complaining about the cost is just embarrassing. they could've released the Switch 2 for 500 on launch day along with a new Zelda with dungeons, a new 3D Mario game, and a new Fzero game and never said the word "cost' even once, and this whole conversation wouldn't be happening. Just my opinion.

Very right! When I was a kid, I enjoyed looking back at my game mags from years past and finding the amusingly incorrect predictions, and woefully misguided hype. Hype about the 32X and Jaguar in particular gives me such a distinct flavor of nostalgia, to this day ๐ I also remember some VERY early "PSX2" rumors in probably GamePlayers or EGM that I wouldn't mind reading again if I could find them.
In fact, I value the conjecture and predictions from videogame journalists a lot more than any "analyst." I'd like to see more content like that, and less industry wonk rumor mill pasta, personally. ๐

I'm very curious to try a Switch 2 in handheld, especially after using my Steamdeck for the last 6 months. like jumping from the hot tub, to the pool ๐ or maybe the opposite idk. Everyone hates it including myself a little bit when I talk about my Steamdeck on here, but suffice to say I am very into that hardware, and I see it as almost the polar opposite approach to modern Nintendo's (but in some ways more similar to the old Nintendo's. Approach.)
Except that they are both apparently heavy ๐ (I'm assuming the Steamdeck much moreso, in actual grams.)
FWIW I've played a bit of Switch 2 but only on someone else's upsettingly large TV, with a Pro Con 2.

Which is ironic because of all my vintage consoles and handhelds, the Nintendos are easily the least wobbly.
I've been saying exactly what you are saying about TV only switch since the Switch was first announced, in fact I initially waited to see if one would be announced once I played a Switch and realized that it is an over-engineered, fragile handheld with poor controls and a creaky, wobbly, unergonomic design. They could have fixed literally all of its problems (and lowered the cost) simply by making it a dockable conventional handheld with reasonable ergonomics and robust controls, sans joycons.
(I suspect the # of Switch users who regularly use "desktop mode" or whatever is something like 1% and mostly children who wouldnt have suffered one single lick for never having it available.)
Long story short, COVID lockdown forced my hand and I bought a switch in 2020, which has been left docked 99% of the time since.

FWIW and from what I can find, there is no controller called the "Hautepad C-AT Arcade Controller For Switch 1 & 2" but if there was, the buttons would be labelled as such.

I like the 8bitdo solution for this, but otoh I dont like lights on my controllers so I might not actually like it in use.
in general I just wish the buttons weren't labelled on controllers! I know what console I'm playing.
(ps - it wouldnt be that hard for Nintendo to offer the option to swap the layout system-wide, or even per game or per controller. The "other" hybrid handheld system does this, but I do realize that would be a very "Nontendo" thing to do โ๏ธ)

FWIW and from what I can find, there is no controller called the "Hautepad C-AT Arcade Controller For Switch 1 & 2" but if there was, the buttons would be labelled as such.
this is a bit like demanding that controllers made for Switch "need their labelling sorted" for use on PC.
the "C" stands for "Cosmox."
