@Dizavid I have hundreds of games. Being able to organise those into categories such as 'completed', 'played and bailed', 'unplayed', 'cheap random buys', 'priority unplayed' etc will make deciding what to play much easier. I like to play just one or two games at a time to completion (or until I decide it isn't for me), and I've often started a 'lesser' game forgetting I had something potentially more interesting way down the list.
@MrGawain When Disney+ launched, I had to obtain their content from <ahem> elsewhere as they didn't want to sell it to me in the UK. I was all over that and had my preorder in for the service as soon as it was available here several months after the US launch. Your 'lack' of content was my 'loads' of content, and I have no qualms about the price or offerings on either of these two services.
I think I only ever rented a game once, when we needed another copy of Doom and Ridge Racer for link play on the PS1. It just isn't good value for money compared to either buying a game you're going to put more than a couple of hours into, or using a subscription service.
Subscription services could be better though. So many games are missing from the back catalogues (Nintendo, I'm including you in this).
@nessisonett Which version did you play? The Wii version might look a little rough, but the motion controls really make it feel much better. Being able to actually force push for example, can be quite immersive.
@Low_ink No, I would most definitely not consider nudity inappropriate. What could be more natural? Strong language is just language, an integral part of it and something that adds texture to characters. I'd much rather have this in games than the twee rubbish at the other end of the spectrum. I'd agree that it may not be appropriate for family consumption, but it has its place. Is virtual sin still a sin? Is it not sinful to kill if it's a cutesy enemy instead of the same pixels arranged in a humanoid fashion? Can games let you explore and deal with these issues in a harmless manner?
@Low_ink So no inappropriate content, just content you don't want/like. There's a difference. There's not nearly enough of those tags in Switch games imo.
@xmkbest The blaster is the bit that made the VR kit worthwhile, all of our family that tried it loved it.
All of the Labo kits were hideously overpriced for what they were. I'd much rather have just bought an off the shelf gun tbh, or at least a plastic slot/glue together one. My grandkids like it, but the blaster has taken a beating in just a few uses from them.
And all I wanted was black joycons. I hate the horrid colours these things come in. Couldn't get the grey ones when I first got my Switch, then the same again last year when I bought joycons, had to settle for garish blue and yellow as the least offensive option. It just reinforces the 'Nintendo is for kids' thing when there's no standard black/white/silver options like any other tech (or when there is, it's in very short supply, which rather indicates there's a demand for it).
It isn't the worst controller I've used, but that isn't really a high bar to reach. I think it's the worst Nintendo one I've used, but I've never tried a PowerGlove.
I think we can all agree that reintroducing analogue stick control with the N64 was a good idea, but everyone else that followed did it better.
Now if they can just flip things around, so the game is taking photos of boobs, butts and crotches, and I get to do some farming while it loads, they might have a customer.
Transparent hardware is hideous. Was it Apple that started the trend? I know they made it commonplace, but I always detested it. It looks cheap and nasty. My current PC has a big transparent window, it looks so tacky, but it was free and I didn't have the cash to work from home when lockdown hit otherwise. There would have to be no alternative before I'd actually buy a transparent system.
@kingbk Kids aren't just playing Minecraft and Fortnite though, that's just two of the big hitters. Add Roblox to the list for example. Kids will play whatever they can get their hands on, and they have access to a lot.
I've been gaming pretty much since it started, and it is sad to see some of the same tiresome arguments being made against games by mainstream media. I don't quite understand why it's still the case, when there are so many of us now like me in our 50s and 60s. We're the adults, we're playing games, it's as normal as watching a movie for us, so why do these odd views and stereotypes still persist. Sure, I meet the odd person around my age who strangely thinks games are for kids, but they're absolutely a minority. Stranger still, those individuals have no problems with football, a game where kid players vastly outnumber the adults.
Regardless, it's nice to see an article with a different viewpoint.
@Rambler I think it's more likely to have been created by a clickbaiter. These people will make up all sorts of random stuff and outrageous claims so you'll click through. It's all about page views and advertising, getting those numbers up to generate revenue. That so much of it is blatantly fake to anyone with half a brain doesn't matter - those stupid enough to believe will click it, and those curious about the latest bit of nonsense will also click through. I've done it myself, followed a link for a story on some daft claim, just to see how deep they'll go with it.
Shadow Gangs has been in development for years, it's taken a lot to get to this point and it's much refined. Clearly riffing on arcade faves and not afraid to be silly with it, this goes straight on my wishlist. Really glad to see the dev make the leap from PC to Switch with this one.
When I go to the local shop and crows have gathered on the wall, it never fails to give me flashbacks to the first game. I think I may have RE PTSD, but for that reason I vote for Japan.
Gold is the least worst, since calling any a favourite would be pushing it. The Pokemon one is a hideous abomination, but it must have been a popular choice for parental buys since it always seemed to be the variant I'd find in charity shops.
@Heavyarms55 Fallen Order gameplay is dreadful, so you're not missing much. Watch a condensed version on YouTube, since the best bits are stories of the enemies you come across.
If you really want to play it, be prepared for small environments, made to feel smaller by annoying and obstructive elements put there purely to get in your way and slow you down, not because they're fun to navigate.
Combat is ok, but the game is mostly one of exploration, so the above really puts a dent in things. That the player character is utterly unlikeable with a face you'd want to slap doesn't help it either. Your mentor is miserable too. The sidekick pilot is entertaining, but given very little to do, despite having the best voice actor.
I think I paid £35 for it and it didn't warrant it. It's pretty, but pretty dull. Tbh, if it wasn't Star Wars, I'd have binned it off long before the end, but it feels very much like a game I tolerated rather than played.
Dig out the Wii and get The Force Unleashed on, it's far superior in everything except visuals.
I pretty much stopped reading/watching most gaming 'news' a few years ago. It doesn't matter to me what I might be able to play in future, or when that may be.
I focus on reviews of what I can play now. It's much more satisfying to enjoy what I have instead of wishing for something out of reach, whether that's physically or technically.
Fingers crossed Rare (or at least their IP lawyers) don't stomp it out of existence. Traditionally they've been accepting of homebrew, but who knows how it will go with a cartridge release being sold.
This was in development on PC for years. It changed a lot in that time, for the better imo. I'm really pleased to see it make its way beyond PC to consoles where it seems like a perfect fit. At the right price, I can see it doing very well.
No mention of Oric Trek, which features some of my favourite cover artwork. Not strictly speaking a licensed game, but such things didn't really exist then.
I'd got stuck when I was playing a few months ago. Making room for new downloads, I thought I'd give it one last try and breezed through to the next save point this time. Close to the end now, so should get it finished this weekend.
It must be great being a Smash player, since all Nintendo seems to do these days is create more characters for it. I'm not a fan of the game, but I'm sick to death of these announcements constantly popping up in my feed. It'd be great if you could just tag specific games as 'not interested' so you could just ignore this 'news'.
I wonder what they could have produced instead in the time they've wasted on all this DLC for one awful game?
It might be a great port, I'm perfectly happy with how it looks, but the gameplay in every version means I won't be buying it. Push forward combat isn't for me, it just doesn't feel like Doom any more.
It's the old Catch 22. There's not many adult games on Nintendo hardware, because there aren't many adult games on Nintendo hardware. Someone has to break the cycle. I'm in my 50s now and have a Switch as it's the only current handheld system. If there was another system that gave me handheld access to the Sony/Microsoft catalogues, I'd probably have that. I'm here for the games, not who makes them, but I do wish Nintendo would acknlowedge that some of us have grown up.
@Branovices In the middle of a pandemic, with a history of poor videogame movies, with Mortal Kombat in particular being a notable example of such, we're a long way from 1995.
I enjoy a hokey videogame movie myself, I have a collection of DVDs that would surprise you on that topic, but fighting games are generally the worst for translation to the silver screen. The best of the bunch imo would be Dead or Alive, but it's a long way from acceptable to a mainstream audience. Best to look toward other genres with a bit more to the plot than 'these people fight each other one on one'.

@DioBrando The 200 limit means I'll need two groups for my 'unplayed games', it's nowhere near enough.

Re: Talking Point: When Was The Last Time A Game Cracked Your Top Five?
Probably a couple of years ago, when Skyrim on Switch finally clicked with me and smashed Breath of the Wild into oblivion.
Re: The Iconic Action-RPG Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance Is Out Today On Nintendo Switch
I only ever played the GBA version, it was pretty good.

One of the few good Star Wars games. It's dated a bit going back to it now, but the core of it is decent enough. I'd buy into it again.
