Friends, let me tell you, speaking as someone who bought a Steamdeck LCD on 320usd sale in October, months before they went away for good: if you have been thinking of getting a Switch 2 for 450, just do it, man. things change so fast, now.
I fully planned to buy my wife an LCD so we could play online and LAN games together, and they discontinued it a couple days before i got on there to buy it. Now, I cant even get her the more expensive model.
"The absolute best thing Nintendo can do is find a way to hold the Switch 2 price where it is."
I completely agree with you. All they have to do is convince shareholders that a small sacrifice in profit per unit will preserve the growth of their user base, long term.
"ps5 may be old it is still a fantastic system.. and sony most current console so not unless the ps6 comes around the ps5 is only aging in peoples minds.."
"Don't kill me for asking but is the short-term fix for these crazy rises going to be cloud gaming?"
I was just asking this on Time Extension. 😬
Believe me, no matter how passionately and righteously our feelings about it, if the mainstream adopts cloud gaming and deems it "good enough" they will gaslight you over it after the fact, ad infinitum, and never see the light.
"I've never understood how people get mad at something being spoiled for them, when they are commenting on a site that reports on the very subject they want to avoid!"
if Nintendolife wants their regular users to avoid their site for months at a time, then they should take your comment to heart. 👍
I couldn't care less about this movie but if I did, I would be joining the chorus of people here rightfully calling out the massive spoiler. Still, one thing I cant stand is an organization clearly messing up and then telling it's own users "we are right, you are wrong," and employing bad faith arguments to support their mistake. So here we are.
You guys are well aware that you could've made the headline something like "You'll never guess who is joining the cast of the new Mario movie!" and then a vague thumbnail. You've ironically chosen rage bait over clickbait this time. the fact that "it's on social media" is no excuse, as others point out. If Nlife hadnt reported this, I'd never have known about it without watching the movie. Our fault for putting our faith in our favorite Nintendo News site, we suppose.
I might not care this time, but this isn't the first time this has happened, by a long shot.
To those saying this is nbd: clearly, this is a movie of mostly surprise cameos. there can't be much more to it than that. ✌️
One user might be wrong. If it's a whole bunch of people, you are wrong.
thanks for replying. I'm remembering now the Nintendo fans rationalizing (right or wrong) TOTK because "the other guys" had already hiked their prices, something Iwas ignorant of then and apparently still 😅✌️
I couldn't care less what the other companies do, and 70 is still a bridge too far for me anyway, especially for a game like this, but I can appreciate your perspective 👍
Thanks! PS and XBOX haven't done anything i find interesting in decades now so I missed it.
I guess 70 for TOTK was only shocking in Nintendo world. Zelda was the one series I could imagine paying that much to play the new game, but TOTK cured me of that. Now, I will wait for a sale, always. 👍
"Yoshi is priced at what has become industry standard since 2020"
what games were 70 USD in 2020? it was widely believed that Nintendo was pushing the envelope with that price point for TOTK, which came out well after.
you're very welcome 😊 I hope you enjoy! please come back and let us know, if you think of it. ✌️
fwiw I've been playing one puzzle a night on Mario's Picross for gameboy before going to sleep. generally, it's a bit hard to stay awake through the whole puzzle, but that's kind of the point. it's possibly the least stimulating videogame imaginable, in a good way. 😂 no graphics, no story, no action, no words. 👍
ultimately, i think you are right. the prices are what they are, and people have different perspectives when it comes to what they "mean."
otoh, if the physical games are more expensive than the digital, then you pay a premium for the physical, because that's what that word means. even if the games were 40 digital and 50 physical, that is a 10 dollar premium for physical.
personally, there was a brief time that i would have paid 70 dollars for a Nintendo game, and that time started when I bought TOTK and ended soon after, when I played it. 70 for a Yoshi game is ludicrous, in my personal opinion. But you know what they say about opinions. ✌️
a higher price is called a "premium." that's not really arguable.
to the other point, since we dont have a baseline for this game, I don't really see how you can rationalize that paying the TOTK price for this Yoshi game physically isn't "a premium" compared to the 60 dollar eShop price.
Respectfully, 60 dollars for a game is not suddenly a discount price just because Nintendo has (quite recently) normalized 70 dollars per game for their fans.
the idea of not having a new (mainline) Mario game for your new console when it has been 8 years since the last one is just insane. Really, every Nintendo console should launch with a new Mario game packed in. I can't think of a more obvious easy win.
EDIT - thinking more on this... is SMW the ONLY time Nintendo launched a brand new console with a brand new mario game packed in on day one?
im glad to see from these comments that im not literally the only person on earth that dislikes RE4. I've since realized, I just dont like third person shooting games where the camera is fixed over the shoulder, and your character takes up the same 1/3 of the screen no matter what. I recently finally tried Mass Effect thinking I would love it, but quickly bounced for similar reasons.
(returned M.E., bought Cyberpunk 2077 on sale and I was happy as a clam all weekend 😃)
OTOH i also happen to like what everyone else calls "tank controls" which is actually just a way to describe normal player-centric movement (as opposed to "environment centric") with a fixed camera perspective. before analogue sticks, it was a way to offer fine 360° rotation/aiming without "snapping" to orthogonal directions and also to seperate rotating the character from walking forwards, something that is natural to people in 3D but somehow they cant handle in a fixed perspective.
to me "tank controls" would be a much better name for the way games like Battlezone, Katamari, or Virtual On play, but I'm in 4th stage digression mode, now. 😅 granpas tired.
EDIT - i just realized, a romhack for RE1 or 2 on PSX with "twin stick shooter" style controls might be awesome! not even sure if thats possible but in my mind it would work so well.
PS - i'm a "start at the beginning" guy meaning RE1 on psx. 👍 100%.
It's one of the all time great puzzle games! about as basic as you could get (you could easily make picross puzzles with pencil and paper and it would be the same thing.)
essentially, the numbers tell you how many filled in squares are in each row or column, but not precisely where, and you use deduction to figure out where. the payoff is when you reach a tipping point and it becomes obvious where the remaining squares are on the board.
I would recommend trying a cheap version on sale, to see if you even like the puzzles, because this will be pretty much exactly the same but with Konami characters, and way more expensive. I'd say unless someone is a mega Konami fan and just cant WAIT to get their next Picross fix, 17.99 is way too high and this is a definite "wait for a sale." my 2 cents! ✌️
I'm usually "that guy," lol. I have to agree. also the use of "cool" to end multiple sentences in a four sentence blurb, not great.
PS I voted EU but agree with others, they all suck. At least the extreme closeup is a unique camera angle, vs just kind of a boring shot with no composition. I kinda think the NA art worked better in the squarish DC format, fwiw.
you talk sense. I think monetizing every-little-thing is beyond a slippery slope and more like a free fall for Nintendo at this point, but we can say grace over the fact that it's remappable.
In memoriam: Nintendo, the last company to succumb to the temptations of fleecing customers over basic features, just because the internet.
Sorry, but I just learned today that the chat feature is paywalled and I'm still kinda in my feelings about it. I miss the old Nintendo, who were appreciably more abusive to pubs and devs than they were to their own users.

Nintendo used to largely be my safe haven from these kinds of things. I clung to my Wii for dear life (😅) as I watched the Enshittofication take hold on the PSXBOX side from a safe distance.
TBH Mario Run was my first clue. once Nintendo "went mobile" I knew there was no going back.
It really is the fact that a face button engages an online service dependant, subscription based feature. just tasteless!
yes, every kid should have things like (commonly affordably to everyone) wood blocks. 👍 but Nintendo is also making literally tablet apps and movies for babies now, so I don't really think that logic holds water when we are talking about their intentions and motivations towards your children.
I returned a bunch of recent disappointments and bought Cyberpunk 2077 for 20usd and Record of Lodoss War: Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth (which used to seem like a long title, amirite?) for 8usd on Steamdeck.
My god, Cyberpunk is everything they said it would be! I normally dislike questy openworldy games where you get text messages and use google maps in traffic but this one is so compelling somehow! its just perfectly executed, and I'm already very into the story and the intrigue. I can't wait to get back into it when I'm done writing this comment 😂
Lodoss is very cool, and it's the first SOTN like I've ever played that wasnt immediately underwhelming in some way, so I'm pretty excited to get more into that one as well! gorgeous pixel art, truly!

the very concept is heinous, actually.
speaking as someone who started playing SMB at 4 and has been invested in the company personally ever since, I'm glad my sense of "loyalty at a young age" was based on quality of the games and desire for a challenge, rather than a cynical attempt to brainwash children with overpriced licensed junk.
Could be, though it's only natural when it's widely considered a) the best in the series, b) essentially the game that arguably set the "metroidvania" template for all time (for better or worse) and c) the only full fat, home console Castlevania game of type to ever be released, with no direct followup.
Anyway, in this case I was critiquing the writing, not the content. I'm personally fine with comparing games to SOTN, or not. 👍

Re: Nintendo To Change Pricing For Digital & Physical Switch 2 Exclusives, Starting With Yoshi
"Nintendo does state that retailers can set their own prices for physical and digital games."
in the case of physical, is this really true? some big box store could've set a 59.99 or 64.99 price for TOTK, for example?
also who is the retailer that sets prices for digital games outside of the eShop?
Re: Nintendo To Change Pricing For Digital & Physical Switch 2 Exclusives, Starting With Yoshi
@jsty3105
"making digital games cheaper doesn't suddenly make physical games the premium option"
i know what you are trying to say but i do think that it literally does.
also, "cheaper" compared to what? $70 was already a "premium" in another manner of speaking.
Re: Nintendo To Change Pricing For Digital & Physical Switch 2 Exclusives, Starting With Yoshi
so they "lowered" this Yoshi game to the normal price that it shouldve already been, tops.
I can remember that just a couple years ago the apologists were saying that 70 for TOTK was hunky-dory because "it's Zelda."
get ready for 70 dollar eshop games and 80 dollar physical, and climbing.
