Those looking for more rhythm gaming kicks on the Switch will have been pleased by the announcement of Floor Kids during today's Nindie Showcase; it'll come to Switch 'first' in the Holiday season.
It's a project with a fascinating history - Canadian animator JonJon produced some animated shorts in 2007-2008, with music by Kid Koala. After years of the characters and music featuring in Kid Koala's concerts, in 2014 Hololabs and Envision Management and Production were brought on board to turn it into a game. The end result looks rather stylish.
Floor Kids is a unique breakdance game featuring dance battles, freestyle gameplay, and funky beats. Discover original hand-drawn animation, a fresh soundtrack by Kid Koala and innovative controls that allow you the freedom to play the way you like. Lead your crew of bboys and bgirls through the city, unlock new characters & locations, battle against your friends, discover new combos as you rock to the beat, and find your style!
It'll have eight characters to choose from and more than 24 tracks from Kid Koala, and on Switch single- and multiplayer modes will support both physical and touchscreen controls.
Are you feeling the funky beat of this one?

I can dig it.
It's hard for me to imagine how the controls work in this game.
Props for nailing the subject matter. Right on point. Controls will decide this one for me, hoping for some tight gameplay.
Am I dense for imagining rad balance board support? Yes, I am.
DLC for Ozone & Turbo and I'll be lockin' (#theres no stopping Switch)
Man, this looks great! (This whole presentation has kinda blown me away!)
Game has me like
Different and original, could be cool. Im so excited i could throw my hands in the air and wave em like i just dont care. Like stereo mc's said: bring it on, bring it on, bring it on!
Not my thing but I can appreciate it for being a rhythm game. Aside from Voez I don't think rhythm fans have much to go for on the Switch.
That trailer really made me relive my own breakdancing days, so they definitely have the vibe down, far as I am concerned.
I like the premise behind this...makes me feel like a little kid again lol.
I really like the idea of this, but it's gonna come down to the tracklist (please have some licensed beats), whether there's multiplayer dance offs, and how it controls.
It made me think of B-Boy for the PSP and PS2. I'm not sure yet if that's a good or bad thing.
Everything about this game screams old school hiphop cali style. I hope the controls are tight. I dig it.
@gcunit license beats? From other producers?
I don't normally do these type of games, but my cuz and I have decided we are getting this just to replay breaking 2: electric boogaloo.
Don't judge us.
Honestly this isn't the type of game I'd normally go for. Especially since that sketchy art style just looks so unrefined... but the beat did have me going and it did "look" like it was fun. So... why not? I can give it a try at least.
I like music games, but this looks really dull. Interesting art style, but who the heck is Kid Koala? Pass on this.
Not 100% if I will get this but I have to say I love the art direction, style and concept of this game.
Oh this looks good. It reminds me a little to Bboy from PS2. I'm a Scratch and Breaking DJ from South America and i'm sure that a lot of my Bboys/Bgirls friends from around the world will love this game.
@Dizzard
They showed the Harmonix exclusive and Xonic is coming, as well as Thumper, already available.
I agree with @Lumine though.
It looks like Tony Hawk without the board. Haha i dig it, i could see myself liking this.
Hmmm 🤔
This looks fresh, im down ~
I scoffed at it for a quick second and then I was like"... huh, I might have to rock this." Cool, I'm in.
This actually looks like it could be really cool as long as the core gameplay mechanic/hook is genuinely compelling and fun.
