Re: Review: Fast RMX (Switch eShop)

B238ben

This is the game I have played the most on the Switch so far (I have Zelda but am in the middle of Twilight Princess so am waiting on that one). This is an amazing game if you enjoy racing games. Definitely worth your $20 to pick up a digital copy.

Re: FAST RMX is Still 'Coming Soon' and Will Utilise HD Rumble

B238ben

This is one of my favorite racing games from the Wii U (also Mario Kart 8). I think the courses are fun and perhaps the difficulty level a bit too high but very enjoyable. I'm definitely planning on putting this on the system memory (I just bought a 200 GB micro SD card) as one of my first racing games. If you haven't tried it and you like F-Zero you should.

Re: Soapbox: It's Nintendo's Job To Make Switch A Success, Not EA's, Ubisoft's Or Capcom's

B238ben

Honestly, I'm probably the most excited the Image and Form has stated they will be developing for the Switch. I hope SteamWorld Heist (one of the very best strategy games ever) gets ported over and look forward to any new strategy entries in the future from them. Add that to the normal Nintendo caliber games (Mario, Zelda, Fire Emblem) and a number of other assorted games and I'm pretty happy so far. I hope a robust virtual console is launched and a number of other games interest me. I do hope the Switch sells enough to interest more 3rd party development but as of right now I'm pretty excited as is.

Re: Review: Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS (3DS)

B238ben

I didn't see it in the review (just quickly skimmed it--I'm at work) but does this game allow you to download online levels on the go for later? Does it allow you to do that in bulk (download 100 level challenge as well)? Just curious, this looks like a great game just trying to figure out the details.

Re: Talking Point: What We'd Like To See In Super Smash Bros. For Nintendo Switch

B238ben

I think this is the real reason why Nintendo had the voting for new characters previously. That has given them time to make the contracts with other companies and get exclusive characters they know people would pay money for in the Nintendo Switch version. Not that I'm complaining, I would love to see Shovel Knight in the Smash Bros game with a number of new stages. I'm looking forward to this one and to see how Amiibo work on the Switch in general.

Re: Preview: Getting Creative in Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS

B238ben

I'm most interested to hear if you can download significant numbers of courses from the online mode to take with you on the go. If I can download 100-200 levels this is a definite buy (I'm not always around the internet with the 3DS. By having this function I can effectively have an entirely new 100 course Mario game with me whenever I go somewhere which is pretty amazing. I'm looking forward to hearing more about this game!

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Game Cards Limited To 16GB Size

B238ben

I sincerely hope that Nintendo doesn't take that route, or allows for significant built-in memory that we could just download games and avoid the cards in the first place. I'm hopeful that Nintendo understands the situation better than to limit it to where technology currently is and instead are looking forward to where everything is going.

Re: Review: SteamWorld Heist (Wii U eShop)

B238ben

The only thing I am torn over is should I buy the downloadable version or the disc based version. One is cheaper and the other may well be more useful if my Wii U dies one day and I need to replace it easily. The game, however, is fantastic and one of the best out there for the 3DS (I'm looking forward to trying it in HD on the Wii U) if you enjoy strategy games.

Re: Interview: Image & Form Discusses Development Challenges and Continual SteamWorld Growth

B238ben

This is one of my favorite games released this generation. The game is addicting, the visuals interesting, the story well thought out, the puzzles randomly generated so always interesting, and you can attack with different players and weapons. The variety is amazing. I plan on getting it in HD to further enjoy this gem and encourage anyone who hasn't done so to try it out. If you like strategy games this will be very enjoyable experience, and I think many more would enjoy giving this game a try.

Re: 3DS Nintendo Direct Confirmed for 1st September

B238ben

I know my chances are limited, but Advance Wars (a new game, old games released playable on the 3DS, or a compilation of the old games as one new one) would make my day amazing. I'm glad that we have so much Fire Emblem recently, but a new Advance Wars would make this system easily my favorite of recent times.

Re: Soapbox: Why Websites Don’t Need to Give a Game a Review Score (and Probably Shouldn’t)

B238ben

I enjoy looking at the score. Does it convey everything perfectly? Of course not, but it does give a general idea of how the game will play. The idea that games cannot receive scores has some valid points, but then again the same arguments can be made against the opinion of how the game plays and therefore the developer should just always provide a demo and you yourself play it (a reviewer you trust may have a different opinion of how a game plays than you). In fact, why have any reviews at all? Maybe a developer should just put out demos and buy advertising space. A grade gives a person some understanding of where the game falls. I know I like strategy games so I understand a game with a 6 or 7 score in that category may still be a worthwhile purchase for me, but a FPS game with an 8 score might not warrant too much of a look. The game itself is good, but the score lets me know the overall quality of the product. The score essentially is being used to summarize the overall experience which makes it hard and leads to times that seem unfair, but to be blunt I wouldn't read a review without one. Does a school grade tell you everything about a student? No, but the general trend of how they score on tests is a good summary of someone's performance. Nothing is perfect, but I think this "fix" is worse than the problem.

Re: Nintendo Wants Mobile to be a "Pillar of Profit"

B238ben

Personally I don't like the controls on mobile games, I would rather have the actual buttons on a 3DS. However, it seems like the average consumer doesn't really care and this probably will grow to be a larger and larger portion of Nintendo's profit. I wonder if it will lead them to just become a 3rd party developer further down the road (which is essentially what they are in the mobile market).

Re: My Nintendo's Rewards Have Been Updated for May

B238ben

I'm just not buying into this new rewards system--the rewards are often the games I already own and the only thing I see myself doing with Miitomo is deleting it. I've been very disappointed with Nintendo's direction as of late, but hopefully better times are coming.

Re: Unannounced First And Third-Party 3DS Games In Development, States Nintendo

B238ben

It makes me happy to see how many other people want a new Advance Wars game---those games are my favorite. I would be equally as happy with a compilation game of all the Advance Wars games as one downloadable packet (like Mario All Stars) where you could select the game. That would take up so much time by the time I was ready to play something else the NX would already be here.

Re: Star Fox Zero Makes Modest Debut in Japanese Charts as 3DS Holds Steady

B238ben

Honestly I bought the game and haven't played it yet because of the control issue. I'm sure if I devote many hours to it I will get it and it will be good, but fixing something that isn't broken not the best strategy. On the other hand, I have enjoyed Star Fox Guard quite a bit and I hope people who are avoiding the controls will at least give that game a try.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Shakes Up E3 With No NX and a Focus on Legend of Zelda

B238ben

@joedick I'm not referring to saving money from floor space, but rather saving money by not investing in expensive games which costs far more. Cutting back on E3 would save them some money, but it is undeniable there have been game droughts on the Wii U, E3 last year was lackluster at best, and now this E3 there is nothing as well. Why is that? Because they saved money by not investing in new games when they could have earlier. My point was they made their profits higher by cutting costs, but now those cost cuts are being reflected in the upcoming sparse E3.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Shakes Up E3 With No NX and a Focus on Legend of Zelda

B238ben

I guess this is the long-term result of "making a profit" these past few years by cutting costs, it's the only explanation. In order to appease investors (who, in all fairness, actually have put money into the company) they have neglected the very way they make more money in the future (by making gamers happy). I have heard that tech giants like Sony and Microsoft themselves are struggling to make a profit but Nintendo has no choice not to make a profit from gaming--it's their main source of income and it seems like they are trapped. I hope for something amazing, that we are interpreting this wrong, that many amazing things will happen in the near future but right now it seems like the facts don't support anything like that. Perhaps the worst part is now with the limited Wii U install base taking the hit so that in the future the NX will be better, but missing the holiday selling season and not promoting your product when everyone is looking seems beyond illogical. It leads me to believe they just have not invested in future games. That is the biggest tragedy to me--the less Nintendo games out there and we are all worse off. I hope Nintendo recovers from this, but with decisions like these...

Re: Get Ready To Spend Those Platinum Points, New My Nintendo Rewards Are Live

B238ben

I have to say that I do not like the direction of Nintendo reward points. After the first day of downloading the Nintendo app on my phone I haven't touched it and with rewards like these I won't be too interested. I enjoyed getting games and I hope there are more things like that to come, but so far I am unimpressed with the direction of Nintendo. I understand why giving away digital clothing makes business sense for them, but I wonder about the long term interest of others in this regard (maybe it will work?). Part of the problem is probably how many different currencies there are in the first place and I honestly haven't made too much of an effort to figure it out. I'll hope for the best!

Re: Talking Point: The Great Star Fox Zero Controls Debate Highlights Important Lessons

B238ben

I'm starting to think all of these articles about Star Fox's controls are click-bait type articles that are filler until the game actually releases. These same discussions have been had before. Obviously some like the motion controls and some do not, which in itself is probably a pretty divisive thing considering the small user-base the Wii U currently has. Nintendo's smartest business decision would be to make everyone happy and offer both and alter the game experience to match that (it can't be that hard to delete a few enemies out of a line up so you don't need to use certain features, and perhaps add them in the waves on the forward end). I'm curious to see how Star Fox Zero turns out and will happily try the new control scheme but overall I'm skeptical; I do not enjoy motion controls and turn them off regularly. I hated the waggle of the Wii mote and played Xbox 360 games primarily last generation and will do so if this is Nintendo's future. If a significant portion of Nintendo's fan want them, Nintendo would be wise to include controls that appeal to those players; the opposite is also true. The fact that we are endlessly debating this proves it is splitting a limited install base and is not in Nintendo's best interest. I hope the game/controls are great, but I will be reading the review (on this site and others) very carefully before I spend my money.

Re: Soapbox: No, Star Fox Zero's Controls Are not Bad or Broken

B238ben

I haven't played this game yet but this gives me pause. I hated the motion controls in Splatoon and didn't enjoy it at all until I figured out how to disable them (now I love the game since I don't have to worry about motion control). It's the same reason I hated the Wii-mote. Clearly some people enjoy the controls and some don't, so if Nintendo were to pursue this course I would suggest they cater to both seemingly large audiences--a way to disable those controls and adapt the game-play situations to match the control style (much like how they adapted the 3DS Star Fox to match the different controls on that system) or for those that enjoy these controls to turn them on. In all fairness, I'm not sure Nintendo has a large enough install base on the Wii-U to make money off of games that split the limited fan-base.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Was Wrong To Turn Its Back On The Wii Remote

B238ben

The wii-mote was the single biggest reason that I didn't buy many Wii games and I played Xbox 360 more last generation than Nintendo. The controls felt imprecise and was not very enjoyable. The fact that Nintendo moved away from the Wii-mote is what kept my business, and I think Nintendo understands there is a large amount of people who agree because of how they treated the remake of Twilight Princess. I hope the wii-mote stays gone or at most becomes one of many options to control a game with in the future.
