Varsav Game Studios, the developer of the upcoming Bee Simulator, has announced a publishing partnership with Bigben Interactive which will see the game launch physically on Switch "at the end of 2019".
If you've missed the news on this one in the past, Bee Simulator has you seeing the world through the eyes of a honey bee. You'll be competing with other bees in races, collecting pollen, performing "waggle dances", and exploring a world inspired by Central Park in New York - presumably every bee's dream destination? It supports co-op and vs. split-screen play, and the developer has been working on expanding the game's features over the last couple of months.
Here are some of those features, as shared in a press release today:
- A unique chance to see the macro scale world from the micro perspective of a honeybee;
- A realistic representation of a place inspired by Central Park;
- Three diverse modes enriched with educational elements:
a) Single-player story mode presents you with a family of bees. Can you save the hive from the threat of human beings?
b) Exploration mode allows you to freely discover a world inspired by Central Park in New York.
c) Split-screen mode can either be used for cooperation or competition. It includes an additional map that makes the game even more fascinating.
- The possibility to interact with your surroundings: people, animals, plants, and other insects;
- A lack of violence – it's a perfect choice for parents looking for a game that their children can safely play;
- Relaxing music composed by Mikołaj Stroiński, who was responsible for the soundtrack of such games as The Witcher 3 and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.
Łukasz Rosiński, founder and joint-CEO of Varsav Game Studios, has said the following:
As a unique mix of action game with elements of simulation, and definitely with an educational mission, we deeply believe that Bee Simulator has great potential. Potential not only to give players huge amounts of fun and entertainment from being a bee, but also by increasing their knowledge of the nature that surrounds them, and maybe even change their work-life-nature balance.
No specific release date has been given just yet, but we do know that it will launch simultaneously worldwide across consoles and PC.
Will you be(e) adding this one to your physical Switch collection Does the idea have you positively buzzing with excitement? Tell us below.

Should have been “This will keep you bee-sy”
Buzzing for this one
This game looks right up my alley! First instinct I have, it reminded me of Buck Bumble on N64.
Finally, the spiritual successor to Buck Bumble we've all been waiting for.
This isn't Buck Bumble.
Wow, they got the guy that composed for the Witcher 3 to compose for this?
Nice.
I played the trailer to get a good laugh but I actually sort of liked that...
There's no hot bee on flower action?
Well, then, that ain't much of a bee simulator, is it?
Oh I remember this one, I actually was sorta impressed by it.
And the fact it's getting a physical release is interesting to say the least, I'll wait for reviews but I'm interested.
Bumblebee tuna, bumblebee tuna
Mosquito Simulator = Mr Mosquito by Sony on PS2
Bee Simulator = This game by 3rd party
Next, Butterfly / Cicada / Dragonfly / Spider simulator. 😆
If it weren't for the bumbling controls and the terrible soundtrack by Sting, I might have tried this.
Why does it sound like a TIE fighter at 0:50? 😆
Would prefer a remaster of Buck Bumble - that was a great game with a great soundtrack (I may have my nostalgia glasses on there)
I want a remaster or sequel to Deadly Creatures. This looks ok. Might pick it up for my little girls.
Barry B Benson better be a playable character
You know what it is, black and yellow, black and yellow, black and yellow. <3
Looks pretty neat. I look forward to a review.
It looks kinda fun actually. But I want to be able to sting people. I’m a jerk.
Who needs Metroid Prime 4 if he can have this!
Looks great. Hopefully, it doesn't run at 360p/20fps.
I hope they don't bumble this one. I'll bee waiting for a review. If the buzz is good, I'll pick it up.
Still, remember playing a spider simulator on PS2
This made me think of a deadly creatures remaster.
@Anti-Matter Spider was already covered by Deadly Creatures for the Wii.
I really like the look of this game.
Seems like it would be a cool VR game... I'll bet it looks awesome on PC, but I wonder how the graphics will hold up on Switch?
Has anyone notice these types of games are coming to Switch now? It was fire watch and now bees-that to me would indicate Indie are more welcoming of Switch now. And being portable is another big factor they want to get it on the Switch. But they should also make it Physical and include a Bee plushie as extra and I will be there.
Part of me feels like this has the potential to be a great game, but most of me feels like this will be Bee Movie levels of quality.
Wow! Looks superb! Definitely interested. Please have a stable framerate on Switch...
This actually looks really good!Not the type of game I thought I'd be interested in but..I'm interested.
Disappointed this is not a beekeeping simulator.
Bee 52 anyone
The words "partnership with Bigben Interactive" pretty much killed whatever buzz I had for this.
BigBen, probably my least favourite publisher in the business after they pushed out World Tennis Tour, knowing it was unfinished.
This is not what I wasp expecting, but this game could surprise everyone as an unexpected honeyshot. Combing over the trailer, hive concluded I might just bee interested.
When I was a small child I always thought that having a game where you're the size of an insect or literally a bee, flying around a gigantic environment, would be the coolest thing, but not technically feasible. I am glad I lived to see tech catch up with such dreams.
Next up, a multiplayer shooter in which tiny marines are trying to take on an entire anthill? That was one of my ideas too.
It reminds me with Deadly Creatures on Wii (without the violence part)
@SmaggTheSmug
Nice to know I’m not the only one who fantasized about insect games as a kid. I love exploration games of macro worlds at micro scales. The Pikmin series is my favorite. I also like Chibi Robo on gamecube. This bee game looks really neat, too. Many people seem to be keeping a closed mind about this. It’s too bad. To me it looks amazing.
@Flipbot Yeah, any stretch of dirt with only patchy grass and rocks in it and my mind immediately made it an arena for insect-sized vehicles or similar stuff.
This looks amazing! I love bugs so much and there really need to be more games starring them, especially realistically like this.
The fact that bee and goat simulator are actual games .. blows my mind
I would like to play this, but $40 seems a bit high. I can't imagine there's enough gameplay in this to justify that price. I mean, life as a bee isn't all that complicated.
