smooth gamplay remains just out of reach, doesnt it?

this is something I've been pondering since the days of Tobal and Fzero X. Turn down the "graphics" just a LITTLE bit and you can have buttery smooth gameplay, deeper immersion, unheard of control precision, and insane sense of speed, but nah we picked dirt textures and blades of grass over any of that.

does OG Witcher 3 run at 60fps on Switch 2?

As I alluded earlier, User's deployment of "zero sum" was not appropriate in the first place, because I was not suggesting that no new games or IP could exist if remakes are being produced.

but yeah, finite resources and the quest for ever expanding profits create a zero sum on SOME level, but that's not what I'm talking about here 👍

The Nintendo approach (specifically since the Switch came out) is hammer away at the same 5 moneymakers and if you happen to be a fan of Pilotwings, Fzero, Excitebike, Kid Icarus, Warioland, Starfox, Golden Sun, or Punch Out and dare to hope for a new game you can absolutely get bent.

OTOH if you don't care about those franchises but find yourself getting bored with Fire Emblem, Mario and his spinoffs, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Kirby and various remakes and reissues of Zelda, Mario, et al, I think it's perfectly valid to wish for new IP. not sure where your skepticism of those people's priorities comes from.

There are innovative developers besides Nintendo, and Nintendo has certainly borrowed from other developers, sometimes shamelessly. But I agree, there is a lot of lazy rehashing going on out there, even with fresh IPs.

It is literally zero sum, in the sense that resources, even vast resources, are finite.

But that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that they are not incentivized to make new entries when they can make a lot more profit reusing old assets.

It's common knowledge that publishers consider new games and especially new IP to be "risky." well, this is the alternative.

it's not that they can't but rather that they won't (be in much of a hurry.)

this really reminded me more of something like Gauntlet when I played it. Pretty decent game but I don't pine for it nightly.

Great article! I agree with everything you said.

elsewhere on the site, I preemptively called it a "Zombie flick with licensed nouns," and I must say, I fully retract that! they made the right choice with the direction, and really did nail the old school RE feel.

There were some plot holes and 🙄 moments along the way, but I hadn't had this much fun with a movie, or been this impressed with an adaptation, in a long time.

I couldn't care less about the detail enhancements but 40fps is nicer than 30. really, just the same ol game running at buttery 60fps on high settings wouldve been more impressive to me.

90 dollars for what the pro con 2 offers is still insane. I got my ult 2 and pro 3 each on good sales for about that much, total. First party isn't what it used to be sadly. imo.

We are currently playing through, and passed Dodongo a few days ago. I had completely forgotten about this dungeon! It was fun rediscovering it, even though it's middling for a Zelda Dungeon.

one wonders if the 4,500,000 million dollar number was constructed from the framework of "hundreds of titles and thousands of copies" or rather the "thousands of titles and hundreds of thousands of copies" end of the spectrum.

BTW Nintendo didnt publish hundreds OR thousands of Switch games, so I'm assuming they'll be distributing much of these "earnings" to the other "victims."
