How to scan amiibo
Just head over to the amiibo stand in Splatsville (almost directly behind where you spawn upon starting the game) and follow the on-screen instructions to scan your amiibo proper.
You may need to scan each amiibo multiple times (playing online battles in between said scans) in order to unlock every piece of gear an amiibo offers. It isn't much of a burden, but something to keep in mind.
It should be noted that none of the above bonus items are necessary to enjoy the game to its fullest, but they're fun perks and fashion accessories to enjoy if you happen to own any of the amiibo.

The Callie and Marie amiibo do NOT require finishing story mode for the armor replicas. They are available immediately. Edit - maybe this is due to importing Splatoon 2 data?
Pearl and Marina will only give you one piece at a time. I believe the second and third pieces unlock by using them again after reaching specific levels but I can't confirm. Shoes come first.
Inkling Girl (Splatoon 1) gives:
Squid Hairclip
School Uniform A (skirt)
School Uniform B (no skirt)
School Shoes + HI Socks
Base School Shoes
Gives 5 pieces total, but both versions of each slot provide the same primary bonus.
@Ashunera84 weird, for me pearl and marina just gave me all their gear in one. this may be bc I was level 5 tho
There are only about a dozen Splatoon amiibo and they couldn't even be bothered to give the different colored amiibo different gear? Lame for the people who own them all. I own 4 and 2 are of the girl.
I had a save from the time I borrowed Splatoon 2 from the library. I booted it up but never played it, my kid finished the single player, so when I started Splatoon 3 it said I was level 1 but it still gave me the 3 gold tickets and other items. Haven't tried the amiibo yet, my other kid hogged the game all day. They did pay half.
Not sure if this was anyone else’s experience, but after my son scanned them for his save file, I couldn’t get the free gear on my save file. Only one user per system, maybe? Did this happen to anyone else?
Smash bros inkling girl counts as splatoon 1 inkling girl (orange)
@mjharper Amiibo dlc worked for my two switch users on my console for Splatoon 2. Although, I don't have a family account anymore to test the scenario for Splatoon 3. I created a new switch user & booted up Splatoon 3 for the test: I scanned the amiibo, and the amiibo character said they'd give me free gear "if I was connected to the internet". I'd need a family plan to complete that. I don't have a family plan anymore.
Now, if you scan the amiibo, and it says it must delete that data on the amiibo, let it. The they're talking about the tiny bit of data stored on the amiibo NFC amiibo chip, which was just a gear & weapon preset. You have to allow it to delete the data off the amiibo for it to give gear to a new switch user.
I hope this maybe helps, if nobody else knows.
@Ashunera84 yo yo do u know the exact requirements to get all 3 pieces of amiibos for all of em? : )
@dario64 If you only get one piece of gear from the amiibo, I think you have to save a setup of gear & weapons to the ammibo. After that, if you scan the amiibo, I believe they will give you the rest of the gear.
My octo girl and octo boy amiibo gave me all 3 automatically. Splatoon 1 inkling boy only gave me the boots the first time.
@WoomyNNYes right on m8 thank u!!! & good luck out there lmao
There is an error in this article. The Pearl Amiibo gives two different crowns, the Pearlescent Crown L and the Pearlescent Crown S. They both have the ability Sub Resistance Up, since Cold Blooded doesn't exist in Splatoon 3.
Quick work after today's stream, Alex. Well done!
For those starting from scratch:
You get the first piece of gear when you first scan the Amiibo. The second piece is unlocked after winning (not just playing) 10 games in any mode. Turf War or ranked both work. The third piece of gear is unlocked after winning another 10 matches. At 5 and 15 won games, they will hint at having found something for you, but you only get it at the 10th and 20th won game.
You don't need to save any data to the Amiibo to get the gear if you're starting from scratch in Splatoon 3.
@mrmivo Thanks, man. 👍 Everyone got me thinkin' I just had to scan the amiibo to get all the gear.
I think it's a little excessive to force the player to play games when we've already spent money on the amiibo for the gear... I get it's to get players to actually PLAY, but it's pretty annoying, IMO.
