Re: 8BitDo Celebrates N64 In Style With New Controller And Keyboard

-wc-

@ioev

actually as much as I like the controller, I resonate with almost all of your issues to some degree. especially the bright white LED on the face, sometimes that really bothers me. 👍 and while the xbox style domed buttons are not my actual favorite, I do enjoy a bit of variety these days and try to be less stringent with my preferences. the ultimate 2 tends to be my "dual analog" controller, and I find that the tightly spaced, bumpy buttons are good for quickly finding and pressing a button that then getting back to the stick with my thumb. my pro 2 and pro 3 are for games where your thumbs "ride" on the dpad and/or buttons.

incidentally, the dpad on the 3 is one of the strangest ive ever used, and either works perfectly great or is borderline awful depending on the game.

Re: 8BitDo Celebrates N64 In Style With New Controller And Keyboard

@ioev

im curious, what do you dislike about the "ultimate" shape?

ive been using an ultimate 2 for about 6 months, and while I initially was a bit skeptical of it's size (its a tad compact for my hands) after 120+ hrs of Cyberpunk 2077 it now feels like part of my body. ✌️

the 64 controller feels amazing too, imo.

Re: Tekken Is Coming To Switch 2, But Not The One You Think

-wc-

@Smithicus

i owned and played all three as they came out, and I did really enjoy 3, but 2 remains my favorite for its tighter scope, slightly grittier tone, and clearer graphics. I also prefer some of the character designs over 3's (though i thought some of the changes were neat at the time, for novelty's sake.)

I like a smaller, more balanced roster, which used to be a more common perspective it seems like. 👍

Re: Review: Star Fox (Switch 2) - Stays On The Rails, But Absolutely Hits The Target

-wc-

It's not that I don't believe the reviewer enjoyed himself, but (in my opinion) 9 is extremely high for the same damn game with "a fresh coat of paint" as vg journalists like to say.

2p asymmetrical co op is an absolute insult extremely disappointing when the canonical 4 pilots are right there. This would be a system seller for me if they had just done 2-4p campaign co op and added some missions (say, another entire starfox 64's worth stuck right on the end.) I don't think that would be too much to ask.

(edited for bitchiness.)

Re: 8BitDo Celebrates N64 In Style With New Controller And Keyboard

@notreallyhere

this controller is SO much more iMac than n64, 100% right! especially with the translucent white back half. 😂

incidentally, they already make a "retro" colored n64 controller, that comes in classic grey and also some translucent colors and also works with switch so this is an odd move for sure.

EDIT - OMG I now want an old blue iMac and this controller to play games on 😆 ✌️I havent stopped thinking about this since reading your comment 😂

"8BitDo Celebrates N64 In Style With New Controller And Keyboard"

I got excited by the headline for a second, but these are just the same old controller and keyboard in new colors.

PS - without a pic of the dock, are we certain that this is the ultimate 2 controller, and not the cheaper 2C? I couldnt find any more info at the "source," which also had the MSRP at 39.00 which would indicate that it's the budget model.

@kmtrain83

I'm so not aware of Minecraft, it's not even funny.

I'll bet you are right, though. plenty of industry execs probably saw the success of Minecraft and wondered why they'd wasted any time at all putting out artful games that challenge the player on an emotional level.

Incidentally I have seen beauty in what some players have created in Minecraft. ✌️

Re: Feature: "Why Is Falco So Thick In This Game?" - Lost In Space With Star Fox Zero

-wc-

"Yes, you can now team up with a friend during the titular Lylat Wars, one piloting the Arwing while the other takes aim with the lasers"

hang on: the lasers aim at whatever the arwing is pointed at. so, how does that work? do the lasers just go crazy all the time? is it harder to pilot without your trajectory being projected out in front of you by the crosshairs all the time?

I'm sorry, but in general, introducing Co-op but not letting p2 play as one of the THREE other pilots accompanying fox on every mission is just trash. I got excited about Co op for like one second before I read on. Especially for the missions where p1 would be in the Landmaster while the other player(s) could be piloting Arwings.

Ok, Im back to completely ignoring this insult of a game, carry on.

Re: Review: Retro Fighters Battle Dock For Switch 2 - Time To Dig Out Those Old GameCube Pads

-wc-

"Another downside is that the GameCube pad lacks 'Home' and 'Minus' buttons, so you can't use those buttons to invoke menus and the like. Therefore, you'll need to ensure you have a Joy-Con or Pro Controller handy for dropping back to the Switch 2's Home screen. There's not much Retro Fighters can do about this, but it can still be an annoyance."

Seems like they couldve put home and minus buttons on this thing somewhere just for this reason.

Re: Feature: Six Things That Need To Change In The Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake

-wc-

@AussieMcBucket

"I'll bet we're getting both though."

in the fullness of time, this must be correct. I mean one would hope.

"And there's probably a decent chance that this is partly meant to hold us over until the next "new" one gets here."

You may be right, but announcing this when we haven't had a new Zelda game like Ocarina in like 15 years just isn't the move. I would be way more receptive of this game, say, four years into this cycle, after we've had plenty of original titles and sequels and this is in addition to that. ditto star fox.

or if they like, SUPER teased a new Zelda game, and then soon after announced this and even released this before the new Zelda, I think that'd even be better.

anyway if they want to "do Ocarina" again they could do something so much more interesting than a remake, a la Link Between Worlds. Or Majora, in a different way. my 2c.

Re: Feature: Six Things That Need To Change In The Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake

-wc-

reading this article and comments made me really sad for this all time favorite, almost perfect game. in a lengthy era in which we have been begging and pleading for a new Zelda game with dungeons and logical narrative, they are working on messing with an established classic instead.

especially putting more "interesting" (i.e. boring/pointless) crap in the field. my god, are we trying to make prime 4 more like ocarina, or ocarina more like prime 4?

Re: Kingdom Hearts Collection Key Art Has Fans Sleuthing To Work Out If AI Was Used

-wc-

@Wexter

"not defending the use of AI, but professional animators ***** that up all the time."

just go get the pedantics/semantics out of the way, animators get away with lots of errors that would not likely be tolerated in front facing illustrations such as this. (Liefeld notwithstanding 😂)

I'm aware of Liefeld 😂😂 but I'd counter for starters that if it was all that common in the world of professional art, Liefeld wouldnt be "Liefeld," would he?

I'd be extremely surprised if anyone reading this can provide an example this egregious, on professionally produced box art, from any time between say 2000-2020.

Re: Kingdom Hearts Collection Key Art Has Fans Sleuthing To Work Out If AI Was Used

-wc-

@AmplifyMJ

thanks for expanding on that. I actually think we can both be right on this one, or rather that two things can be true at the same time. ✌️

but, I do believe strongly that all gamers want to enjoy games! 👍 and we all have different ideas about what that even means, and what is enjoyable about games, and what might make a game un-enjoyable.

on the other hand, there are also people that are even on the internet, or following Nintendo per se for reasons other than just personal passion for the games (not us of course 😎) and I may be a bit slow to acknowledge that. so thanks for reminding me.

as far as being stung, I think tone is hard on the internet, and I can be kind of severe in my argumentation. My aim was to get a well reasoned retort and I got it! thanks my friend 😊

Re: Kingdom Hearts Collection Key Art Has Fans Sleuthing To Work Out If AI Was Used

-wc-

@AmplifyMJ

"Nobody wants to just enjoy anymore, we want to find a reason to ruin and boycott everything, and the media only amplifies the worst instead of celebrating and enjoying the best. Tiresome"

how dare you accuse other videogame fans of not wanting to enjoy games? it's so preposterous on its face that I don't believe you actually think that, frankly.

in truth, the corporations are ruining everything and we've simply had the gall to notice.

in my opinion, what's tiresome is the insistence that the only important thing is personal enjoyment when it comes to consuming media.

Re: Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake Is Real, And It's Launching This Year

-wc-

@VeganH

"This is for 2 types of people. 1, the people who played the original and wanted a remake. And 2, the new generation of gamers who've never played the original. For the others, nintendo doesn't care about you."

yes, I am the "played ocarina many times and not interested in a remake" type, and I'm feeling the "doesn't care" hard from my canonical favorite company ever lately on many levels.

Re: Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake Is Real, And It's Launching This Year

-wc-

@Skunkfish

Thanks for asking! 😊

A new Zelda game that has dungeons and is not "open world" in the sense that it has a logical narrative and progression would be a good start.

But, if it has to be open world, "non linear," and for some reason dungeons are off the table, then something new that isn't another BOTW retread

Re: Nintendo Fined €35 Million Over Widespread Joy-Con Defects

-wc-

Nintendo remains stubborn over the issue, however, stating that it did not mislead customers and that paying the €35 million fine "does not constitute an admission of guilt and reflects only the amicable resolution of legal proceedings."

obv the important thing is that they've learned nothing.
