Hamster has announced that NMK and Jaleco's side-scrolling shmup P-47 Thunderbolt is joining its Arcade Archives range today.
Originally released on Jaleco's Mega System 1 arcade system back in 1988, P-47 Thunderbolt (also known as "P-47: The Freedom Fighter" and "P-47: The Phantom Fighter" elsewhere in the world) is set during World War II and tasks you with destroying air, land and sea enemies while collecting power-ups and boosting your speed with special pick-ups. Two players can play cooperatively.
The game was ported to a wide range of systems shortly after its release in the '80s, with the Amiga, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST and PC Engine / Turbografx-16 getting ports. A sequel, entitled P4-7 Aces, was released on the more powerful Mega System 32 arcade hardware in 1995.

I had this on the Amstrad CPC 6128. It was one the better Arcade Conversions on Amstrad, up there with the Operation Wolf / Chase HQ Arcade Conversions
Oh my word, I haven't played this in years!
In the Japanese version, the enemies had Balkenkreuz and Swastika on their tanks and planes. I wonder if that's included?
Well...huh....SOLD!!!
For some reason, this reminds me how much I would love to see Flying Shark come across.
EDIT: Gosh... I really, really want a Taito collection on the Switch!!!
@Ooyah Flying Shark has been confirmed for Switch, as has Twin Cobra, Truxton II and Out Zone. M2 are doing the porting so it's guaranteed to be a great version. They've said they're planning on porting all of Toeplan's games.
Downloading it ASAP, played the heck out of this on Zx Spectrum and Amiga.
@OorWullie Hamster usually includes all versions of the ROM in their Arcade Archives so its very likely.
@Ooyah @OorWullie Yep, we covered that here: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2020/04/m2_is_making_a_stupidly_expensive_shooter_more_affordable_on_home_consoles
@Ooyah Good news. M2 are bringing Flying Shark to Switch (with others too!) It's one of my fave shmups too ^^
Another dose of average.
@Gerald Me too!!!
When will they release the arcade and SNES versions of U.N. Squadron? Those were great!
@Gerald Ha! Me too! Remember it looking very good but being almost silent in terms of sound...
Maybe it’s just me but I find the P-47 games tough as heck.
This makes me happy.
A nice obscure arcade title from Hamster! Will grab this gem! Sega take notice!!
@pipes Probably never as a) Capcom's games aren't part of the Arcade Archives series and b) UN Squadron/Area 88 was licensed from the manga series of the same name.
@antster1983 Well, the SNES version could be released on the Switch Online SNES catalog. Maybe Arcade Archives could work something out regarding the licensing. I’m curious as to ROI for these re-releases. Sure they sell ok to those of us who used to play them long ago but how well do they do with the millennials and younger crowds.
@Gerald Speaking of Chase HQ that is a game I would love to see.
had the zx spectrum game , was brilliant . ill definetley get this one.
That first stage reminds me of how much I want Hamster to bring Silkworm to the Arcade Archives.
Unfortunately all these games hamster keep bringing out I have on my Hyperspin setup. So find it hard to justify spending money on these switch versions. But the M2 conversions are a must.
@insertcoin2play Silkworm, wow I'd totally forgotten about that game. I loved that game on the Spectrum.
