Super Mario Maker 2 was one of the Switch highlights in 2019, but Nintendo has announced it will soon wrap up its support for the game – with one "free final update" (aka. the last major one), arriving on April 22nd.
It adds a World Maker mode – allowing up to 40 courses to be linked together, the Koopalings as enemies (all seven of the troublemakers, to be precise), along with the key-chasing Phanto, and wind-up Mechakoopas.
Additional power-ups and course parts are also being added as part of this major update. This includes the Super Mario Bros. 2 Mushroom – transforming Mario and friends into their SMB2 counterparts, the Frog Suit from Super Mario Bros. 3 is also included, and so is the Power Balloon from Super Mario World.
Some more recent power-ups to be featured include the Super Acorn from New Super Mario Bros. U and the Boomerang Flower from Super Mario 3D World. Last, but not least, are five new wearable variations –a few of these being the Cannon Box and Propeller Box.

At first I was a little sad when they said it’s the last major update but then I saw everything they’re adding and my gosh, it’s incredible.
Wish we got a full SMB2 style though
Not going to lie, that SMB. 2 and World Maker might just make me finally purchase the game....
Many people wanted do their own maps. More the the bosses... I think don't left nothing to complain now. But be able to grab the enemies in all modes is the game changer. Now, the game will be even more fun.
Really looking forward to what the community makes with world maker mode.
This is actually really a great update. Quarantine just got a whole lot funner.
Super hyped for the World Maker Mode and SMB 2 mushroom.
Sounds like a real nice update - but at the same time, we waited so long and get this update and it's the last one? Why? This game is cool why not do more with it???
The snow level theme isn't pink and that's a problem.
World Maker looks really cool!
ooo dang! I will definitely be picking up this game! I haven't yet but have been just waiting to pull the trigger ..... this convinced me to buy the game
...but not amiibo support 😖
Really though, this is an insane update. I'm going back in.
OVERWOOOOORLDS!!!!!!!!! Finally and more bosses, great update. Kinda sad that there is not a new style for the final update, the Extra styles" make no sense now,but hey overworld was the more important issue that needed to be added,I can't wait.
I also didn't realised that the Super Acorn wasn't already in the game, that's crazy that it had to be added later,it's the main power up of NSMBU
The World Maker is great news and I may finally start making some levels together in light of this news (I've only completed the single-player mode and since shelved the game).
It absolutely stinks that they STILL haven't added amiibo support. It's another source of revenue for crying out loud. It makes no sense NOT to include it!
World Maker...am i dreaming or something?
No extra game styles? Not gonna lie, seeing as this is the last major update, that's pretty disappointing. It was never promised, sure, but with 3D World being the only palette under "Extra Game Styles" and more palettes fitting in the space next to 3D World's, I was honestly expecting more game styles to come in future updates. Sadly, that seems unlikely at this point. Ah well....
That being said though, this update looks fantastic. All the new (well, mostly returning) items look like it'll spice things up a lot, and that World Maker looks fantastic (shame it's only SMW-styled, though). The laser-firing Mechakoopas look sick, too.
I don't actually own this game, but I do watch an unhealthy amount of SMM2 players on YouTube. It'll be fun to see them react to this update and explore it as well. 4/22 can't come soon enough!
EDIT: For some reason, I have a sudden urge to get the game so bad. But if I'm already watching others play the game (and really enjoying it)... I don't know. I've always been having ideas for SMM levels in my head, but that never really pushed me to get the game. Hggn. I'll probably think about it more like a logical human being before I make the splurge.
Lot of great looking elements!
Not going to lie, I would've preferred for the SMB3 style to get the hammer suit instead of the frog suit, but I'm excited for everything else.
Oh my gosh!!! This is a dream come true for me!
It's a great update, it'll finally bring me back to the game
Ok this sounds like the best thing ever
Wait, what? Final? No water tiles or expanding the water options to other level themes, enemies and elements are still missing from the first SMM, AND they're limiting the number of levels to the World Maker?
Look, I may still do half of an NSMW, but this sucker of a game just became trade fodder.
Seems like they are dropping this out of nowhere. Still is a welcome addition, but I do find the lack of an additional style and the lack of amiibo support to be woefully underwhelming.
Honestly this is interesting overall, but I don't know if I'm going to return to this game.
I hope by "Final Update" they mean it is the last free update and they will continue to offer paid DLC for it.. It seems like a game they should support for the entirety of the Switches lifespan.
My guess is that this didn't sell as well as they were hoping relative to the Wii U version. (I think it sold better, but the Wii U version was a massive hit for the system whereas Smash, Splatoon, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart etc have all been huge hits on the Switch whereas Mario Maker 2 just kinda got forgotten about.)
I think they could fix Mario Maker 2 by allowing you to draw on an iPad while the Switch is docked, but obviously they don't want to try that.
I feel like if they'd have done the world builder initially it would have driven a lot of people to get new interest in the series. I'm really hoping that world builder drives a lot of creative content that ends up on YouTube and drives sales of the game. Then hopefully Nintendo's higher ups will want to invest in it more.
Also where the hell is the ice flower and the hammer bros suit!? HOW DO YOU LEAVE OUT THE HAMMER BROS SUIT!?
Now this is interesting, I may pick this up as my Mario game for switch.
So we can now create and share entire, custom Mario games with the world now. That is SUCH a game-changer. Holy crud! A lot of my lack of sustained interest in the game was the way the single-level design of it limited how people would design levels in it. If people are designing levels with the idea that they're one part of an entire custom game, with continuity between levels, then... WOW! Coins and the number of lives a player has will actually matter.
Can you string together the courses you saved into worlds?
I do wish they would have added the Tanooki Suit and Sledgehammer Bros. Suit for SMB3, and maybe some more playable characters would have been nice, but aside from that, this looks like a /really/ great update. I'm especially excited for World Maker. I /kinda/ hope they let you save and upload more courses to compensate, since I know some people have made already maxed out their stock.
But the game as a whole has been a blast and I'm thrilled with what we've got. I'm looking forward to hopping back into Super Mario Maker 2! I've still gotta finish Down to Earth 2 and maybe, just maybe, get revive the "World" I was making from Mario Maker 1.
The ideas are rolling through my head.
@Vee_Flames I mean, if Nintendo's going to half-arse this and you have a PC, just get Lunar and make competent custom levels and worlds (well, in the SMW style) that have a chance of matching what people's imaginations come up with.
I would love Super Mario Bros. 2 USA themes. I always loved how wacky and different that one was from the others.
@DavidMac Mario Maker 2 has sold over 5 million copies. It's doing fine sales wise, maybe not to the levels of Animal Crossing NH, Smash Ultimate, Pokemon or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but it's doing fine.
It's unfortunate that there will be no bats in this game
God i really dont want to sound like a spoiled brat buuuut what about amiibo!? That's the only thing missing to make the game perfect
This is everything I’ve dreamed of, and wanted my whole life. Koopalings look awesome 👏
Wish the update wasn't coming out 4/22 as I read on NL somewhere ACNH was doing something special for Earth Day and now my kid will be kicking me off the Switch.
Unless it's a late night update, like he seems to wait all day every time a new SSBU DLC character releases.
Oh well, guess we'll see.
Would it have been so difficult to add Hammer Bros Suit and Tanooki Suit?
Wasn't expecting this to come out of nowhere. I'll have to put this game in my e-shop's Wishlist
@LinktotheFuture that's what I'm thinking. Like they know we want it, why won't they just do it?! They know every level people make for a month would have those suits.
That was quite substantial. I do have my problems with the game, namely in the form of not being able to freely mix & match themes/music/nightime gimmicks but this night just be enough to lure me back.
@KingBowser86 @Isaix tbh just the world builder is HUGE and was a feat of its own to put into gear I bet.
Also: re: styles; let's not exclude the possibility of DLCs. They might never happen but so far every times I felt something wouldn't happen with Nintendo this generation I was proven otherwise.
In a way I could see DLCs for more styles coming AFTER world maker update because then we'd have the framework to include their content into full worlds instead of individual stages.
Good stuff I've needed a reason to get back into mm2
World Maker is just the best thing ever. I haven’t played in a while but this update has me interested. Wahoooo
Adding world maps is pretty damn cool, but it kind of feels like Nintendo is working towards their own obsolescence.
@cowntsikin yes
Think they pushed it out the door earlier than planned. Despite to the final update moniker. Other projects might have needed resources for the foreseeable future.
Despite the.....typo
I still play this periodically, mostly exploring other people’s levels. Haven’t built any new levels recently.
Gigantic update for sure. Outside the lack of Amiibo support, Nintendo went all out on this.
No offense meant to creators, but how many worlds are going to be not so great levels tied together? I am definitely going to rely on the ratings to choose top notch designed worlds.
@Ludovsky It's certainly possible if the gigantic Mario celebration we keep seeing rumored is coming, but I (and other commenters) can't help but feel if this is the end because the game's not garnering the attention it was planned to get. Multiplayer was already half-stepped on release as was the level of content, and they thought that was going to be enough to make it go full steam? Especially when Friendly Fire, constantly-bump-into-each-other multiplayer (as opposed to the "Can Overlap" approach) is already a pretty mixed bag? Big N baffles me, sometimes.
I haven't jumped onto this game for a while...
Looks like I better...
Maybe they’ll surprise us with an encore update, with the “game styles” and that extra spot left... but all of this is great... I’m excited.
@Heavyarms55
Maybe the last free update? Doesn’t rule out DLC. This update is amazing!
Question, is the game worth buying just to play courses in the game itself and player-made courses (as in normal, playable, not super hard courses)? Not one for content creation.
Super Mario Maker 2 just became one of the most impactful, meaningful video games ever released. This is HUGE.
You can now design entire Mario games- levels, worlds, world maps, bosses, everything, with official tools in an easy to use UI. This is the ultimate Mario game. This is it. People have been dreaming of this day for decades. I know I have. Mario Maker was always good, but now? It’s on another level. This game is going to be historic.
All the Koopalings, with separate moves? Mechanical koopas? Frog suit? Boomerang suit? Entire world maker? Say no more. Put this game in the video game hall of fame where it belongs.
I do find it interesting that they specify it's the last "major" content update and not the last update with new content.
Possible that Nintendo may dip feed one or two new elements every so often? Probably not, but its fun to dream.
Dudes, I haven’t played this in ages the but please trust me when I tell you that I was specifically thinking of how cool world maker implementation would be for SMM2 earlier today.
I just can’t believe it.
@ZeldaNX That's a valid point. Still weird that it would be specified as the last update if DLC was in the works.
The World Maker feature and Koopalings could have easily made a solid argument for Mario Maker 3... but they threw it in this one for free. Well done!
@Toy_Link That's true, it does say "major." Or something like, "Here's the new updates, and they're beefy, and only available for Nintendo Switch Online members" or something, seeing as you have to be able to connect to the internet to share stuff, anyway.
@FX102A Totally worth getting, even if you don’t make levels. Especially if you like 2D Mario levels. You can play user levels that are filtered by difficulty, so you can avoid the super challenging levels. The Nintendo Made levels are great and serve as a showcase for design ideas, but the user created levels are where this game really shines.
My daughter has been playing this for the past year. Now it's finally time for me to jump in and make my own Mario Game.
They could have easily made this a 4,99 DLC but instead they gave it out for free. I don’t understand how people are disappointed with this.
@Vee_Flames It's a typo, as Japan doesn't have separate individual and plural words
@Duffman92 This is Nintendolife. A Nintendo fansite run by Playstation fanboys. That's why.
Me, I'm already planning what game I will make with the World Maker.
Definitely gonna get the game now!
Been waiting to build my own Super Mario World map since I was a kid 😮
The all the maps are just so beautiful can wait to see what myself and other people create.
I still have This game downloaded on my switch but it’s been a lifetime since I booted it up due to a very big backlog of games piling up. This definately makes me interested to get back into playing it 😀
Awesome update. I’ve not touched it in months, and still not really got any ideas for making my own levels, but this set of updates does sound great. Hurrah for world maps!
That's great and all but when are we getting slopes.
Sorry, I know there are slopes. I just miss complaining about lack of slopes
Wasn't it supposed to receive additional full styles? Was it ditched?
Just make all the enemies work in all styles holy sh*t Nintendo
Wow world maker looks epic! As a Super Mario World fan who probably rates that as one of the best games of all time, this gets me very excited. Feels like a love letter to that game that I always wanted.
This is a great way too end your last major update. Nintendo could still add more things in the future but more in bite sized patches.
This is great! I hardly played the game since release because I didn’t really enjoy grabbing levels one at a time. Now it’ll be much easier to just download entire highly rated game length creations.
Holy...CRAP. This is everything I ever wanted. Koopalings, world building...damn.
World Maker Mode - you can literally make your own Mario games.
I didn't think Nintendo would allow such a thing... all the other additions are merely side-dishes to this.
Wow. Simply incredible.
@Toy_Link exactly what I was thinking. Smaller updates may still be a possibility. Fingers crossed for a new style🤞
World Maker? YES!!!
Well that's about time.
Now I might genuinely be interested.
Wow! Because of that update, I think I’ll start playing the game again! If only they added amiibo...
This looks incredible!
Nice, always wanted this game to get a World Maker.
...only thing I wish was added aswell, was the 16-bit versions of SMB1 and SMB3 from All-Stars.
@sanderev What are you on about?! Everyone on this site seems to be very Nintendo focused to me.
Here's to another 90 hours of SMM2. And I haven't even made 1 level. Thank you for all the makers out there. There is some tremendous talent. The last update shown me that one small add-on can make a world of difference. Great update.
@FX102A A big YES - I've never created a level and had tons of fun with the game. The original game had a full official Mario game with 'Story' mode plus people were creating full games even before this – they just couldn't officially link those levels into worlds.
One important creator is: Maker ID: VKB-RL2-GQF (3rd Bunny). His course which he'll now be able to turn into a 'proper game' are of a quality that is maybe superior or at least equal in quality to the games Nintendo has put out. I'm serious. Give it a week or two and search for his World, and you'll have at least one of the best Mario games you've ever play - for free.
And I'm sure there are many more master-creators out there to discover.
This will ensure that you have INFINITE and highly creative 2D Mario games. It's the deal of the decade now.
... oh, and by the way. We'll be getting full 'Zelda 2' adventures too.
this is perfect rebuying this game but digitally this time, think i will enjoy this on and off for years to come
Worlds!!! We’re getting world maps!!!!! Incredible
Damn, I can't be happier now!! It's what this game needed so badly!! YEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!
It’s a good update, but I wish we got a SMB2 style with the enemies from that game included. Still though, I suppose the power up is almost the same.
This is AMAZING!!! I've been wanted world maker since the first game. Can't wait for this!
Now this is quite an update. I haven't player either Mario Maker much. I had an interesting level design going in two that I was working on for couple of weeks but never finished it. I'm happy we can finally make a full on Mario game. I want to make one but it's going to take a lot of time. I doubt I'll ever finish. Everything else looks great too. Glad to see some SMB2 stuff mixed in. It'll be fun just to try different things you can do with the new power up.
I’m sure other parts of the roadmap were shelved due to the pandemic but good on Nintendo for continuing to produce even with the current restrictions.
YES ! That are great news. I always missed being able to create an overworld
@Heavyarms55 I’m guessing there’s other projects they want the guys to work on. As these are free updates and not paid DLC unless the game is still selling incredibly well it’s not financially viable to keep producing free content for it.
Phanto!!!!
So does this mean you will get to play other players’ created worlds, or still have to manually enter the code for each level?
Excellent. About time they had this stuff in. But they still forget about Chargin Chuck and the Caped Koopas... why?
There's some quality of life stuff that I feel still needs to be added (notably not have 3d world style hard reset your map when you switch to and fro) but nevertheless, Nintendo closed Mario Maker 2 major updates with a bang.
Besides styles...(why was extra game styles a separate menu if there's no dlc styles to be added.), and ammibo costumes (they still sting.) I feel nothing else can be added.
Of course some new stuff was added and the long awaited, fan pleaded; World mapper was added.
But the koopalings?! With their own attack and movement patterns?!
I didn't think they would be added, especially without making them pallet swaps of each other.
And you can place all 7 at the SAME ROOM?!?!
Zipping straight back to the game when the clock strikes midnight.
This looks pretty big! Did they ever patch in the ability to play with friends and not just randomers online?
Was really looking for some new unlockables like the old SMB/amiibo costumes to incentivize playing levels/worlds.
Nice update regardless!
100% this will bring me back to a game i haven't played in 4/5months. Great update
Corona virus everyone must stay at home, Mario maker 2 hold my beer.
@Decapre 100% agree with you. Ive had absolutely no interset in this game what so ever since launch but if they add a world maker and i can indeed make my own "super mario world 3" i may just reconsider.
Like others said, I was really hoping seeing the hammer suit and tanooki suit from SMB3 after seeing the frog one, especially the hammer which only has like 3-4 mostly hidden appearences in the original game. Still, the inclusion of an actual world builder and the 7 koopalings is a game changer for me. I always created my levels as if they were part of a game splitted in distinct worlds, so at least, it will be possible now to share my levels as part of a custom game.
This is a very welcome update. I won't play it more often than before, but I appreciate. However, my fear is still the same: will the beauty and richness of SMMaker cause the death of any original future 2D Marios? I mean, I'm still playing the original Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World... Games made by Nintendo itself always are a different thing. I hope we will see new 2D games that will be different from what Mario Maker offers.
@CooperFrank given New Super Mario U Delux outsold Mario Maker, I doubt we seen the end of 2D Mario’s.
@CooperFrank the story mode in SMM2 should count as a nintendo made 2d mario. Those levels are fantastic.
It is funny, I just picked this game back up over the weekend to play with my daughter. Now, we have a ton more to explore. This is fantastic news!
That World maker is a game changer. Cant wait to have an inifinity of awesome 2D mario worlds to conquer that other people have Made. Nintendo does it again 😃🤓
I'd say this made my day, but that'd be a lie.
THIS MADE MY MONTH.
Only complaints are mostly nitpicks, namely the username in the "Super ______ World" template suggesting it's only one world per user, and the lack of other styles when the "additional styles" caption keeps being plural in all languages. Other than that, though, it's basically perfect. I love everything that's being made available.
Part of me kind of hopes the words ‘major update’ means specifically that. Its a huge update and one could hardly expect an update like this in future. An overworld creator and the sheer amount of power ups is a lot of content in one go, and overworld part in itself will have required more work than individual or smaller objects and features.
I kind of hope for, some minor updates here or there with the inclusion of featured would be nice, like the Wii U version.
Personally id still like to see placeable lava or water tiles, invisible lined tracks, and a few classic enemies for fun and variety. Itd also be nice to have a bit more customisation, such as being able to disable the night time gimmicks while retaining the themes (small things). Maybe even a few background objects, as semi solid platforms can at times be a bit limiting. Small things like that go a long way.
Too bad that they won’t be making a new style or providing continued support for the game (as I hoped they would do with paid online), but I suppose it was inevitable for a game that sold as badly as this one did. And the update looks like a lot of fun, they really went out of their way to listen to fan requests.
this is way better than the last direct mini.. i dont get... why they didn't add this and the (more than likely) next anial crossing update into a direct...
i looove SM2.. i'm reaching 200 hours.. im so happy with this update, but at the same time, so sad coz it's the last..
im not complaining at all.. but what about an extra style (i dont mind pay) and samus? or kirby?
this game is a blast.. for anyone thinking about to buy, dont hesitate... the campaign is fun.. the online is awesome and even the competitive is better than the begging..
This update looks awesome! Shame that it is the last "Major Update", but that implies that there could still be some smaller updates to come.
I was hoping for a few more updates like the Link one, like maybe Samus and Kirby or something as well as at least one more style added.
Also, did anyone else notice that the 3D World Style now has On/Off Blocks which is shown alongside the boomerang power up?
Here's hoping we can download entire 40 level games - I'm just concerned Nintendo will put some stupid restriction on that. Let's hope not.
great update for a great game
Awesome beyond words, honestly.
But isn't there still a blank style space in the creator?
@Decapre ha, that's what I said😅
This is both exciting and disappointing at the same time.
I was expecting a new style or 2, and having more Nintendo characters available.
I do hope this inspires a lot of new levels with everyone on lockdown. I’d give them a try, especially as I haven’t picked up Animal Crossing this generation.
That is enough content to call it a sequel! Plenty of games companies release games with less content updated!!! Some of that stuff is very very very cool
This is AMAZING. Effectively every last thing I really wanted from Mario Maker after they added slopes in the SMM2. So grateful for this.
RIP amiibo support.
I'll take this as a good opportunity to try building some more levels again. I made plenty of them on Mario Maker 1, but just never really felt like creating with this game.
Is unfortunate we never got a Super Mario Land 2 style mode, but we all knew it wasn't going to actually happen so is ok i guess. Hype for online multiplayer World Maker!
Try some of my levels, Super Mario Maker 2: Maker ID 8B7-CTF-NMG.
I will be making my own Super World which will probably take a long time to finish but it will be awesome!
This game was dead to me on launch. No Mystery Mushrooms killed it for me.
@Euler
It sold a bit over 5 million copies in 6 months, how is that considered "bad"?
If this ends up being the final update, what a way to go. That said, they only ever said it was the final major update, and it was even referred to as the "third update" at the end. My theory? More content is planned, but due to COVID, it'll come in smaller batches as minor updates.
@brunojenso
It looks like it's limited to 8 worlds/ 40 levels, so not quite what you were hoping. But still not bad considering we had no idea they would add a world builder at this point.
I'm wondering if we can use levels we've already uploaded on their own as part of our "worlds", or if they have to be new levels you're just adding.
They sure picked a good time to beef up the tools, with so many more people at home looking for things to keep busy with. I'd expect a flood of new levels (and worlds) will start tomorrow.
This update is amazing, I haven't played MM2 since i beat the storymode. This will definitely bring me back in.. You are basically playing full Mario games created by people that is absolutely fantastic. Great job by nintendo. My biggest question is since you're playing basically a full Mario game with 8 worlds my question would be can you save your progress when your playing through someone's world.. Hopefully you won't have to finish the world in 1 go or basically start over again..
@PikaPhantom I too find it weird how it was phrased. "The final major update is coming soon." "The third update of Mario maker..."
@FX102A Of course, there are millions of levels made by the best creators in the world easily sorted so you only play great levels. I don't make levels, but, this is easily the best game series I've ever played or will likely ever play. If you enjoy Mario gameplay, this seems like a no-brainer.
@Bmartin001 that’s an important question we need the answer to. It’d be such a deal breaker if we can’t save mid World.
@Jimsbo ah sorry I meant 40 Levels which I’m MORE than Happy with - and more than I thought Nintendo would ever allow. I’ve edited my post to say 40 which is a plenty substantial amount of levels.
Also I’m fairly sure the video shows you can indeed drop your original uploads into the Worlds.
Ok i'm a little bit bummed that they didn't add a new game style but hey! World Builder!? That by far is the biggest addition to this game in my opinion! I remember playing a flash game YEARS ago called "Mario Builder". I don't know if any of you remember it lol. But it was the bomb. I loved it and it gave you more customization options than even Mario Maker, but now they are certainly close!
@ROB_64 As a parent, I vouch for you, tell them I said it's ok
I am very happy about the accorn and the world map. But the game is still missing my favorite mario game art, Mario All Stars. Please include it as a final update with all the Mario annyversary stuff
@Toy_Link That's historically bad. Mario is an E ticket series, and Super Mario Maker 2 is its worst-selling entry (with the exception of Super Mario Maker 1 on the Wii U).
Looks pretty good, but that P balloon is messed up lol. Also, surely they could've come up with something better than "Super Mario Bros. 2 Mushroom". Subcon potion, perhaps? As long as it gives Mario the ability to super jump.
@Euler Yes, it looks like it's been changed from the way it worked in SMW. It didn't turn before, it just floated to the side staying upright. Seems like you may be able to get more steering control now.
@Euler
SMM2 is an evergreen game, just like past Mario games. Sunshine, Galaxy 2, 3D Land, NSMB2, NSMBU (original version), and 3D World all took more than 6 months to reach 5 million.
And this ain't the lowest selling Mario game, most of the other spinoffs (which SMM2 is) sold way less than this: most Mario Parties, all the RPGs, all the sports games, and all the spinoff Wario and Yoshi platformers sold less than 5 million.
@Toy_Link I'm referring to main series Mario games (which Super Mario Maker is a part of - see https://mario.nintendo.com/history/ ), not spinoffs (only Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, and maybe a couple others could be called E ticket series). And Mario Maker 2 isn't really charting anymore last I checked, so sales have stagnated a lot (unlike Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which continues to do well).
I'm excited about World Maker but no amiibos? Why does Link get special treatment? What about Samus or Kirby or any other big Nintendo star?
The world maker has been that one thing I've been wanting since the original game. I may have to finally pick up the sequel now! This is a really cool update.
Comment number 155 so no one will read. But i have to say it - this is a free update, with loads of cool new features and a FRIKKIN world maker. Yet all I see is "no amiibo support", "no new level themes", "it's not proper SMB2" whining. Jesus H Christ when will you people be happy.
@roboshort no that would ruin the game
World Maker!? Now THAT is definitive. You're basically making your own full-fledged Mario game!
But what happened to the new game styles thing everyone thought they would come? with this being the last major free update, the only other way to add new content would be paid DLC; though I'm not sure about that since I'll be too busy building an entire World Map.
My favourite game on the switch
BSB-11T-XDG is my maker ID 😀
@Ludovsky I would gladly pay for Mario Maker 2 DLC,but somehow I think it's unlikely.I though for sure that we'd get Odyssey and Mario kart 8 deluxe dlc but it never happen.
I have created about 15 levels or so, some of which I recreated from SMM1. However, most are stand alone levels. I probably won’t be creating a map with those levels, but I may do so with new levels. Like many others, I look forward to the community’s creative courses.
Nice! The lack of an ability to create worlds was always one of Mario Maker's shortcomings when compared to SMBX, so I'm glad it's being added in this update, especially as there seems to be lots of options for customization.
