UK chart data is now in for the week ending 26th September, revealing that Super Mario 3D All-Stars has managed to keep hold of its first place position.
The game managed to fend off Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers for the second week running, also keeping new releases Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia Trilogy at arm's length.
It leads a top ten which includes a decent number of Switch-only titles, with Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continuing their wonderful runs of form.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:

How can it stay on top for two consecutive if it was sold out at release?
Really enjoying sunshine at the moment.
I did try playing super mario 64 first but it was god damn awful, the controls,movement and camera were absolutely shocking that I just couldn't play it
One of my boys is absolutely addicted to everything Mario, so when I saw a copy at a store I just had to get it... What with all the "limited" nonsense going on.
He'll be getting it for December.
Personally I don't care much for the 3D Mario games, but he loves them, so...
Three Switch exclusives in the top five... very nice! Is a shame about the time limit on the Mario 3D collection... that would have "evergreen" written all over it otherwise.
@Pod where was it sold out? I'm from the UK and most retailers still have loads of stock, it's also only £44.99 at box.
Mario 3D All Stars is great. I finally was able to play Sunshine and now I am playing Galaxy and loving it. I understand the criticisms of the release, but to have these games together and on the switch is great.
@Northwind
Perhaps?
Although, this is the UK all-formats chart. The people aggregating these would absolutely not have access to Nintendo's digital sales numbers, so I think we can safely assume these numbers to all be physical. :x
Definitely the best game I've bought so far this year, regardless of what updates you think Nintendo should have done its still 3 great games
@Pod Those reports are a load of rubbish, or at best if they were true then retailers got their stock replenished within days. I went to my local Game at the weekend and they had a whole stand full of them.
@carlos82 I feel the same, can't stop playing it.
It's definitely a scare tactic. I went to the mall and they had copies in the two stores that sold games. But hey, it worked, because I bought it.
Sad state of affairs though when the top 10 is dominated by old games, basically.
But it does go to show that we have gotten past the state of the art graphics stage of gaming where the most import thing for a release was how good something looked.
@Pod,
Don't believe all the hype surrounding Nintendo not making enough units of this release, it's timed to celebrate Mario's 35th anniversary, but Nintendo still plan on selling as many copies as possible.
@Northwind If I’m correct, then ‘All formats’ means Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox. It doesn’t mean the format of the individual game (ie. cartridge, DVD, Blu-Ray or digital).
MK8 is starting to get towards GTA-like "Who is still buying this?" levels of presence on the weekly charts.
When replaying Mario Sunshine, I see how nostalgia aged better than the truth. Sure, it's beautiful, the music is very nice, some of the ideas are truly great, FLUDD is great... But the levels where FLUDD is taken away really show how terrible the actual character control is. Running, jumping, no contradictory actions tied to the same button (like picking something up carefully or diving head first into a slide that takes way to much time to get out of), camera control/environmental awareness,... Everything needed from a good 3D platformer is somehow broken in this game. Even the life system doesn't work. Failing to win a race for example is an instant death, costing a life, AND taking you back to Delfino Plaza, with all of the "introduction" scenes from both the Plaza and returning to retry the level. No simply "continue" or "retry" option. The simple things they could have done to make this game a LOT better on a modern platform... Even when you finally get to ride Yoshi, it soon turns out to be more of a chore than anything else. And somehow, I'm still playing through it all again.
End of rant.
@Northwind @pod
It is indeed physical copies. It's all formats that can be bought physically. There were plans to include digital sales but that's quietly gone away since Nintendo doesn't release digital numbers anywhere.
Also, in the UK at least availability has been strong. I had no problems picking my copy up from Amazon (Inc £5 discount, win!) on Friday. The Nintendo UK store has sold out though.
Galaxy's magic has captured me again. Live playing it in the handheld. Wanted to do Sunshine first but galaxy is an all time fav of mine. Couldn't help it. Of what I have played of 64 and Sunshine, I am happy.
Modern games with blackjack and graphics for the price:
this is great news and hopefully eases peoples concerns about stock availability!
@Northwind Nintendo; avoiding talking about sales since 1889.
@Valhalla91
I'm planning to start playing Sunshine next. I did flirt with it when it was new but the Gamecube sort of passed me by so never really played it "Properly"
Regarding Mario 64. I agree it hasn't aged well, especially when comparing it to Odyssey but I still love it, at the time it was revolutionary.
I'm currently on 115 Stars and want to finish that before moving onto Sunshine
I'm still surprised people went mental due to the 'limited time' thing. Nintendo will still be making physical copies til at least January so there is enough stock for the Christmas market amd all those buying a Switch for the first time.
Limited or not, it's an amazing collection of games. Each one is an absolute masterpiece. It's one of my favorite Switch releases. Hopefully, Nintendo will do something with these classics after the deadline. Perhaps put them on NSO or sell them individually.
I can only hope that Nintendo sees this as a sign to make more collections in the future.
@Valhalla91 I went to JB Hi-Fi today and I could not believe the amount of copies they had.
too bad.. only up to march and then bye bye
@TheAwesomeBowser I would love a Paper Mario collection of the first 3 games.
@TheAwesomeBowser And the Metroid Prime trilogy!
@Shambo Speaking the truth. It was my first time playing through Sunshine and it didn't take long for me to see why it's considered the "black sheep" of the 3D Mario games. I finished the game at 88 Shines and are not looking back. Especially to those blue coins. They can eat my @$$.
Wow, 7 old games in that top10...
People don’t need new games I guess
Nintendo makes games for the marathon. Not a sprint. Other big games come and go and do their 'flavor of the week' tour. Then disappear (or often times come back because they're yearly release. But then disappear again.) Rinse and repeat.
1 more week of 3D All Stars on top and then it's all about FIFA 21.
People will be able to buy a physical copy of Mario 3D All-Stars after March, it won't be like they will be removing them from the shelves! If it's still selling well (if there's a new version of the Switch by then sales could certainly increase), I reckon stores will order a big bulk of copies to keep it going well into 2021...unless the scalpers pounce but then stores wont care about that, they'd get their money regardless!
@johnvboy I reckon it will be one or two big print runs. Why are people buying this? Don't they read Nintendolife comments?
GTA just barely hanging in there.....
@WiltonRoots,
People do not read minority comments on internet gaming forums, imagine my shock.
Finally 100% SM64 for the first time yesterday, jesus I forgot how trash the camera was, caused me so many deaths.
Not even gonna bother to do the same with Sunshine due to the blue coins.
Already fully completed Galaxy on Wii so I'm just gonna play through the "story".
All 3 great games with flaws. No game is perfect. Glad to see this selling well.
I'm loving Mario 64, after bouncing off it when I was a kid. It takes some getting used to, of course, especially the camera and particularly if you can't shake off the muscle memory from modern platformers. You either adapt to how 64 works and accept it or, what I'm seeing a lot of, you hate-play through it and never really get into the flow of it. (Or you don't play it at all. That's another possibility.)
I also bounced off Sunshine back in the day, so we'll see if I have a change of heart with that, too.
@koekiemonster We're in the UK. Don't estimate how backwards we can become.
@Grumblevolcano Nah, Crash and Star Wars will take it
@vyseofhr MK8 is a special case. It sells fairly consistently to every 1 in 2 or 3 new Switch owners.
When Switch stock is moving MK8 will move up the charts. Seeing MK8 high in the charts is, therefore, a sign that the console is selling well.

@Pod Most stores in my area still have quite a few copies, and digital sales are probably helping.
@vyseofhr I guess it's the go to pick for a new system.... Animal Crossing and MK8. Understandable, but I would also think Odyssey would be up there..
@StuTwo hahaha, true true!
With Mario 64 camera I just zoom out as much as possible and leave it. Galaxy is genius I don’t think I used the camera once! Anyway it’s pizza time and then Mario galaxy 2 time. About 20 stars a day for me and will do upto 100 xxx
@Shambo
Agree that Sunshine isn’t all that great. I never thought it was, it’s a good game but a terrible Mario game. However I personally think even 64 holds up better.
SM64 is the greatest game of all time. Let me explain. No it’s not objectively the best game right now. But today’s games won’t be objectively better than games in the future, that’s how progress works. When comparing across eras you’ve got to compare each game with the other games in the respective era, it’s like when comparing the greatest sport men and women through the ages. Tiger or Jack? And SM64 was so revolutionary at the time it blew up industry standards and reinvented gaming for the future. No one single game has had such an impact on gaming - please challenge this statement - so therefore I consider it to be the GOAT. And likely to remain that way until we game in the Matrix circa 2050
Mafia, Mafia Trilogy, Tony Hawk, GTA.
And people act like only the Switch gets old games. 🙃
Crash Trilogy sold 130,000 retail copies in the UK at launch on PS4 and is the fastest-selling platformer in UK history.
Curious to see how well Crash 4 will sell at launch, especially in comparison to Mario 3D All-Stars. Pre-sale figures are much lower than that of Crash Trilogy, but that may not mean much with the massive increase in digital sales over the last 3 years.
Well, those three Games are just Unique Master Pieces, you can't do anything wrong by buying them.
I am with 77 Stars in Mario 64 now and i love this Game.
I've never played Galaxy before and after the annoying unskippable Sequences it shows it's Greatness.
Hype aside, my 7 year old loves Mario 64, and my 9 year old is owning Galaxy. Worth it from what I've seen.
