During today's Nindie Summer Showcase, the sequel to the indie hit Super Meat Boy was announced for Nintendo Switch.
Super Meat Boy Forever tells the story of Meat Boy and Bandage Girl and their quest to rescue their baby Nugget from the evil Dr. Fetus.
Alongside a new story, new gameplay features were also detailed. No longer are Meat Boy and Bandage Girl defenseless, with the ability to now punch, kick, slide, and dive utilizing a new two button control scheme.

With a dynamically constructed level system, levels will get more difficult upon each successful completion. Alongside a new ranking system, daily challenges, and secrets, it promises plenty for players to discover.

How does a being made of bandages give birth to a tiny slab of meat?... I don't wanna know. It's Meat Boy. It's meant for laughs and they got me there
Not to be a butt, however are we getting the first one? (I haven't played it)
Edit: Nevermind...dev says more than likely.
So is it an auto-runner or not? I'm confused. Also, no, anything but lil Nugget! He (...she...?)'s so cute!
Super Duper Meaty Veggy Boy Man. I jest.
@justin233 It helps to vent my frustration.
@Ryu_Niiyama first one is on WiiU I think or was it 3DS.....hmm. Either way is available on almost anything by now. No Switch confirmation though.
Never played Super Meat Boy.
So this game is a runner? Lost my interest. =/
@Lina-MG Give it a shot. It seems along the lines of Runner3 and the other Bit.Trip Runner games, which were great and very challenging.
Not a fan of this sequel.....
@JJ286 dev confirmed it (sorta).
From precision platforming to auto-runner? That's incredibly disappointing. I was a huge fan of the original even when it only existed as a Flash game on Newgrounds.
I think the teats went dry on this cow a few years ago.
Putting Forever at the end of a sequel title is a huge red flag to me.
Yeah, not a fan of this being an endless runner. I honestly can't understand why they'd go for such a move.
@Malcrash Strictly speaking, Meat Boy is simply a boy without skin, not one actually made of meat. How the baby may have been born without skin, however, is a whole other question!
@nab1 Once it dawned on me during the Showcase that this is essentially Super Meat Boy X Bit.Trip Runner I realized it seems likely to be better than I was expecting. I don't think autorunner HAS to be a bad thing; if it were simply an infinite runner, however, I might feel differently. I remember reading that it would have an infinite mode at some point, but if the levels are all carefully constructed, then this has every chance to be good..... Hopefully!
Can someone actually confirm that it is an auto runner? I can't really tell from 30 seconds of game play. Aside from the punching it looks like the first game and that wasn't a runner.
In the original I don't remember stopping once, but had the trigger mashed down to sprint, trying to beat the par times. If it is an auto runner it might not be much of a stretch from the frantic pace and insta-restart style of the original.
@Ryu_Niiyama the first game? Really?
Its about time this overrated trash got a sequel!!
@JJ286 http://nintendoeverything.com/super-meat-boy-more-than-likely-coming-to-switch-this-year/
yep.
@ricklongo I get the impression it's an auto runner instead of an endless runner, so a bit like Mario Run. The article says levels progressively get harder as you beat them, where endless runners don't really have levels.
I assume they did it so they could release on mobile devices.
@Smigit Thanks, that's what I meant. Got my terminology confused a bit.
Still, it's kinda disheartening that's the case. I wish they'd release a mobile-specific version and a console one.
@ricklongo yeah. That said we'll get The End is Nigh soon which may partially fill that void a bit.
@Ryu_Niiyama oh boy!! Thats awesome!! Thanks for the heads up.
Sooooo, this is just a runner?
