Re: DreamGlass Air Will Let You Play Your Nintendo Switch In Private Augmented Reality

@rjejr I also agree that AR will become more part of our lives, just not so much for gaming. There's a couple of great applications for AR and gaming: card and table top games are a perfect example. But beyond that, it starts to veer in to gimmick territory.

As for Facebook, I'm not too sure what they're doing with AR, but they don't really push their FB services on to Oculus users as people assume. And unlike Nintendo and Sony, they're actually a lot more open-source friendly. They natively allow users to sideload applications outside of the Oculus store on Quest headsets. And now the Quest can even be used as a regular PC VR headset, to play SteamVR games and other PCVR games outside of Oculus. It has essentially become a "Switch VR", allowing users to either play it portable or "dock" it to their PC for a supercharged experience..

@rjejr I think where we're headed is a convergence of VR and AR, all confined in to a small sunglasses sized device. We aren't there yet, but that's where we're headed in the next 10 years.

The Oculus Quest is, imo, the first real attempt at it, albeit it's not really an AR device for use outdoors, it's primarily an indoors VR device. But it is completely wireless, and contrary to what you said about price, the Oculus Quest is only $399, and is all inclusive, meaning you don't need an extra console or computer, or extra sensors.

@rjejr "for now AR is really the more interesting path going forward."

Based on what we've seen of Magic Leap, Hololens and other forms of AR vs what's going on with VR, I disagree.

And I don't think the general consensus thinks AR seems all that interesting, either. If anything, AR seems like more of a dystopian nightmare to the average person than VR (which is getting more public acceptance via VRcades, Netflix VR, Oculus Quest, Ready Player One, Anime, etc).

Whereas, a few years ago, there was a fear of privacy over Google Glass AR glasses, where the device was banned from being used in certain public places. There's also the fear that marketers will abuse AR for adverts directing you to the nearest Starbucks, or whatever.

Re: Class Action Lawsuit Officially Filed Against Nintendo For Switch Joy-Con "Drifting" Issues

yuwarite

They did this because of the amount of Joy-Con drift comments. So if you've ever made a Joy-Con drift comment on NintendoLife, YouTube or elsewhere, you're partly the cause of this.

It's funny, because I'm reading some of the comments here, and I'm like, 'hold on, weren't you making one of those Joy-Con drift comments the other day?' But now you're making a snide comment about greedy lawyers or whatever...

Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September

@westman98 Yeah, but the Switch has only been out for 2 years. It would have been cool to see more developers make first person games designed for TV mode, where each Joy Con is used as your characters hand and stuff like that.

For example, a game where the left hand is for holding a torch and movement and right hand for holding a gun, or both Joy Cons for dual wielding, etc.

With the Switch Lite, the incentive to do cool stuff like that is lessened...

Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September

@westman98 But this product renders stuff like HD rumble and the IR camera to unused gimmick status, as now a new segment of the userbase won't have those features. It's also less incentivising for developers to do separate Joy Con stuff if a lot of the userbase won't have them.

The lack of docking it to a TV and how powerful it is in portable mode may also affect other things, like developers no longer optimising as much for docked games. If the handheld performance is the same as a docked Switch, then it's okay.

Re: Is This Our First Real Look At Nintendo Switch Mini? Update: Company Responds

yuwarite

I hope they don't make a Pro model, and instead release a new dock that contains a supplemental computing device.

The "Dock Pro" would allow games to run at higher resolution, frame rate and added graphical affects when the Switch is docked, and either the current Switch or mini could dock in to it.

There would be no exclusives made for the dock, and when you take your Switch out of it, the game returns to its regular downgraded Switch portable graphics.

Re: Phantasy Star Online 2 "Will End Up On All Platforms" Eventually

PSO 2 was translated in to English way back in 2012 itself, and has had an active English community on Ship 2 for all these years. If you want to play the game in English, head over to Arks-layer.com, which has all the files and guides you need to get started playing the game in English on PC. It's not all that graphically demanding, either and runs very well, even on my old 2014 laptop at 60fps.

@Morrow "The only guess I can get is if it was going be a switch exclusive, but they couldn't keep it as such for the lack of sales. However, if that was the case, they could have said that too"

So basically, you want them to be honest and publicly state why the game is coming to other platforms, after they said it would be a Switch exclusive?

Be patient then. Maybe they will explain all in time; I don't think they've even been interviewed about this yet, and if they have, then blame the journalist for not doing their job.
