Re: Nintendo Music Adds Another Zelda Soundtrack, Here's Every Song Included

-wc-

played this a bit, honestly found myself wishing it were just a straight remake of LttP. Traded it quickly which was a mistake in hindsight but in the moment I wasn't enjoying it and there were other games I wanted to try.

I also wish theyd have done the links awakening remake this way, instead of the "playskool" look they ended up going with.

Re: Amazon Pre-Order Listing Puts Pokémon Winds & Waves At €80

@gcunit

"I'm sticking with my pre-order, because I love Yoshi games, and will judge for myself whether the price paid turns out to be regretted or not. If it burns me, I shall very likely withdraw my custom from many new games until I can pick them up used or heavily discounted in a few years time. My collection will keep me more than busy and I'm not particularly keen on the idea of getting gouged as a reward for all my support over the past 10 years."

replace "Yoshi" with "Zelda" and youve got exactly my perspective approaching the release of Tears at $70.

Yada yada, I haven't bought a Nintendo game since. 😕

"Free-to-start is fine IF buying the full game is a one-time cost. If it’s a subscription or filled with microtransactions (or both), then yeah it sucks."

i agree, but i wish they'd just say "game costs $X, and there's a free demo" if that was the case. "free to start" definitely makes me think it's not a straight forward purchase.

I've been meaning to give Burnout Paradise (and the Burnout series in general) another chance, I'm glad you brought it up!

I know what you mean about the "tetrislike" effect with GX, well said! I have ADHD and when I play GX (and Ikaruga, and Tetris... and I'm sure others) I get in a sort of flow state that I find very soothing. it's the rare time I ever feel that all my faculties are actually lined up and working on one task.

Re: Square Enix Wants To Further Promote Its Multi-Platform Strategy, Especially On Switch 2

-wc-

I don't recognize my favorite pub/dev of the PSX era. I personally think they were at their best when they focused primarily on one platform, be it SNES or Playstation.

PS if you don't like all the comments about game keycards, blame the company that created them not the fans that just want to buy and enjoy their games.

PPS - if you REALLY don't like them, start hitting the ignore button on every GKC complaint you see. before long, you will see none.

OR, accept that the other users are actual humans with their own priorities and motivations, and not simply objects for your online amusement.

@RadioHedgeFund

"It’s like when people complain about the Mario movies also having a paper thin story. They’re not adapting War and Peace here."

They have no excuse when they had the Paper Mario/SMRPG games as precedent. The popular idea that they couldn't have done better is sad for Nintendo and the fandom.

@HalBailman

I have 100% all fzero games* (besides 99 of course but I don't count that one) and I think they are all three absolutely perfect! every track, every race is an absolute screamer 😂

Now that I think about it though, I agree though that X would benefit more than GX! But I'm still generally against remakes, especially of games I consider already perfect 😁

EDIT - *not the handheld ones either

Re: Nintendo To Counter Switch 2's Global Price Hikes With Robust Software Lineup

@HalBailman

I get what you mean! It does imply some degree of severity, and I think where we diverge is over that subjective term. In my mind, 10% all at once is a hike, because a gradual price increase would be, say, 1% each month over a span of 10 months.

Anyway! I'm always glad to talk about words 🤗 And, specifically the concept of word fatigue. I've come dangerously close to making a forum post on the topic many times, but I'm trying to be a little less "on brand" lately. failing today obvs, but lately yeah.

@jsty3105

Thanks for being down to explore, you obviously don't have to prove anything to me and I just enjoy kind of stress testing different ideas, including/especially my own 🙂👍

FWIW - I know the Machine doesnt replace the Deck, what I meant by "effectively" was that you cant buy a steamdeck right now, Valve isnt talking about the steam deck OR a Steamdeck 2 right now, and they ARE talking about an upcoming home console release in lieu of a handheld.

OTOH i agree that at this point the Machine won't be able to come in at an MSRP low enough to really be anything but a niche product, which is unfortunate because I want one but I'm not spending 700+. I feel very lucky to have gotten my Steamdeck when they were 320.00, right before they disappeared completely. ✌️

I would argue that the growth potential in the handheld space doesn't at all negate the growth potential that I can see in the "not outrageously priced home console" space. We are in an era of austerity and it seems that that is causing a fearfully conservative and unimaginative sort of group-think in the fandom (not pointing that at you, just a general observation,) but I truly dont believe that somehow nobody wants a ~299.99 dollar home console anymore.

Re: Nintendo To Counter Switch 2's Global Price Hikes With Robust Software Lineup

-wc-

@HalBailman

"Please, I'm tired of the word "hike". Not everything is a hike regarding prices. I don't regard approximately 10% in most territories as a "hike". "

I get word fatigue, too, and I don't always have a reason (everyone seems to be constructing "sentences" out of fragments, ending with the word "right?" right now. ever noticed that? also, the words "genuinely" and "quietly" are VERY overused at the moment.)

OTOH, a "10% price hike" is totally a thing. 👍 10% is not negligible. if you raise taxes 10% for example, that's a significant "hike" according to anybody.

Re: Nintendo To Counter Switch 2's Global Price Hikes With Robust Software Lineup

@jsty3105

"largely I think it's a poor idea because developers would have to factor an additional SKU in their development (so touchscreen games are out of the question or touchscreen elements and there'd be like handheld mode, docked mode, and home console mode)."

I don't see why docked mode and "home console mode" would have to be different. also, SKUs are for them to worry about, we are consumers.

FWIW touchscreen mode was largely ignored by developers, even Nintendo AFAIK, even for games that would've greatly benefitted, to the extent that I believe most Switch gamers forgot about the feature entirely. It is now happening, as easily predicted, to the Switch 2's "mouse mode" (which I can't decide if I'm calling "side mousin'" or "mouse talkin'")

Switch Lite dropped the IR sensor and no one even noticed. Switch Lite also lacks two hand motion controls but who's counting.

"In a time when resources are scarce and production lines have more limited capacity - allocating time, marketing, development costs, and production costs to an SKU that's of limited appeal may not be the best use of time and money."

OK, then how about a poll? have they even tried to find out if people would be interested in a more traditional (and traditionally priced) simplified home console Nintendo? like the good ol days?

"The Switch Lite appeal is already proven. The appeal of a TV-bound Switch isn't proven outside of what people say in forums - and there's a huge difference between what people say they will buy and what they will actually buy."

this new attitude that Nintendo can't afford to take ANY risks really bums me out, tbh.

"Also, to some extent, handheld gaming is where companies are pumping money into now"

what? you mean the ASUS XBOX ROG ALLY X? or the steam deck which has been effectively replaced by the upcoming home/TV only version, the Steam Machine? Or the PS handheld that requires a running PS5 home console to operate?
