This week Nintendo brought us the second 'Nindies Showcase' of the year, focused almost exclusively on Switch eShop games (with a couple also coming to the 3DS). It followed a similar format to the late February original, with Damon Baker spending around 20 minutes rattling through quickfire announcements and trailers.
It was an impressive effort, in this scribe's opinion, with the majority of titles showing a lot of promise. There were a number of brand new announcements, a handful of exclusives and games to suit pretty much any gamer. If you need to watch the whole thing, it's below.
Of course, the sheer volume of announcements meant that some news articles dropped down the page rather rapidly. As normal, then, here's your chance to catch up - let's get to it.

So many games!
Commented 3 seconds before @Kalmaro, lol
Plenty to choose from!
This is too long to be a summary! XD
Travis Strikes Again, Kentucky Route Zero, Golf Story, SteamWorld Dig 2, Lost Sphear, Mulaka, etc... Honestly, if there aren't a half dozen or so games here that get you excited then the Switch isn't for you and I recommend investing in a different platform.
I'm mostly just hyped for King of cards.
A €330 next gen handheld running like a SNES for the large part. Are you the SNES Classic Mini in disguise?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
You're very salty when it comes to indy games. You know none of these could run on a snes.
@sligeach_eire Does it bother you that these and games like these are coming to PS4 and XB1 as well? And plenty of them came to PS3, 360 and Wii U as well? I'm genuinely curious if this is an issue with these games or just an issue with people who make games without a AAA budget?
@Tibob Don't feed the troll.
Some look promising, but with all Indie games, you need a review.
Can some one explain to me the classification of an indie game because some are definitely not Indies to me.
Dandara and Away: Journey to the Unexpected are the most interesting to me. Floor Kids and Lost Sphear would be the next two that I'd like to get.
But... you wrote nearly the same article a dozen hours ago: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2017/08/video_catch_up_with_the_nintendo_switch_nindies_showcase_and_pax_west_trailers
Anyway, nice job with summing up all this information. I don't have a Switch yet but I probably will next year and I'll play some of these games, especially SteamWorld Dig 2 and Golf Story.
Some people here love to look down on indies as if they were all complete trash, but myself and many others here are actually very excited for quite a few of them. The more to choose from, the better. Bring them on!!
@Yorumi got it, but if Ubisoft, EA and Square are backing these companies, How are they indie now? It is kind of confusing. Those games are going to be the good ones because they have the money.
Well I was impressed by the nature of the video itself, 20 minutes mon-stop games, and they got rid of the "Next up" slides which I felt were a distraction.
And I'm not a big indie guy, don't like 8-bit retro graphics, and I pick and choose my 2D games, but there were several nice surprises. I'm not too good with names but Nine Parchments stood out as a nice Gauntlet type game, Mulaka as a Mark of Kri type game, something looked like it could have been Castle Crashers 2 and that Morphie game. And whatever that sausage dog party thing was.
None of those would make me go out and buy a Switch - that's what Mario is for - but it's good to know Switch is getting a nice supply of games like the other 2 consoles get. We all know Wii U was lacking in that regard. It had a few good ones, but not like this.
I am a little concerned about Nintendos lack of sales though. I bought a lot of Wii U indies with my 10% DDP, and Sony has flash sales constantly, and Steam pretty much daily - Poly Bridge is out now, half price - and with so many good games in this showcase, and $19.99 seeming to be the new norm, I'm afraid sales on Switch may not be as robust as on other platforms. And it's not like we get any good deals on My Nintendo.
So we'll see how many of those games I want I actually buy.
I was hoping for Divinity Original Sin to be here, but I left disappointed with this direct.
I'm all for indie, but this classification of certain games are muddying the waters. I know I'm picking up lost sphere because it has the SE backing it. Doesn't this hurt the little guy? These companies can give 3 people on their staff and call it indie.
@rjejr I'm guessing we can expect the first sale for Xmas at the latest.
@Yorumi Kind of sounds like you're saying money and workforce makes the quality of the game which is not true, of course.
@Yorumi @River3636 Part of the confusion is poor titling on NintendoLife's part. Nobody has actually said Lost Sphear is indie, not NintendoLife, Square Enix, or anyone else. They've just put out a new trailer in anticipation of PAX West, and are getting coverage accordingly. It's the same reason we just got the Nindie Showcase and coverage of it. The title implies everything being summarized is indie, which it clearly isn't; you'll note that the subsection headers are more accurately labeled.
Must admit, most of these games feel like 'stocking fillers' while I wait to open the main Christmas prezzies.
I'm not complaining at all - sometimes you want a quick Mcdonalds rather than wait for a steak, to mix my metaphors, but maybe because I lived though an age where 2D platformers were state of the art these games don't interest me much now.
But it's all good, that the games and choices are out there.
10 games I'm interested in. Sweet.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE But you even got a game with an elephant in a room...? You surely must be happy now? Right...?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Same stupid remarks. Over and over.
I just want to know more about Wargroove and Stardew Valley.
That's such an awesome looking lineup of games. I'm really pleased with the amount of content coming to the Switch.
But... but... THE SWITCH HAS NO GAEMEZ!!!
The only Indie games that have caught my eye so far are Portal Knights, King of Cards, and Brawlout.
Most of these games have my interest. I love how Nintendo have gone hard for indie support. We should all know by now that they're unlikely to attract all the big 'AAA' third party titles but now instead of having huge gaps of nothing between the big first party releases, we have interesting little games, which are perfect for a handheld, releasing essentially weekly. More than enough to keep me entertained. It's the perfect mix.
Just like usual many in the Nintendo community only care about Nintendo games. That's a losing strategy if you want a thriving ecosystem of games and a community.
@Tibob None? Really? You've already lost the argument by making such a false statement. For starters, Celeste could run on a SNES.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE First, you're replying to "You know none of these could run on a snes." with a game that isn't listed on this page. Second, can you point to some technical info that shows that Celeste can run on a SNES? Like, how is the particle effects and high resolution graphics solved on the SNES, for example?
There's quite a few that look really cool to me , nine parchments is day one for sure.
Wulverblade looks neat, as does steamworld dig, mulaka and earth atlantis.
My poor, poor wallet if they turn out to be good.
