@romanista Nintendo should just convert the games to 2D. They're small, low-res and (based on the reviews) very short, non-complex games so if they can invest in the plastic peripheral, they can probably get a couple of interns to do this conversion. Keep the hardware and 3D options available for those desperate to see why the planet rejected it 30 years ago. I have a desk at the right height for me for monitors etc, but the setup of this seems to be unique and all reviewers have pointed out it's uncomfortable, which puts me off as the last thing that a relaxing hobby should be is uncomfortable.
I'd give it a go if I could play the games in 2D, but as it is this isn't for me. Happy for those who are enjoying it.
@DennisReynolds yeah im definitely looking forward to trying this and would 100% pick up a similar update with the others, especially having a decent way to play 2 in handheld and a hopeful fix for the memory leak issues in 2 and 3 which could show up in longer play sessions, with 3 iirc it could potentially cause quest NPCs to disappear.
does make me curious what monolith could be cooking up on switch 2 also.
@Pillowpants yeah one of the reasons why i mentioned the whole PS+ thing a few times was because i would love to see that kind of thing but with Nintendo's games, the whole idea of having a library of games to play and try out while also being able to buy/keep the ones you really like.
Am also one of those who enjoyed the VC, which is why console archives has my curiosity, while im unsure if there will be first party games (iirc arcade archives did have some nintendo games) the idea of having things like playstation games on it is exciting since i also enjoyed the "psone classics" line of games on ps3/psp/vita
@Erigen I like it, but it's not NieRly as good as this game. It's really something special. I was initially turned off by the overly provocative character designs, but I heard one song from Nier: Automata and spent the next week getting my second (and probably final) platinum trophy. It's in my top 5 of all time and is possibly my #1.
"Nintendo are being really odd last couple of years (Clocks, Flower toys, stretchy face Apps, launching a new system with fan favourites rather than the big AAA hitters)."
Almost as though Nintendo don't always take a direct route to profits.
NieR Automata is one of my top 5 video games of all time, but I wouldn't want a direct sequel to it. It has a great open ending that leaves just enough for the player's imagination, and I don't want a sequel that tells me, "actually, this is what really happened after Ending E". Even the small bits of lore information I've heard about NieR Re[in]carnation have been kind of too much, I really don't need to know what became of the androids in the future. The story of Automata is enough for me.
Now, if Yoko Taro were to write a completely different story broadly set in the same universe, kinda like how the NieR games are in relation to Drakengard, that one I would be interested in.
All they ever needed to do is keep 64's gameplay, add new characters and locations as the mainline Mario adventures progressed; leave the wacky innovation to the big Mario titles.
They undervalue their games, then punish their staff and created a toxic work culture. Then they ask why they need to readjust. Well, not the last part but still.
Nintendo bring me lots of joy, but also lots of frustration... but when they do crazy stuff like this, I just can't be mad. No Nintendo, I don't want to play your terrible failed headset from 1995 in 2026, but for some reason I am really glad you asked me!
I thought of buying this, but I have an original Nintendo 3DS that I bought all the way back in 2011. It is one the "Ambassador" ones that I modded last year.
So I figured I should try the games on it first. They are interesting, but I'd rather invest on more Game Boy Advance games. They aren't essential games, although I am quite enjoying Wario Land.
By the way @lastfootnote, the games work brilliant on a modded 3DS, thanks to Red Viper. You can even change colour palettes and adjust the depth of 3D with thevslide.
Nier reincarnation console version isn’t a pipe dream at all if they did octopath 0 as a console game. It’s actually the most likely because of another weird hint from months ago. Since yoko taro is saying this Gacha game is Nier 3, this could be coming to consoles soon with obvious tweaks of course. I would rather have a new Nier game or even a new drakengard game but that seems less likely I think.
I would recommend waiting for a patch before getting Rayman 30th.
The game doesn't save properly, and I've heard reports of crashes, and save corruption too. And obviously the soundtrack, which would have been a dealbreaker for me if I hadn't already bought it before I knew what they did haha.
Only get it pre-patch if you are mostly interested in the documentary content. ...Or if you want to play the GBC version I guess, since it's a password save game and therefore immune to save corruption. (though they even changed the GBC soundtrack, which is a bit baffling to me)
For alternate Rayman 1 versions that work better:
The old "PSOne Classic" version is still there on the digital store if you have a PS3 or Vita and don't mind jumping through some hoops to access the store (which amazingly is still up)
if you want to track down the PlayStation Classic mini console, one of the included games is Rayman, fully intact.
And on GOG, Rayman Forever is pretty cheap, though you will want to install a fan-made music mod. (the original CD-ROM version of Forever removed some tracks to make room for bonus levels)
I still have my original that I bought from blockbuster video when the thing flopped hard. Also have most of the games for it as well. It was $50 for the whole shebang, that was what I paid for it the year it came out. Lol. Not a chance im paying for even the cardboard version.
@thenikdavies Same as others said, seems a lot like the toys you could of got in the 90s, even the Simpsons back then made a joke about it with Funzo, feel they could of made something more impressive for this price.
Just asking - Is a review planned for this game? I don't think y'all even gave impressions of it, unless I missed them. Only curious because of my curiosity in the game. I recognize the massive workload that this site undertakes.
@rvcolem1 I'm not talking about games as a whole. I'm talking about these two Square-Enix products. One sold ten million copies and had multiple guest appearances in other games while the other Square-Enix buried and would prefer everyone forget. To showcase the sheer contrast between the two games. Even worse is that Forspoken was made by Square-Enix themselves.
@PessitheMystic Doesn't help you can play it on 3DS thanks to homebrew and it's actually better then the original and this option of playing it, especially if you got a new 3DS the 3D effect is good, plus changing the red colour helps too, I don't get why Nintendo is leaving the colour changing option for later update...not to mention having the option to play it in 2D cus it's still playable much like the 3DS 3D effect the games don't require it.
I never even considered a direct sequel, but it's what I want. And it says NieR: Automata to be continued, not Nier to be continued! But Yoko Taro so idk
Since Square-Enix has been very adamant that the mobile game NieR Re[in]carnation IS NieR 3, I hope it eventually gets a complete edition console port. The gameplay was simple, but the many stories and extensive lore and world building were phenomenal.
@Erigen maybe more importantly, arent these games well made and fun? I havent played any of them but if you put hot women in terrible games the games probably not going to sell great either way.
A metroidvania where you unlock different pokemon and use there skills to traverse and fight. I havent played a pokemon since the gameboy but thats my guess
I can't believe sexy intriguing anime android girls sold this much, and Forspoken's grungy dirty sarcastic over-bearing snarky punk girl had entire boxes of unsold copies tossed into landfills.
It's a novelty item. Something to show some friends that may grow up with Nintendo or ur little niece. Have fun for 5 minutes and never use it again. Would be cool if u were able to just purchase all the games for like $40. Collectors rejoice
"Some early impressions haven't been too kind to the game, with reports of bugs and a "reimagined" soundtrack that fans say is inferior to the PS original. Apparently Ubisoft is looking into a way of allowing players to swap between the old and new music, so stay tuned."
