"The original N64 pad used a spindly, digital(?) joystick"
I'm sorry, I can't help myself.
I love my 8bitdo 64 controller! I agree with Ollie, that the right trigger should be R instead of another Z, as pulling Z with the right hand is never called for without the possibility of doing the "crossover grip" option of the three pronged OG. I have the same issue with the little two handled Hori 64 pads that everyone else seems to like.
lol sure, but it still has zero to do with "innocent until proven guilty" 😊👍
just like Twitter banning Nazi propaganda had zero to do with "freedom of speech."
im over the outrage too but everyone is still entitled to their personal opinion. and, unfortunately just saying "these costumes look horrible" doesn't register a blip with the people responsible.
"Retro FPS" would actually be an accurate description though itll never stick because it is an accurate usage of the term "retro" and gamers hate that for some reason.
The people here saying they are called Boomer Shooters because "things go boom in them" are really grasping at straws.
That being said, I'm off to play some Boomer Gear Solid, Boomerpunk 2077, and of course, Boomerman.
PS - John Carmack is 55, very much not a boomer.
PPS - I completely memory holed Killing Time but that was definitely among the many "edgy" PC games I would peruse at the mall and dream of having a computer powerful enough to play, and a mother who would allow it 😆 onto the wishlist it goes! 👍
i was speaking about the Switch 2 era, not about this game coming to Switch 2 per se. I see how my wording sucks, though. ✌️
I don't have specific examples to present to you right now as evidence, and if you disagree, that's fine. I've been pointing it out along the way.
This is a port of a 6/10 (according to pushsquare) PlayStation game, and according to the body of the article, came out multiple years ago. yet, the headline reads
"Cult Classic 'The 7th Guest' Is Getting A Full Remake On The Switch"
if you don't agree that that is a misleading headline, that's okay. it's not the first I've noticed lately by a long shot, and ive been following this site long enough to detect the change. You can still see the more balanced style of writing on TimeExtension.
to be fair, the staff has almost completely turned over here in the last couple years, so some changes must be expected. ✌️👍
Speaking for myself, I'm noticing a lot more of a "Switch 2 vacuum" than I did in the switch 1 era on Nintendolife in particular, where headlines and terms are tweaked to make things seem more special/exclusive to Switch 2 than they really are.
Where there was palpable joy and celebration in the prior generation there tends to be something like desperation, equivocation, and toxic optimism now. As a Nintendo fan, this generation saddens me.
kind of odd seeing a controller that is clearly not meant for Nintendo consoles, and also not recommended generally despite the incongruity, being reviewed on here.
EDIT - those look like normal sized buttons, to me.
EDIT 2 - Now that Anbernic has done a (horrible) gamepad, it's time for 8bitdo to design a (fantastic) handheld 🥳
I've yet to see a Starship Troopers related piece of supplemental media that demonstrates that its creators actually watched and understood the message of that movie.
"These digital collectibles can be picked up every day by simply logging into the app and heading to the relevant section on the home screen. There are 40 to collect in total, and you've got until 1st June to nab 'em all.

"It feels as if the simple graphics were a design choice, rather than a trade-off of some kind. The game carries a kind of child-like joy, and the simple, cheery nature of the graphics kind of suits that."
I would have completely assumed that were it not for the passage I quoted from the review in my prior comment 👍 nothing at all wrong with how the game looks, in my mind! and I would assume a game like this would run essentially perfectly on a console like the Switch 2. Or Switch 1. Or Gamecube lol.
(F zero GX ran at 60fps in 4 player split screen, so I consider at least consistent if not 60 fps a "no excuses" minimum 25 years later. call me crazy 😂)
"I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, if you go for it!"
thanks! I will report back after I play, if I remember 😊👍
'Its environmental design is basic with minimal textures, helping to ensure rock-solid performance with seamless navigation and practically zero frame drops."
1) I've never heard the term "textures" used when referring to sprite based games. We assume the writer intends to say "minimal detail." ✌️
2) is this the extent to which a dev must go to get truly smooth performance out of the Switch 2? it reminds me of the F zero X / Tobal no 1 days of trading texture mapped polys for 60fps.
there's a bit of "damning with faint praise" going on here, imo.
3) looks like a great game! totally up my alley, have added it to my Steam wishlist. 👍 (here's hoping the Steamdeck can handle it 😂🤞🤞)
thanks for the review, not sure how i missed this one before! 😊👍
Forgotten, indeed! I'm not sure I've heard of that one, ever! which is pretty rare for me regarding that era, to be honest! 👍👍 thanks I'm buzzin on this, gonna check it out!!
we have a similar history, kind of. I'm 40, and my grandpa brought home a NES around 1988. it was the first time I'd ever heard of "Nintendo" and Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros were the first two videogames I ever played. I was hooked!
I was 10 when SM64 came out, and the graphics and sound alone would've won me over. OTOH, i totally get your perspective, as I strongly prefer 2D mario over 3D, despite how much I love some of the 3D games!

I did play it when it came out. I dont like the transformations, like at all. I didn't like them in Yoshi's island when I was 10, either. in both cases, they seem completely forced and don't really add anything to the gameplay, in my opinion. I also thought the "real people" city was a huge mistake and not "weird" in a good way, more "weird" in a "what are they thinking?" kind of way.
I didn't have a Switch yet, and when I did get one a couple years in, my memory of playing Odyssey just wasnt positive enough to put down the cash. I'm not saying it's a bad game, it's just not what I'm looking for in a Mario game (which is a focus on platforming, and a balanced, thoughtful and finite set of powerups used throughout the game in creative ways.)
My favorite 3D Mario games in order are 64, Galaxy 1+2, and 3D land/world. These are games that I started when new and immediately knew I would be 100%ing them.
I'm not so much a fan of sunshine, either, but they showed restraint not putting googly eyes on FLUDD, I'll give them that 😂👍
well good news! the new NSO channel is called "the 8 or 9 worst early gameboy games" but its going to require the premium subscription tier and a special add on to play it. 😂✌️

if Nintendo did "monetize Mario's jumps," there would be people on here defending it in the comments.

YES. a timesplitters trilogy remaster would be fantastic! or at least 2, as that's the one I fondly remember and still sometimes play.
I think Woody Harrelson's character from Natural Born Killers deserves some credit too, maybe.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Tired Of The Talking Flower Yet?

feel free to disagree ✌️ what I'm saying is they are the same company that designed some of my favorite characters ever, and this one is not that.
fwiw there is no theoretical limit to how many lesser designs they can also produce. it's a big company lol 👍
Re: Talking Point: Are You Tired Of The Talking Flower Yet?

are you under the impression that I said it was their worst character design ever? 🤔
Re: Talking Point: Are You Tired Of The Talking Flower Yet?

yes the hat is also below them lol. we arent grading on a curve, here 😂👍
Incidentally that was the first Super Mario game I did not buy, ever.
Re: Talking Point: Are You Tired Of The Talking Flower Yet?
even as a small child i wouldve perceived this flower as cloying at best, patronizing at worst.
generally, the character design is below them. why not just call Toad "talking mushroom," or Mario "Plumber?"
Nintendo was better when they stuck with "family friendly" as opposed to "obviously just for children."
