I wish they would unite the classic console apps into one ”Virtual Console” -app, and make it so you could download games and consoles inside the app instead of clurttering the Switches home screen with dozen apps that fill the storage.

It would be lovely to open the ”Virtual Console” -app just to see if there’s something new to download for some system instead of starting each app separately.

And I would madly love to see lots of new consoles and computers introduced into the classic systems catalogue!

Dragon Quest 2 HD-2D Remake: Completed DQ1 in about 15.5 hours and have spent that same amount of time really just completing the first third of the sequel. It's cool how spells and abilities are divvied up between the party, of whom my favorite is definitely Matilda for her feisty passion and witticisms. The already gorgeous visuals are improved even further and the scope is quite impressive (seeing the entire first game's map fit into roughly one-quarter of this one gives you an idea how much bigger of a game this is). Looking forward to closing out the Erdrick trilogy in style.

I’m still neck deep into NiOh 3, working my way to the platinum trophy. It’s been such a tantalizing experience, and scratches that Elden Ring itch. By that, I mean its open world design. I prefer this approach to the genre because the difficulty of formidable bosses can be overwhelming. Being able to go somewhere else, explore, and level up gives you the feeling of always making strides to improvement.

That said, the final boss for the first region, Takeda Shingen was the bane of my existence. There were moments I contemplated whether or not victory was even fractionally possible. My death count was approximately 25 times, and my head hanged low before I had to go to work for the day. Prior to him, the (boss) fights had been challenging, but my confidence grew with each attempt. Nine hours later, I arrive home from work, and tell myself that I can beat him. Once again numerous deaths. And then I learned a pattern. Though I still died I was consistently getting him to the halfway mark. And then I learned another pattern. And another. Two attempts later, I beat him.

Sometimes, you just need to take a step back for a while. You have to realize that this is just a video game, and it can be beaten. Once I didn’t let the enemy frustrate me, toy with my emotions, and make me play defense, reacting for sheer survival rather than be offensive minded and focus on positioning, I knew I could do it. There is no other feeling like adrenaline. Subsequently, the next main boss I encountered I was victorious on the first attempt.

Meanwhile, during my lunch break at work, I read the news that Xenoblade Chronicles X got a Switch 2 upgrade; I downloaded it as soon as I could. It’s nearly been a year since I’ve last played — I have forgotten the controls and sole core mechanics. I’m debating whether I want to start a fresh playthrough, or boot up my save file that has 120-hours logged, and get accustomed to the systems again. I will probably choose the latter, knowing I more than likely won’t finish it if I start anew.

Once more, reminder that:

  • you can pay as little as around €10 per year for NSO including the Expansion Pack by sharing a family subscription with friends and/or acquaintances (some here on Nintendo Life are doing it together with other users);
  • NSO is different compared to other games as a service in the sense that you download the apps and their games on your system and they simply check if you have an active subscription so whenever it gets discontinued - not anytime soon considering that the Switch 2 gen has just started and I wouldn't be surprised if it continued also after - modding should come to the rescue by removing that check and so making them accessible even then.

In Pokemon Legends Z-A DLC wrapping up the last 3 side quests and doing the special scans. After 100+ hours I must say this is an amazing game, easily 10/10. I enjoy the DLC even more than the base game.
I am about to start Famicom Detective Club: The Girl Who Stands Behind.
Also playing:
Picross -LogiartGrimoire-
Hello Kitty Island Adventure

I'm some 45 hours in on Final Fantasy VII Remake for Switch 2. Amazing game! I'm also playing Virtual Boy with my new replica. Mostly Wario. Beyond playing a few demo units back in the day, it's the only Nintendo console I missed out on. I'm happy to get a chance to experience it now. It really was a wacky Nintendo system. I love it!

I'm planning to play some Metal Gear Solid 2 once I finish up with Final Fantasy. I'm in no hurry though.

Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend! 😊

I’m still playing through Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties. Going for 100%.
Besides that I’m playing through all 7 games in the Capcom Belt Action Collection with an American friend. The online is infinitely better than the Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection.

Beyond that I’m excited for Resident Evil Requiem on Friday.

I ordered a couple Gameboy/GBA games for my birthday (today), so they're my focus this weekend. At this very moment, I'm playing Mario Picross in the NSO SNES because I don't want to pass out and drop my Gameboy on the floor.

The games I ordered:

Link's Awakening DX (GB)

Tiny Toon Adventures Babs' Big Break (GB)

Justice League Heroes: The Flash (GBA)

I am still surprised they didn't just move all the stuff from the Nintendo eShop on the Nintendo Wii U to Nintendo Switch and I remember reading before Nintendo Switch came out we would be able to play all the games we downloaded on Wii and Wii U on Nintendo Switch if we used the same account but that sadly didn't happen. As disappointing as some people found the Wii U I really liked the eShop on the Wii U and it had a great selection of games on it.

@KidRyan That is sad to hear. I thought it would have gotten a sequel for sure 'cause it was popular and Sonic the Hedgehog is up to Sonic the Hedgehog 4 now and they got plans to make even more Sonic movies and spinoff movies and shows but maybe Nintendo and Game Freak weren't happy with the movie. I would like to see another Live Action movie 'cause there were a lot of Pokemon I like that weren't in the first one and as an Eeevee fan I was excited Eevee might have been getting a big role in the sequel since Eevee and the other Eeveelutions aside from Flareon were absent from the first movie

With Legend of Zelda on the way and talk of a Metroid Live Action movie hopefully Nintedo tries again with Pokemon 'cause my Nieces and their friends loved Detective Pikachu and want to see more Live Action movies. I would love to see them do a Live Action or Animated Kirby movie too and think that could be really cute.

Hey gamers,

Curious to read what everybody has been playing. I'm working the whole weekend and attending the Alter Bridge concert this Sunday. In my free time, I will keep myself busy with:

Super Mario Galaxy: 80 Power stars so far. Getting all hyped up for the movie ...

Have A Nice Death: Keeping up with my daily runs to collect all the Curse cards.

Tetris Effect Connected: Will participate in the weekend event.

Happy gaming! ✌🏻🧡🎮

The more I think about it the less sense it makes to release these on NSO.

1-it limits your market to those on or willing to join NSO and pokemons fan base is huge.
2-NSO features like the save states would "ruin" the developers intention of the gameplay.
3- compatability with pokemon home may have been technically difficult if it was on the NSO app.
4- People would be upset if they lost access to their pokemon collected when their NSO expired.
5- It's a big anniversary of Pokemon so this feels more collectable and marketable also amefreak may have been unwilling to take a simply fee for it being on NSO.

Although I am continuing with Dragon Quest III 2D-HD, all of my gaming time has been consumed by Sword Of Fargoal on the C64 (via Evercade). It's a really fantastic RPG rogue-like, one of the first (1983). I have found the sword on several occasions, but escaping with it feels almost impossible! Caves Of Qud, Under The Island, and Calamity Angels also have my interest, so let's see how disciplined I can be this weekend! 😆 And then, of course... LeafGreen and FireRed next week! Oh my days. Have a great weekend, guys, and take great care of yourselves out there.

Hey everyone.
This week I'm playing Gigasword on my S2 after my physical copy arrived.
What an excellent game, the 8 bit art and sound is brilliant.
A great Metroidvania that is a lot bigger and better than I expected, highly recommended.

Also playing Shadows of Mordor on my PS4 as well.

My Extreme Green Analogue 3D arrived this week so I'm going through my complete in box N64 games collection, all 243+ of them and adding each games individual settings that best suits each one.
A huge undertaking but I'm loving it, I'm like a kid opening their N64 on launch day all over again.
I've started alphabetically and just done A.
Armorines is so much fun and it looks beautiful and plays so smoothly in overclocked mode.
The Analogue tis a great machine and I've fallen back in love with my 64 collection.

Have a great weekend everyone.
