I really don't get the hatred for Gone Home. I thought it was pretty good, despite the contrivances of handily placed items - which is kind of unavoidable with this type of game when there are no other characters but a definite narrative (unlike Dear Esther, for example). Curious to hearehere the dislike comes from.
I decided to try out Caretaker, which was a mistake. Despite a few clever jumpscares, the game is dull and slow as you trudge through barren environments. Oh, and no inverted look.
So switched to Into the Dead 2 for some fast-paced horror action.
@nmanifold I found that at first, too. But eventually realised that if you play around with the "stability" setting for a car you can get it to drift easily. Low stability and mid-high handling are a good start.
@datamonkey the review scored so low because of input lag that nobody else seemed to encounter. The game has also improved dramatically since then, so the score is no longer relevant.
@RebeccaEdv I decided to give it a try. It's a horrifically simplified version of that game. The speech has that muffled effect 8 bit games had, and the graphics are very C64-ish.
Best of all, the game stutters when you get into combat, it's slow at the best of times and the on-screen button prompts are wrong. Great game!
Looking at the main screenshot, my first thought was to channel my inner Barry Burton with a "what is this?"
But the point of Arcade archives seems to be to release classics AND obscure titles most people had forgotten. I'm ok with that, as much as I would love to see more '90s games. I don't think we'll be seeing any licensed games like Star Wars Trilogy or TMNT, though. Too expensive.
Plus Alpha is the only game I'm interested in this week. It's a "cute em up" like the Twinbee games, but without having separate air and ground attacks. Not a bad shooter from what little I've played so far.
The top left screenshot has a poster in the background with some darts embedded in it. The person on that poster looks like Simon the Sorceror, so hopefully a sign of where they took influence from.
@MasterGraveheart as great as those would be, I suspect the licensing is an issue. Konami bought back the licenses for the PS3/ 360 releases, but they would probably need to do so again for this.
That said, there must be more 90s games for them to port.
This is definitely worth a look. I hadn't played it before, so didn't know what to expect, and was pleasantly surprised.
Each stage is a single screen, with the goal to kill a certain number of enemies. It controls like a twin stick shooter, but is slower than most games in that genre since your enemies take cover so you can't just rattle off shots. Add in some amusing animations for some things and level design that means you can't just weave between bullets as things are in your way, and you have a fun - and surprisingly polished - game.
I don't gave a lot of time free this weekend, but I hope to get some time with Two Point Hospital. I also finished Bucket Knight (no relation), which is a pretty good game that will probably get overlooked among all the other releases.
I like this game, but PvE is frustrating with ransoms. Mainly because people pick medic for the shotgun and forget they can actually heal/revive. I've seen medics run away from downed team members so they can get in on the action instead.
That said, PvP is really enjoyable with some interesting maps.
@Shiryu do you know why this uses the same assets as Rock n Rally racing? They seem to be by different companies, but the graphical style, fonts, voices and LS to respawn are certainly identical.
I am hopefully getting Fire Emblem for Christmas, so will be playing that. I will also be spending more time on DQXIS. I played a few hours yesterday and completed the Sniflheim section, which was appropriate for this time of year.
I decided to give Anthem another go this weekend. There have been several additions since I last played. Time trials, seasonal quests and more enemies in freeplay mean there's more to do after the story ends.
I’ll be splitting my time between Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and DQXIS. I’m not expecting much gaming time, though, so doubt I’ll achieve much in either.
@BLD the scene highlighted in the review just shows that the reviewer has never heard of a clip on tie and never played an old point and click game where you use items rather than talk about them. Having played the Vita version, I didn’t struggle with the concept at all.
So (personally) I think complaining about that scene and the use of the Entirely Optional live action visuals is an unfair reflection of the game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 29th)
Project Cars 3 and more Crysis for me. Although I am tempted to buy The Last Bonfire, too.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 22nd)
I've spent some time playing through Paratopic and A Short Hike. Now splitting my time between Grid on the PS4 and Crysis on the Switch.
Re: Hamster's Arcade Archives Brings A Konami "Masterpiece" To Switch This Week
Definite purchase for me.

Re: Nintendo Download: 23rd July (Europe)
Crysis and that Arcade Archives game for me.

Re: Nintendo Download: 16th July (Europe)
I've ordered the Warhammer game as a physical edition. Also downloaded kangaroo.
Re: Kangaroo Hops Onto Hamster's Arcade Archives Collection This Week
I will pick this up. It's a game I'm completely unfamiliar with, but it looks interesting.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 11th)
I decided to try Vigor, so just waiting for that to download. Also playing Dragon View on the Evercade.
Re: After 27 Years, Amiga Shmup 1993 Shenandoah Finally Launches On Switch
@Ventilator fair enough. I only ever had a demo, so am not overly familiar with it.
Re: Nintendo Download: 9th July (Europe)
Anybody know what the Arcade Archives game is this week?
Re: After 27 Years, Amiga Shmup 1993 Shenandoah Finally Launches On Switch
@Ventilator there's a very Apidya-esque looking game on the eshop. I think it's called Bee-kyr or something along those lines.
Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd July (Europe)
Tennis 1920s almost had my interest, but it's free to play with various "micro" transactions. So... no.
Re: Jaleco's P-47: Thunderbolt Joins The Arcade Archives Roster Today
This makes me happy.
Re: Rise: Race The Future Update Adds 60fps, Improved Graphics And More
@nmanifold I found that at first, too. But eventually realised that if you play around with the "stability" setting for a car you can get it to drift easily. Low stability and mid-high handling are a good start.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 20th)
I'm mainly playing No Man's Sky on the xbone, but also dipping into Animal Crossing and Sunset Riders.
Re: Nintendo Download: 18th June (Europe)
I think the release date for Railway Empire might be wrong...
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (June 6th)
Animal Crossing, Minecraft Dungeons and 51 Worldwide Games for me. Especially slot cars!
Re: Gear.Club Unlimited 2 Is Getting A Deluxe 'Tracks Edition' This August, Exclusive To Switch
@datamonkey the review scored so low because of input lag that nobody else seemed to encounter. The game has also improved dramatically since then, so the score is no longer relevant.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 30th)
Thunderforce Air Conditioning, Minecraft Dungeons and maybe some Animal Crossing.
Re: Nintendo Download: 28th May (Europe)
@hitscan85 that's a good point. Although playing this with a NES pad would be even worse.
Re: Nintendo Download: 28th May (Europe)
@RebeccaEdv I'd say "my pleasure", but it really wasn't. Still not the worst game I've played on the Switch.
Re: Nintendo Download: 28th May (Europe)
@hitscan85 I played it. It seems to be a C64 port! I recommend avoiding it.

Re: Nintendo Download: 28th May (Europe)
F117-A Stealth Fighter? That looks like the Amiga game of the same name. Should be fun without a keyboard...

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (May 9th)
Animal Crossing for me. I completed Rise: Race the Future and 198X so far this weekend, so I'm ready for '80s Overdrive.
I also grabbed Dark Burial because it was on sale for £0.08!
Re: Nintendo Download: 7th May (Europe)
@antster1983 thanks for the update. I love that game so will probably get that, too.
Re: Nintendo Download: 7th May (Europe)
'80s Overdrive is pretty much a must for me. Tempted by Void Bastards, too.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 25th)
I was going to delve into Animal Crossing again today, but both my museum and shop are closed...
So maybe some World of Final Fantasy or Astral Chain instead.
Re: Hamster Adds A Slice Of Gaming History To The Switch eShop This Week
I'll be picking this up, even if just for curiosity value. It's a game I know nothing about, so will be a new experience.
I agree with the comments about Sunset Ridets, though. It's like Microsoft Game Room all over again!

Animal Crossing for me. With some Kona thrown in on the XBone since it's on Game Pass.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 21st)
A mixture of Animal Crossing and Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night for me.
Re: Nintendo Download: 19th March (Europe)
The Arcade Archives release this week is Formation Z. It's an interesting game concept but I'm not convinced it's that good.
Still, more obscure titles are welcome.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 14th)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and St Dragon on Arcade Archives. I might try Warface's daily PvE, too.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 7th)
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and Warface for me.
Maybe a bit of Swordbreaker for some "choose your own adventure" kicks.

@Shiryu makes sense. Somebody might use it to make a decent game at some point, then...

I'm interested in Speedway Racer, and have downloaded Goblin Sword - which I can't see listed...
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Christmas? (Special Edition 2019)

Also continuing DQXI.
Re: Nintendo Download: 21st November (Europe)
Picked up In The Hunt. More '90s games please, Hamster.
Also downloaded True Fear part 2. The first one was surprisingly good for its genre.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (November 16th)
I’ll be splitting my time between Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and DQXIS. I’m not expecting much gaming time, though, so doubt I’ll achieve much in either.
