Cast your minds back to Nintendo's E3 Direct and you'll remember the slightly surprising announcement that Square Enix's Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy would be headed to Switch. It'll only be available on Nintendo's platform as a Cloud version, unfortunately, but the release date is now just around the corner.
It'll be launching on 26th October across all major platforms (again, only as a Cloud version on Switch), and ahead of the release, Square Enix has shared an "almost" complete tracklist for the game's soundtrack. As you'd expect with it being a Guardians of the Galaxy game, it boasts a soundtrack full of '80s rock and pop songs:
- Blondie - Call Me
- Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear The Reaper
- Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry Be Happy
- Hot Chocolate - Every 1's A Winner
- Wang Chung - Everybody Have Fun Tonight
- Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World
- EUROPE - The Final Countdown
- New Kids on the Block - Hangin' Tough
- Pat Benatar - Hit Me With Your Best Shot
- Bonnie Tyler - Holding Out for a Hero
- KISS - I Love It Loud
- Flock of Seagulls - I Ran
- Culture Club - I'll Tumble 4 Ya
- Mötley Crüe - Kickstart My Heart
- Simple Minds - Love Song
- Rick Astley - Never Gonna Give You Up
- Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Relax
- Def Leppard - Rock Rock Till You Drop
- Rainbow - Since You Been Gone
- A-ha - Take On Me
- Soft Cell - Tainted Love
- Loverboy - Turn Me Loose
- Autograph - Turn Up the Radio
- Wham! - Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go
- Scandal featuring Patty Smyth - The Warrior
- Starship - We Built This City
- Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It
- Billy Idol - White Wedding
You'll hear these tracks as you progress through the game, and can also check them out on the jukebox you'll find on the Milano. The 'Huddle', a key combat mechanic, will also let you choose between two songs on Star-Lord's cassette player to motivate your team and overwhelm your enemies.
Square Enix says that all of the songs will be featured in the game, but with an optional toggle for those who might want to mute them for streaming purposes.
Will you be checking out Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy when it arrives on 26th October? Will you be playing on Switch, or does the Cloud version put you off? Let us know in the usual place.

Thing is the soundtrack of the movies isn't 80s music, it was mostly 70s music. It's meant to be music Star Lord's Mum listened to as a kid which she passed onto him.
@Gwynbleidd And if can only play the game on the go on a mobile console! 🤣
@jump This is not based on the movies, though. It can have a different kind of Star Lord which doesn't necessarily have to be faithful to the comics either.
A cloud version with licensed music? This is just begging to be delisted in a few years.
Agree with two comments above - the soundtrack above doesn’t work for the source material at all. But…. It’s still a corking soundtrack. I won’t be playing on switch but have this preordered with 20% off. Looking forward to it
@KoopaTheGamer True but it's a common misconception of the movies which goes against the purpose of the music chosen. Even the article states "As you'd expect with it being a Guardians of the Galaxy game, it boasts a soundtrack full of '80s rock and pop songs".
At least it's not Smashmouth I suppose...
Some great tracks. Though it really just gets me hyped for Vice city. I’m curious to see what changes, if any, they make with that one.
@jump Guardians came out in 2014 though. People that are Star-Lord’s age now would have absolutely had 80s music passed down instead.
As @jump alluded to above, the music’s from the wrong decade.
@nessisonett I doubt they are actually updating it for today's audience and Chris Pratt is still playing Star Lord and has not de-aged.
I was pointing out people are ignorant of the music used and think it's 80s as they can't tell the difference, it's a common misconception.
Weirdly its missing ELO - Mr Blue Sky
Meh, its a cloud game, and I already have all those songs as they are amazing.
So no thanks SQEEEEEEEENIX
Hanging tough is brilliant xx
Looking forward to getting my hands on this game. Roll on the 26th.
That is funny how the movie was a different time period of music, but the game devs went with 80's genre music. I dig the music list. Kind of feels like the lost tracks to GTA: Vice City.
@jump Chris Pratt isn’t in this though. It’s a different, younger Guardians.
That's an 80's lover dream list right there!
@nessisonett Considering the game isn't an origin story I doubt they are that much younger but I really don't care anymore so yes, you have persuaded me. They are updating that 7 year old film to include 80s music for today's yoof to make sure it's different from the movies and it's nothing to do with people including the author of the article thinking Guardians is filled with 80s music.
Take on me! Day one buy!
I cannot wait to see where they are going to use Never Gonna Give You Up in the game
We've just been rick rolled and nobody noticed...
Great track list. I know the songs in GoG MCU were from the 1970s, but still....
So where I buy a cd of the soundtrack for my dad? The movies are some of his two favorites, and when I got him the OST CDs for his anniversary, he was a happy man, even though he already had many of those on record.... Jeez he's so old.
I'm quite interested in this game but I'm skeptical about it running well on Switch. The list is great, it reminds me of my playtime with Metal Gear 5 as it also had 80's music and it gave a different feeling to those classic songs while playing.
May I remind everyone that the last Square Enix Marvel based game kind of sucked? It was so glaringly bad that it actually scored less than 7 out of ten from some people. When you consider that 7 out of ten is the minimum score you can give a "AAA" game without getting your editorial support and/or advertising cut off, that is quite damning.
Bonus demerit points for being a cloud game. On the plus side, Square Enix won't have to bury any Switch version copies in the New Mexico Desert next to ET Atari VCS.
Pretty sure Don’t Fear the Reaper is 70s. Not sure they thought this through but I appreciate a couple of the more unusual choices, although it’s definitely cheesier than the movie soundtrack.

Anyone who watches someone do a play through gets Rick rolled
