If I don’t plan on re-reading a book I just get it at the library. If I plan to read it more than once then I actually purchase it so I always have a copy.
@Digitamamon64 Heroes III is a masterpiece and dirt cheap on Gog.com. In fact, I introduced it to my wife and we still play it about 3-4 times a year. My daughter also loves it. Glad to find a fellow fan!
Splatoon and Into the Breach both make my top 5 from the last few years. My top 5 of all time:
1. Heroes of Might and Magic 3
2. Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past
3. Super Mario World
4. Splatoon 1/2
5. Into the Breach
Portal 1/2, Stealth Inc 2, Super Mario Maker, Advance Wars (all of them), Tetris Attack, Wargroove, Steredenn, Heroes of Might and Magic 2, Super Monkey Ball 1/2, Halo (all of them), Rainbow Six Vegas, Gears of War (original only), and Metroid Fusion are all also amazing and are right there. So many great games, so little time!
I do not understand the reviewers dilemma. They thought the game was boring but accomplished the developers goals so they didn't know how to score it. If I play a game, I make my determination on how much I enjoy playing it. Sure graphics, music, controls, etc are important and play into the enjoyment, but at the end of the day how much I like or dislike a game comes to my own enjoyment as I played. Games are made for entertainment, so if they are not entertaining to you they have failed in their purpose. Other people may get some enjoyment out of the game and that is fine, their reviews will reflect that, but your review should reflect your interaction with the game. If you don't like a game the score should reflect that. Perhaps admitting this is not a type of game you enjoy would be fair, but when you interacted with the game what did you get out of it? That's how I analyze each game I play and I'm not sure why you would take into account what others intended or got out of the experience into your review.
Why should I sell? I bought the game to play and enjoy it. There are no expiration dates on video games and it is sometimes fun to pull them back out and play them. If you need the space or money I can understand selling them, but on a whole I have often been disappointed looking back to when I sold my Nintendo games and that I can’t play them anymore. Recently, I went ahead and rebuilt my Nintendo libraries from SNES through Wii U and made a promise I won’t make the same mistake selling them off again. If you never want to play old games that is fine, but with the trends of buying the same games over and over becoming an ingrained trend in video games it makes a lot of sense just to buy an original copy and play it whenever you would like. In addition, I worry about the digital future of games, where old games are available only through an online service that charges monthly or yearly. We have seen that even with Nintendo with Nintendo Switch Online. While NSO is cheap now, there is no guarantee that it will continue to be in the future. I see less compelling arguments to get rid of video games I purchased than to just keep the ones I bought in great condition and enjoy them whenever I want.
I actually bought a Wii U when it first came out but sold it right before the Switch released. I did, however, end up in February going back and buying a Wii U and most of the best games for it from the Nintendolife Wii U Best Games article. I love the Wii U. The games are amazing and it is a ton of fun. Many games you can only play on the Wii U (on Nintendo consoles), from Batman Arkham Asylum to Deus Ex, to Yoshi’s Wooly World, Stealth Inc 2, and Pushmo World. I don’t think it is the best console ever but it has plenty of great games. I’ve enjoyed going back through the old games and experiencing ones I didn’t purchase when they just came out. Prices are cheap now for games and I picked up a used console for $160 that had a total of 30 hours of use from 2016. It has been a blast and made this COVID time a bit more bearable. I would recommend picking up all the Wii U stuff you can now while games and accessories are relatively cheap. In a few more years, with the limited supply of Wii U items to begin with, I can only imagine what all this will cost in the future. My hope is to buy all the Virtual Console games I can before the online store inevitably shuts down.
I like Dig but I love Heist. I would pre-order a new Heist game as soon as it became available. I have played Heist on the 3ds, Wii U, and Switch and I love playing it again as much as when I first played it. One of my favorite games of the last decade.
I plan on playing Murder by Numbers chapter 4 this weekend. I’m also finishing up the final areas of Super Mario 3D World and then I will try Bowser’s Fury. I will also probably get some Wii U Skylander’s Swap Force in with my daughter at some point.
I liked the first trailer and this trailer as well. I hope the game looks this good on the Switch. I’ll wait for the review before buying but I’m definitely interested. I wonder how many cars there will be to choose from and what customization options there will be on the cars? It would be really cool if you could design a custom car and then order an actual physical car from Hot Wheels to match.
As soon as I read the headline I thought of the song I Get Knocked Down by Chumbawamba: “I get knocked down But I get up again You're never gonna keep me down”
I’m playing Murder by the Numbers. I’m in Chapter 2 and really enjoying the picross puzzles and story. I’m also finishing Super Mario 3D World, then I’m looking forward to trying Bowser’s Fury. Finally, I’m playing Skylanders Swap Force on my Wii U with my daughter and having a blast.
I’m glad they want to release the game when it’s ready and not on some arbitrary deadline. I’ve been looking forward to this one and I have plenty of games in the backlog to keep me busy. Seeing the focus this developer is putting into making it a quality game actually makes me want to buy this game more.
On the Switch I’m making my way through Super Mario 3D World. A great game and I can’t wait to try Bowser’s Fury.
On the Wii U I’ve started playing Pushmo World which is great. I forgot how much I enjoyed that game. I’m also making my way through Deus Ex and I can’t believe how immersive the world they created feels.
I’m weird because I’m kind of both. I want GameCube games complete in box but SNES games I buy loose. I guess I don’t want the cardboard boxes cluttering up the house but I wouldn’t keep GameCube games loose so I want a nice case with the manuals and other papers. I think it comes down to nostalgia—when I was young I kept my SNES games loose and that was my experience growing up, so when I put a loose cart into my SNES system I am reliving those moments. But I always kept my GameCube games in pristine CIB condition so I want it like that when I play them now.
I really enjoy playing NBA Playgrounds 2 with my daughter. We have a blast every time. For that price it is definitely worth it if you like arcade basketball games (like NBA Jam).
I remember being really disappointed in the art direction of Wind Waker when it was first announced. As the Xbox ramped up realism the cartoon style really was jarring, and especially when you consider that the Wind Waker screenshots didn’t really do the game justice. Perhaps if YouTube videos were as ubiquitous as they are today it would have saved Nintendo huge headaches as people could see how fluid the cartoon style worked to immerse you in the game. I still purchased the game and enjoyed it quite a bit, and I really love the graphics in Wind Waker HD, so I’m glad I learned to be open minded about the art style and just see if I enjoy the game or not.
Absolutely. I have been playing Yoshi’s Woolly World and have nearly completed the game and found all the hidden items. After that I’m planning to get to Deus Ex and then Batman Arkham Asylum. I love the Wii U, though I doubt this update will make much a difference one way or another.
I’ve enjoyed all of the games above quite a bit and am looking forward to where 2D Mario goes next. As for me, my favorite has always been Super Mario World with Mario 3 coming in a close second so it was great to see that view reflected in this list.
I definitely enjoyed reading this article. I have spent the past few years reconstructing my entire Nintendo library, from the SNES to Wii U, which unfortunately I had sold off over the years. I wish I could go back and stop myself from selling all those games but the damage is nearly fixed after a few years. I’ve learned my lesson, when it comes to Nintendo I do not plan on selling games anymore unless I honestly HATE the game. If I tire of it I will safely store everything away and switch to another system until I tire of that system and switch again. There are so many gems on Nintendo systems and my fear is we are rapidly approaching a time where you will have to subscribe to an online service to have access to those older games or rebuy them at full price in a remastered version. We see it already with the Switch. While Switch Online’s price is not high there is no guarantee that it won’t jump in the future. And why pay for a service like that when I already bought the actual games to begin with? Further, why wait for Nintendo to release them slowly online when I can play them anytime? From here on out I will enjoy the collection I’ve built and I would recommend others do the same if you can.
I plan to finish the King Knight portion of Shovel Knight this weekend, and then continue my journey of perfecting Velocity 2x. I’m sure there will be some ranked Splatoon matches in there as well.
I’ve been playing Splatoon 2 multiplayer and Shovel Knight (the King Knight adventure). I hadn’t played the new DLC yet and I love it almost as much as the original Shovel Knight adventure itself. I’ve also been slowly making my way through Velocity 2x which is an amazing game. While not required, I love to play a level until I get awarded a Perfect medal so I often only play one stage for a little while. I’m currently about halfway through the standard missions so far.
I was just thinking how much I enjoy seeing what everyone else is playing. Perhaps there could be a corresponding article on Monday to see what progress everyone made over the weekend. Just a thought.
I would be very happy with the two Zelda games and Yoshi’s Woolley World, those games are all amazing. I would love to own higher resolution versions that are portable. I’m thinking a Nintendo Direct lays out what is coming after Mario 3D World releases so hopefully we will know what is coming soon. For my money, I’m betting on a focus on Zelda with the anniversary myself. Maybe even a weird Mario 35 type title with various challenges like speeding through the first Dungeon with 35 other players or something along those lines. A lot to look forward to this year.
Many of the titles I would like to see parted over are listed above (especially all the Metroid games). I have a few more i haven’t seen though:
I would love to see Portal and Portal 2 on Switch, and Team Fortress 2 would be amazing as well.
If those titles above mentioned aren’t asking for too much I would also love to see Advance Wars (all of them, even Days of Ruin which I greatly enjoyed) ported over as well. I would be perfectly happy with a new game of Advance Wars.
Finally a port of Yoshi’s Woolly World would also be amazing.
I'm downloading Pikmin 3 this week, but looking at this list made me realize how many games I've never even heard about until now. I hope Nintendolife can review some of the better titles, I would hate to miss out on some great games.
I'd be happy and buy it. In fact, I wouldn't mind having something along the lines of a Zelda All Stars on the Switch (or a Mario All Stars for that matter...). The more games the better. I would be very interested especially if they removed motion controls. I've never been into games that required motion controls.
I would definitely buy Super Mario 3D World, both Zelda games, and I would love to see Yoshi's Woolly World ported as well. If it is too difficult to develop new games during this pandemic than perhaps just plan on porting over the rest of these games to pad out the schedule. Surely porting these games would be much easier to accomplish than creating new games from scratch and provide quality content that is new to most people (all non Wii U owners). I'd be happy to have higher quality portable versions of these games.
Honestly just didn't see any games that I would even really consider purchasing. I'm glad for the people who saw some games they like. For me, however, after hearing only silence for so long from Nintendo to get only this micro Direct this was massively disappointing. I honestly just wish there were more to look forward to on my Switch.
I would buy an Advance Wars compilation in a heartbeat. I hope they include the 4th game (Days of Ruin). A new Advance Wars game is always at the top of my hopes with each new Nintendo Direct. Since Nintendo has been loosening their grip over some of their trademarks (Star Fox and Zelda have been used by other companies of late) perhaps a new company can bring the game back. It would be a wish come true.
Does anyone know if the game has been updated? Has the lag been fixed? Is the game now 60 frames per second? There are hints that these items were being addressed but unfortunately nothing here has been updated on whether that has happened or not. I've been looking at this game for awhile and am curious if it has been patched up.
I usually budget for the year based on the roadmap the Nintendo Directs lay out so I have money for the upcoming games I want. I’m sure I’ll still find some money for the Nintendo games I really want but at this point I’m looking to buy other stuff for entertainment. Nintendo is a company and does not owe us a Direct, but they should probably look at communicating with their best customers about what is going on. Overall, just disappointed with this marketing strategy.
For whatever reason the Wonderful 101 game just did not connect with me at all. I got it for free and I wanted to like it but I just didn’t find much there to enjoy. I am happy for the people who wanted a port of it to the Switch. I’m hoping that eventually all Wii U exclusive games eventually make their way over to the Switch. The Wii U exclusive games should be able to find larger audiences and can be enjoyed by more people even if I did not personally care for them myself.
I would love to be able to play Portal 1 and 2 again, and Stealth Inc 2 would also be great to have on the Switch. I don’t really like EA games but having an NHL game would also be welcome. Would love to play Rogue Squadron 2 from GameCube again in HD. Metroid Prime seems like a when, not if (or at least I hope so!).
I would love the chance to get a portable HD version of Yoshi’s Woolly World. That was one of my favorite games on the Wii U. I have the 3ds version as well but the diminished visuals really took away from the charm from the game.
At this point the only other Wii U games I really would like ported are Legend of Zelda Wind Waker, Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, Mario 3D World, Pikmin 3, and I would be interested in a Deluxe Star Fox that fixed the terrible controls. For non Nintendo games I also really enjoyed Stealth Inc 2, but I do not think they have plans to bring that to Switch.
Steamworld Heist is one of my favorite games. If you like turn based strategy games do yourself a favor and pick this up. I played Dig and got far but lost interest towards then end, but I bought Dig 2 on sale and really enjoyed it. I’m hoping they are working on Heist 2 but these are all great prices on awesome games.
I ordered mine today. I don't have a SNES classic and these look great. I'm looking forward to playing more SNES games with the Switch Online account. Thanks Nintendo!
@LinktotheFuture I still play Clash of Heroes once a year around Christmas. It is an amazing game and if someone hasn’t played it they are missing out.
Glad to see Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader for the Gamecube made it. I wish they could remaster that and release it on the Switch. That game was amazing and I would love to have it again and be able to have it mobile.
Happy to see that Fire Emblem is getting a good look in the direct, and I would think the new Yoshi game will also get a good look as well. Hope to hear about the game Nintendo said fans would love to learn about as well.
Would love to have a Portal/Portal 2 collection. I would gladly pay for those. Would love it even more if they got Team Fortress 2 up and running, that game was a blast!
I bought this with high hopes. I love the art style and the Advance Wars type combat. I'm not sure the computer is very intelligent however, and largely wins because it starts in key positions with lots of units while you typically start with little. It is a fun game and I think the multiplayer will make it significantly better since playing against another person will bring a challenge the AI does not. Overall a solid buy but it has its flaws. I am really looking forward to Wargroove, but I would love a compilation of Advance Wars games (Advance Wars All Stars?) or more preferably a new Advance Wars Switch game.
@Thaswizz I love strategy games. Recently the Switch has been great for them, including Bad North (real time strategy and a lot of fun), Into the Breach, and is the one you are thinking about Wargroove? That game looks amazing, though I have not seen a solid release date yet. If you are interested in another amazing strategy game check out Steamworld Heist, a turn based strategy game that is a ton of fun. The HD graphics on the Switch are a huge improvement over the 3DS version.

Re: Review: Pawarumi - An Amazing Shmup That's Like Ikaruga On Steroids
Does anyone know if the game has been updated? Has the lag been fixed? Is the game now 60 frames per second? There are hints that these items were being addressed but unfortunately nothing here has been updated on whether that has happened or not. I've been looking at this game for awhile and am curious if it has been patched up.
Re: It's Been 162 Days Since The Last Full Nintendo Direct, The Longest Wait Since 2016
I usually budget for the year based on the roadmap the Nintendo Directs lay out so I have money for the upcoming games I want.
Re: Rumour: Wonderful 101 On Switch Teased (Again) By PlatinumGames
For whatever reason the Wonderful 101 game just did not connect with me at all. I got it for free and I wanted to like it but I just didn’t find much there to enjoy. I am happy for the people who wanted a port of it to the Switch. I’m hoping that eventually all Wii U exclusive games eventually make their way over to the Switch. The Wii U exclusive games should be able to find larger audiences and can be enjoyed by more people even if I did not personally care for them myself.
Re: Feature: Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2020
I would love to be able to play Portal 1 and 2 again, and Stealth Inc 2 would also be great to have on the Switch. I don’t really like EA games but having an NHL game would also be welcome. Would love to play Rogue Squadron 2 from GameCube again in HD. Metroid Prime seems like a when, not if (or at least I hope so!).
Re: IGN Founder Offers Hint At One Of The Rumoured Wii U Ports Coming To Switch
Re: All SteamWorld Games Are Now On Sale On Switch, Up To 70% Off (North America)
Re: Feature: A Look To The Past - All The Legend Of Zelda Remasters And Remakes
I'd be happy with any Zelda remake. Having these gems on the portable Switch console is amazing.
Re: Reminder: Wireless SNES Controllers For Switch Online Can Now Be Purchased (North America)
I ordered mine today. I don't have a SNES classic and these look great. I'm looking forward to playing more SNES games with the Switch Online account. Thanks Nintendo!
Re: Mega Man Producer Reconfirms The Next Major Entry In The Series Is On The Way
I really enjoyed Mega Man 11 so I’m excited to see what new ideas they have for sequels. Ore games for the Switch sounds great to me.
Re: Twin-Stick Action RPG Inferno 2 Blasts Onto Nintendo Switch Later This Month
This game looks like a ton of fun and it is pretty cheap. Definitely checking out the review when it comes out.
Re: Feature: Best Nintendo DS Games
@LinktotheFuture I still play Clash of Heroes once a year around Christmas. It is an amazing game and if someone hasn’t played it they are missing out.
Re: Feature: The Best Movie Licences On Nintendo Systems
Glad to see Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader for the Gamecube made it. I wish they could remaster that and release it on the Switch. That game was amazing and I would love to have it again and be able to have it mobile.
Re: Nintendo Direct To Air Tomorrow, Wednesday 13th February
Happy to see that Fire Emblem is getting a good look in the direct, and I would think the new Yoshi game will also get a good look as well. Hope to hear about the game Nintendo said fans would love to learn about as well.
Re: Talking Point: How Do You Feel About The Metroid Prime 4 Delay?
Now Nintendo can focus on making an Advance Wars game while Retro makes the next Metroid game.
Re: Feature: 30 Third-Party Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2019
Would love to have a Portal/Portal 2 collection. I would gladly pay for those. Would love it even more if they got Team Fortress 2 up and running, that game was a blast!
Re: Tiny Metal's Free Multiplayer Update Has Finally Been Dispatched To Nintendo Switch
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 8th)
