Re: Nintendo Switch Overtakes PS4's Lifetime Sales In Japan

In 2016, Sony moved PlayStation HQ (Sony Interactive Entertainment) to California, and ever since, we've seen more and more problems arising for Japanese game developers and gamers. It all culminated late last year, where it was revealed that Japanese developers are being forced to censor their games, even those released exclusively in Japan, and those who wish to dispute it must submit their response in English:

Ever since, Japanese gamers have been super p'd off at Sony. The general feeling is that, it feels like Sony is pushing western ideologies and politics on to Japanese gamers. Furthermore, Sony execs have essentially said things like, 'Japan needs to get with the times like the rest of us', further angering Japanese gamers and even PlayStation's Japanese president said censorship was to 'protect the children': www.oneangrygamer.net/2018/12/sony-japan-president-says-ps4-censorship-policy-is-to-match-global-standards-and-protect-kids/72781/

With PlayStation's anti-Japanese developer/gamer censorship policies, a lot of Japanese gamers are jumping ship from PlayStation consoles, in favour of PC and Switch. Also, it's the fact that PlayStation is a Californian company now, so Japanese gamers don't feel any national loyalty to PlayStation anymore.

Re: Random: Sony's Shuhei Yoshida Has Pre-Ordered The Nintendo Labo VR Kit

@JaxonH Nintendo is too reserved compared to him? This guy is literally pro-censorship.

Policenauts (1996; PlayStation): "When Policenauts was being evaluated, Shuhei Yoshida of Sony Computer Entertainment told Kojima they were discussing the extent of breast jiggling in the game."

Kojima: "I'll never forget arguing over the 'breast jiggle issue' with Shuhei Yoshida, who was our SCE contact at the time."

Shuhei Yoshida: "We need to be inclusive of all genders, ages, races, sexual orientations"

Fair statement, but Sony are censoring fan service games, so they're inclusive to everyone, except the fanservice market of gamers.

Dead of Alive Xtreme 3: "In Western countries, the awareness on how to treat and express females in the medium such as games are very differs from Japan."

Except, it's realistically only a vocal minority of extremists in the west that are complaining about said games.

By that logic, surely he should equally be listening to the large number of people in the west who complain about violent video games, who want to see such games banned / censored.

There's some other examples of his idiocy out there (e.g. saying Dragon's Crown was poorly received in the west, due to its titilation, when the Metacritic says otherwise).

The belief that Shuehei Yoshida is laid back and unreserved, is quite erroneous. He may be seen as Sony's only likeable exec, but he's just as bad as the lot of them.

@BulbasaurusRex Actually Sony Interactive Entertainment is an American company; they moved their HQ from Japan to California in 2016. And now, all games, even those exclusively released in Japan, have to be certified through their offices, which is the reason why certain Japan-only games are getting censored. Even worse, Japanese developers who wish to plead approval for their game to be on PlayStation, need to now submit their request in English. But even their Japanese President recently stated that their censorship policies are about 'matching global standards' and to 'protect the children'.

Re: Nintendo On Introducing New Hardware, Giving Players "That 'Wow' Moment"

@Octane Just pointing out that Nintendo released a digital camera for a gaming device first.

And I'd call the EyeToy more of a Richard Marks idea, less an internal Sony R&D idea. Marks wasn't employed by Sony when he came up with the idea in 1999; he was later employed that year after presenting the idea to them.

@Haywired The Wii didn't invent Motion controls, it just popularised them to a mainstream level. But you could argue Nintendo were doing motion controls to some extent with stuff like the NES Zapper before that. And there were other motion controls and camera based gesture technologies that existed before the EyeToy as well.

@Octane You probably haven't played Skyrim VR on PC with graphics mods. Also, Skyrim VR supports multiple control schemes: Teleport, Smooth Locomotion and regular gamepad/MKB controls.

More VR games are doing smooth locomotion now, but yeah, it is annoying when certain games only do teleport. Though, in the case of Budget Cuts, the teleport movement worked really well in that game.

@Wanjia It's not your PC alone that has to be connected by Ethernet, but the Steam Link as well. You shouldn't be noticing any visible lag after that. Only in the most fast paced twitch games, played with a mouse may you notice some miliseconds in delay, but for anything played with a gamepad, it's perfectly fine.

But I'm using an nVidia Shield, which is considered much better for local game streaming than a Steam Link; it even supports up to 4k60 with HDR, unlike the Steam Link. So my experience might be quite different from yours.
