Into the Breach for me. This is a great strategy game for those looking for an Advance Wars type game (you can't build units in this game like Advance Wars, but the strategy of using the units is similar and a TON of fun!).
I really hope they increase the speed the game plays at in the future, as the units seem to move really slow. On a more positive note, I really enjoy the variety of units and the tactical situations in the game and it is worth checking out if you have not got around to it yet.
This is the game I have played the most on the Switch so far (I have Zelda but am in the middle of Twilight Princess so am waiting on that one). This is an amazing game if you enjoy racing games. Definitely worth your $20 to pick up a digital copy.
Looks like a cool game. If it is priced appropriately (I always try to gauge how much $ per hour of gameplay I will get out of something I buy) I will probably pick this up. Honestly, with how little time I seem to have these days maybe I'll actually finish this one. I'm still working on Twilight Princess HD (enjoying it, but taking my time).
This is one of my favorite racing games from the Wii U (also Mario Kart 8). I think the courses are fun and perhaps the difficulty level a bit too high but very enjoyable. I'm definitely planning on putting this on the system memory (I just bought a 200 GB micro SD card) as one of my first racing games. If you haven't tried it and you like F-Zero you should.
@darth2d2 Sounds like a great game. I just recently began watching Hockey (not much of a sports person honestly, which is why I'm surprised I liked hockey as much when I began watching it this past year) and am not familiar with previous games. I'm all for more hockey games and hope they start coming this way.
Honestly, I'm probably the most excited the Image and Form has stated they will be developing for the Switch. I hope SteamWorld Heist (one of the very best strategy games ever) gets ported over and look forward to any new strategy entries in the future from them. Add that to the normal Nintendo caliber games (Mario, Zelda, Fire Emblem) and a number of other assorted games and I'm pretty happy so far. I hope a robust virtual console is launched and a number of other games interest me. I do hope the Switch sells enough to interest more 3rd party development but as of right now I'm pretty excited as is.
I didn't see it in the review (just quickly skimmed it--I'm at work) but does this game allow you to download online levels on the go for later? Does it allow you to do that in bulk (download 100 level challenge as well)? Just curious, this looks like a great game just trying to figure out the details.
I think this is the real reason why Nintendo had the voting for new characters previously. That has given them time to make the contracts with other companies and get exclusive characters they know people would pay money for in the Nintendo Switch version. Not that I'm complaining, I would love to see Shovel Knight in the Smash Bros game with a number of new stages. I'm looking forward to this one and to see how Amiibo work on the Switch in general.
I'm most interested to hear if you can download significant numbers of courses from the online mode to take with you on the go. If I can download 100-200 levels this is a definite buy (I'm not always around the internet with the 3DS. By having this function I can effectively have an entirely new 100 course Mario game with me whenever I go somewhere which is pretty amazing. I'm looking forward to hearing more about this game!
I sincerely hope that Nintendo doesn't take that route, or allows for significant built-in memory that we could just download games and avoid the cards in the first place. I'm hopeful that Nintendo understands the situation better than to limit it to where technology currently is and instead are looking forward to where everything is going.
I wish there was something new to buy. Oh well, another play through of Steamworld Heist or Shovel Knight should do. Hopefully the NX has some great games coming in the near future.
The only thing I am torn over is should I buy the downloadable version or the disc based version. One is cheaper and the other may well be more useful if my Wii U dies one day and I need to replace it easily. The game, however, is fantastic and one of the best out there for the 3DS (I'm looking forward to trying it in HD on the Wii U) if you enjoy strategy games.
This is one of my favorite games released this generation. The game is addicting, the visuals interesting, the story well thought out, the puzzles randomly generated so always interesting, and you can attack with different players and weapons. The variety is amazing. I plan on getting it in HD to further enjoy this gem and encourage anyone who hasn't done so to try it out. If you like strategy games this will be very enjoyable experience, and I think many more would enjoy giving this game a try.
I was just thinking this is probably their big push with the coming Christmas season in mind. I really do hope they release GBA virtual console for the 3DS. I would buy so many of those games to have them mobile.
I don't think it will happen, but if Advance Wars became available (a new game or the old games made so it would work on the 3DS) that would be epic. I know it probably won't happen, but it would make me so happy and the 3DS as the best system I have ever owned.
This looks great--I hadn't heard about it until now but I'm glad I looked into it. I like the top-down view and turn-based combat. Looks affordable and fun.
I know my chances are limited, but Advance Wars (a new game, old games released playable on the 3DS, or a compilation of the old games as one new one) would make my day amazing. I'm glad that we have so much Fire Emblem recently, but a new Advance Wars would make this system easily my favorite of recent times.
The best takeaway I had from this is that despite the current drought of games right now (especially for the poor Wii U) it does seem that they are very busy right now prepping for a great NX launch. Please don't mess up the NX launch Nintendo!
I was apparently one of the few who purchased Code Name Steam and while not a bad game it was not the best by any means. I have long been hoping for a new Advance Wars and can only hope that sales of Fire Emblem may make Nintendo consider another top-down strategy game (fingers crossed it is an unannounced 3DS game already in development).
I enjoy looking at the score. Does it convey everything perfectly? Of course not, but it does give a general idea of how the game will play. The idea that games cannot receive scores has some valid points, but then again the same arguments can be made against the opinion of how the game plays and therefore the developer should just always provide a demo and you yourself play it (a reviewer you trust may have a different opinion of how a game plays than you). In fact, why have any reviews at all? Maybe a developer should just put out demos and buy advertising space. A grade gives a person some understanding of where the game falls. I know I like strategy games so I understand a game with a 6 or 7 score in that category may still be a worthwhile purchase for me, but a FPS game with an 8 score might not warrant too much of a look. The game itself is good, but the score lets me know the overall quality of the product. The score essentially is being used to summarize the overall experience which makes it hard and leads to times that seem unfair, but to be blunt I wouldn't read a review without one. Does a school grade tell you everything about a student? No, but the general trend of how they score on tests is a good summary of someone's performance. Nothing is perfect, but I think this "fix" is worse than the problem.
Personally I don't like the controls on mobile games, I would rather have the actual buttons on a 3DS. However, it seems like the average consumer doesn't really care and this probably will grow to be a larger and larger portion of Nintendo's profit. I wonder if it will lead them to just become a 3rd party developer further down the road (which is essentially what they are in the mobile market).
I'm just not buying into this new rewards system--the rewards are often the games I already own and the only thing I see myself doing with Miitomo is deleting it. I've been very disappointed with Nintendo's direction as of late, but hopefully better times are coming.
It makes me happy to see how many other people want a new Advance Wars game---those games are my favorite. I would be equally as happy with a compilation game of all the Advance Wars games as one downloadable packet (like Mario All Stars) where you could select the game. That would take up so much time by the time I was ready to play something else the NX would already be here.
I would be happy with more 3DS virtual console games from the SNES and GBA. Those titles alone are worth a New 3DS, and the improved 3D stability is amazing (I used to keep the 3D switched to off on my 3DS XL).
Honestly I bought the game and haven't played it yet because of the control issue. I'm sure if I devote many hours to it I will get it and it will be good, but fixing something that isn't broken not the best strategy. On the other hand, I have enjoyed Star Fox Guard quite a bit and I hope people who are avoiding the controls will at least give that game a try.
Perhaps the only positive side to this will be that more New 3ds virtual console games could quickly/easily come out (SNES, who knows, maybe even the GBA games will make an appearance) to pad out the schedule. At this point, it's my only hope...
This is one of my favorite games on my 3ds, so I will definitely be purchasing this, it can't come out soon enough. If you haven't played this game you are missing out.
@joedick I'm not referring to saving money from floor space, but rather saving money by not investing in expensive games which costs far more. Cutting back on E3 would save them some money, but it is undeniable there have been game droughts on the Wii U, E3 last year was lackluster at best, and now this E3 there is nothing as well. Why is that? Because they saved money by not investing in new games when they could have earlier. My point was they made their profits higher by cutting costs, but now those cost cuts are being reflected in the upcoming sparse E3.
I guess this is the long-term result of "making a profit" these past few years by cutting costs, it's the only explanation. In order to appease investors (who, in all fairness, actually have put money into the company) they have neglected the very way they make more money in the future (by making gamers happy). I have heard that tech giants like Sony and Microsoft themselves are struggling to make a profit but Nintendo has no choice not to make a profit from gaming--it's their main source of income and it seems like they are trapped. I hope for something amazing, that we are interpreting this wrong, that many amazing things will happen in the near future but right now it seems like the facts don't support anything like that. Perhaps the worst part is now with the limited Wii U install base taking the hit so that in the future the NX will be better, but missing the holiday selling season and not promoting your product when everyone is looking seems beyond illogical. It leads me to believe they just have not invested in future games. That is the biggest tragedy to me--the less Nintendo games out there and we are all worse off. I hope Nintendo recovers from this, but with decisions like these...
The writing and action scenes were both great and I'm glad I made time to watch it. I wished this is how the game progressed from stage to stage in Star Fox, as it added depth to the story and more life to the characters. I would definitely watch more episodes of this if it were a show.
I have to say that I do not like the direction of Nintendo reward points. After the first day of downloading the Nintendo app on my phone I haven't touched it and with rewards like these I won't be too interested. I enjoyed getting games and I hope there are more things like that to come, but so far I am unimpressed with the direction of Nintendo. I understand why giving away digital clothing makes business sense for them, but I wonder about the long term interest of others in this regard (maybe it will work?). Part of the problem is probably how many different currencies there are in the first place and I honestly haven't made too much of an effort to figure it out. I'll hope for the best!
I'm starting to think all of these articles about Star Fox's controls are click-bait type articles that are filler until the game actually releases. These same discussions have been had before. Obviously some like the motion controls and some do not, which in itself is probably a pretty divisive thing considering the small user-base the Wii U currently has. Nintendo's smartest business decision would be to make everyone happy and offer both and alter the game experience to match that (it can't be that hard to delete a few enemies out of a line up so you don't need to use certain features, and perhaps add them in the waves on the forward end). I'm curious to see how Star Fox Zero turns out and will happily try the new control scheme but overall I'm skeptical; I do not enjoy motion controls and turn them off regularly. I hated the waggle of the Wii mote and played Xbox 360 games primarily last generation and will do so if this is Nintendo's future. If a significant portion of Nintendo's fan want them, Nintendo would be wise to include controls that appeal to those players; the opposite is also true. The fact that we are endlessly debating this proves it is splitting a limited install base and is not in Nintendo's best interest. I hope the game/controls are great, but I will be reading the review (on this site and others) very carefully before I spend my money.
I haven't played this game yet but this gives me pause. I hated the motion controls in Splatoon and didn't enjoy it at all until I figured out how to disable them (now I love the game since I don't have to worry about motion control). It's the same reason I hated the Wii-mote. Clearly some people enjoy the controls and some don't, so if Nintendo were to pursue this course I would suggest they cater to both seemingly large audiences--a way to disable those controls and adapt the game-play situations to match the control style (much like how they adapted the 3DS Star Fox to match the different controls on that system) or for those that enjoy these controls to turn them on. In all fairness, I'm not sure Nintendo has a large enough install base on the Wii-U to make money off of games that split the limited fan-base.
The wii-mote was the single biggest reason that I didn't buy many Wii games and I played Xbox 360 more last generation than Nintendo. The controls felt imprecise and was not very enjoyable. The fact that Nintendo moved away from the Wii-mote is what kept my business, and I think Nintendo understands there is a large amount of people who agree because of how they treated the remake of Twilight Princess. I hope the wii-mote stays gone or at most becomes one of many options to control a game with in the future.
Maybe they could use some of this money to make a new Advance Wars game? I hope they do at least (or at least a compilation of the previous games/or make the old games available on 3DS e-shop like they did with pokemon (yes, I have the games on the Wii U already, but I travel a lot).

Maybe it is a Switch sequel to Advance Wars. If not, then it just should be a sequel to Advance Wars or at least a compilation.

I hope the game/controls are great, but I will be reading the review (on this site and others) very carefully before I spend my money.
Re: Soapbox: No, Star Fox Zero's Controls Are not Bad or Broken
Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Was Wrong To Turn Its Back On The Wii Remote
The wii-mote was the single biggest reason that I didn't buy many Wii games and I played Xbox 360 more last generation than Nintendo. The controls felt imprecise and was not very enjoyable. The fact that Nintendo moved away from the Wii-mote is what kept my business, and I think Nintendo understands there is a large amount of people who agree because of how they treated the remake of Twilight Princess. I hope the wii-mote stays gone or at most becomes one of many options to control a game with in the future.
Re: Impressive Fire Emblem Fates Sales Ensure It Makes an Impact on US Charts
Maybe they could use some of this money to make a new Advance Wars game? I hope they do at least (or at least a compilation of the previous games/or make the old games available on 3DS e-shop like they did with pokemon (yes, I have the games on the Wii U already, but I travel a lot).
