Re: Nintendo Has Added Paper Mario 64 To Switch Online's Expansion Pack

Wow, it's almost like the same drip feed of games from the Wii era all over again. Will this service even exist on Nintendo's next console? Remember back when we thought the Virtual Console on Wii was the future of how Nintendo would handle their retro games for the future, but it wasn't? Makes me not want to invest this service, because Nintendo will likely come up with a new terrible idea for retro games with their next console that replaces this, and repeats the cycle of drip feeding games all over again.

Re: Video: Check Out This Side-By-Side Comparison Of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City On Switch And PS Vita

The old version / Vita version looks stylistically so much better, and so much more evocative. The remasters look awful. Sometimes making everything HD and shiney just doesn't work. Not only that, but they're also full of bugs, especially with the rain effects. Sadly, the best way to play them will remain via obtaining the old PC/Android/6th gen console versions or via emulation.

"Back in the day, when GamesMaster was originally on TV, video games were still perceived as a thing that was predominantly for wee white guys"

Uh... GamesMaster in the 90's literally had loads of kids, contestants and guests who were not white. The kids in the audience were always quite diverse, and not just a bunch of white boys in the crowd. Did Rab not even watch the show back then?

Re: Hideki Kamiya Reminds Fans Bayonetta 3 Is A Nintendo Switch Exclusive

The general rule of thumb with Japanese Switch 3rd party exclusives is, if Nintendo isn't funding them, they'll always come to PC. For example, Daemon X Machina, Bravely Default 2, Moon, Monster Hunter Rise and Stories 2, Deadly Premonition 2 and most likely No More Heroes 3 have come / will come to PC. But since Nintendo is funding this and own the IP to Astral Chain, you won't see them anywhere else (aside from emulating them on PC).

Re: Talking Point: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

@Mando44646 Because statistically, the main game buying demographic for those consoles are the enthusiast market, who are buying them for themselves. Once the Switch 2 gets a Pokémon game, of course it's going to sell well, but I still have my doubts about it selling as well as the Switch 1. The Switch was a fresh idea in the console space and was exciting to see many established Nintendo portable exclusives make the jump to HD graphics, but I personally don't think the Switch 2 will be quite as exciting to the general public.

Re: Talking Point: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

There's still the possibility of the Switch 2 failing to sell as many units as the Switch 1. If you look at Nintendo's past consoles sales history, Nintendo will introduce a new product, only for the subsequent product to sell worse. For example, the Wii U was a sales flop in comparision to the Wii, which it was a direct successor to. The 3DS, which sold well (74.5m), but still sold roughly half of the original DS (154m). And the NES sold more than the SNES, which sold more than the N64, which sold more than the GameCube.

With the Switch 2, if it's conceptually too similar to the Switch 1, it might confuse parents and not sell quite as well. You have to remember that most Switch console and 1st party IP sales come from parents buying them for their kids, and it could be a Wii U situation, where the parent doesn't undestand what the difference is, or why they need to buy a Switch 2 when they have a Switch 1 at home, etc. There's also the fact that when Switch 2 launches, there's going to be a lot more competing handhelds on the market, that will take some of the hardcore 3rd party game buying demographic away from the Switch.

Re: Digital Foundry Explores The Potential Of 4K DLSS On A Next-Gen Switch

I think this sort of tech will be used moreso in handheld PC's than in the Switch 2.

Not that it won't be used in the Switch 2, I just think Nintendo will underclock it heavily, like they did with the Switch 1. Also, you have to remember that Nintendo's main goal is to sell their hardware at profit, and their hardware is designed to service their 1st party games first and foremost, not 3rd party, so excessive power makes little sense to them.

I could see NVidia making a successor to the Shield Portable, that would technically compete against the Switch 2, and make extensive use of this tech.

Re: GPD Has Plans For Its Own Switch-Style Handheld Device Powered By Android

yuwarite

@NEStalgia They already have released the GPD Win 3:

And they're releasing a new GPD Win Max (more of a handheld laptop) this year, and there'll likely be a GPD Win 4 next year.

Main problem with all of these Chinese devices is they're mad expensive. Valve can afford to sell at / near loss, as they have Steam to fall back on; these small Chinese companies don't have the same luxury.

Re: Gallery: Atlus Shares 30 Screenshots Of Shin Megami Tensei V For Switch

@VoidofLight True, but in today's day and age, with the range of gaming platforms we have now and with Sega managing Atlus, I find it hard to believe they would keep the games exclusive to Nintendo, unless Nintendo were money-hatting them for exclusivity. We'll have to wait and see, though; I could see this coming to Steam at the very minimum.

Re: Random: The Switch On Phil Spencer's Shelf Was A Gift From Nintendo

yuwarite

People keep over-thinking everything Nintendo is going to do, just like with the Switch "Pro". Now people are thinking Switch 2 is coming next year, when in reality it won't be coming until the manufacturing costs are low enough that it can be sold at good profit, and that could take a few years, especially if they're adding DLSS Tensor cores in to a brand new Tegra that's never been seen before.
