The indie platform fighter known as Fraymakers has just reached its Nintendo Switch stretch goal on Kickstarter.
The game is being developed by McLeodGaming - the creators of Super Smash Flash 2 (the most popular Smash Bros. fangame on PC) - and features a cast of famous indie characters, detailed themed stages and a massive selection of assists from various other indie hits.
There are representatives from games such as Downwell, Rivals of Aether, Slap City, Slay the Spire, and BIT.TRIP. Some of the assists include Lea from CrossCode, the Ape from Ape Out and Captain Viridian from VVVVVV.

In addition to this, it includes a powerful external editor. However, in these early stages, it's unclear how exactly this will work with the Switch version of the game. There is also rollback netcode.
If you show your support for the Kickstarter, you'll be able to select from either a Switch or Steam code. The Switch version is expected to be released sometime after the Steam version is completed. The Early Access period on PC begins in March 2022 and is expected to be in this phase for up to two years.
So, what do you think? Do you like the look of this upcoming indie brawler? Comment below.

Unless Pizza Tower releases on Switch or Peppino makes a cameo in Antonball Deluxe this will be Peppino's Switch debut, correct?
Smash Flash 2 is one of the best Smash experiences out there, so I'm beyond excited for this. The only thing on Kickstarter I've ever backed.
Also rollback netcode.
Anyone does what Nintendon't.
It's weird seeing Fishbunjin here when Slap City is already an extremely competent Smash-like game that's already out and available.
@Yellow I wish more games utilised what Arms had...I still don't understand why that was the only game with rollback.
As long as it has a good adventure mode in addition to the multiplayer/online brawling I’m interested.
@SnackBox For sure I had an amazing time with ARMS online while Ult's awful netcode was one of the main reasons I dropped it for Melee. It's defo a shame.
I wonder if alpharad’s fanbase had anything to do with the boost in funds. He’s gonna be an announcer as a stretch goal amd he endorsed the game a few days ago.
I'm going to stay... cautiously optimistic on this one. I'm glad to see McLeodGaming making their own game, but it's Kickstarter, so I'm always wary of games funded there by default.
Oh man, Super Smash Flash was fantastic back in the day. I’m really quite optimistic about this one so let’s just hope it’s not another Bounty Battle.
This looks nice I hope it does well. Hopefully there’s more than just 6 playable characters out the gate tho.
Tempting for Commander Video.
@darkswabber Yeah most definitely because of Alpharad
Is "Smashlike" a thing yet? I feel like I've seen a dozen or so of these in the last year or two. Not just brawlers, but specifically brawlers with big rosters pulled from various indie games and media.
@JasmineDragon "Platform fighter" is the generally accepted term.
Man I loved Smash Flash 2 back in the day! it was a fun alternative to Smash Bros. I could play at school before going home to play the real thing, definitely checking this out when it launches
I’m probably never going to touch Fraymakers, but I hope that the game does well!
If it has more characters and a single player aspect I'm in. Will be my first platformer fighter other than Smash.
I hope this game is so good all the cool people play it instead of Smash so internet commenters can go back to their Knack 3 jokes.
Not seeing Shovel Knight confirmed is equal parts weird and refreshing after seeing him pop up in so many other indie titles.
Day one for me I love smash flash.
This is so cool, I'm in!
@Noid I really hope PT comes to Switch, I've played the SAGE 2019 demo and it was great fun.
@JasmineDragon
It's already a thing ... Brawler. Technically it predates even the original Smash as a fighting game where there are more then 2 players at the same time, that type of game was almost always called "Beat'em'ups" until the 2008 release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Briefly there was a bit of effort put into calling games involving existing IPs brawlers and original IPs beat'em'ups, but that didn't last long.
::raises hand ::
:: stands up abruptly; back of knees smash into front of chair and knock it flying backwards ::
I HAD TO LOOK UP WHAT ROLLBACK NETCODE IS.
@TheLightSpirit aren't there currently some flash archive software that many can use to save flash based games? I know Ruffles is one.
@darkswabber I knew it before, I play Flash 2 for like, 4 years now.
@Jayofmaya There will be another character because of the goals.
I think it's: Ori, Shovel Knight, A Brawlhalla Character (Bödvar or Ragnir), Hat Kid, Sans (Yeah I will do that pick), Yooka & Laylee, Meat Boy and a Newgrounds character or a Nitrome character representing Flash games.
I want any of them
An indie clone of a game I detest. No thanks.
@Kriven
Today ...
My point is that when Smash came out everyone called it a beat'em'up, and the also called the few clones that, then around 2008 it shifted to people calling them brawlers. Kinda like how when Metroid CAME OUT, we called it a side scroller and only switched to Metovainia later? Its like ... over time things change or something.
So the word for "smash like" is brawlers.
@Kriven
Cool story, bro
@HeadPirate Beat 'em ups are side scrolling games where you fight enemies instead of jump (examples: Final Fight, Simpsons Arcade, Golden Axe, Turtles in Time), Brawler is another word for a beat 'em up. Smash is a platform fighter, a spin on the fighting game genre - which DOESN'T side-scroll and has HUMAN-controlled enemies
