Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's NES Library With Three More Games

@Flangela Namco submitted these games to be included and now was when Nintendo eventually added them. Namco can release NES games if they want. The process requires publishers to want to support the service. I don’t think many are submitting their games to be added right now. And as much as I’d want them to release games every week regularly, Nintendo is staggering their own releases too as they will still want to continue adding their games throughout 2027 and beyond. I would expect another update on the 24th.

I wouldn’t pay for Donkey Kong Jr Math, but I’d rather play it than some other NES games on the NSO.

@MontyCircus Mario themed educational games were released in the 90s though, although developed by other companies.

@Kiyata you can cross off the licensed games from your list. They won’t ever come to the service. Publishers don’t want to pay Disney or whoever for the rights to put games onto the service since they won’t make their money back from doing so. Quest For Camelot on GBC is a curious inclusion though as it’s based on a movie from Warner Bros.

@Uncle_Franklin Nintendo will want big name games to release throughout 2027 and 2028 too. They aren’t going to release all their big name games quickly with nothing left for later.

@DangoTown Fifteen years from now if the NSO is not carried over to the next console. You don’t actually absolutely NEED the headset to play the games; you can still play them undocked without it.

@Markatron84 Nine further games will be added during 2026. Exact dates unknown.

Re: Poll: How Would You Rate The Nintendo Classics Virtual Boy Launch Games?

@Ironcore will people even care 15 years from now? The Switch 2 has only just started and even at the end of a console’s lifespan they keep the servers active for ten years afterwards. And that’s if the NSO isn’t carried forward to the next console.

The only trouble I foresee will be when support for the NSO concludes and you are left paying for the service with no upcoming games to be added. But that’s too will be years from now and by then the NSO will have a much larger library.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined?

It doesn’t actually look that special for a new 2026 game. Until you compare it to the PlayStation 1 original and you can see how much of a makeover it recieved. Then it looks amazing.

I suppose a nitpick is that there isn’t that much exploring. I’m only on the Roamers island right now and it feels like I’m being shuffled from one story to the next without much in the way of wandering around and fighting, trying to get to the next story point. I’m playing on standard difficulty settings.

@The-Chosen-one They won’t do that. They will have release dates worked out for low profile games and high profile games. They will want high profile games to release in 2027, 2028 and 2029.

What I would like is to see an interview with whoever chooses the games to be released. I’d like to hear the process of third party support.

@BoFiS They have yet to release Japanese games on the Game Boy app for some reason and clearly aren’t going to start today. I think they prefer to release the original American version instead of a Japanese GB Color version. Donkey Kong Land 3 and Balloon Kid weren’t released in Japan originally, but were released in color on GBC.

Re: Review: Balloon Kid (3DS eShop / GB)

There are games on Game Boy worthy of being a poor 4/10, but Balloon Kid is much better than those. Of course I am going to rate an early Game Boy game differently to a later similar game. I’d rate it 6/10 for a product of its era. “Not bad” is a fair judgement for Balloon Kid.
