Capcom's already released a day one update for Monster Hunter Rise, but it seems there's one other issue it needs to sort out.
The official Monster Hunter Twitter account says it's "aware" of a glitch that can prevent players from opening a save file and is working on an immediate fix. As explained below, it's all tied to the Action/Hurt Pose DLC gestures.
Until it releases a patch, it's advised players avoid setting these gestures to the action bar (or remove them, if you already have) and use them from the start menu only.
Early this week, Capcom also revealed Version 2.0 of the game was scheduled for the end of April. It will include several new monsters. Have you encountered the above glitch yourself? How are you finding the game so far? Leave a comment below.

Oh wow, I don't have those in my action bar, so bullet dodged, I guess.
Wait. Which pose sets are these? I have the Deluxe edition and I think I have all the DLC (except the amiibo content), and yet I don't seem to have them?
CORRECTION: nope, I do not have all the DLC. Damn, there's a lot of paid DLC for this game. I remember the days when MH games didn't have any paid DLC, lol. At least it's all cosmetic; I can't really get upset about that.
How do you miss a glitch like this when play testing the game...?
@Tourtus Based on the article is isn't a 100% going to screw up your save so it not being found in QA isn't that odd.
I think I'll pass on paying extra money to break my game.
I didn’t get those in the action bar so I am fine. Liking the game so far
@Northwind Thanks, I didn't realize there were more cosmetics on the eshop.
@Northwind "I remember the days when MH games didn't have any paid DLC, lol"
I remember the day when no game had dlc and the internet was so bad that you wouldnt be able to downlad dlc even if it was available 😂🙈😂
@Kidfunkadelic83 Instead, we had to buy completely new carts or discs for title updates. This is the same company, after all, that had people buy into a title update for M. Bison and his crew and yet another for Cammy, Fei-Long, T. Hawk, and Dee Jay. This is the same company that had us buy a whole 'nother disc for Vergil, a few extra boss fights, and difficulty rebalances. Paid DLC is just a natural evolution of this concept.
Lol. Y'all aren't wrong - but the point of my previous comment was that MH used to provide tonnes of new content, usually on a monthly basis for a year or more after release, for free. This goes back as far as the early versions on PSP over a decade ago, and has held true as recently as Generations on the 3DS and Generations Ultimate on the Switch.
DLC isn't new to MH. Paid DLC, though, is.
I've only been playing for 2 hours and I've already had the game just completely lock up on me too. I really hope this isn't indicative of what's to come.
Not had any problems, though I'm not very far into it yet; had the urge to play some Guitar Hero last night.
The one thing that bugs me a little is that the palamutes are basically ghosts when you're not riding them, clipping through everything.
Good thing I never use gestures. Except when occasionally bribed by Nora to do so in Warframe.
Hopefully by the time my copy will arrive all these bugs will be sorted out
(On a side note, Paid DLC for a MH...? Reportedly only 50 or so hours of “free” playing time and almost everything else paid, versus thousands of hours of content MHGU has...? I love MH but 😳 my pockets don’t afford much of the paid content)
@Northwind
They still do that though.
The paid DLC, in form of cosmetics, just comes on top of that.
Only exception to all of this is the "Ultimate" version of the game, that was practically a big DLC pack that they always had for Monster Hunter. Just in that case you had to buy the entire game with the DLC included again.
You could call that "paid DLC", it just wasn't downloaded.
Am I understanding right that when the v2.0 update releases that adds more quests and monsters, this will be the end game content that is currently missing from the game? I read an article yesterday that seems to leave the game unfinished after the last quest and only teasing more content if you talk to npcs.
Why not release all of the game instead of having to patch in the end game content later?
@Northwind MHW had tons of paid dlc, all of them cosmetic.
And then had a huge add-on in the form of Iceborne, that made it basically MHWG.
On top of an astounding support in the form of free, meaningful updates.
Something the team of Animal Crossing seems not able to grasp the concept of, on a side note.
@Mangaphile to keep players entertained with a constant flow of new content.
Because there is already a lot of game in it as it is and internet always whines.
Because we’re in the middle of a pandemic and that makes development difficult.
Pick the one you like.
(Compares number of large monsters in vanilla World to number of large monsters in vanilla Rise, then reads complaints about Rise not being long enough)
Hrmmm
Best monster hunter so far in my opinion. World was already great, this one is just another step better, gonna be playing this a lot!
Game is awesome. While this isn't a 'end of the world' glitch it does make me feel slightly off a bit knowing something minor can cause such a glitch. Makes me wonder what else slipped through the cracks. I understand though glitches happen and are very common in all games.
I personally would have preferred a whole lot less marketing (the 3-4 or whatever "digital events" was overkill) and more on working on the game. I always get nervous when developers over saturate with marketing no matter who it is. The marketing push became way too much for me I had to step back the last 2 months in order to regain my excitement otherwise I was already burned out.
Ive had a couple of glitches but nothing that breaks the game.
I had a floating monster glitch where the monster attacks normally but is floating.....maybe half a player character off the ground.
And ballista glitches (I think I skipped the talking lol) where Im on the ballista but I cant fire or get off. Just have to wait for a monster to knock you off......not great if they gone past you and start attcking what you need to defend
@Ganner you do realize that marketing/digital event and demo teams are different to the game team. This is a relatively minor bug in the sense its an edge case. This game is massive and expecting the QA team to find every single glitch is being unreasonable. The fact the main game seems to be very solid is a testament to the testing teams in my book.
I mean in perspective it's nothing like the disaster that was Cyberpunk 2077 for instance. Count yourselves lucky, and try and be a bit more tolerant and respectful of the huge amount of work the devs teams have put into the game.
I regret buying this game now i didn't realise how bloody hard it is. Its the hardest game I've ever played full stop. Good job i bought it physically so i can trade it in toward xenoblade 2 as i've just finished 1 and loved it.
@Dethmunk You make a good point. I didn't mean to come off being too picky in regards to minor bugs. I definitely do appreciate and respect the hard work put in by the team. I play a lot of Friday the 13th The Game so I'm very accustomed to bugs
I'm the super sensitive type when it comes to marketing. I've mentioned on here multiple times (I can't get over it ) but my heart still bleeds from the tragedy of Aliens Colonial Marines. I was a devout diehard follower of ALL the marketing for that game especially all the in depth looks Gearbox did leading up to the release. The feeling of sadness, shock and disappointment has to be something similar like your significant other leaving you at the altar. Since then when developers/publishers spend a lot of time in the marketing I can't help but get a wee bit uncomfortable.
Paid DLC pack gestures so that’s a relief.
Are they aware of the ridiculously low amount of amiibo they released? No? Ok.
@Kidfunkadelic83
In the West they did not, because the frenchise wasn't established here.
In Japan they milked the customers:
Edit:
Same for example for the first Hyrule Warriors, as Warriors Games aren't as popular here, much of the Stuff was included in the Game or DLC.
In Japan you had to buy everything separatly...
No problems yet and I’ve put in 20 ish hours already. This game is so good. I think playing stories 2 prepped me for the lore and world of a mainline game kinda. I had a 3ds demo of like 3u or something and never really liked it. Rise is awesome. Glad I ordered the rise pro controller too; can’t wait for it to show up.
No dramas so far, yes it's hard but that's what I like about it. I knew what I was buying into regarding difficulty level, but really enjoying playing this!!
This is my first MH game, and I can safely put it in the "why do people like this" file. I srsly don't understand why everything from the UI, menus, and controls are so complicated.
@Bliquid @Kirgo, yeah, and as I said in my initial comment, I’m not really upset about it so long as it’s just cosmetics. I really can’t stress enough, though, that cosmetic alterations used to be handled differently, in a way that didn’t cost real money: transmogrification. Sometimes in MH, particularly in the later game, the ‘best’ armour sets have traditionally been ‘mixed’ sets - which often look ugly as sin. MHGU introduced transmog to allow such sets to be more usable by ‘fashion hunters’ (a community that, full disclosure, I consider myself a part of). Now, to some extent, the reworked MHW skill system means that mixed sets might not be as necessary for min-maxers in Rise - but they’ll still have their place, and now the only real ways to make cosmetic changes are layered armours, most of which cost real money. (Unless I’m mistaken and this game still offers the option of transmog, in which case someone please correct me. There seems little mechanical reason for that functionality to not be here, since it was very well received previously and didn’t affect game balance in any way - except that if it’s present then Capcom might sell fewer cosmetics for real money. Lol)
Also, just as an aside for anyone reading this who’s new to MH or otherwise unclear: this is not the ‘ultimate’ version of Rise (nor of World). Ultimate versions add G-rank and corresponding gear and monsters to their base games (cf. 3 Ultimate vs Tri, 4 Ultimate vs 4, Gen U vs Generations). Rise is a separate game from World, using similar systems - but Rise is the base game. I fully expect ‘Rise Ultimate’ to come along in a year or two and to be a separate, paid piece of software (either as a standalone piece of software that allows one to port their data à la MHGU, or as an expansion pack à la Iceborne). That kind of massive content update, I have no problem paying for. I really don’t have any problem with cosmetics being for sale either - though unless I’m mistaken it does seem to have incentivised Capcom to remove one of the most popular free ways of making cosmetic changes.
@Northwind i don’t follow.
All Layered Armors are free in MHW, you have to gather the materials.
In MHW you pay for the Assistant skins, poses, emotes, stickers and some haircut.
Why wouldn’t be the case in Rise?
@Bliquid, 'All Layered Armors are free in MHW, you have to gather the materials. Why wouldn’t be the case in Rise?'
At least the following layered armour (ETA: or equivalent) are paid DLC in Rise; there might be more, but these I know of for a fact:
ETA:
That's a fairly sizable list, especially considering that the game is still new and more will surely be added for sale later. (It also encompasses p much every set that I've yet seen anyone using, though that could just be my experience and others' might differ.) If it's possible to craft these later in the game in Rise too, ok. Fair play then. I actually haven't got the the ability to craft layered armour at all yet in Rise, so I didn't know that was (or would be) an option. I think there might still be something to be said if the more desirable layered sets are DLC only (even if others can be crafted) - but if, as you say, they'll all be craftable and maybe paying is just a way to acquire them faster and more easily, then fair enough. I see no problem with that.
So glad I didn't purchase this unfinished glitch fest!
@Brummieendo90 Sad to hear that. Maybe a friend should teach you how its played effectively. MH World and this one are the most accessible /easiest versions of MH. The older titles will give you a heart attack then hehe.
@Northwind Technically World had paid layered armour as both World and Iceborne had a Deluxe version what had them plus pre-order LA, in fact one could argue if you wanted Layered Armour of most of the armour sets in World you had no choice but to buy Iceborne. Being honest Rise doesn't have that much paid LA, Palico's and the new Palamute's getting them is a new thing and so far the only paid ones for your hunter are some head things you most likely would never wear anyway. The only paid LA what bothers is the Amiibo one's as one i don't like Amiibo's and two those Amiibo's are a pain to get hold off right now, in fact i'm actually going to create my own Amiibo's cards of the Rise ones later in the week when i get some new NFC cards.
Overall though i'm not bothered about the paid DLC, its much cheaper then World's paid stuff and so far its mostly useless fluff.
@Brummieendo90 i was in the same boat when i first started playing MH. Its not really that hard you just need to attack and move. Dont stay in the same place or you will get hit. What weapon did you start out with? I suggest the duel swords as they are fast and you stay nimble. Hit Rz when attacking to go in to demon mode and build up your red guage and then when its at the top hit it again to go in to arch demon. Plenty of weapon tutorials out there. Once you beat and harvest a few of the big monsters go see the smithy and make some new armour. Helps out alot.
@andyg1412 whoa there cowboy, calm on the reins.
This is classified "exceptionally minor" in that it's not even a bug that you'd typically come across (nor does it mess with your save file - it simply makes you unable to use it until the bug is fixed - so the save is fine).
ANY QC division would in the world would likely have missed this. They test if things work - but if they tested every single little thing including making it do things it wasn't intended to, they'd never finish. So it's likely they've tested the exact same use case with several other poses, or even these, and not stumbled upon the bug, because it doesn't even happen to EVERY user who attempts to reproduce it (I just tried myself as well - my save is perfectly fine and can still be accessed - it's not just some bug you could easily account for).
Remember: Back before DLC and patches, it wasn't like we got complete games without bugs. We just had to live with the bugs.
There are hardly any glitches to speak of in the game.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Thanks for the advice I'm going to give it another shot before i trade it in.
@Ishmokin I don't have any friends that play it unfortunately i think its a super hardcore game for alpha gamers lol.
@Brummieendo90 i dont know how to se uo MP but you can add me if you like. My code is in my profile.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Thanks i will
@Brummieendo90 @Crockin The amount of information that the game throws at you is overwhelming. I think it needs to do a better job at introducing newcomers to all the mechanics. Once it clicks with you though the combat is incredibly satisfying.
For starters just focus on the basics. Choose one weapon and learn its basic combos. I recommend sword and shield, dual blades, or hammer. I think they are the simplest to use and they are still my personal favorites. Watch your health and get to a safe place to drink potions when needed.
The essence of the game is to learn the monsters' attack patterns, dodge their attacks and figure out when you have a chance to attack. You can't just start attacking randomly. Sheathe your weapon when not attacking so you can run faster (with weapon sheathed hold R while moving to run fast, but this drains your stamina so watch the stamina bar). Once you get the hang of it the game is amazing.
I haven't encountered any glitches. About 20 hours in and the game has been running perfectly so far. Absolutely loving it, although I'm still not sure how I feel about how they have simplified certain things. I think being limited to the items in your pouch on hunts added another layer of strategy that I miss from the old games. I actually wish they would have brought that back for Rise.
@Northwind the major DLC is still free. They've stated in an interview in the past they don't agree with paid dlc that isn't cosmetic and doesn't effect the game. But that's just the MH team...who knows whatever Capcom thinks though.
@Brummieendo90 try a different approach. MH isn't a generic action hack and slash. It's all about watching your opponent, kinda like you would in a fighting game. Sure some faster weapons ate great to start with, but you'll only learn anything by taking a slower one and watching for the righ opening to strike. If you're stuck, ask online for someone to train with you and teach you the ropes. You'll be amazed how wonderfully helpful some players in the community are with new hunters.
@Crockin there's plenty of handy beginner tutorials on youtube! Failing that, many hunters in the community are more than happy to help you in the training hall, you just have to ask.
