I hope the robo-voice doesn't autoplay, because it's horrible lol. I miss when robo-voices sounded like the Pokedex, and not like Siri.
I'm a little more interested in the game after seeing the lobster hitch a ride. I don't expect it will be excellent, but I like to support Nintendo whenever they branch out a little from their standard IP fare. Even if they've taken away a LOT of the shine with their inexpensive but ultimately uninviting design choices (including but not limited to procedurally-generated environments).
It's impossible not to compare Endless Ocean: Luminous to Fashion Dreamers, seeing as they both have mostly ditched the crafted story content for a multiplayer focus. Friends, I LOVE multiplayer. I'm all about multiplayer. I live and breathe multiplayer. But developers need to stop emptying games of worthwhile content to add it. Someone mentioned Mario sports games above, and they're also the perfect illustration of this problem. After Fashion Dreamers, I am desperate for a proper Style Savvy, but I am also desperate for it to keep Fashion Dreamers' multiplayer. Just...add it to the real content. Don't replace it. And I expect the same will be true after this game. I'll want a new, proper Endless Ocean, hand-crafted and content rich...but yeah, with multiplayer diving with my friends, so I can share my sense of awe and wonder. And show off my lobster friend.
@Rozetta we must exist in different online bubbles then. The podcasts & media outlets I frequent rarely mention Heist while they tend to fawn over Dig 2.
It saddens me to see this, of all things, be called 'preachy'. Glad to see this coming to Switch and that there are game devs out there that care enough about building a better world that they make a game about it.
What better way to make a difference than doing what they do best - making great games?
Fully agree with the no. 1. Also, the GB version of Yoshi’s Cookie was fantastic, and never gets much love. It would definitely belong on this list. Ditto for Game & Watch Gallery 1-3!
@Anti-Matter I get that, but honestly it feels like nothing has shaken up the charts much this year. It’s been a slow year for new releases. I’d love to see new success stories.
@Mana_Knight I've heard one too many things about Block Ball with its awesome chip tunes and epic game mechanics. It sounds like it's the best spinoff of the classic era (1992-2001).
Where the hell are Fallout 3 and New Vegas? Where is the Mass Effect Trilogy? Where are Lost Oddysey and Eternal Sonata? Where are all those 360/PS3 games that can easily run on Switch? What a waste.
Time to get on my soapbox again - "black cartridge" games should absolutely be part of ranking lists for BOTH GB and GBC games. Why? Because they are fully playable on original hardware! It seems silly to exclude them. This means these games should be included:
Pokemon Gold/Silver
Pokemon Trading Card Game
Pokemon Pinball
Game & Watch Gallery 2
Game & Watch Gallery 3
Just saying...Top 20 looks a lot different if you throw these in
EDIT: I guess Pokemon games are 2nd party not 1st party. Still, G&W 2 and 3 should be added
It looks very prominent, Gran Turismo/Forza style games are very few on Switch, but what I like most is the variety of formats/leagues in cars, I mean: Stock cars, Nascar, Rally, GT, LeMans, eLeague and Indycar /F1 (ah, and the future racing)
@batmanbud2
"There was a Wave Race on the Game Boy? Why?"
Well, the Game Boy version was the first in the series:
Wave Race (GB) 1992
Wace Race 64 (... N64) 1996
Wace Race: Blue Storm (GC) 2001
(Wii Sports Resort (Wii) 2009 with it's "Power Cruising" Jet ski mode.)
Both Wave Race 64 and Wave Race (GB) was released in Europe in 1997 though.
Grounded is on my radar. The TMNT game too. Stone Age was a great worker placement boardgame back in the day. The game was also notorious for having a dice cup that was disagreeably pungent. One whiff, and your hair turns stark white, or so i’ve been told. The digital version might be an upgrade! Might get it!
Thank you for compiling this!
I'm excited to see what the next Yo-kai Watch game is, but I really hope it's released internationally this time. I also hope that 4 eventually gets it's localization now that Level-5 is back to translating their ips again. I see the next YKW game as the fifth entry, but I don't think it will have a number in the title, since 4 flopped.
Some really fantastic games here. Zelda and Tetris are no-brainers, Donkey Kong is in the running for best game in the series, and Mole Mania is a super-polished sleeper hit that should've become a series. I'm also partial to the Mario/Wario platformers.
Dam amazing, I know it’s just show piece but how come one person on their own and I have seen some playable ones as well can do this. But we can’t seem to get a studio of 250 top developers and a few years to produce this type of stuff for real. I also have seen some of the gorgeous Zelda playable ones and always think the same.
Would be nice if Nintendo would make a remake collection of Mario Land 1, 2 and 3.
Could also include the orginal versions and new colored original versions.
Maybe even add Super Mario 3D land. The Mario Land Collection.
Donkey Kong 94 should also have a remake and/or colored version.
Van Gogh … Pikachu … two legends in their respective fields. One paints, the other electrocutes stuff.
Pokemon Art Academy was fun, but i feel there’s another game in there somewhere…
I’ve been saying this ever since the bloatfly tease that was Fallout Shelter……
Dear Bethesda, Microsoft, and Nintendo, please make this happen. FO3/NV/4 would PRINT money for you guys. You wouldn’t be able to count the money fast enough for how quickly we’d jump on this!
If this was real, I would buy an Xbox this afternoon and request a week off work. Say what you will about Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter... I own those trilogies for PS3, but the bear and breegull are my favorite combination. Grant Kirkhope's music still pops into my brain whenever I'm humming or absent-mindedly whistling.
@Not_Soos oh wow, I came to see it with my own eyes. I find it a bit extreme as well tbh. It was a fun little joke about a new colour, and the article was exactly about that. How is that NSFW, I also don't get it. Looking at Nintendo news isn't NSFW then XD But hey, just like in the real world there are jealous and frustrated people all over the place who only feel like they exist when they're undermining others. Hope they feel good about themselves now. All in all, it was a harmless joke, and I found it pretty elaborate as well. It doesn't really matter. Maybe there will be a more suitable article in the future to post it again XD
I would love to see a new Sim City that has all the options the last Sim City had as well as the option for larger maps ala Sim City 4. Want to throw a world with other city lords and a congress set up for diplomacy, trade agreements and the like? sure. it would just add an extra dynamic to the game.
Imagine this, build a city but you also have to do resource management ala command and conquer 3 along with city defense and troop deployments when needed. Or you can turn off military and go full city management mode or turn that off and go RTS mode. That would be the dream game.
If the Switch is indeed in the twilight of it's years, as is the general consensus, it's interesting that they are making the effort to maintain ongoing content. I bet they will release this game on Switch 2 as well, and continue adding cross-platform content and events.
At this point im more curious to find out how the game plays on switch, since from what i gather even the nintendolife preview wasn't based on that version.
the game itself has already sold me on it from what ive seen but am concerned how the switch version will play.
Really i would be more than happy if it kept a stable 30fps throughout since when it gets below that it can make exploration feel worse.
