Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch Pro "Will Have Exclusives", Says Insider

yuwarite

This would be terrible if true. Firstly, most people don't want to buy an interim "Pro" console just for a couple of exclusives, especially with the knowledge that an actual Switch 2 is about 2 years away.

And unless Nintendo is paying developers to port certain exclusives over, I don't see many developers taking the risk of porting their game to a much smaller userbase - especially when it's not a 100% guarantee that the userbase will even buy their game.

@Anti-Matter It's probably a lot of 20-somethings who disliked your comment; their first console was probably the N64. For those of us who grew up with Nintendo during the NES/SNES eras, the N64 was actually quite a disappointment. Even back then in the 90's, we all knew Nintendo was stupid to use cartridges as it would cost them 3rd party support.

I had the 3 main 5th gen consoles (PS1, N64, Saturn), but PS1 was my favourite; it was the true successor to the SNES to me, especially when it came to JRPG's (Suikoden 2, Xenogears, FFIX and Chrono Cross are among my fave games of all time) and Japanese 3rd party in general.

Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Monster Hunter Rise Demo Revealed

@anoyonmus Still, your logical deduction and reasons for it not coming to PC were way off. Leak or not, it still made logical sense to bring it to PC, because it's all about money at the end of the day and PC is not really competing in the console space, so it doesn't harm Nintendo to bring it to PC.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 And Witcher 3 Source Code Reportedly Being Auctioned After CD Projekt Hack

@Tasuki Witcher 3's not even an online game, so that wouldn't even affect you. And there are loads of excellent mods for Witcher 3, many of which greatly improve gameplay, let you customise Geralt or do a bunch of other cool things. And Warzone on console has tons of cheaters now, thanks to devices like the Chronus Zen, which not only allows for mouse/keyboard support on console, but for custom user scripts and cheats.

The first one, for NES, which we all played in the 80's and still play to this day. It's still the most iconic; it's the game which revolutionised the games industry for multiple reasons.

Re: Astral Chain Is Now Fully Owned By Nintendo, Says PlatinumGames

yuwarite

So basically we won't see a sequel to it, or at least not one made by Platinum, because Platinum are all about creating and owning their own IP going forward. Also, based on the interview, it sounds like Takahisa Taura, the game's director, wants to do other things.

@AugustusOxy More like PS5 fans; it's basically fully playable on PC, via emulation:

Re: A 'Pro' Switch With More Power Might Not Even Be Fully Utilised, Says Industry Veteran

@liveswired @electrolite77 "A Pro model wouldn't be about exclusives, it is about enhancements just as a PS4 PRO and X offered."

Right, and that's where we all agree. Enhancements are all this will be for.

But I'm talking about the notion that a Switch Pro also means exclusives, because certain games, like Red Dead Redemption 2, for example, can't run natively on the Switch. Big 3rd parties are not going to take the risk of hiring a team to port to Switch Pro, a console with a small userbase; that scenario is not going to happen. For 3rd parties, games will have to run natively on both systems, or not at all. Or, they will do a streaming version, but if they do a streaming version, they're not going to make a native version for the Pro, either, because there's still a porting cost associated with that.

Re: A 'Pro' Switch With More Power Might Not Even Be Fully Utilised, Says Industry Veteran

yuwarite

@liveswired Enhancements aren't what we're talking about, though; we are talking about actual exclusives for the Pro model, for games which couldn't run on the original Switch/Lite models.

The latter scenario is very unlikely, because it would be ignoring an existing ~70 million person userbase in favour of a much smaller base that chooses to buy a Pro model. It's also not a 100% guarantee that everyone who buys the Pro model is instantly going to buy those exclusive games as well.

There's simply not enough time for a Switch Pro to build up a sizeable userbase, by the time it does (2 years+), the Switch 2 will be on the horizon.

Re: A 'Pro' Switch With More Power Might Not Even Be Fully Utilised, Says Industry Veteran

yuwarite

@electrolite77 No they can't. Some games simply can't be ported to Switch, because there are massive CPU/TDP bottlenecks, that the Switch's natively downclocked Tegra X1 at 15w objectively can't handle, no matter how much a company like Panic Button tries. Games like Witcher 3 and Doom Eternal could technically be optimised to even run on an Xbox 360, but the 9th gen consoles actually have really good CPU's this time (as opposed to Jaguar laptop CPU's last gen), so it's just not feasible to get that code to run on Switch's CPU at 30 frames.

Re: Nintendo Is Now The Market Leader In Video Gaming's Biggest Region

yuwarite

@AlienigenX "they are all the same game, they only change the setting and some minor gameplay tweaks" ... You coud literally apply that exact same argument to Animal Crossing, and many of Nintendo's first party games. In fact, that's been a common criticism of Nintendo games for decades, that's why BotW was so refreshing because it was a bold and drastic change for the better.

Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Monster Hunter Rise Demo Revealed

yuwarite

@anoyonmus Well, at the end of the day, it's all about money. And it doesn't really make business sense for Capcom to leave money from PC players lying on the table in light of how lucrative and popular the PC version of World is. Nintendo's supposed $6 million deal wouldn't be enough to keep it away from coming to PC eventually.

Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Monster Hunter Rise Demo Revealed

yuwarite

@anoyonmus If Nintendo paid $6 million for timed exclusivity, I don't think Capcom would announce any other platforms just yet, as right now we're in the marketing period for the Switch version of the game.

It's like the situation with Final Fantasy VII Remake; not many people realise this, but FFVII Remake is a timed PS4 exclusive until 10th April 2021. And likewise, Square Enix has not announced other platforms it's coming to, but it's likely coming to PC, and possibly Xbox, this year.

MH Rise game is built for Switch, but uses RE engine, which runs beautifully on PC. I guarantee it will run perfectly fine on older spec PC's, even on laptops. I know because RE2/3 Remake run at 1080p 60fps on my old GTX970 PC from 2015.

Re: Random: KFC Made A Console, For Some Reason

yuwarite

It's actually an Intel NUC PC. Considering even those are very expensive, around $1000, expect this to be somewhere in that range as well.

That said, the Ghost Canyon NUC is basically like a console-meets-PC, and is super easy to upgrade, with no screwdrivers, etc, involved.
