The My Nintendo rewards programme hasn't been running all that long but Nintendo has already given the main site something of a makeover.
Almost every element of the site has been updated, with a new main page and refreshed sections for current rewards, points balances and ongoing missions.
There are also new animations on the home page which show your Mii character engaging in various activities, such as chasing coins, fishing, watering plants and playing on NES, SNES and 3DS consoles.
Along with the visual update, some new rewards are live as well:
- 30% off Affordable Space Adventures (Wii U eShop): 400 Platinum Coins (available until March 1st 2017)
- 30% off Metroid Prime Trilogy (Wii U eShop): 40 Gold Coins (available until March 1st 2017)
- 30% off Pullblox (3DS eShop): 150 Platinum Coins (available until March 1st 2017)
- 30% off Fallblox (3DS eShop): 180 Platinum Coins (available until March 1st 2017)
- 25% off SteamWorld Heist (3DS eShop): 30 Gold Coins (available until March 1st 2017)
Finally, Nintendo has introduced the ability to add Child accounts. It's possible to add up to five for each main Nintendo Account, and these permit users between the ages of 13 and 17 to use Nintendo Account services.

What happened to the the discounts on the month of your birthday? I've not received anything even though it's mine in a few days.
Everyone was clamoring for a My Nintendo site revamp. No need for them to add worthwhile rewards that people who care enough to collect coins don't already have.
I think some of the rewards are new too? There's a SteamWorld Heist one I don't remember seeing.
I miss Club Nintendo...
A nice looking website is no use if the content isn't there. It's like having an amazing looking cake but in reality it tastes horrible!
I think the makeover makes it more polished.
As for the rewards, the new rewards today are OK. Pullblox, Fallblox and Affordable Space Adventures are all great, but most fans will already have them. But for 30% with only 150-400 platinum points, that's a bargain.
Sometimes they want you to use 50 gold points for that kind of discount, which is a joke.
@123akis You could still enjoy the icing
Physical copies must have a reward
Why are the awards so specific? It is very rarely anything I am interested in. Why can't it be options like:
60 gold coins means 1 SNES VC game of your choice, or 80 for a N64 or DS game. Or 1000 silver coins equals £5 discount off your next eshop game, whatever it may be.
That would be great! By the way I am aware Nintendo doesn't have to do anything so I am grateful for any rewards scheme at all, but this scheme does exist and it is frustrating how it is being run.
I can't remember what the old site looked like... Saw it once on day one.
Fill ya boots folks. All PAL codes.

@Sakura Well that's Zelda Picross sorted! Thanks for that.
Couldn't get any more as on phone and had to delete the spaces and refill the last three digits manually.
I like the fact that it shows which points expire soon, and that it works on mobile again.
What happens to me a 15 year old who is in control of his own account? Do I get a child account now?
On the subject at hand, reading this always reminds me of the 600-800 platinum points I lost due to expiration a mere week before I discovered (should have known there was an expiration but never crossed my mind).
Slowly rebuilding them up through sign-ins to My Nintendo, eShop and Miiverse.
Still not much of interest as merely entices you to spend more money. Not gonna do that unless I really want something. Would have gotten then Metroid 3DS theme until I saw a video on it on YouTube and discovered it had absolutely horrible music not even from Metroid.
Just as a note, you also get 30 platinum coins each week for checking nintendo.co.uk and so on when you're signed in with your Nintendo account.
And I dread to check how many of my points expired as the clock struck 12 last night and December 1st rolled into town.
Anyone having any luck finding the three hidden Miis on the revamped website yet? I found one at the bottom of the Miitomo rewards screen but the other two still elude me..
I'll pick up Affordable Space Adventures but i'll still have 500 points to use up before the end of the month.
It doesn't even work for the standard WiiU web browser, I changed it to Chrome and it works fine (the previous layout was slow and horrible to use). Tbh though, I shouldn't have to do change the WiiU browser, Nintendo should check that their sites work on their hardware.
Thinking about it, why should I have to go to the web site if I'm using my WiiU, why can't they just intergrate it into the eShop (and on the 3DS too).
@Sakura Took the Mario theme ! Thanks for sharing
We may all miss some of club nintendo's features, but the fact that every gift is now in code format makes some great gift sharing in the community, just like you, for people that do not buy a lot of eshop games.
Thanks again !
Wow. The rewards can only get better.
I can only hope
The empty grey boxes where rewards should be looks a bit amateur.
I just lost over 1000 coins over night because they don't put uo enough rewards or at least much that isn't mediocre discounts, and now we get more discounts.
Maybe your glory days will be next year My Nintendo.
@Whopper744 I can totally understand how you feel. I lost over 700 points last month
If only the rewards got a 'fetching facelift', heh heh heh.
...Ahem.
Obvious jokes aside, new website looks pretty good. Sadly still only discounts for games I already have. But I suppose complaining about it on a fan site won't do anyone any good.
@Sakura Thanks! Grabbed the last in the list of Zelda Picross (ending 67RK).
Time to go check how many points expired yesterday.
And I'm glad they finally added kid accounts back like I had in my family account on Club Nintendo. Edited b/c I was duped by the article.
Hmm, I wonder since both kids already have their own accounts if I can even merge? I'll report back later.
I like the new Mii animations on the homepage. First my Mii was flying with balloons and now he is playing Donkey Kong on NES. I can click to turn off the NES and he gets mad. lol.
@rjejr a Let us know
@LandOfZeldtir 1 on the miitomo rewards section.
2 on the Nintendo child accounts.
3 Tap on your mii on the top right and scroll down.
Found the hidden Mii's only to be reminded afterwards that these coins will still never be used by me, and will most likely disappear into dust. MyNintendo is a tire fire that Nintendo won't put out. Thanks Ninty.
(3 hidden miis)
That's 50 additional platinum points to spend on those lovely discounts
You failed to mention that My Nintendo is now available in 153 territories, albeit most of them may heavily lack in content.
I like the new look and Mii's random actions. Rewards are better arranged now.
No games as always. Why should we bother?
@dizzy_boy - I totally agree. I pointed out to Nintendo a while ago that the previous site wasn't fully compatible with the WiiU browser and I was told that the problems would be reported upwards. It's ridiculous that Nintendo still isn't testing its websites on its own hardware.
You also make a very good point that we should be able to claim and manage points within the eShop.
I've already suggested this on another thread, but I'd like Nintendo to offer us downloadable soundtrack albums as rewards.
The soundtrack CDs were always very popular on Club Nintendo. I get it that Nintendoo wants to move away from physical rewards, but downloadable soundtrack music would be cheap and easy to provide, and greatly appreciated by many fans.
I'm losing more coins everyday My Nintendo can burn to hell
Are these UK deals on mynintendo? I want the Metroid Prime Trilogy discount for 30% but I can't see it. I've got enough gold coins for it, but all I have is a 'Just for you' offer of 20% off for 400 platinum coins.
Had to log on to mention that you can no longer access My nintendo from 3DS or WiiU browsers.What on earth are they thinking? The most idiotic misstep ever, make your rewards website incompatible with your own hardware.Well done....
A turd wrapped in nice cloth is still a turd.
Those jars are definitely a more aesthetically pleasing way to store all those points I won't spend...
@Fenrir6 I'm hoping it is just a little late. Haven't gotten anything on mine either, but I did get some on my Japanese account yesterday. (Due to timezones) However that was before the update.
Well it's more organized I can say that much. Hopefully they are planning to fill those categories up with more rewards next year.
On a slightly related note, I just realized 250 of my Mii/Plat coins have expired. Wish they can send a notification a day before that happens. I guess I just have to enter an reminder in the calendar for now.
Everyone hates the "paying for discounts" nonsense. What I especially hate is that it doesn't show the cost before and after. I myself have to look up the price of the game, and then calculate how much it costs with the discount. I don't bother with it, to cumbersome!
It's likely a sign they they are preparing for a more extensive overhaul once Switch releases. It's not unlikely they will start rewarding coins for physical purchases again with Switch if NES Mini is any indication.
Also those new discounts are pretty decent
@WillTheLion Both "rewards" are lame. I bought MPT when it launched(€10) which was far cheaper and it didn't cost me any gold or platinum coins.
@Wolfgabe You just reminded me that we got platinum points with the NES Mini Classic. Well I would have if they'd manufactured enough and I wasn't still waiting on a pre order from July. 300 platinum points is what you get for spending €65? Talk about being cheap and stingy. Nintendo aren't learning from any mistakes as far as I can see.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I think you hit the nail on the head there. People don't like paying for mere discounts, especially when those discounts aren't as good as ones that are given to the general public.
I mean, what's the point of even joining this "club?"
@SLIGEACH_EIRE you get 300 platinum points. Don't redeem it just yet. Wait for the more virtual exclusive limited edition costumes on miitomo you can get.
I heard but not confirmed that a basketball hat is coming to miitomo
@UK-Nintendo I was just checking that out before your comment as I wasn't sure if it was 200 or 300 platinum coins. It's still lame.
@Wolfgabe "It's likely a sign they they are preparing for a more extensive overhaul once Switch releases."
I'm pretty sure that's what every optimist on NL has been saying since MyNintendo launched. I'm amazed Nintendo got you guys to hold out this long.
@AfterAnAutopsy I am not being an optimist here it was pretty obvious from the start this was mainly intended with Nintendo's next gen platforms in mind
@SLIGEACH_EIRE it is lame.
Even better. Spend 50 pounds this Christmas and get a 1 pounds calendar. Lol
Scrooge is back
@UK-Nintendo
where do you find the child accounts?
@Wolfgabe Why and how is it obvious?
@Wolfgabe please inform us how it was obviously designed for a console we knew nothing about?
Such a pretty, shiny-looking nothing.
@Locke159 under news. New Nintendo accounts for children
@AfterAnAutopsy Maybe we didn't know anything about Switch but Nintendo sure as hell did. Do you really think they didn't really plan on integrating Switch with MyNintendo in some way or another? They aren't that stupid. It doesn't take a genius that MyNintendo in it's current state is mostly filler for the bigger plans ahead. Also I recall hearing a rumor a while back ago that hinted at an achievement like system that actually get's you MyNintendo coins. Foreshadowing much?
Also why do you think the rewards seem so medicore at the moment? Simple cause with Wii U and 3DS Nintendo doesn't really have anything left to offer hence why most of the time it's discounts on older games and such. Let's face it Wii U is pretty much dead and 3DS is probably on it's way out at this point. Also common business sense dictates they can't simply slap a big discount on a game that just released.
Remember how Xbox Live got a major upgrade when the 360 released. How is it so hard for you to imagine something similar might happen to MyNintendo when Switch releases. The problem is that we don't really know what exactly Nintendo's long term plan with this thing is. You people are just rushing to conclusions and thinking it will always be like this. You have to think long term not short term.
Eh, at least it's a shiny new coat of paint, I guess.
@Wolfgabe maybe because I've spent over $300 on digital games under the impression this was a rewards program for the present, not a year down the road when I probably won't have a Switch to benefit from this.
There's a very obvious reason why the majority of us aren't happy. We've invested in this just like we did with Club Nintendo, except now we're being offered complete trash for our hard earned money. Maybe you're ok with MyNintendo because you're not investing too much into it or you just don't care what happens to your coins, but don't think people are just going to be content with watching their money disappear.
When MyNintendo is still garbage in March go ahead and let me know.
@AfterAnAutopsy I havent really invested in it much because I am waiting to see what they do with it down the line.
"When MyNintendo is still garbage in March go ahead and let me know." Nice crystal ball you have there. This is your problem you are just assuming it will never improve despite the fact there is a lot of room for improvement and what could potentially happen in the future. Frankly I find there are other things worth more complaining about than a free rewards program.
@Damo should probably mention that the rewards are for Europe since it is separate from NA and Japan
@Wolfgabe " I havent really invested in it much because I am waiting to see what they do with it down the line."
Then don't speak out for the rest of us when you can't even see where we're coming from.
"Frankly I find there are other things worth more complaining about than a free rewards program."
Then go complain about better stuff, please, go away.
@AfterAnAutopsy Perhaps if you waited a bit before jumping in you wouldn't have as much reason to complain. I knew this was mainly a free rewards program so I made sure to keep expectations low. With any free service you can expect some sort of sacrifice or compromise.
Also that's rich telling me to go away when I have as much right to express my thoughts as anyone else on this site. So does that fact I think we should wait and see where this program goes rather than just dismissing it entirely simply cause of it's current state make my opinion irrelevant?
@Wolfgabe because I wasn't a member of Club Nintendo for like 7 years right?
Your point is irrelevant. I'm done arguing with you. See ya.
@AfterAnAutopsy MyNintendo is still clearly in it's relative infancy. It was somewhat premature to think it would be like ClubNintendo right off the bat. They mentioned they are looking into offering physical rewards in the future.
How exactly is my point irrelevant because I am not with the popular majority here?
If Nintendo was greedy with Club Nintendo, now is greedier with Nintendo Rewards. Only 20 and 30% with more than 50-100 dollars spent? Greedy Nintendo.
@FargusPelagius You can view the site on your WiiU. Just go to the settings on the start page, then scroll down to switch user agent and pick Chrome.
I've not tested the other browsers yet.
@Wolfgabe To be fair you are also making assumptions, it's more fair to judge it in it's current state than what you hope/assume will happen in the future.
@Paddle1 As I said we have no idea what exactly is Nintendo's long term plan for this program. I am not denying it leaves much to be desired. I just believe it's important to consider what it could be like in the future and how it could evolve not just what it's like now in it's current state
I wish Nintendo would have just keep the Digital Deluxe Program going at least you could spend that money on any game that you wanted instead of them putting up lame discounts, what happen to the free games with gold coins?
So is anyone else having problems downloading the themes? It keeps saying my activation code could not be recognized.
I got a new Zelda theme and three Zelda music videos. That was nice.
@Meowpheel I did too. After I spent 15 minutes trying to download the videos at the Theme Shop.
Flipnote Studio seems to be back up on the US site as a reward for 200 coins for anyone who might have missed it before.
@Fenrir6 Just got my birthday discount now so I think it should be available.
Still sucks
@UK-Nintendo Thanks or the reminder, I care so little about MyNintnedo these days I completely forgot since this morning.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Our profanity filter doesn't like that r-word. Please avoid using it. Thanks.
@damo
First line of the Nintendo news article -
"Introducing Nintendo Accounts for kids
Parents can now create Nintendo Accounts for children under the age of 13"
You only mentioned the last line about kids ages 13-17. I went on a long rant for nothing.
http://www.nintendo.com/whatsnew/detail/introducing-nintendo-accounts-for-kids
@UK-Nintendo
So I went to add my 11 year old son to my account. Nintendo wants to charge 50 cents to my credit card to do so. Since my kids already have their own accounts I'm not going to bother. I know it's only 50 cents, but I'm not going to get a credit card and type everything in for their lousy MyNintnedo.
From the Account page:
"Creation of a Nintendo Account for a child under the age of 13 requires verifiable consent from the parent or guardian managing the child's account.
Consent is verified by processing a small transaction using the parent or guardian's credit card.
Please note a fee of $0.50 will be charged to your credit card as part of this parental consent process.
After this credit card consent process is completed, you may create accounts for additional children without processing any additional credit card charges."
@rjejr I give up. I know it's not much but that is cheeky. 0.50 charge.
@UK-Nintendo thank you!
@Locke159 good luck spending it on something.
@gardevoir7 hahaha I remember doing that, but backwards. When the theme shop was new.
Good times.
Best part about the new layout - "Points Expiration" tells you when in the future how many of your points will expire.
Though it might as well just say "all" for me as I'm not using them for anything and I've stopped using Miitomo as it took up too much space on my 8GB tablet. Lost 500 yesterday, 2845 to go. I don't buy anything digitally apparently so no gold point to worry about.
OMG my Mii is going to go blind fishing like that. I didn't even know my Mii had an "O" face. Just make it stop.
@UK-Nintendo
im buying all those Zelda music, theme they added on the NA rewards
@yokokazuo I got them too! Sadly it's either games I already have or don't want .-. The only interesting one would be MHGen, but I still have so much to do in 4U...
@Locke159 lucky
@8bitforever i like to see my own eyes with Zelda on PS4, but i can't say for sure if it will happen, but i do agree the rewards are meh,
@UK-Nintendo
The charge is to cheeky; its common practice on websites to ensure that the person is actually an adult and not a child pretending to be one.
I've been disappointed with MyNintendo. Club Nintendo was truly great, just needed to be modernized a bit. The fact that I can't register physical games is a huge let down as that is what I normally buy, I like having a collection on the shelf. The rewards are just discounts on games that I already have or have little interest in getting. The rewards with Club Nintendo were usually unique to Club Nintendo, making it a real treat to receive it in the mail. I really felt like I was being rewarded for my Nintendo loyalty.
Exclusive rewards, not just games but the merchandise, can really help motivate consumers to participate in a rewards program.
My points have been expiring and I don't care one bit. Horrible rewards program. HORRIBLE.
If you are going to do something, do it right. Nintendo used to know this, but now they embrace the BS Sony and MS do, cause why not.
I hope they eventually offer physical rewards, & honor physical purchases, like Club Nintendo. I buy digital, but only if the game has no physical counterpart, or there is a significant sale on the digital version, over purchasing a physical copy. I'm not too thrilled on the possibility of Nintendo going all-digital on anything; I hope they don't on their next devices/hardware, or I probably won't be getting one. I know this is a free rewards program, & I'm not entitled to anything free. From what I've seen, the NS will use carts/cards, like the 3DS.
I hate it, because my computer's busted, and it says I can't access it now on my WiiU, the only way I can HAVE internet currently now.
It's bad enough Nintendo.com looks messed up on the WiiU browser now, because you can't close the drop down menu on it. Nintendo seriously... Why make websites that CAN'T WORK for your consoles? That makes NO SENSE!
Not everyone HAS a smart device, or PC, Nintendo! Gah!
@dizzy_boy cheers for that, got it working on my Wii U now.Really strange why they make no mention of this in the main browser, just apologises to Wii U an 3DS users for not being able to access it.Nintendo really need to up their game in 2017, this years been pretty trousery for them.
@SBandy No, you have a great point. If you are the type of person who bothers to use My Nintendo and gather up coins, chances are that you are the type of person who already has these type of games. It would be far better to give us a voucher that could be used toward anything.
@gcunit Seriously? That's a legitimate word. It's not a profane word. This world has gone PC mad. And I've noticed it's a UK/Ireland thing with that word. America doesn't have a problem at all with it. It really is annoying, oh you can't say that, you can't say this, you'll offend this or that group.
Not surprisingly, they forgot to offer discounts on any games here in Japan. Come on, NOJ, I'd very happily give you much more of my money if you gave us discounts on the games your counterparts discount in the rest of the world. Jeez.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Seriously.
@gcunit Do I need to quote the Oxford English dictionary? "Delay or hold back in terms of progress or development".
https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/nope
I used it as a verb. I described My Nintendo as being "...ed", which it is. Not as a noun. It is 100% legitimate as a word. What about variations of the word? Retardant? How is that offensive? Of course, if I was to use it as a noun and call someone here it then absolutely you've got a case but I didn't. I'm not arguing, I'm debating my legitimate point.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE This is nothing personal - applies to everyone: there's no point in discussing the profanity filter here. I have no say in what goes on the list, but I am asked to clean up any occurrences of the filter picking up a word, and in doing so it only makes sense to inform users at the same time to try and reduce future occurrences.
This is very much a case of 'computer says no'. The word 'buttercups' could be on the list for all I care. I'd still edit it out. I'm finding life's too short to mull over whether the context pardons it or not. If it's on the list, it's off the site.
What's the point
There isn't anything to expend even gold coins
@UK-Nintendo They will.
