For those of us that rather enjoy riding Palamutes named after dearly-departed canine friends and fighting awesome monsters, last week's Nintendo Direct started particularly well. It brought the reveal of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, which promises to be a significant expansion for the game next Summer.
Its timing - a few months after the game also arrives on PC - hopefully points to an Iceborne-style expansion in terms of scope (which gave fresh life to Monster Hunter: World). The good news is that we'll learn more soon, with Capcom hosting a spotlight presentation at Tokyo Game Show focused on Sunbreak.
As you can see it's at a time that will hopefully suit plenty of viewers globally - it airs on 30th September at 6am Pacific / 9am Eastern / 2pm UK / 3pm CEST.
We'll likely have a cheeky little live blog for the occasion here at Nintendo Life; are you looking forward to seeing more of Sunbreak?

Hopefully we're getting a confirmation about Rondine's country featuring in the expansion
If you keep 'chitchatting' with not just Rondine but Hinoa and Minoto as well (especially end game HR) you'll already notice the foreshadowing for the big update. Makes perfect sense for the setting.
If the OC/MC will cross the ocean heading to a new locale I'm expecting new Leviathans. I really hope they finally add Lagiacrus.
If it's such a lofty expansion, wouldn't it have made more sense to issue it as a new game (or a budget-priced companion release, similar to the standalone edition of the Torna Xenoblade Chronicles 2 campaign)?
An expansion for digital buyers and a standalone physical release for everyone else (so they're not stuck with a cartridge with only half a game). Everybody wins.
At this rate, I am now even less inclined to eventually grab this (unless an Ultimate edition comes along later).
I hope they it introduces events with actually worth while rewards (armour pieces and weapons as opposed to costumes and stickers)
Changes to the melding system or the ablility to equip two talismen (I dont care about balance, I wanna feel like a god lol)
Give us Beta Armour too for more build variety and a proper end game grind outside melding talismen.
Heck with these 3 changes Id still be playing the vanilla game regularly (as opposed to every so often to catch up on missed events)
Looking forward to more content….
Think i got to rank 45 on this before putting it down. Id love to have some companions that i actually know and could talk to whilst playing it. That said, as a gamer who solely plays single player games, i had so much fun playing online with other people. Defenately better than the offline mode i started out playing solo.
@Silly_G They actually did with the physical versions when Iceborne came out and I'm guessing they'll do the same with Sunbreak. Digital buyers need only buy the Iceborne content. I believe the DLC is cheaper if you buy both the base game and the expansion, but obviously it's only good value for first time World buyers.
It's understandable to only want the Ultimate version since you buy once and you get the whole package. This has been the case pre-World for the west. Ever since World we get the same release schedule as Japan. Basically you can always holdout for the Ultimate version if you can wait a year.
But yeah I'm guessing the content itself won't cost $60 if you'll buy it as DLC but still too steep for people who already bought the base game.
@Silly_G They will probably sell an Ultimate Edition alongside the expansion version.
@Silly_G They'll probably release a physical version with base game + Sunbreak at some point. No way it could be it's own release tho, as this is basically adding in an entire endgame that you're supposed to play after you've gotten through everything in the base game.
Bit early for me. I hope I'll be able to catch it live.
@Zyph
I suspect you mean on land, but I miss fighting it in water.
Everyone else complained about the swimming mechanic, but I actually enjoyed it.
@Kiwi_Unlimited I did mean the crossing sea since we can assume Rondine came to Kamura on a trade ship, if we are to assume the new locale is the Kingdom that she was talking about.
I enjoyed the swimming mechanic to an extent though I do think the fights are anti-climatic and a bit stressful at times. I'm indifferent tbh.
Is this just going to be monster hunter or is there a chance we might see some resident evil not interested in monster hunter but I'll watch it if there might be something resident evil related
@SwitchVogel : Makes sense that it wasn't a standalone release then. Cheers.
I am looking forwards to Sunbreak. I do hope they release a physical version like they did with Iceborn which was complete with World. It was a reasonable price so I'm hoping it will be the same.
