Re: Cyberpunk 2077 Is A Breathtaking Success, Reaching 40 Million Copies Sold

@AussieMcBucket

I think you are right about that 👍 I also think if you are already writing about a thing, you should make the argument if that's what you are gonna do. especially if you are going to use words like "in fact."

tbh I still don't really know what the argument would be. but it's whatever. I'm glad to hear the game is already getting properly discounted on S2 so everyone can enjoy it 🥳

@Banjo-

well, im playing on steamdeck so I think I'm probably getting somewhat worse performance, yet also portable. fwiw!

true though that I could possibly take my exact same "copy" to a PC and get better performance.

No matter how you play it, it's a great game! 130+hrs for 15 bucks is among the best videogame deals of my lifetime, for sure.

Re: Review: Gulikit Portable Dock For Switch 1 & 2 - A Light, Elegant Travel Companion

-wc-

Thanks for the review!

My deck is jealous of this one 😂 looks great!

I have a question for you: does it not seem like theres a bit of leverage placed on the usb port, where the switch "wants" to lean back, and without a lip or cradle to counter this, only the USBC is holding the unit upright? it kinda looks that way from the pics.

Another question! Something in your review made me think of my OG switch, and how scratched up the screen (protector, in my case, thankfully) got over time from inserting and removing the unit from the dock. is this still an issue or possibility with switch 2?

Thanks again! I enjoyed this one. ✌️

"In fact, those on Switch 2 arguably got the best deal, since nearly five years prior, the game's reputation was in the gutter thanks to a disastrous launch on the likes of PS5, Xbox, and PC."

"In fact"

I got it on PC, with the bugs fixed, for 15 dollars just as it was being released on Switch for 70. We don't have to spin everything to seem like a Nintendo victory.

Anyway great game, I loved every one of the 130 hours I put into it (in fact, the longest playtime ever for me, for a story based game. ♥️)

I'm glad S2 owners are getting in on it too, but I think 70 bucks is outrageous for a 5 year old game, personally. ✌️

Re: Sony Ditches Physical Media - Suddenly Game-Key Cards Don't Look So Bad

OK, "constructive criticism" as requested:

A news headline is not the place for a personal opinion. "Suddenly Game-Key Cards Don't Look So Bad" is a subjective take, an editorialization. When you write opinion, speculation, and conjecture into your #NEWS headlines, it sends a message to the reader that you are not serious, or that you dont realize the difference between fact and opinion, or don't care. it also alienates readers who may not be as familiar with the subject matter before coming across your article.

You might notice that #NEWS headlines on your sister site Time Extension contain only facts, specifically what has happened.

https://www.timeextension.com/news

If I hadn't been visiting this website since the Wii days, I would just see what is on offer and move on. I'm pulling for y'all, and I love this site and many people here.

PS - the #SOAPBOX and #OPINION tags are also available.

@Vivianeat

"A song stuck in your head is a con?"

I think this can be a really different experience, depending on the individual. And maybe the song 😂

I had to turn off the balatro music for example, because I went to bed and woke up with it "playing" in my head at a VERY high volume. I mean raging. I don't imagine other people have this same experience but it happens to me.

Re: Sony Ditches Physical Media - Suddenly Game-Key Cards Don't Look So Bad

-wc-

"Well gosh, GKCs suddenly don't look so bad, right?"

GKCs are exactly as bad as they were before.

This is like when the Steamdeck went up in price and suddenly the fanboys think Switch 2 is a good deal. Or when they raised the price of carts 10-20 dollars, and people framed it as lowering the price of digital.

PSA - Have a little objectivity, it's good for your brain and your esteem among peers.

Re: Mini Review: Arcade Archives 2 TEKKEN (Switch 2) - A Welcome Throwback To The Iconic Original

@Ristar24

"Finding the time," indeed. speaking of, how do you feel about so called "retro" handhelds? I recently acquired an Anbernic RG cube XX, and I've been "finding" 15-20 minutes here and there to finally play Gran Turismo 1, and it's SO satisfying! the thing wakes up instantly, exactly where I left off, auto saves and loads states as you play different games, and has great battery life! and fits in my overalls pocket 😎👍 obv Tekken runs great on it as well.

fwiw I had no idea when I bought it that GT1 would end up being "the game," but here we are! 😅

Re: Mini Review: Arcade Archives 2 TEKKEN (Switch 2) - A Welcome Throwback To The Iconic Original

@Ristar24

I highly recommend Tekken! imo Tekken 2 is the peak, though I realize this is a fairly uncommon opinion.

SF2Turbo was the only fighting game I'd owned prior to Tekken and I found the transition pretty natural. certainly a lot more similar than Virtua
Fighter with it's odd stiff motion and block button (love those games too though 👍)

whichever you choose, have fun with it! and report back 😊

@MrPeanutbutterz

"Pressing both punches to perform a move with both arms or both kicks to perform with both legs is implicit due to how the control scheme is set up."

it's not implicit in the slightest, it was an intentional feature they had to design and program, that couldve easily been skipped and/or never thought of in the first place.

for example, when playing Street Fighter II Turbo on SNES, does pressing X and Y at once cause Ryu to perform a light punch and a medium punch at the same time? what about a light kick and a light punch at the same time? is it implicit that he would?

FWIW confusing "implicit" with "familiar" or "logical" is an easy mistake, no worries.

"Do you say "well akshually, Street Fighter has eight attacks because you can jump and crouch kick/punch"? (you don't because performing a crouching kick by pressing crouch + kick is implicit to the control scheme)."

I could say that, but it wouldnt make sense because we are contrasting the two games here, and Tekken has jumping and crouching maneuvers as well. 👍

and there's that word again, implicit. it's a toughie! I think we are way beyond that however, as the manual for any fighting game will explicitly instruct players to perform those moves, and exactly how.

(PS - I've only ever gotten the "well akchully" slur from someone "well akchully-ing" me in real time in comments. just a kinda funny aside I thought ✌️)

Re: Mini Review: Arcade Archives 2 TEKKEN (Switch 2) - A Welcome Throwback To The Iconic Original

-wc-

"Rather than having separate inputs for light, medium, and heavy attacks, each of the four face buttons corresponds to an individual limb."

This is how everyone describes Tekken, and I find it lacking. both punches and both kicks at once essentially are two additional commands, bringing the total to six (equalling street fighter,) as well as at least two different "kick+punch" inputs which for most if not all characters are different grapple type techniques.

Re: Mini Review: Arcade Archives 2 TEKKEN (Switch 2) - A Welcome Throwback To The Iconic Original

-wc-

Hard to imagine what Namco saw in wii U over Switch to the extent that they refuse to even port TTTU to at least make a little money off that game. Seemed like a no-brainer to me at launch and I'm disappointed it never happened.

PS - "That said, there’s definitely a lack of signature moves, and it won’t take too long to memorise what little is on offer."

if you memorized every maneuver and 10 hit combo for every character quickly then I'm kind of amazed. And, I don't believe you 😂👍

PPS - "definitely a lack of signature moves" implies that there are absolutely none, as in zero. obviously that's not true, just in case someone is reading this that has never played Tekken. ✌️

Re: Feature: The Master Of Multiplayer - Finally Playing N64's Only 8-Player Game

-wc-

"Now, I don’t know who at Codemasters came up with the idea of sharing an N64 gamepad, but they are an absolute anarchist genius."

while I don't disagree, I wanted to point out that Micro Machines games have had this feature going back to at least the excellent game boy version. I only know this because I had that one when I was a little kid. I understood the purpose, but when I was bored i would try to drive both cars at the same time 😂

on (i think) genesis they also had the insane multitap-a-la-cart feature that I always wished they'd licensed out to other companies, or had just caught on in general.

videogames used to be so cool 🥲✌️

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder "Elephant Mario" Statue Officially Revealed, Here's A First Look

@Grim

I haven't given unsolicited Björk advice since I was a much younger man, but IMO you should definitely NOT start with that album 😂✌️ I would probably start with Post 👍

FWIW my favorite Björk albums in order are

Homogenic
Medulla
Post
Debut
Vespertine
Volta

and then I fell off after Volta. The top five are excellent albums and honestly it's very close!
Post is my favorite on another day, and strangely is one of her most musically adventurous and commercial albums in my opinion. I feel like Post is why Björk is Björk, and also when her music was least anachronistic slash idiosyncratic, i e she almost kinda fit in when "in" was Radiohead, Blur, Busta Rhymes, Beck, and Tool.

Anyway have fun! 😊

Re: Super Mario Bros. Wonder "Elephant Mario" Statue Officially Revealed, Here's A First Look

-wc-

@SuperBro64

no lol, I was being hyperbolic partly, though it does reflect how I feel about the series over the decades, loosely.

honestly, it's more the level design and how it relates to the powerups than the powerups themselves, if I really think about it.

Generally, I miss when powerups were just kind of there, and it was up to the player to figure out how to use them. Starting with Yoshi's Island and continuing in 64 and through to the present day, the powerups are just kind of like part of the level, more of a "ride" than a buff, if that makes any sense.

anyway, I'm always kind of hoping someone will challenge me on my ludicrous statements (call it baiting if you will, I just like to be brutally honest as a shortcut to thoughtful exchange, id say) and I'm glad you did! I like some of the ones you mentioned just fine, certainly they are "not not good" especially compared to the bees and elephants etc 😂 but I do think mushroom, flower, feather was a great set of mario powerups and hasnt been beat yet 👍
