The shoot 'em up library on the Nintendo Switch continues to expand - with Hamster Corporation this week adding Konami's 1990 "masterpiece" Lightning Fighters (known as Trigon in Japan) to the Arcade Archives library on the eShop.
Here's a bit about it from the official press release, along with some screenshots:
"SUPER FIGHTERS" mounted with plasma wave weapons and "TRIGON", an unmanned auxiliary combat pod, are sent out into battle as mankind's final trump card to repel the invasion of an alien civilization. This KONAMI masterpiece makes a return specially for the scrolling shooter gamer in you.
Hamster's latest Arcade Archives release will set you back $7.99 / £6.29 and is designed for 1-2 players. Will you be adding it to your collection? Leave a comment down below.

This is amazing news! This game was one of my main reasons for buying a FlipGrip (this and Pinball FX of course).
I just wish they would re-design the icons of these releases.
Is this game in any collections?
This just reminds me that I used to get Curry Trigon from my local Chinese takeaway, but then they stopped offering them. ☹️
I love 90’s Konami arcade games, I’ll pick this up.
@jobvd I believe this is its first ever console release. Don't quote me on that, but I can't find any information about any previous console release.
Never played this one but it looks good. These Hamster releases are swelling my Switch library. Quality emulation.
do we know if this will work portrait?
Finally, a shoot-em-up I actually used to play in the arcades!
@hanp01 hamster releases alway do
This looks really good. Love the level of detail in the background.
@Bustacap Thanks
This looks great, i just cannot warrant buying any more games at the moment. The backlog is ridiculous and i will not find the time to play it, Simple, but frustrating. Adulting has taken over
This looks really good but when I saw Konami and masterpiece, my mind immediately jumped to metal gear 2: solid snake!
@KevTastic84 I've stopped buying RPGs for this reason 🙈 they've seriously slowed every other "short" game I have. FE3H took 80 hours, DQXI is currently at 55 (probably will end at 65), then I have the Witcher 3... And like 8 other games that are under 20 hours. I know the pain XD
bought it and played a couple minutes. feels like another well done port and i can‘t wait to play this evening!
Cool. Was hoping it was Salamander 2 though
Up next, Violent Storm. Do it Hamster!
Looks kinda slow to me. Plus I'm not a fan of shmups that kick you back to a checkpoint at the loss of every life, mainly because I'm not very good at them and can't spam continues to get through the game!
Reckon I'll stick with Twinbee for my Konami shmup fix on Switch. Plus I picked up a CoreGrafx Mini so I'm pretty much set for shooters for the rest of time 😂
@Kilamanjaro I have two young children so a just struggle to play any time sinkers now. The last game i put real time into was Stardew Valley and i am far from finished with that. Started PM Orgami King a few weeks ago and only put in about 2 hours so far.
I'll definitely get this on my Switch. I wish Hamster releases focused on stuff like this more often. Parodius please!!!
Last night I got suckered into burgertime.
I have gotten a few shooters like aero fighters. None of them are as good as Raiden. Is this game at raidens level?
@60frames-please no client on the frame rate? I'm disappointed
Definite purchase for me.
This looks so cool will be getting this!
Bought and tried it. Not very impressed, slow paced and boring in the beginning, huge hitbox, quite slow movement speed. There are better games from the same era.
It looks pretty nice though.
I love Raiden, Ikaruga, and 1942 so this game would be right up my allie. Still hoping for Radiant Silvergun comes to Switch soon.
It certainly looks great. I have never played this to be honest
Looks interesting, but worries about the slow feel and the small weapon firing arc. As it was released in 1990, it was just a few years prior where I feel the sweet spot era of 2D shm’ups, during the latter half of the 16bit era and the first half of the 32bit.
Still holding out for the Raiden Fighter Aces Collection and Battle Garegga making its way to Switch. That and the Saturn’s Hyper Duel.
The outlier is of course UN Squadron but that would be a licensing nightmare.
Give us Xexex please! And the arcade versions of the Parodius games!
Oh man, I just ordered my FlipGrip!!!! Perfect timing!
@shock_trooper Ah, a man of taste, I see.
@FX102A Hyper Duel and Battle Garegga both need a comebacks. I have a Japanese Saturn, but I don’t have $700 to spend on Hyper Duel!!
I know it’s not an arcade release, but where the heck is Advanced Busterhawk Gleylancer??? Is it too, going to die on the Wii shop?!
I hope we eventually get Gradius 3. Even if it the SNES version with the slowdown...was still a fun game with an epic soundtrack.
Awesome game
@jobvd No.
it's okaaaaaaaaaay, still very average. Most Konami shooters are.
@TG16_IS_BAE seven quid on etsy. Battle garegga was re-released three years ago on PS4.
@YANDMAN That was the fastest purchase I've ever made LOL Thanks for that! I had no idea. I don't mind a reproduction or two in my collection, especially if they fill the void of an insanely priced collectors game. Thanks again!
@KevTastic84 best of luck with the backlog!
@TG16_IS_BAE
If you’re looking for it, Dangun Feveron came out, too, as part of the same series of “shotriggers” ports. M2 supposedly has a whole bunch of shooters coming out in the series but I haven’t seen anything materialise as of yet.
@robr interesting, never heard of that one. I’ll research it after dinner!
@TG16_IS_BAE Games are there to be played, not lose your house over.
@TG16_IS_BAE Dangun is fun. I've got it on my PS4. I wish all M2's work would release on Switch...
@YANDMAN Exactly
@60frames-please Yeah, M2 has some good stuff that needs to dust off onto the Switch.
@TG16_IS_BAE At least Battle Garegga is on PS4. Hyper Duel however remains the walled off gem. Since Sega owns Technosoft and has released 2 Thunderforce titles, I pray it will release Hyper Duel under Sega Ages; the Saturn version though.
@FX102A Yeah, that would be great!
Nice to see more 90's stuff in Hamster's Arcade Archives series, even if it's early 90's.
@jobvd don't believe it is, I almost forgot it had a western release & have jus Been playing trigon on mame cab!
