Nintendo Switch exclusive Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order has just received a confirmed release date. You'll be able to get your hands on it from 19th July.
The game was initially revealed at The Game Awards back in December and will have players assembling their ultimate team of Marvel superheroes from a huge cast, including the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men, among many others.
You'll be able to play with iconic characters like Iron Man, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Hulk and Captain America, and heroes who have seen a boost in popularity in recent years like Black Panther, Deadpool, Spider-Gwen and Doctor Strange will also join the action, each with individual abilities or special moves.
Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, has said the following in a press release today:
“MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order brings gamers and Marvel fans together in a new action RPG exclusive to Nintendo Switch. With a huge cast of Super Heroes to choose from, assembling your ultimate team, strategically combining skills to unleash powerful attacks and preventing galactic devastation with friends has never been more fun or immersive.”
A little more info has also been provided:
In this new story, Super Heroes unite in a race across iconic locations in the Marvel Universe to find the Infinity Stones before Thanos and The Black Order use them to unleash cosmic chaos. Up to four people can play together in local* or online** co-op, with the ability to drop in and out at any time.
Are you excited for this one? Will you be picking up a copy on 19th July? Tell us in the usual place...

So far looks like a promising purchase for me but I need to have a bit more details.
July is looking packed for Switch and I love it!
Summer release is awesome. This is a great multiplayer game so I look forward to playing with my kids while they’re off of school. The original UA was actually the one of the first games I played with my son. I love that’s it’s 4 players as I can get all my kids in on the action now.
Gotta love that triangle of non-MCU characters Wolverine, Daredevil and Venom being so prominent in the boxart. Though I know a lot of people are just as excited for Deadpool, Miles Morales and Spidergwen. Think I got those 3 right.
Well unless things change at E3 that's my birthday settled. 4 player couch co-op FTW.
Guess this delays the ND a bit.
Dang now I have to get both this and Fire Emblem in July lol. Also I'm happy to have other characters like Spider Gwen and Deadpool in this.
Miles, T'Challa, and Ororo? Yes!
Wow, I would have really thought this would be a September/October game. July is going to be an absolutely crazy month. Fire Emblem Three Houses, Dragon Quest Builders 2, and now this.
Will anything else be coming out with Pokemon in the fall? Don't get me wrong, that will sell like crazy, but what else do they have for Sept-Nov? Maybe Luigi's Mansion 3?
If I can't play as the black female Iron Man, I won't buy it.
@rjejr I think this news is coming now because of Avengers Endgame, wouldn't be surprised if MUA3 gets a new trailer that debuts in the ads before cinema viewings of Endgame.
@Nintendofan83 Animal Crossing is probably September.
This is the game i am looking forward to the most this year, and Untitled Goose Game.
I really liked the 2nd game back on 360, so definitely looking forward to July.
Perfect summer time game, we're really excited about this one!
@Nintendofan83 don't Forgot Animal Crossing this Fall.
@rjejr - Dont you dare assume that of me! I mained Wolverine in MvC3 and the previous MUA games, seeing him again gets me nostalgic.
This and DQB2 is gonna take up my whole of July.
Seems like news that would have been perfect for a direct.
@Denoloco
Refer to the past two titles to learn if you will love this one or not
Definite must-have. Still looking pretty damn good as well.
Definitely a day one purchase, really looking forward to playing with my cousins!🙌
@Paraka I'm not sure what you're getting at only you may have misread my excitement as sarcasm. Rereading it now it doesn't seem to come across as I intended. I'm a big Wolverine and DD fan. Still mad about the NF cancellation.
@Grumblevolcano Avengers Endgame
That's still 9 or 10 days away. If there was going to be an ND in the next 9 or 10 days they could have waited.
That's Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen on that box-art! Unless I missed something, that's some great news for me. Hopefully the other Champions make an appearance like Ms Marvel, Nova and Amadeus Cho. The first 2 games had a crazy amount of characters both as NPCs and playable so it's not out of the question.
@KennyBania Ironheart could make an appearance as she's a Champion after all...
@rjejr I don't think there'll be one until April 25th at the earliest, Smash 3.0 is probably not coming until Persona 5S is fully revealed.
@rjejr - I was playing off your sarcasm, my man. I too am excited for Wolverine and Venom. Just need Gambit and I can call this day 1.
Nintendo please let my bank account recover... No? ok fine. Day one.
EDIT: just saw the box art. Storm and Miles Morales?! Inject it into my veins!
My most anticipated release this summer. It has been too long since I've played this series! Just hoping it's at least half decent, but what I've seen so far looks promising.
Just one week before Fire Emblem?? MADNESS!
Oh nooooo, now I'm in trouble. Which game should I get in July? If Endgame is awesome, this will be my buy!
cant wait to get it.
@Paraka Gambit and Rogue would be cool. I haven't read comics really in over 20 years but my teenage son just started buying X-men over the holidays so he's keeping me updated on stuff. And of course we watch all the movies together. Well not Venom, trailers weren't doing it for us.
@Grumblevolcano Smash 3.0
My kid keeps talking about 3.0. Says there's some Persona music concert on the 25th that he thinks is important for Joker.
Wait, did we already have this conversation? My short term memory isn't what it used to be. Apologies if I'm repeating myself.
@Nintendofan83
Yeah like others said, Animal Crossing is a monster release. Luigi's Mansion 3, like you said, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's an October game. Then don't forget Link's Awakening will likely be somewhere in that Autumn/Winter time frame too. That's just we know so far, E3 may reveal more goodies.
@Nintendofan83 Also Wolfestein Youngblood is coming out in July. Crazy month indeed... Lol
But you're forgetting that by the end of the year we still have, appart from Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion 3, Hollow Knight 2, Dragon Quest XI S, Doom Eternal and Zelda Link's Awakening... Even maybe Persona 5S, if it gets an official announcement. And I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting any big release...
And remember, E3 is coming soon...
@ThanosReXXX
It's definitely hitting all the right notes. Local and online play makes this so accessible to play with friends too. I like the roster as well, my only hope is that there's more obscure characters like Punisher, Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, etc. That's part of what made the originals so fun to play. However, I won't be too upset if they don't, I'm just thrilled the series still lives on. I had such a blast with these over a decade ago... Man, time flies.
July is packed as hell.
@rjejr but DD is an MCU character.
Oh man. Did July really add another must have game to the list???
But Fire Emblem Three Houses! But Dragon Quest Builders 2! But Wolfenstein Youngblood! And now Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
That's like... 2 really awesome co-op games and 2 really awesome single player games. Something for everyone (although I'm sure the co-op games will be great in single player too)
@LUIGITORNADO I take my use of the C in "cinematic" as to mean "in the theater" very literally I guess. So until he shows up in the movies and not just on TV I don't consider him to be a part of that Infinity Gem story line. Agents of Shield counts b/c of Colson, but I don't think there's been any crossover between Shield and the Netflix shows. It's a trickle down 1 way street.
When was the last time you heard any of the film people talk about how great it is for the Netflix people to be a part of their universe? It could happen, but it hasn't happened yet. Shield most certainly is, but I don't see Quake in the cover art.
@KennyBania Her name is iron heart and probably not because she comes around when tony start is dead, and tony stark is like Jarvis.
seeing the game Tony stark has a character role in this game. Maybe but I don't think so.
Can’t wait, this is going to be a quality title to add to the lineup. Hopefully they deck the roster out with tons of hero’s and even villains.
@rjejr X-Men as a whole have been not-so-great these last few years, but things seem to be turning around and the series has really perked up now that Disney isn't trying to actively snuff them out. He picked the perfect time to jump in and start reading.
@rjejr I'm hoping Marvel will bring back the Netflix series (namely Daredevil and Punisher) to Disney+ in 2020/2021 as we have to wait 2 years from cancellation to have them picked up by a non-Netflix studio. Here's hoping they get better integrated too...
@rjejr Well you're wrong. It's been stated it takes place in the same universe, and until someone comes out and states it doesn't then you just have to accept that the Netflix Daredevil and other netflix shows are apart of the MCU.
@MoonKnight7 It certainly does, unfortunately...
This game though, could really turn out to be a genuine, possible hidden gem, although it having a Marvel label hardly constitutes "hidden", but still...
No thanks it's a pass for me ...I hate anything Marvel
@rjejr You did make a tiny mistake with Venom there, though.
He may not be a part of the current Infinity War story line, but he is very much MCU.
And guessing from the after credits Carnage scene, I'd dare to wager a bet that Spider-Man is either going to make a cameo appearance in that second movie, or in the third one.
They have to meet up some time, after all...
So the latest reveals are doctor strange ,spider gwen , miles , deadpool and nightcrawler right. Then roster is getting better and better each update
@JaxonH Don't forget God Eater 3!
@Arnold-Kage
I think even more than that actually. The ones you said, plus Daredevil and Black Panther. I don't recall seeing them before in the trailers or promotional materials. I bet this isn't everyone either. Since this is Team Ninja, I bet there will be tons of DLC (probably paid) to access even more characters.
I see Daredevil confirmed then... really hope punisher is in then.... it’s looking like a great roster to choose from... wonder if blade will return.
Aside from Spider-Gwen, this roster seems incredibly mainstreamed so far - basically just any of the classic characters or anyone that's had a mildly recent movie/TV show. First game was similar in that regard, but had characters that at the time were weird & cool choices, like Black Panther & Doctor Strange before they were well known by having movies. I'll wait to see the final roster for obvious reasons, but if they have a great meme character(s) like Squirrel Girl, even as a pre-order bonuses, I'll probably pick it up indefinitely.
@MoonKnight7 daredevil is 100% new news and one I wasn’t sure would make it as it was looking very MCUcentric... glad to see it’s now looking like any marvel name could pop up... Hopefully Daredevil will be joined by all his friends. I had hoped for a playable punisher ever since this was announced - blade was in first one with some random choices - especially at the time it was released. I have a little of faves id like to see pop up.
Cant wait. Please dont suck.
@Kriven You're not bursting any bubbles here, buddy, since I couldn't care less either way. Both Disney/Marvel and Sony have been rather ambiguous about it, but seeing as still-owned-by-Sony Spider-Man IS part of the MCU, Venom would more or less automatically also be (or become), regardless of him not being involved in the current story line.
Once Venom's and Spider-Man's story lines cross over, and they will, because they are part of each other's lore, then what is for now called Sony's Marvel Universe and the MCU will merge.
I'm pretty sure all the Sony owned Marvel content is going to end up in Disney's lap eventually anyway...
This is a wait and see for me. I didn’t particularly care for Diablo 3 and this seems along the same lines but with Marvel characters- maybe I just don’t care for creepy? Looks really cool but I want to see how gameplay is more.
@ThanosReXXX Well I suppose Venom as part of the Spiderverse should be part of the MCU but until they cross-over he isn't. Did you see the movie, did it seem like it took place within the MCU movies?
@LUIGITORNADO "Netflix Daredevil and other netflix shows"
Well they've all been canceled now so it probably doesn't matter.
@Wexter My understanding just from Googling stuff is that the NF shows would wind up on Hulu which Disney owns most of and Comcast the rest, Disney wants to keep + squeaky clean. Maybe at some point they can roll them together and call it Disney+Hulu.
@Desrever "He picked the perfect time to jump in and start reading."
Yeah, he likes starting things from the beginning and it seems like they have a new series or 2 for him to read. I know he has all of Gold which ended, and something else that's up to issue 14 or 15. And we like the new movies, Last Stand and United weren't that great.
@Quinnsdaddy11 its to bad they didn't age better.
I don't do marvel usually but UA 2 wasn't bad when I played it back in the day. Will give it a chance.
Very cool, great Summer time game as multiple people have already noted. I really enjoyed the first one on Wii, never got around to picking up part 2 on PS3 though.
Hope they'll release a demo around that time. Excited to try it out. Love my Marvel characters!
July is the new November/December.
@MoonKnight7
Thought they were already announced. Still dlc is expected now a days ,but will wait to see the price for the season pack
I see;
Mile Morales
Black Panther
NIGHTCRAWLER
Dr Strange
and Deadpool!!
Hell yes.
I really want this to be good, but it's Koei Tecmo. Ewww... I'm betting there'll be tonnes of DLC.
Really loved the MUA franchise back in the day, so it's exciting to see it coming back. Venom and Wolverine alone have me sold on it, but it would be nice to see more details on the game.
I love the new characters. Glad it’s not only MCU. I think Wolverine was the only non-MCU character in the trailer. I hope they go hard on the fan service. The original UA had like 4 alternate costumes for each character and a few unlockable characters as well. I hope this does the at least that much. Very excited for this one.
@rjejr Daredevil is a part of the MCU actually.
Nevermind, a bunch of members already mentioned it.
Is it worth waiting to play this as a new player or should I go pick up a copy of the first and/or second to try first?
@deucezulu22 "Daredevil is a part of the MCU actually"
So I've been told, scolded and reprimanded.
Having watched the show I already knew the show acknowledges "the event" or whatever they call Avengers 1, making it a sort of TV spin-off from the movies. But I still say it's a 1 way street, MCU trickles down to the TV shows, but the shows never trickle back up and get acknowledged by the movies. So having those characters in the box art I still will continue to argue is a big win, regardless of how wrong people may think I am. I don't see any members of The Inhumans on the cover. I like them from my comic days but the TV show was horrendously awful. Quake from SHIELD isn't on there either and I'd say she's probably the most superhero-like to the MCU after Agent Colson.
@rjejr If you ask me, there is no such thing as a Marvel movie looking or not looking like it's taking place in the MCU, except of course for everything that came out before Iron Man 1, and which was done by Sony and Fox...
What does it even mean? Does it need to have cameos? Same buildings, same cities?
As most will know, in the original story, Eddy Brock works for the same newspaper as Peter Parker and they live in the same city.
This was changed in the movie, for whatever reason, but Sony's original intent WAS to let Venom cross over into Spider-Man, as early as in the first Spidey movie, but things changed (again), more than likely due to the rather uncomfortable relationship between Marvel and Sony at the time.
So, the final result of that was that the movie was based upon a self-contained mini-series in the Venom comics line (Venom: Lethal Protector) and part of the story arc from the comics series "Planet of the Symbiotes".
All of this allowed them to portray the movie as if in its own bubble, but ultimately, that takes nothing away from the fact that it still takes place in the same universe. This is not an alternate Earth story or something, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit, now that the relationship between Marvel and Sony is somewhat better, that Venom will eventually pop up in a Spider-Man movie, albeit not in the guise of his mortal enemy, since the whole story arc of Peter Parker stealing Eddy Brock's job is off the table.
Then again: by now, probably more than half of the existing comics story lines are all but non-existent in the MCU, so who really knows where it will go from here?
It's almost as shocking sometimes as having read all the Game of Thrones books and then seeing the TV show killing off all kinds of characters who weren't even supposed to die in the first place...
Day 1 even with already preordering Fire Emblem. MUA1 & 2 were amazing cannot wait to play MUA3.
@Mamabear literally nothing like Diablo
It's actually 31 august for Europe
@Kriven Well, I really do believe that eventually, all series/characters will be canon, including X-Men, Fantastic Four, and even rather out of the box stuff like Venom.
I know the MCU is not the same as the comics, but they never stray too far from the source material, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to either see a Spidey cameo in the second or third Venom movie, or a Venom cameo in a Spider-Man movie.
But I guess we'll find out eventually. Mind you, not stating this as a fact, but even though both parties (Marvel and Sony) have previously hinted at/mentioned that story lines with Marvel characters do NOT take place in different universes/different Earths, so that is why I feel that they might eventually all either come together or simply cross over into each other.
And besides: what would the next big thing have to be, after the Infinity War saga? Might just be the Secret Wars...
@Kriven Oh, don't get me wrong: that's exactly what I meant, a reboot for a number of franchises, much like they did with Spider-Man. Going to be hard to top Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, though...
But the last Fantastic Four movie was a complete abomination, making the previous two look like absolute masterpieces, so they'll probably have no troubles rebooting that, and making it canon with the MCU.
As for Venom: what we now (almost) know for sure, is that the next movie will be about Venom vs Carnage, so I'm actually not expecting a Spider-Man cameo in that one yet, but if it's successful enough, and a third movie arrives, then that might be the way in for both characters.
I also think it will be canon at some point. Sony doesn't rule (as much) anymore, and the only reason that the new Spider-Man movie was a success, is because of stronger involvement of Marvel themselves, something that should already have happened years ago, much like with the Fantastic Four.
Either way, we'll see what happens, provided any of us will be around long enough to witness wave 4 and 5 coming to completion, seeing as I'm already nearing 50...
Secret Wars doesn't seem like a bad idea, though. Once they get control over more series, they can build up to that, much like they've done now, with the Infinity War saga. And what else is there? They could of course just do more standalone trilogies of new super heroes, but something tells me that they might want to equal or top the Infinity War saga, and one of the few things that's bigger than that, is the Secret Wars.
Or maybe a crossover with DC. But that one is REALLY never gonna happen...
@Kriven Yeah, that does seem to be the most prevalent guess, from all media covering Marvel news. I completely agree with you where that is concerned, so here's hoping that's not going to be it.
But if it is, let's just hope it's not going to be the same ridiculous black mist that appeared in the Fantastic Four movies...
@rjejr venom and wolverine yess and daredevil has been in the MCU justbecuase hes not in the movies he is still in the MCu the netflix shows are part of the MCU but all the rest cool too see in this game
day 1 purchase for mee
