually get to a save point realising I dont have enough to unlock it. Back down I go to grind before going through the whole process again.

Some of the platforming challenges (beeded for health upgrades) are tough requring just the right amount of dash (its not a fixed distance dash)
This is fine in itself. But sending you back to the start rather than the nearest solid ground becomes increasingly fustrating as the challenges ramp up.

Its a but buggy. Sometimes I have a chance to recover lost currency on death whilst other times nope (and no I havent died twice)

Theres a good game in there but boy can it get fustrating at times

Re: Soapbox: It’s Time For A Pokémon Trading Card Game Reboot On Switch

Burntbreadman

@HammerKirby The difference is creating a console release is kinda shooting themselves in the foot.
You have a highly profitable online Pokemon CG which encourages people to buy real life booster packs. (ie micro transactions)

By making a console version devoid of microtransactions is going to affect the the online CG profits........why would they make something that has the potential to do this?

Sure if they are about pleasing its customer base it makes sense but its probably safe to say profits are more important to them

Re: Physical Version Of Kingdoms of Amalur For Switch Includes The "Full Game" On Cartridge

Burntbreadman

@Bunkerneath
It could be worse.
The developers of Trine said everything would come on the cartridge on both press release and twitter.
Trine 4 ended up being a download.........a full ge vs an un released DLC.

Nothing was said about the switch till either after the release or like a week before (it was too late to cancel my order-I would have done as I already had the trilogy digitally on the PS4)

Re: Delisted Switch Title Save Me Mr Tako Will Return Better Than Ever, Says Creator

Burntbreadman

I hae a love hate relationship with Nicalis startinge with BoI.
Their lack off communication for retail releases outside the US (Im in the UK) eventually made me change my metailty of supporting the local release.....I just end up importing their titles.

But ever since the Lttle dew fiasco blew up I havent imported any title from them (I passed on Ikaruga!!!! Omg!)

Ive never let any behind the scene happening affect my descision to purchase a game. But lttle dew and the whole having to import mad the descision easy for me.
Nicalis is dead to me now (I have all their switch titles up to that crystal game...the super puzzle fighter rip off)

Re: Spelunky 1 And 2 Are Both Coming To Nintendo Switch

Burntbreadman

@TrixieSparkle
The first was pretty much perfect.
They could never have hoped to improve on perfection.
Its also perfect for the VITA (I dont need the Switch version....but Id take it if it was in a physical double pack)

But Ive held out picking up the PS4 version because I wanted a portable Spelunky 2.
So Ill definatly pick that up!

Re: Playism Shares Debut Trailer For Grasshopper's Upcoming Switch Release The Silver 2425

Burntbreadman

@Wargoose I fall into the same camp.
Im a big Suda Fan as well as a fan of VNs.
Heck Id put up with the otome dating if the VN has a good story (playing through Collar X Malice)
But I was really disapointed by the silver case so much I passed on the sequal.

I did play through it all so I gave it the chance for it to pick up.
But if as a Suda + VN fan......I find it hard to recommend.
