Re: Review: Castlevania Anniversary Collection - You'll Want To Get Your Teeth Into This

wratih9

I played Castlevania I over the weekend and found it to be fine. The button layouts are reversed from A/X to Y/B so it was easy to find one that worked for me. Of course button mapping would be preferred but what they have is serviceable. As far as the stretch options, I just played it as the default 4:3 and didn't even notice the black bars since I was focusing on the action.

I almost have Castlevania I complete, I'm on Dracula right now and it appears to be another fight that I'm going to have to spend an hour or two beating. After that I'll be jumping into Simon's Quest which is the game I played the most growing up. I did go back and beat it on my NES a few years ago with the help of a guide which I really didn't need up until the end.

Great Collection overall and I concur with the score that was given.

Re: Reminder: Switch Enters The World Of VR Today With Nintendo Labo

@Jeronan

Why do you think Nintendo made it to where there was no strap to it? I would imagine most kids will only do this for an hour only at most. I believe most VR is fine after the age of 6 or so, I think the 3DS went through the same thing and that was 7 or 8 years ago. The higher resolution is important but again I believe Nintendo designed the art style in a way to get around this.

Re: Super Rare Games Announces A Handful Of Physical Releases For Nintendo Switch

These are all pretty solid (Toki Tori the least interesting to me) and I may go down the road of double dipping. Wulverblade will be a must as I loved that game even though it kicked my ass. I have Earthlock digitally but haven't played it. Darkside Detective I've had my eye on but have yet to pull the trigger so I may get it here so I don't double dip. Rive I've heard good things about but again don't own it so it is highly interesting.

Re: Reminder: Switch Enters The World Of VR Today With Nintendo Labo

When will some gamers realize that Labo is not targeted to them? It's meant for 7-12 year olds and it's not just about the software. I do not have much interest in VR since it still has a few kinks to be worked out but this one is interesting because of the construction aspect and it's a low price for entry. It's not meant to be Vive, Oculus, or PS VR so I have no idea why it's being compared to them.

Re: Video: Feast Your Eyes On This Brand New Shakedown: Hawaii Trailer

@SwitchForce

I would be surprised if this didn't get a physical release considering there are around 4 services (Limited Run, Super Rare, Special Reserve, and Strictly Limited) that are competing for Indie games to release. Wayforward also has already had a game or two come out via Limited Run.

As far as the game, looks good. I messed with the original a bit but only got through the first few levels before moving on. I'll keep on eye on this though.

Re: This NES Controller Mod Kit Puts The D-Pad On The Right

wratih9

No way this would make sense for me but the key thing to point out is that did this partly to play arcade ports which in the arcade your directional control is on the right side. So again not something that I would do but it's something I can see to give you a more "authentic" arcade experience. I use that term very loosely.

Re: New Nintendo Labo Kit Introduces VR Gaming On Switch This April

wratih9

The pricing structure of this one is the best out of the 3 kits. Of course it makes it to where there are 4 skus but the price is better suited for what the experience is.

I own the other 3 kits but haven't put them together (don't know that I will) and will probably get the big kit and then buy the starter set and put it together.

Re: Talking Point: Could Nintendo Ditch Physical Media With A 'Switch Lite?'

wratih9

As a collector I say no but from a business perspective it makes sense and that is probably the way they should go. The only trick is if they make an all digital system then that base model will be expected to have more than 32GB of onboard memory out of the box (IMO) and should come with a minimum of 256 GB or so along with an SD slot.

Re: Review: ToeJam & Earl: Back in the Groove - A '90s Throwback That Might Be Too Random For Some

wratih9

I am considering that game and I was hoping the reviews would be definitive but it leaves me up in the air still. I have only messed with the original a little bit so I cannot say I'm a huge fan but I didn't hate it. I hear so much reverence for the series I feel like it's something that I should appreciate. I guess I'll either just have to take in more reviews or just skip it.

Re: Talking Point: Is The Remake Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Worth $60?

wratih9

$60 is fine to me since this is a true remake. All the graphics, art, music, and other aspects are getting remade so it's not just "up rezzing" existing assets. Now beyond that I would imagine this is still $15 million-$20 million (just a guess) to make and market (that might be low) there for they will need to sell at least 500,000 before it's profitable (assuming they get $34 a game). It's not like $60 is going to be their take home. People do not have any concept of the business side of things.

Re: Reminder: Nintendo's Weird And Wonderful Switch eShop Sale Ends Tonight, Up To 66% Off

wratih9

I picked up several of these at the end of the year sale (or somewhere around there). Some general thoughts for those that want them:
West of Loathing is solid though I don't know that I will finish it since it's really dragging for me (5 hours in). The combat has felt stale which is causing some of the dragging.
I have Pool Panic but haven't played it.
Snake Pass was not good to me (only put an hour into it blargh).
Dandara was a good game that I completed. The controls take a bit to get used to but once you do it really is pretty good.
World of Goo bought on the Wii and loved it. If you haven't played it yet it's a good puzzler.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 2nd)

wratih9

I'm going to continue with West of Loathing but I've hit a point that I'm bored with the game after 6 or so hours. It's a silly game but the combat is somewhat boring to me and all the areas are starting to just blur together. It doesn't help the entire game is black and white so there's not much distinction.

I need to get back to God of War too and get through that too.

Re: So Long Wii Shop Channel, And Thanks For All The Games

wratih9

I spent the 2800 points I had left on Rebirth Castlevaniea, Rebirth Contra, and Ghoul Patrol. I had already switched everything to my WiiU a while ago since storage wasn't an issue on it. This is really horrible as it's the first digital platform that I've used that is going completely offline.
